Matthew 7:13-15 The broad way. Our own way - selfishness. A way that seems right - man's wisdom. The way of conflict - not seeking God's way. The forsaken way - harsh discipline. Warning against associations with those in the broad way. the broad way is not an easy way.

1. DIFFERENT WAYS
THE BROAD WAY

2. Matthew 7:13-15 "Enter by the
narrow gate; for wide is the gate
and broad is the way that leads to
destruction, and there are many
who go in by it. 14 Because narrow
is the gate and difficult is the way
which leads to life, and there are
few who find it. 15 "Beware of false
prophets, who come to you in
sheep's clothing, but inwardly
they are ravenous wolves.

3. TWO WAYS
A.Last week we looked at the fact that
there are two ways we can be
traveling.
B.Basically one way follows God’s way
and the other does not.
C.Two of the ways we looked at were the
broad and narrow ways.
D.This morning we will look at detail at
the broad way.

4. I. OUR OWN WAY – SELFISHNESS
A. Galatians 5:19-21 Now THE WORKS OF THE
FLESH are evident, which are: adultery,
fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20
idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions,
jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish
ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy,
murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the
like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I
also told you in time past, that those who
practice such things will not inherit the
kingdom of God.

5. I. OUR OWN WAY – SELFISHNESS
B. Philippians 2:3-4 LET NOTHING BE DONE
THROUGH SELFISH AMBITION OR
CONCEIT, but in lowliness of mind let
each esteem others better than himself. 4
Let each of you LOOK OUT NOT ONLY
FOR HIS OWN INTERESTS, but also for
the interests of others.
C. Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone
astray; WE HAVE TURNED, EVERY ONE,
TO HIS OWN WAY; And the LORD has laid
on Him the iniquity of us all.

6. II. A WAY WHICH SEEMS RIGHT –
MAN’S WISDOM
A.Proverbs 16:25 There is A WAY THAT
SEEMS RIGHT TO A MAn, But its end is
the way of death.
B.Proverbs 12:15 THE WAY OF A FOOL IS
RIGHT IN HIS OWN EYES, But he who
heeds counsel is wise.
C.Proverbs 30:12 THERE IS A GENERATION
THAT IS PURE IN ITS OWN EYES, Yet is
not washed from its filthiness.

7. III. THE WAY OF CONFLICT –
NOT SEEKING GOD’S WAY
A. Romans 3:9-18 What then? Are we better than they?
Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews
and Greeks that they are all under sin. 10 As it is
written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There
is none who understands; There is none who seeks
after God. 12 THEY HAVE ALL TURNED ASIDE; They
have together become unprofitable; There is none
who does good, no, not one." 13 "Their throat is an
open tomb; With their tongues they have practiced
deceit"; "The poison of asps is under their lips"; 14
"Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness." 15
"Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 Destruction and
misery are in their ways; 17 And THE WAY OF PEACE
THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN." 18 "There is no fear of God
before their eyes.“

8. III. THE WAY OF CONFLICT –
NOT SEEKING GOD’S WAY
B. Isaiah 59:8 THE WAY OF PEACE THEY HAVE
NOT KNOWN, And there is no justice in their
ways; They have made themselves crooked
paths; Whoever takes that way shall not
know peace.
C. Luke 1:78-79 78 Through the tender mercy of
our God, With which the Dayspring from on
high has visited us; 79 To give light to those
who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
TO GUIDE OUR FEET INTO THE WAY OF
PEACE.“

9. IV. THE FORSAKEN WAY –
HARSH DISCIPLINE
A. Proverbs 15:9-10 The way of the wicked is an
abomination to the LORD, But He loves him who
follows righteousness. 10 HARSH DISCIPLINE IS
FOR HIM WHO FORSAKES THE WAY, And he who
hates correction will die.
B. Proverbs 21:16 A man who wanders from THE WAY
OF UNDERSTANDING Will rest in the assembly of
the dead.
C. Isaiah 28:7 But they also have erred through wine,
And through intoxicating drink are OUT OF THE
WAY; The priest and the prophet have erred through
intoxicating drink, They are swallowed up by wine,
They are OUT OF THE WAY through intoxicating
drink; They err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

10. IV. THE FORSAKEN WAY –
HARSH DISCIPLINE
D. Isaiah 30:10-11 Who say to the seers, "Do not
see," And to the prophets, "Do not prophesy to us
right things; Speak to us smooth things, prophesy
deceits. 11 Get OUT OF THE WAY, Turn aside from
the path, Cause the Holy One of Israel To cease
from before us."
E. Jeremiah 5:4-5 Therefore I said, "Surely these are
poor. They are foolish; For they do not know THE
WAY OF THE LORD, The judgment of their God. 5 I
will go to the great men and speak to them, For
they have known THE WAY OF THE LORD, The
judgment of their God." But these have altogether
broken the yoke And burst the bonds.

11. IV. THE FORSAKEN WAY –
HARSH DISCIPLINE
F. Exodus 32:7-8 And the LORD said to Moses, "Go,
get down! For your people whom you brought out
of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. 8
They have turned aside quickly OUT OF THE WAY
which I commanded them. They have made
themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and
sacrificed to it, and said, 'This is your god, O
Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!' "
G. Deuteronomy 31:29 For I know that after my death
you will become utterly corrupt, and TURN ASIDE
FROM THE WAY which I have commanded you;
and evil will befall you in the latter days, because
you will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to
provoke Him to anger through the work of your
hands.“

12. V. WARNINGS AGAINST ASSOCIATIONS
WITH THOSE IN THE BROAD WAY
A. Proverbs 1:10-15 My son, if sinners entice you, Do
not consent. 11 If they say, "Come with us, Let us
lie in wait to shed blood; Let us lurk secretly for
the innocent without cause; 12 Let us swallow
them alive like Sheol, And whole, like those who
go down to the Pit; 13 We shall find all kinds of
precious possessions, We shall fill our houses
with spoil; 14 Cast in your lot among us, Let us all
have one purse"-- 15 My son, DO NOT WALK IN
THE WAY WITH THEM, Keep your foot from their
path;
B. Proverbs 4:14-15 Do not enter the path of the
wicked, And do not walk in THE WAY OF EVIL. 15
Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and
pass on.

13. V. WARNINGS AGAINST ASSOCIATIONS
WITH THOSE IN THE BROAD WAY
C. Proverbs 1:15 My son, DO NOT WALK IN THE
WAY WITH THEM, Keep your foot from their
path;
D. Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man Who WALKS
NOT IN THE COUNSEL OF THE UNGODLY,
Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in
the seat of the scornful;
E. Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with wise men
will be wise, But THE COMPANION OF
FOOLS WILL BE DESTROYED.

14. V. WARNINGS AGAINST ASSOCIATIONS
WITH THOSE IN THE BROAD WAY
F. Proverbs 2:10-12 When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, 11
Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will
keep you, 12 To DELIVER YOU FROM THE WAY OF
EVIL, From the man who speaks perverse things,
G. Proverbs 12:26 The righteous should choose his
friends carefully, For THE WAY OF THE WICKED
leads them astray.
H. Proverbs 22:5 Thorns and snares are in THE WAY
OF THE PERVERSE; He who guards his soul will
be far from them.
I. 1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: "EVIL
COMPANY CORRUPTS GOOD HABITs.“

15. VI. THE BROAD WAY IS NOT AN EASY WAY
A. Initially it seems easier.
1. Go with the flow.
2. Follow the crowd.
3. Follow the beaten path.
B. But the broad way is very difficult in the end.
C. Proverbs 13:15 Good understanding gains favor,
But THE WAY OF THE UNFAITHFUL IS HARD.
D. Proverbs 4:19 THE WAY OF THE WICKED is like
darkness; They do not know what makes them
stumble.
E. Proverbs 15:10 HARSH DISCIPLINE IS FOR HIM
WHO FORSAKES THE WAY, And he who hates
correction will die.

16. WHAT ABOUT YOU?
A. Matthew 7:13-15 "Enter by the narrow gate; for
wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to
destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14
Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way
which leads to life, and there are few who find it. 15
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in
sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous
wolves.
B. Are you traveling the broad way?
C. If you stay on the broad way it will lead you to
destruction.
D. Thankfully, you don’t have to stay on the broad
way.
E. You can switch direction any time, it’s called
repentance.
