One major social problem that concerns me is social division. Social divisions include but are
not limited to: gender, race, class, identity, language barriers, and geographical locations. They
are often separated into categories of people. Ex. Homeless, elderly, sex offenders, single parents,
disabilities, children, teens, etc. In today's time, we seem to point the finger on everyone else
rather than taking the blame ourselves and it is not surprising to see that the majority is being
accused on young people in particular. With the rate of crime and increasing amount of teen
suicide, this can be easy to point the finger at them. However, we all share the responsibility of
the social problems at hand. We all disrupt social order for our own pleasing. With the busyness of
life we do not stop and take the time needed to acknowledge the needs of others. We lose the
incentive we once had to care for others for a mere moment of pleasure we may receive. And due to
that mere moment of pleasure, we come open the door of diversity, social justice, and at–risk
populations. The young people of today's society are more at risk then the elderly. The young are
the next generations to come. More and more youth are suffering from psychological problems and
are lacking incentive and failure to thrive. The unresolved issues play a part in the future. The

and Tribes are such deprived sections have historically been poor, deprived of basic human rights
and treated as social inferiors in our country and they still facing economic, social, cultural and
political discrimination in the name of caste. Gandhian and Ambedkar's views differs on this issue,
Gandhi viewed this as a social issue whereas Dr.Ambedkar viewed this as economic and political
issue caused by upper caste people. Government of India had recognized them as "Scheduled Caste"

Everyone put their savings into the stock market in New York City on Wall Street. Then the stock
market crashed and people were financially wiped out. Factories and businesses began firing
people and for those who still had jobs got paid barely anything. Over 12,000 Americans were
becoming unemployed every single day, this lead up to having 12 million people without jobs.
Also, the drought in the middle of the country decreased the amount of farm production. Farmers
couldn't support themselves because they couldn't grow crops. Kids couldn't go to school because
schools had to shut down due to lack of money. People couldn't even make enough money to meet

Introduction– India was called a 'Sparrow of Gold' in the past. Indians were prosperous. Many
outsiders attacked and looted it. Some of them went back while the remaining settled here.
Britishers came here and looted it. They spread their colonies all over India. They ruled over India.
At that time the condition of Indian economy and society was very worse. When India got freedom
from Britishers in 1947 it tried to develop. The main focus of Indian policies makers was on the
eradication of poverty. Five years plan was made for the purpose of eradication of poverty. But still
there are so many problems in the elimination of poverty. Some important barriers are as follows–
1.Over population– As per census of 2011 Indian total population is 1,210,193,422. India's ranking
is second in population. Is assumed by 2026 India would be first in high population in the world
and it defeat China in population. Day by day our population is growing more and more but we are

issue does not have a universal definition, rather, a social problem is something that has an impact
on a person, group or society as a whole and is in need of remedy. Social problems vary in societies
and geographical locations along with time periods. I also learned how the structure of a society is
the way it is organized– institutions, social groups, statuses and roles. In addition, I learned about
the three sociological theories– structural functionalism, conflict theory and symbolic interactionism.
I don't think the authors really had bias in this chapter just because it was explaining the basics
and we didn't really get into social problems yet. One aspect of this chapter that I thought was
particularly interesting was our sociological imagination. Our sociological imagination refers to
the capability to see connections between our personal lives and the social world we live in. We
distinguish between our private troubles and public issues to see the connections of our lives, or the
actions of individuals. I agree with C. Wright Mills in that you cannot apprehend an individual or
the history of a society until you understand both. We can look to the culture and social structure to
find the problem and fix it. I think using this method is valuable in the long run and can help people
make more clear hypothesis about how to fix a problem because you will thoroughly understand
