2. Typical Genre Characteristics:
The costume throughout our video is
consistent and connotes the genre of indie
rock. We used leather jackets for two of our
members and kept a more raw look for our
actors since this was a running theme in the
indie rock genre.
We used cutaways to a town location which
is connotive of genre since indie rock videos
are usually filmed on a low budget and we
used footage of Darlington in the town as
well as the train station which is connotive of
their energetic and constantly moving lives.

3. Typical Genre Conventions
We have low key lighting through the
performance of the video which allowed
to give the band a darker side, which is
juxtaposed against the fun nature of their
performance. This allowed us to show that
there was more to indie rock artists than
people like to believe.

4. Typical Genre Characteristics
The juxtaposition between the neatness of
the hotel and our actors allowed the genre
to become more apparent, our actors
mock the location because they are
“different” from what would be classed as
ordinary.
It’s a performance based video which is
typical of the genre because a narrative
based is a higher budget.
The energy and close relationship of the
band can be seen through the cutaways
that were designed to give a more intimate
and raw image of the band.

5. Relationship between lyrics
and visuals
We have the cutaways that
do this mainly by using
different footage of the band
members going up and down
stairs.
There is a juxtaposition
between the lyrics and when
the band walk into the hotel- It
makes a mockery of the hotel
even more with them being
there. These represent the
difference between the social
order (the hotel) and the
chaos of the band breaking
these conventions.

6. Relationship between music
and visuals
The editing is often cut on
the beat and picks up
pace as the video goes on
which would connote the
band’s energy.
We sped up some of the
cutaways which made for
a faster pace, helping us
to make our video more
energetic as well as
individual.

7. Close ups and motifs
The main use of close ups that we use are of the bands’
instruments rather than the bands’ faces. This is more
typical of the indie genre due to the fact that
stereotypically, the music is the most important to the
indie band than who they are- The music should be able
to tell the audience that.
