Introduction
I believe the brain is the most important organ in the body. The brain regulates or commands others
organs in the body. Therefore, the career I picked to pursued is a neuropsychology.
Neuropsychology is an important, because they understand how brain works and how to treat it.
Imagine having a brain concussion. Without a neuropsychology we will not be able to understand

Usually day time. A medical Student stated that he gets to his clinic around eight A.M and ends

disorder. This was the case for Phineas Gage, who developed behavioural changes after a tamping
iron passed through his brain in 1848 (Harlow, 1868, cited Jansari, 2010). However, progress in the
field of cognitive psychology has enabled the development of complex theoretical models of
cognitive function and improved research techniques. Advances in technology have given
researchers the tools to view damaged brains before death and compare them to normally
functioning, intact brains. As a result, a more challenging aim of cognitive neuropsychology has
emerged: understanding and explaining normal cognitive processes. This is achieved by studying a
deficit in cognitive function in a brain–damaged patient and making inferences about intact
cognition. For example, Shallice and Warrington's (1970, cited Hitch, 2010) investigation of patient
KF with acquired brain damage showed that he had an impaired auditory digit span but normal
intelligence and performance in long–term learning and memory and understanding spoken
language. This supported a dissociation between short–term memory and long–term memory

following: line crossing (also known as Albert's Test), letter cancellation, star cancellation, copying,
line bisection, and representational drawing (i.e. clock drawing task; Wilson, Cockburn, & Halligan,
1987). Each test and any subtests within the battery will be tabulated in greater detail below. It is
important to note that many ADHOC versions of these tests are available online and can also be

administer the original tests if they are available at the time as it will mean more reliable and valid
scoring. Cancellation Tests The main purpose of cancellation tasks are to assess for deficits in visual

The journey through this first year in Midwestern University's Clinical Psychology program has
been one of self–exploration and discovery. I have expanded my knowledge of the field of
psychology while growing as an individual and clinician. The lessons I have learned at the Cancer
Support Community (CSC) are priceless. Furthermore, the academic knowledge I gained has made
me grow as a clinician. In this paper, I will define the two main training models in the field of

Program Models There are two main training models utilized at the graduate level within the field of
psychology. The Scientist–Practitioner model was the first to be developed and is used in most of
the Ph.D. programs throughout the country. This model emphasizes the importance of conducting
empirical research while learning the clinical skills necessary to treat clients. On the contrary, the
Practitioner–Scholar model emphasizes learning the appropriate clinical skills in a more applied and
hands–on manner, while becoming avid consumers of research. The Practitioner–Scholar model is

Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience. Cognitive Neuropsychology is concerned with the
patterns of cognitive performance and emphasis on the cognitive effects of brain–damaged patients
who suffered lesions, injuries or diseases, providing vest information on normal human cognition.
(Eysenck and Keane 2015, p.5) Whereas cognitive neuroscience involves in–depth study of our
brain and behaviours. As the brain contains numerous neurones and is so complicated, the cognitive
neuroscience emphasis on the biological side of the brain and focuses on the lobes that are divided
from the cerebral cortex.
The main similarity of cognitive neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience is that they are both
interested in brain–damaged patients and believe that different areas of the brain are highly
specialised. For example, one of the main theoretical assumptions of cognitive neuropsychology
states 'modularity', which means the modules in the cognitive system function independently, or
separately of each other. (Eysenck and Keane 2015, p.6) In addition, it is also explained that these
modules do show 'domain specificity', meaning the modules responds only to the specific kinds of
