1. The Middle Colonies consisted of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
The important attributes and characteristics of these colonies were that the population of
people that lived here were a more diverse population. There were more cultures and
religions in the population. The Middle Colonies were also known as the “Bread
Colonies” because they were big producers of grains. Wheat, barley and rye were the
main grains grown in the Middle Colonies. Factories were also important and iron works
were produced. The climate was less harsh and tended to be mild. The soil was more
favorable for growing crops.
