Critique Essay of Process and Learning
Out of all the projects for this course, I think the critique paper was the hardest because it challenged
how I thought about scientific journals when it came to identifying weak parts of a study and how to
critique the strengths and weaknesses within those articles in a scientific manner. As a result, my
writing process was affected by this in depth look into each of the three articles I chose on stroke
rehabilitation with a focus on virtual reality, and my understanding of science writing grew with this

For the proposal between my partner, Alicia Buettner, and I, we decided to find something that
related to each of our health profession majors. Our research for the proposal revealed the
importance of occupational and physical therapists working together in the field and the
changing technology in prostheses within rehabilitation treatment. With both topics in mind, we
chose to have our proposal addressing the need for occupational therapy (OT) and physical
therapy (PT) students working together in a class at the University of Findlay that also focused
on prostheses. After deciding on a topic for our proposal, the next step in the writing process was
following the break down for each section of the proposal that you, the professor, provided our
peers and us in the classroom. By discussing the content required for each of the sections in the
proposal and the correct formats we were to be using during class time, my partner and I were
able to gain a grasp on what you were requiring from our proposal. For example, Alicia and I spent
a great deal of time looking over the notes we wrote down from the board to make sure we were

towards segmented assimilation which has had a great impact on the lives of young kids who have

Similarities and Differences
Prior to completing this paper, I thought that critical thinking and creative problem solving were
very different. However, I find that they are very much alike. Critical thinking and creative problem
solving follow very similar steps to reach a solution.
Conceptualizing and preparing are the beginning phases at which time one realizes there is a
problem. Stage two is the applying and analyzing or incubation stage. After success has been reached
at this stage, the process proceeds to the synthesizing or illumination stage. This could also be
considered the Aha stage where an idea comes to light. The last stage is the evaluation or verification
to determine the success of the solution.
One difference that should be discussed is that the creative process appears to be more open and
looks for more than one resolution to a problem. An example of this is the story at the end of
chapter nine. The question presented was "Show how it is possible to determine the height of a tall
building with the aid of barometer" (Dacey & Lennon, 1998, p. 185). The professor expected
an answer using physics logic, but the student was creative and thought outside the box. By doing
this, there were many answers to the question. The critical thinking process is rigid and expects to
find only one resolution.

can use sense perception as a way of knowing. In these problems, real life situations allow for the

cold, concrete parking garage to about the 3rd or 4th level. As I got out of the car I noticed that
there were only a few cars around us in the dim lit garage, it was around 6pm so it was already
dark and freezing cold outside. All us girls started walking towards the doors that led to the
elevators laughing and talking loudly in our heels and short, fancy dresses when Cheyann stopped
dead in her tracks and froze up.

do not see the danger in walking alone in dangerous areas because of the recent empowerments to
women or other reasons, while those are great and very revolutionary women still need to be
aware that predators are still out there and they do not care if you feel empowered or not, they are

would have to apply no bias to a situation and evaluate the motives of a person or group. Critical
thinking is important because it helps question and evaluate arguments in order to properly justify a
position (Vaughn and MacDonald, 20). A critical thinker looks for all evidence, which is a prime
