The Sexualization Of The Female Pop Celebrity
Introduction
The sexualization of the female pop celebrity has been a significant point of research for many years. Since the rise of celebrity, scholars have been
studying how the roles we place on our notable figures influence the rest of us. In recent history, the landscape of celebrity culture has drastically
changed. Now more than ever, social media has allowed us to be connected to the stars that we look up to. Research has increased on the subject since
the start of the 21st century. Recent scholarship in gender and media studies has looked at female pop celebrities in particular in relation to the
developments in media technology. Particularly, this scholarship focuses on female singers.

Women now wanted to know what their favorite stars were doing, and soon looked to them for a model of what a woman should be. However, the
expectations were very high. Female celebrities were able to have more freedom than any women prior, due to their prominence and high status, but
their roles were also constraining. They were often rooted in regressive definitions of gender. Celebrities are expected to be successful actors, doting
wives and mothers, and an example of femininity all at once.
Artist Types
Scholars including Musial (2014) and Donze (2011) have described how female pop stars are often limited to very distinct character types that define
them, with difficulty moving away from these small boxes. Instead, celebrities have been known to embrace these roles fully rather than fight the
inevitable. In its most basic form, these characters are usually either the Madonna, the virginal good girl, or the Whore, the immoral seductress. Musial
(2014) explained that the Madonna–Whore Complex is a term first coined by Freud to describe our tendency to see women in black and white terms.
Musial looked at how a celebrity 's character could change by transitioning from Madonna to Whore after having sex, the most reliable way of
knowing being pregnancy. After having a child, it would be almost impossible for a pop star to ever be seen in the good

Addiction In The Great Gatsby
Obsessions cause havoc and can potentially ruin a person's life, yet society normalizes and capitalizes on their effects. Obsessive thoughts and
behaviors are becoming increasingly more common in today's society. They can have many detrimental effects due to the lack of control it causes in
a person. With the popularity of romantic comedies and love songs, borderline stalking behaviors are viewed as normal acts of love. The Great Gatsby,
a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, features a man hopelessly obsessed with a past girlfriend. Additionally, There's Something About Mary is a
movie about a man demonstrating stalker–like behavior toward a woman that he has been obsessed with since his childhood. Due to deficits in their

Many people are blind–sighted and tricked into being sucked into the world of celebrities and reality tv. This occurrence is known as celebrity
worship syndrome and it can have many detrimental effects. Research has found that celebrity worship syndrome and an addiction to celebrities "has
likewise been conceptualized as a search for a solid identity and social role ... and compulsive and obsessional elements are noted at advanced stages
of addiction ... Thus, while absorption can partially account for the vividness of delusions related to dissociative experience ... the progression along
our hierarchy of celebrity worship might reflect increases in the thresholds of the need and capacity of psychological absorption" (Rockwell). The
absorption–addiction model that Rockwell references describes the parasocial relationship of a celebrity and a fan. Typically, due to deficits in a
person's life, a fan will become absorbed into a celebrity's following in order to escape their current life and they eventually become addicted. If an
obsession with a celebrity is left unchecked it has the possibility to spiral into thoughts or behaviors that can be harmful to the fan and

Celebrities In Mass Media
Star system, Celebrities, Fame and Fans
Celebrities only exist in a society that has access to mass communications. Being a celebrity refers to the fame and public attention from the mass
media to an individual or group. The Huffington Post defines stardom as "the intrinsic ability to take fame and parlay that into an emotional
connection with the audience which causes the audience to follow said star's exploits outside of that star's specific niche." The hollywood star system
was the method of creating, promoting and exploiting stars in Hollywood films. Movie studios would select promising young actors and glamorise and
create personas for them, often inventing new names and even new backgrounds. Dan Laughey's "Key Themes in Media Theory" explains why
celebrities have such an influence on youth culture and how celebrity image is conveyed through youth identity. He uses Harold Lasswell, Marshall
McLuhan, Jurgen Habermas and Erving Goffman theories to support this claim.
The word 'celebrity' is "rooted in the Latin celebritas or celebration" They are followed by news reporters, you see them in television, they have fans.
Someone is famous because they are well known within a particular community for some achievement. In Anthony Ferri "Emergence of the
Entertainment Age?" he says "Celebrities abound in the media today largely because of the improved technology allows celebrities and fans to access
each other directly." In Emma Bazilian "The faces of Kylie" she introduces

Their reaction is usually different. Many are driven by doctors to fix their child's deafness. Whether it is through hearing aids, surgery, audiologists,
speech therapy, using teachers that are trained in children with disabilities. The child grows up thinking something is wrong with them. Sadly hearing
parents don't realize that Deaf parents raise their Deaf children successfully with out many of these expensive services.
A lot of frustration and stress builds because the parents cannot communicate properly with their child. Hearing parents often say that they were never
informed of the many options that Deaf parents in the Deaf–World use with their child. Such as early use of ASL, hiring Deaf baby–sitters and day
caretakers.
Having spent months on an emotional roller coaster some parents refuse to accept the diagnosis that their child is Deaf. They are in denial that may
last for years. Some go so far as placing their Deaf child (whom they view as just having a hearing–impairment) in programs designed for hearing
children who have disabilities. This delays the start of effective educational programming and the Deaf child's academic achievement is likely to reflect
the delay.
Many young Deaf children cling to their hearing mothers excessively. There is almost no meaningful communication. The interaction between parent
and child becomes more the relation of teacher to pupil.

Limitations Of Paparazzi By La Dolce Vita

Limitations of Paparazzi
The term "paparazzi", defined as "a freelance photographer", originates from the name "Paparazzo". In a film, La Dolce Vita, a character that played
the photographer was named Paparazzo. This word comes from an Italian word, which describes an annoying noise. The author of the film refers to
the noise as a buzzing insect, which is shown as the shutters of the camera. Generally people find insects annoying, and typically their first reaction is
to swat! Well, celebrities who are well known seem to find the shutter and also the flash of the camera to also be quite annoying. Most celebrities are
aware of pictures taken of them due to fans wanting memories, or even reporters updating fans on recent achievements. Paparazzi however, exceed
certain privacy limits to get desired photos.
Paparazzi have been recognized as celebrity fist magnets due to celebrities always attacking the paparazzi when they tend to annoy a celebrity. Most
celebrities have reacted to them violently. They also have been called human herpes because nobody wants them, but they'll always be around.
Paparazzi have irritated a lot of celebrities as soon as they step out of their home. Many photographers believe that celebrities have chosen their career
and in doing so, lost their right to privacy. Celebrities usually go out of their way to avoid the paparazzi. Namely, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield
who have held up signs while leaving their

Celebrity Worship Is A Common Day Ritual
Nowadays, celebrity worship is considered a common day ritual, as it is performed by millions of people around the world. However, this practice
has been a disease to the world and continues to conflict the youth with deranged goals and aspirations. Misconceptions of what an idealistic worship
lifestyle are inevitable, considering that the definition of a "worshipper" gets modified every year. The primary reasons as to why Celebrity Worship is a
poison to the world and why it must be stopped is due to the fact that it distracts the person from focusing on what is important in life, it provides an
unstable relationship with a celebrity which can get psychotic, and it can create inadequate goals and aspirations for one to follow.
To begin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weishar also gives an example on the fact that although there are people who do not give in to the hype that the media creates on these celebrities,
there are still millions of people who buy into it. "Not everyone buys into this corporate pop–culture non–sense, and not all pop–culture is created by
corporations. Social media has allowed us to create our own pop–culture behind the scenes, but at the same time we follow trends more than ever and
they are often dictated by celebrities on outlets like twitter. Celebrities like Kardashian who get paid $10,000 every time she promotes a product in
140 characters or less" (par. 13). In a society that has been enveloped by social media, these celebrities have more power than ever before, and they
utilize this niche by creating several social trends that they know the majority will follow. With new trends created every day, and celebrities dictating
on how people should live their lives, how does this benefit the population on focusing on what's necessary? Aside from the distractions that it causes,
celebrity worship creates delusional relationships with these idols. They create a connection with celebrities and due to their obsession, they will feel
as if they have became friends with the idol, even though the idol has not met the person. This creates an image of a false connection being made with
a celebrity who does not even

The Three Dimensions Of Celebrity Worship
There are three dimensions of celebrity worship which are consistent with the absorption–addiction model (Maltby, Day, McCutcheon, Houran, & Ashe,
2005). These three dimensions are entertainment–social, intense–personal, and borderline–pathological. In the Entertainment–social celebrity worship,
an individual develops an attraction to a favorite celebrity, which is consistent with Stever's (1991) observation (as cited by McCutcheon et al., 2003)
about the celebrity's perceived ability to capture the attention of fans. It includes attitudes and behaviors such as "My friends and I like to discuss
what my favorite celebrity has done," and "Learning the life story of my favorite celebrity is a lot of fun" (McCutcheon et al., 2003).
The next level of celebrity worship is characterized by Intense–personal feelings, where behaviors and attitudes like "I consider my favorite celebrity to
be my soul mate," and "I have frequent thoughts about my favorite celebrity, even when I don't want to." are common (McCutcheon et al., 2003).
This is the level where the compulsive and intensive feeling of the fan towards the celebrity is apparent as well as some occasional obsessive
tendencies (Maltby et al., 2005). At this point, people are absorbed with the life of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there is a contrasting view of celebrity worship wherein the positive roles carried out by these fans in maintaining social networks around
their favourite celebrities are emphasized (Maltby et al., 2001). The said behaviour can be beneficial to the individual because it supports productive
social relationships, which may also serve as psychological buffer against stressors (Maltby et al., 2001). In relation to adolescent development,
parasocial interactions formed in this stage may contribute to social, emotional, and transitional roles of adolescents (Adams–Price & Green,

Stop Following Celebrities! Everyone has that one friend who is head over heels in love with a celebrity. They will always follow them and say that
a celebrity is their hero; but there is a serious difference between a hero and a celebrity. The people who seem like they can't stop following acelebrity
or can't tell the difference between following a celebrity or hero might have celebrity worship syndrome. This is a real psychological disorder of the

This means that they would constantly have fantasies about a celebrity and do thing that they might not even realize they are doing. These people
feel like if they needed any sort of help that their celebrity would be there to save them. It is like they worship their celebrity as a god. Fortunately, the
majority of the people they tested fell within the first two categories, but the test that the psychologists did revealed how prevalent celebrities were in
people's daily lives.
Celebrity worship can develop from just being a psychological thing to actually hurting your brain. Doctors Maltby, Houran, Ashe, McCutcheon
suggest that if a person has a high level of celebrity worship then they also have a high level of anxiety and depression.
They also state that people might very well want to change the way they look because in their eyes the feel inadequate compared to the celebrity so
they will body shame themselves and try to look and act just like their favorite celebrities.
An example of this is a man by the name of Toby Shelton, who spent over $100,000 dollars in plastic surgery to look like Justin Bieber. Not only
was this man 33 years old, but he was also obsessed with Justin Bieber in general. He ultimately ruined his body with plastic surgery (Daily Mail

Celebrities And Celebrities Essay
Celebrities are a huge element in today's society that a world without them is even hard to imagine because we are so accustom to seeing them all
the time and everywhere we go whether it is in television, magazines and especially in social media. They have this power that we, as a society allow
them to have and they are able to influence us all in different ways sometimes without themselves even realizing the impact they have. The role they
have is so huge that we are constantly wanting to know everything about them, what they wear, what they eat and what they are doing. Celebrities are
a part of our culture and it is hard to ignore the fact that we look up to them, it is as if they were up on a pedestal making them so much more important

One of the most common decision people make because of body image is plastic surgery. Many people turn to surgeons to create certain features
of a celebrity they believe has attractive features. In "The most popular plastic surgery procedure is..." written by Jacqueline Howard talks about
how throughout the years the amount of cosmetic procedure being performed have gone up and how ever since 2015 the demand for fillers has
increased which is a procedure that is used to make the lips bigger. According to the article the reason for the popularity of this procedure is
because of Kylie Jenner, the reality star who admitted to using temporary fillers to plump her lips in an episode of "Keeping up with the
Kardashians." (Howard) This goes to show how people are not afraid of getting cosmetic procedure, that consumer will continue to pay in order to
look what they believe is their best. It shows how celebrities are a bad influence on people because instead of encouraging positive body image they
are promoting getting these services.

The Myth Of The Range Rover And Hollywood
The Myth of the Range Rover and Hollywood In modern culture, Hollywood elites and celebrities have appropriated the Range Rover as their daily
driving vehicles which signifies not only their wealthiness, but their prestigiousness. The Range Rover is predominantly owned by upper class
celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jay–Z and David Beckham, which makes the Range Rover the perfect commodity to exemplify a Hollywood
myth. A myth as Roland Barthes describes in Mythologies, is a kind of speech, in which the history of an object is distorted to signify a new
contemporary signification that feels completely natural to modern society. The Range Rover, which was originally used in the military and for off
roading terrain has had it's history drained and filled with a new history that signifies a much different myth than it used to. In this essay, I will argue
that the myth of the Range Rover signifies a prestigious and powerful vehicle, designed with royalty and privilege, made specifically for the
celebrities and the famous upper class personalities of Hollywood. The Range Rover's appearance has an authoritative god–like presence caused by the
size of the vehicle. It is a large vehicle, but mostly in it's height as it is not very wide and appears significantly slim. Despite how large the body of
the vehicle appears, it can only seat five people therefore, virtually no additional seating is gained by the size of the vehicle, thus the size of the
vehicle is not for convenience

Is Celebrity Worshipping Destroying Our Society?
Is Celebrity Worshiping Damaging to Our Society?
We all have a favorite celebrity that we like and follow from time to time. But, when does admiration for a celebrity stop and adoration begin? Is it
possible to be obsessed with someone you have never met? The answer is yes! Celebrity worship is a type of "parasocial" relationship, in which a
person can become captivated with one or more celebrities. To the point wherecelebrity worship has become an obsession. Obsessions like this is
similar to a type of delusional disorder, where the individual ends up believing they have a relationship with a celebrity. Why do somepeople worship
celebrities, and what are the consequences of doing so? Also, what kind of effects does celebrity worshipping have on today's youth? Is celebrity
worshiping destroying our society? More so now than ever, we have become dangerously obsessed with celebrities, not only with celebrities, but with
fame in it of itself.
It has become easier to be allured by what is portrayed on television, since we are spending most of our free time watching it. A study in the British
Journal of Psychology, "showed no bias related to age or gender of celebrity worshipers...The test also showed no celebrity bias, indicating that
Celebrity Worship applies equally to acting, music, sports, and other ' celebrities" (2002, p 67).

Celebrity gossip spreads easily via social media platforms like instagram, Snapchat,YouTube, and Facebook, or gossip blogs, websites, radio stations,

Shame, Shame And The Loss
What is shame and how different people cope with it.
No one knows when shame appeared for a first time. Maybe in ancient times, maybe in 15th century, or perhaps since the dawn of man. The fact,
which is known, is that the majority of people experience this feeling at least once in a lifetime. Shame is a strong feeling, which affects not only
regular people, but also celebrities. We will see it in the article The Contestant by Daniel Alarcon, where he tells the story of the fame, shame and the
loss as a result. Also, in this essay I will show the difference between shame experienced by regular people and celebrities, by analyzing articles from
different authors and comparing behavior of stars and people. Shame is a feeling that controls us, scare, and influence human's behavior. Nothing
matters when we talk about the feeling of shame: gender, religion, race, age, social status, fame.
Before talking about different ways people go through shame, I'd like to talk about what shame is. The word shame comes from an old English
"sceamu", Dutch "schamen" and German "scham", according to the dictionary.com, and means a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by
the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior. According to the article by Eric Posner called A Terrible Shame: "Shaming is a form of social
control. It occurs when a person violates the norms of the community, and other people respond by publicly criticizing, avoiding, or ostracizing him"
(2015). In other words,

The Role Of Fame And Fame's Influence On American Culture
The role of fame and celebrities' heavily influence American culture. Some people may be eager for a celebrity status or be drawn to one who has
achieved it for reasons not fully understood. When the word "fame" is thought of, often what comes to mind is the money and the attention that comes
with it. However, fame can also bring pain through addiction and the publics lack of acknowledgement that celebrities are people who share the same
struggles and stress. America's obsession with "celebrity culture" effects the attitudes, behaviors, and the overall views of an average person, and
also those of the celebrity themselves. Because celebrities live in a different world compared to ours, it can easily make our lives seen unpleasantly
dull in comparison. Therefore, it's easy to become obsessed with a life that is not our own. Americas obsession with celebrities have created ways to
make it possible for anyone to become famous through reality tv shows, but there are rules as to what must be done to get there. Competition shows
like Survivor, American Idol, Americas Next Top Model, and Hells Circus pit contestants in no
–holds–barred battles for supremacy and financial
reward. However, talent doesn't always play the biggest role in winning on these shows; contestants are rewarded for being ruthless, exploitative, and
vain. Nearly all of them highlight bad behavior, giving extra camera time to cast members who blow up, break down, or scheme to grab every

Social Media and Celebrities: Prestigious or Problematic? Over the last century, technology has advanced increasingly, providing more and more

What Are The Causes Of Celebrity Fanaticism

Social psychologists agree that the reasons are complex, but some issues seem to recur. One is that we're bored, and living through movie stars is a
way of alleviating that boredom. Another is that we're searching for identity, the evidence for which is that teenagers (those lost souls of adolescence)
usually score highest on the CAS. Social fragmentation might also play a part: as family and community values are crushed by the cult of
individualism and an omnipresent media, perhaps fantasy relationships are becoming easier to form than real ones (Harrison, 2006). But because of the
rise of the social networking sites, the media becomes the supplier of the addiction. As Simon Dumenco, a columnist for Folio, explains, "These [media

The Disenchanted Research Paper
Research paper: The Disenchanted F. Scott Fitzgerald's life and work were in a knot from the start; his profession spanned one of the most
tumultuous eras of the century, and from the very start he was the creator and the victim of the new culture of celebrity which accompanied the rise of
modern technology. Budd Schulberg masterfully created a character that closely and in many ways represents Fitzgerald in his later years; Manley
Halliday is that character. "His mind's eye, incurably bifocal, could never stop searching for the fairy–tale maiden who made his young manhood a
time of bewitchment, when springtime was the only season and the days revolved on a lovers' spectrum of sunlight, twilight, candlelight and
dawn."[Ch.10]. Fitzgerald... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His colloquial dialogue, vital ideological protests on behalf of human dignity, and feeling for the family were distinctive (yourdictionary.com).
Lindbergh on the other hand reflected the dichotomy of the era "our Lindy, the blue–eyed boy, the Lone Eagle etc..." [1930s, p.53]. In the book, Shep
and Halliday discuss this "And we had Lindy. God how we loved Lindy. Maybe that's what's gone–that capacВ¬ity for abstract love. Anyway, it seems
rather symbolic, doesn't it, your Charles A. Lindbergh, the appeaser and our Lindy, the blue–eyed boy, the Lone Eagle, Horatio Alger in an airship
conquering space." [Ch. 5] T.S Eliot's famous poem The Waste Land depicts society as being a part of an unfruitful cycle. "Human beings are isolated,
and sexual relations are sterile and meaningless" [The Wasteland; http://www.vanderbilt.edu]. In one excerpt from the poem "presents the voice of a
countess looking back on her pre–World War I youth as a lovelier, freer, more romantic time. Her voice is followed by a solemn description of present
dryness when "the dead tree gives no shelter." [The Wasteland; http://www.vanderbilt.edu]. In the novel, Shep contemplates death "Was failure
inevitable and tragic? Or merely the biggest and last of the bad breaks? Would death, like the unfinished manuscript–another broken promise–be the
final symbol?" [Ch. 24] The Wasteland has a

Limitations of Paparazzi
The term "paparazzi", defined as "a freelance photographer", originates from the name "Paparazzo". In a film, La Dolce Vita, a character that
played the photographer was named Paparazzo. This word comes from an Italian word, which describes an annoying noise. The author of the film
refers to the noise as a buzzing insect, which is shown as the shutters of the camera. Generally people find insects annoying, and typically their first
reaction is to swat! Well, celebrities who are well known seem to find the shutter and also the flash of the camera to also be quite annoying. Most

There was Ashley Tisdale who used her dog to hide her face from cameras, also Justin Bieber who used a mask to hide his face. In addition to those
celebrities, Katy Perry used a large stuffed donut to hide her face, and Shia Labeouf used a brown paper sack to hide his face. Kanye West has tried
walking with his head down to avoid the camera being able to see his face, and ended up bumping his head and causing a huge knot on his forehead.
The media often creates a frenzy around famous people regardless of their desire for privacy, as such there should be regulations that ensure the
paparazzi, reporters, and fans limitations.
Paparazzi are known as stalkers, people who use the technique of invading others space, and go to any limit possible for pictures to snatch a quick
buck. Paparazzi capture photos or video clips of celebrities, and sell them to different publications. The value of captured media could be worth
millions depending on the exclusiveness of it. Usually, paparazzi tend to go after media that will have a negative look on celebrities. For example,
things that could be embarrassing like being drunk, falling over, not looking their best, having an accident, or breaking the law. Paparazzi work all day
and night hoping to capture the perfect moment to get rich. Sometimes they work together, and other times they are in competition with each other.

The Sexualization Of The Female Pop Celebrity

  • 1. The Sexualization Of The Female Pop Celebrity Introduction The sexualization of the female pop celebrity has been a significant point of research for many years. Since the rise of celebrity, scholars have been studying how the roles we place on our notable figures influence the rest of us. In recent history, the landscape of celebrity culture has drastically changed. Now more than ever, social media has allowed us to be connected to the stars that we look up to. Research has increased on the subject since the start of the 21st century. Recent scholarship in gender and media studies has looked at female pop celebrities in particular in relation to the developments in media technology. Particularly, this scholarship focuses on female singers. Although they are now more accessible, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women now wanted to know what their favorite stars were doing, and soon looked to them for a model of what a woman should be. However, the expectations were very high. Female celebrities were able to have more freedom than any women prior, due to their prominence and high status, but their roles were also constraining. They were often rooted in regressive definitions of gender. Celebrities are expected to be successful actors, doting wives and mothers, and an example of femininity all at once. Artist Types Scholars including Musial (2014) and Donze (2011) have described how female pop stars are often limited to very distinct character types that define them, with difficulty moving away from these small boxes. Instead, celebrities have been known to embrace these roles fully rather than fight the inevitable. In its most basic form, these characters are usually either the Madonna, the virginal good girl, or the Whore, the immoral seductress. Musial (2014) explained that the Madonna–Whore Complex is a term first coined by Freud to describe our tendency to see women in black and white terms. Musial looked at how a celebrity 's character could change by transitioning from Madonna to Whore after having sex, the most reliable way of knowing being pregnancy. After having a child, it would be almost impossible for a pop star to ever be seen in the good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Addiction In The Great Gatsby Obsessions cause havoc and can potentially ruin a person's life, yet society normalizes and capitalizes on their effects. Obsessive thoughts and behaviors are becoming increasingly more common in today's society. They can have many detrimental effects due to the lack of control it causes in a person. With the popularity of romantic comedies and love songs, borderline stalking behaviors are viewed as normal acts of love. The Great Gatsby, a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, features a man hopelessly obsessed with a past girlfriend. Additionally, There's Something About Mary is a movie about a man demonstrating stalker–like behavior toward a woman that he has been obsessed with since his childhood. Many people are blind–sighted and tricked into being sucked into the world of celebrities and reality tv. This occurrence is known as celebrity worship syndrome and it can have many detrimental effects. Research has found that celebrity worship syndrome and an addiction to celebrities "has likewise been conceptualized as a search for a solid identity and social role ... and compulsive and obsessional elements are noted at advanced stages of addiction ... Thus, while absorption can partially account for the vividness of delusions related to dissociative experience ... the progression along our hierarchy of celebrity worship might reflect increases in the thresholds of the need and capacity of psychological absorption" (Rockwell). The absorption–addiction model that Rockwell references describes the parasocial relationship of a celebrity and a fan. Typically, due to deficits in a person's life, a fan will become absorbed into a celebrity's following in order to escape their current life and they eventually become addicted. If an obsession with a celebrity is left unchecked it has the possibility to spiral into thoughts or behaviors that can be harmful to the fan and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Celebrities In Mass Media Star system, Celebrities, Fame and Fans Celebrities only exist in a society that has access to mass communications. Being a celebrity refers to the fame and public attention from the mass media to an individual or group. The Huffington Post defines stardom as "the intrinsic ability to take fame and parlay that into an emotional connection with the audience which causes the audience to follow said star's exploits outside of that star's specific niche." The hollywood star system was the method of creating, promoting and exploiting stars in Hollywood films. Movie studios would select promising young actors and glamorise and create personas for them, often inventing new names and even new backgrounds. Dan Laughey's "Key Themes in Media Theory" explains why celebrities have such an influence on youth culture and how celebrity image is conveyed through youth identity. He uses Harold Lasswell, Marshall McLuhan, Jurgen Habermas and Erving Goffman theories to support this claim. The word 'celebrity' is "rooted in the Latin celebritas or celebration" They are followed by news reporters, you see them in television, they have fans. Someone is famous because they are well known within a particular community for some achievement. In Anthony Ferri "Emergence of the Entertainment Age?" he says "Celebrities abound in the media today largely because of the improved technology allows celebrities and fans to access each other directly." Sadly hearing parents don't realize that Deaf parents raise their Deaf children successfully with out many of these expensive services. A lot of frustration and stress builds because the parents cannot communicate properly with their child. Hearing parents often say that they were never informed of the many options that Deaf parents in the Deaf–World use with their child. Such as early use of ASL, hiring Deaf baby–sitters and day caretakers. Having spent months on an emotional roller coaster some parents refuse to accept the diagnosis that their child is Deaf. They are in denial that may last for years. Some go so far as placing their Deaf child (whom they view as just having a hearing–impairment) in programs designed for hearing children who have disabilities. This delays the start of effective educational programming and the Deaf child's academic achievement is likely to reflect the delay. Many young Deaf children cling to their hearing mothers excessively. There is almost no meaningful communication. Social media has allowed us to create our own pop–culture behind the scenes, but at the same time we follow trends more than ever and they are often dictated by celebrities on outlets like twitter. • 8. The Three Dimensions Of Celebrity Worship There are three dimensions of celebrity worship which are consistent with the absorption–addiction model (Maltby, Day, McCutcheon, Houran, & Ashe, 2005). These three dimensions are entertainment–social, intense–personal, and borderline–pathological. In the Entertainment–social celebrity worship, an individual develops an attraction to a favorite celebrity, which is consistent with Stever's (1991) observation (as cited by McCutcheon et al., 2003) about the celebrity's perceived ability to capture the attention of fans. It includes attitudes and behaviors such as "My friends and I like to discuss what my favorite celebrity has done," and "Learning the life story of my favorite celebrity is a lot of fun" (McCutcheon et al., 2003). The next level of celebrity worship is characterized by Intense–personal feelings, where behaviors and attitudes like "I consider my favorite celebrity to be my soul mate," and "I have frequent thoughts about my favorite celebrity, even when I don't want to." are common (McCutcheon et al., 2003). The Myth Of The Range Rover And Hollywood The Myth of the Range Rover and Hollywood In modern culture, Hollywood elites and celebrities have appropriated the Range Rover as their daily driving vehicles which signifies not only their wealthiness, but their prestigiousness. The Range Rover is predominantly owned by upper class celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jay–Z and David Beckham, which makes the Range Rover the perfect commodity to exemplify a Hollywood myth. A myth as Roland Barthes describes in Mythologies, is a kind of speech, in which the history of an object is distorted to signify a new contemporary signification that feels completely natural to modern society. The Range Rover, which was originally used in the military and for off roading terrain has had it's history drained and filled with a new history that signifies a much different myth than it used to. In this essay, I will argue that the myth of the Range Rover signifies a prestigious and powerful vehicle, designed with royalty and privilege, made specifically for the celebrities and the famous upper class personalities of Hollywood. The Range Rover's appearance has an authoritative god–like presence caused by the size of the vehicle. It is a large vehicle, but mostly in it's height as it is not very wide and appears significantly slim. Despite how large the body of the vehicle appears, it can only seat five people therefore, virtually no additional seating is gained by the size of the vehicle, thus the size of the vehicle is not for convenience ... Depending upon the type of gossip, then it sets an image of the celebrity themselves for us as a society, who may or may not be followers. Just about everyone has a favorite celebrity whom they obsess over. After reading Deborah KingЕ› article The impact Celebrities have on Our Lives, she claims that as a society we are obsessed with celebrities and the gossip surrounding them. Collin Palmer, a high school sophomore, challenges KingЕ› claim, since he feels that celebrity nature is a part of human nature. Palmers argument states that it is healthy to be obsessed with celebrities; however i feel that celebrity obsession is healthy in moderation, because everyone likes the way a celebrity lives & acts. • 18. Shame, Shame And The Loss What is shame and how different people cope with it. No one knows when shame appeared for a first time. Maybe in ancient times, maybe in 15th century, or perhaps since the dawn of man. The fact, which is known, is that the majority of people experience this feeling at least once in a lifetime. Shame is a strong feeling, which affects not only regular people, but also celebrities. We will see it in the article The Contestant by Daniel Alarcon, where he tells the story of the fame, shame and the loss as a result. Also, in this essay I will show the difference between shame experienced by regular people and celebrities, by analyzing articles from different authors and comparing behavior of stars and people. Shame is a feeling that controls us, scare, and influence human's behavior. Nothing matters when we talk about the feeling of shame: gender, religion, race, age, social status, fame. Before talking about different ways people go through shame, I'd like to talk about what shame is. The word shame comes from an old English "sceamu", Dutch "schamen" and German "scham", according to the dictionary.com, and means a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior. According to the article by Eric Posner called A Terrible Shame: "Shaming is a form of social control. It occurs when a person violates the norms of the community, and other people respond by publicly criticizing, avoiding, or ostracizing him" (2015). In other words, ... Some people may be eager for a celebrity status or be drawn to one who has achieved it for reasons not fully understood. When the word "fame" is thought of, often what comes to mind is the money and the attention that comes with it. However, fame can also bring pain through addiction and the publics lack of acknowledgement that celebrities are people who share the same struggles and stress. America's obsession with "celebrity culture" effects the attitudes, behaviors, and the overall views of an average person, and also those of the celebrity themselves. Because celebrities live in a different world compared to ours, it can easily make our lives seen unpleasantly dull in comparison. Therefore, it's easy to become obsessed with a life that is not our own. Americas obsession with celebrities have created ways to make it possible for anyone to become famous through reality tv shows, but there are rules as to what must be done to get there. Competition shows like Survivor, American Idol, Americas Next Top Model, and Hells Circus pit contestants in no –holds–barred battles for supremacy and financial reward. However, talent doesn't always play the biggest role in winning on these shows; contestants are rewarded for being ruthless, exploitative, and vain. Social psychologists agree that the reasons are complex, but some issues seem to recur. One is that we're bored, and living through movie stars is a way of alleviating that boredom. Another is that we're searching for identity, the evidence for which is that teenagers (those lost souls of adolescence) usually score highest on the CAS. Social fragmentation might also play a part: as family and community values are crushed by the cult of individualism and an omnipresent media, perhaps fantasy relationships are becoming easier to form than real ones (Harrison, 2006). But because of the rise of the social networking sites, the media becomes the supplier of the addiction. As Simon Dumenco, a columnist for Folio, explains, "These [media outlets] are proliferating for the same reason prescriptions of antidepressants and other psychotropic drugs are proliferating. They dull our emotional pain." Our profound access to anything and everything a celebrity does through websites such as Twitter nourishes unhealthy practices of fanaticism.
