Peter had fished all night but caught nothing. Jesus told him to try fishing again during the day. Though discouraged, Peter agreed to try again at Jesus' word. When they did, they caught a huge number of fish and their nets began to break.
2. Luke 5:1-6 So it was, as the multitude pressed
about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood
by the Lake of Gennesaret, (2) and saw two boats
standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone
from them and were washing their nets. (3) Then He
got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and
asked him to put out a little from the land. And He
sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.
(4) When He had stopped speaking, He said to
Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down
your nets for a catch." (5) But Simon answered and
said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and
caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let
down the net." (6) And when they had done this,
they caught a great number of fish, and their net
was breaking.
3. AT YOUR WORD…
A.Peter was discouraged from fishing
unsuccessfully all night.
B.Jesus told him to try again.
C.Peter reluctantly agrees to try again
because He asked him to.
D.Are we reluctant to do things which God
has commanded?
E. Are we willing to try because he told us
to?
4. I. AT HIS WORD I WILL GO AND PREACH
THE GOSPEL TO ALL NATIONS
A.Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make
disciples of all the nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit,
B.Mark 16:15 And He said to them, "Go into
all the world and preach the gospel to
every creature.
5. II. AT HIS WORD I WILL CONTEND
EARNESTLY FOR THE FAITH
A.Jude 1:3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to
write to you concerning our common salvation,
I found it necessary to write to you exhorting
you to contend earnestly for the faith which was
once for all delivered to the saints.
B.Philippians 1:27 Only let your conduct be
worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I
come and see you or am absent, I may hear of
your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit,
with one mind striving together for the faith of
the gospel,
6. III. AT HIS WORD I WILL GIVE
CHRIST FIRST PLACE IN MY LIFE
A.Colossians 1:18 And He is the head of
the body, the church, who is the
beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
that in all things He may have the
preeminence.
B.Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom
of God and His righteousness, and all
these things shall be added to you.
7. IV. AT HIS WORD I WILL STUDY
HIS WORD
A.2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present
yourself approved to God, a worker who
does not need to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth.
B.Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in
my heart, That I might not sin against
You!
8. V. AT HIS WORD I WILL LET MY
LIGHT SHINE FOR HIM
A.Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine
before men, that they may see your good
works and glorify your Father in heaven.
B.Philippians 2:15 that you may become
blameless and harmless, children of God
without fault in the midst of a crooked
and perverse generation, among whom
you shine as lights in the world,
9. VI. AT HIS WORD I WILL RETURN
GOOD FOR EVIL
A.Matthew 5:44 But I say to you, love your
enemies, bless those who curse you, do
good to those who hate you, and pray for
those who spitefully use you and
persecute you,
B.Luke 6:27-28 "But I say to you who hear:
Love your enemies, do good to those
who hate you, (28) bless those who curse
you, and pray for those who spitefully
use you.
10. VII. AT HIS WORD I WILL BE A
PERSON OF PRAYER
A.Luke 18:1 Then He spoke a parable to
them, that men always ought to pray and
not lose heart,
B.1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always,
(17) pray without ceasing, (18) in
everything give thanks; for this is the will
of God in Christ Jesus for you.
11. VIII. AT HIS WORD I WILL LAY UP TREASURES
IN HEAVEN INSTEAD OF ON EARTH
A. Matthew 6:19-21 "Do not lay up for yourselves
treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal; (20) but lay
up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor rust destroys and where
thieves do not break in and steal. (21) For where
your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
B. Hebrews 10:34 for you had compassion on me in
my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering
of your goods, knowing that you have a better
and an enduring possession for yourselves in
heaven.
12. IX. AT HIS WORD I WILL LOVE
THE BRETHREN
A.John 13:34-35 A new commandment I
give to you, that you love one another; as
I have loved you, that you also love one
another. (35) By this all will know that you
are My disciples, if you have love for one
another."
B.1 John 3:14 We know that we have
passed from death to life, because we
love the brethren. He who does not love
his brother abides in death.
13. X. AT HIS WORD I WILL LOOK
FORWARD TO HIS SECOND COMING
A.Titus 2:13 looking for the blessed hope
and glorious appearing of our great God
and Savior Jesus Christ,
B.Philippians 3:20 For our citizenship is in
heaven, from which we also eagerly wait
for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
14. ARE YOU WILLING TO TAKE
JESUS AT HIS WORD?
A. At His word will you go and preach the gospel to all
nations
B. At His word will you contend earnestly for the faith
C. At His word will you give Christ first place in your
life
D. At His word will you study His word
E. At His word will you let your light shine for him
F. At His word will you return good for evil
G. At His word will you be a person of prayer
H. At His word will you lay up treasures in heaven
instead of on earth
I. At His word will you love the brethren
J. At His word will you look forward to His second
coming
