2. Numbers 21:4 Then they
journeyed from Mount Hor
by the Way of the Red Sea,
to go around the land of
Edom; and the soul of the
people became very
discouraged on the way.
4. DISCOURAGEMENT
• Satan has used the weapon of
discouragement to beat down
and defeat some of the most
spiritual Christians. Following
are a few cases:
5. I. DAVID WAS DISCOURAGED.
• "O my God, MY SOUL IS CAST
DOWN WITHIN ME: Therefore
will I remember thee from the
land of Jordan, and of the
Hermonites, from the hill
Mizar." (Psalms 42:6).
6. II. ELIJAH WAS DISCOURAGED.
• "But he himself went a day's journey
into the wilderness, and came and sat
down under a juniper tree: and HE
REQUESTED FOR HIMSELF THAT HE
MIGHT DIE AND SAID, IT IS ENOUGH
NOW, O LORD, TAKE AWAY MY LIFE; for I
am not better than my fathers." (1 Kings
19:4).
7. III. JEREMIAH WAS DISCOURAGED.
• "WOE IS ME, MY MOTHER, THAT
THOU HAST BORNE ME A MAN OF
STRIFE AND A MAN OF
CONTENTION TO THE WHOLE
EARTH! I have neither lent on usury,
nor men have lent to me on usury;
yet every one of them doth curse
me." (Jer. 15:10).
8. IV. JOB WAS DISCOURAGED.
• "MY SOUL IS WEARY OF
MY LIFE; I will leave my
complaint upon myself; I
will speak in the bitterness
of my soul." (Job 10:1).
9. V. MOSES WAS DISCOURAGED.
• "I AM NOT ABLE TO BEAR ALL THIS
PEOPLE ALONE, BECAUSE IT IS TOO
HEAVY FOR ME. And if thou deal
thus with me, KILL ME, I pray thee,
out of hand, if I have found favor in
thy sight; and let me not see my
wretchedness." (Num. 11:14, 15).
10. VI. REBEKAH WAS DISCOURAGED.
• "And Rebekah said to Isaac, I AM
WEARY OF MY LIFE because of the
daughters of Heth: if Jacob takes a
wife of the daughters of Heth, such
as these which are the daughters of
the land, what good shall my life do
me?" (Gen. 27:46).
11. VII. SOLOMON WAS DISCOURAGED.
• "Therefore I HATED LIFE;
because the work that is
wrought under the sun is
grievous unto me: for ALL IS
VANITY AND VEXATION OF
SPIRIT." (Eccles. 2:17).
13. A. RELY ON PRAY TO GOD - Vss. 1-6
{1} Hear a just cause, O LORD, Attend to my cry; Give
ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips. {2}
Let my vindication come from Your presence; Let
Your eyes look on the things that are upright. {3}
You have tested my heart; You have visited me in the
night; You have tried me and have found nothing; I
have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
{4} Concerning the works of men, By the word of
Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the
destroyer. {5} Uphold my steps in Your paths, That
my footsteps may not slip. {6} I have called upon
You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to
me, and hear my speech.
14. B. REALIZE GOD’S PROTECTION - Vss. 7-14
{7} Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand,
O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise
up against them. {8} Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide
me under the shadow of Your wings, {9} From the wicked
who oppress me, From my deadly enemies who surround
me. {10} They have closed up their fat hearts; With their
mouths they speak proudly. {11} They have now surrounded
us in our steps; They have set their eyes, crouching down to
the earth, {12} As a lion is eager to tear his prey, And like a
young lion lurking in secret places. {13} Arise, O LORD,
Confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the
wicked with Your sword, {14} With Your hand from men, O
LORD, From men of the world who have their portion in this
life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They
are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their
possession for their babes.
15. C. REMEMBER ONE DAY YOU WILL
BE PRESENT WITH GOD - Vs. 15
• {15} As for me, I will see Your
face in righteousness; I shall
be satisfied when I awake in
Your likeness.
16. DISCOURAGEMENT
• HAVE YOU ALLOWED SATAN
TO DISCOURAGE YOU?
• SATAN WANTS TO KEEP YOU
FROM DOING GOD’S WILL.
• DON’T LET SATAN WIN WITH
YOUR LIFE!
