Strategic Alignment Is A Method For Understanding The...
Strategic alignment is a method for understanding the nature of a business through the association of business processes and strategies (Morrison,
Ghose, Dam, Hinge & Hoesch–Klohe, 2011). The use of strategic alignment allows an organization to contemplate its long life and to find how
achievable its visions for the future are (Morrison et al., 2011). On the other hand, 'best practice' demonstrates an established set of human resource
practices that can be utilized within any circumstance to achieve competitive advantage and a win–win situation for all parties. When designing a
remuneration and performance management system, it is recommended for the Starbucks Corporation to utilize 'strategic alignment', as this approach

customer requests and needs a top priority, but its employees are vital towards it success.
Unique Employee Relationship and Open Communication
The Corporation recognizes its employees as a crucial segment of its view from itself as a business serving the community; its employees are vital for
its growth, helping the business grow and thrive ("Working at Starbucks", 2016). As stated on its website, employed at Starbucks is comparable to

Business Management: Methods to Develop and Enhance...
Q1: Part I– Methods by Which I will Develop and Enhance my Communications Skills
My organization communication philosophy is holistic; as such, I do not believe that communication skills and abilities are an isolated skill set. I
believe they are fully integrated into the daily tasks required of all employees at every level of the organization.
Thus, I will develop and enhance my communication skills by firstly identifying my weaknesses, compiling work situations where communication
missteps can be costly, compiling work situations where communication channels operate as they ought to, and finally I will identify various ways to
develop and exercise new and existing communication abilities.
Communication Weaknesses Whether I attribute it to my cultural upbringing or simply my personality, one of my chief communication weaknesses, is
an inability to separate emotion from leadership decisions. I often take the incompetence of colleagues to be a personal affront and respond as if I
were disrespected rather respond to conflict situations with certain objectivity. This often means that when a conflict arises in the work context I am
ruled my emotions rather than by cognitive functions. This poses a serious problem, because I am far less likely to be effective in identifying a
solution when a problem arises.
This weakness of reacting personally is compounded by a tendency to avoid stating and addressing conflict as it emerges. I often wait and avoid
conflict until the

Why Different Communication Methods Are Used In The...
1.1)Explain why different communication methods are used in the business environment.
There are loads of ways to communicate in the business world, without communication in a business there could be many problems which could
eventually lead to the business being unsuccessful and closing down. Some examples of communicating in the business are: face to face, phone calls,
writing (sending a letter), emails and even conference calls. These different ways of communicating in a business are used where it suits the situation,
time and purpose. one of the main ways to communicate in a business is by telephone, this is important for many reasons whether your communicating
externally or internally in the business. Telephones in a business are used by all employees it ranges from the receptionist all the way to the director
of the business. An example of using the telephone internally in a business environment is where a receptionist calls up her superiors to inform them
that a client has arrived or to remind them of any meetings. An example of using the telephone externally in a business environment where a company
calls up their suppliers either to place an order or to track and order. Example of a telephone call in an estate agency
A homeowner is calling up an estate agency because he/she wants to sell or put the property on rent so they enquire about the market rate for their
property and or management costs for them giving the property to put on rent, the worker at the estate

BUSINESS RESEARCH METHODS
Subject: Common problems, issues and constraints faced by business researchers during the Research Process
Introduction:
Business research involves the systematic and objective process of gathering data and transforming it into useful information. The research process is
not confined around a single universal methodology. Infact it differs from one research study to another depending on the purpose of the research, the
industry/ sector of the client company concerned, the research method/ tools used etc. As the research process differs, researcher faces different
problems and issues pertaining to the research at almost every stage of the research process.
It is important to note that the research problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As mentioned earlier, the researcheer needs to make sure that the research expenditure does not exceed the agreed budget between the researcher and
the client. Whereas, large organizations persistantly require additional elements to include in the study. This increases the scope of the study and
requires more resources increasing the cost and time invested in the study.
Case Analysis As An Example:
Mentioned below is an interesting case of GSAA (Great Scott Arts Association ) which is a very good example to analyze the problems and
constraints faced by the researcher in a new research project.
Background of the Case:
The GSAA was established in 1991 to assist several existing cultural groups in Mosquito Falls and to promote and coordinate arts activities in the
area. Mosquito Falls is a town of 7500 people about 30 miles north of Saint Marvin, on the Highway. To date GSAA is a non profit organisation, tax
exempted with a board of directors but no staff or office space.
The Task to be accomplised were:
a. Continue development of Association and Plan for its future
b. Implement a general membership structure and campaign.
c. Design a GSAA newsletter and publish the first issues.
d. Identify possible funding sources, gather guidelines from possible funders and determine what will most likely gauge their interest.
The above mentioned tasks provide the framework to develop the research objectives. The purpose of the research is to:
a. Determine the

Assessment 1: Structured Abstract
This structured abstract will review the topic of 'leadership' through the research of, Fiedler, Ahn and Ettner, Muchiri et al and Vimba et al.
1.Brief summary of the theory and progression in the field (i.e., how has the theory developed since first proposed?)
Fielder's research, which occurred in 1964, proposes that the most important aspect of successful leadership is the relationship between the leader and
his or her subordinates and that this aspect creates the conditions for success. Fiedler also proposes a second important dimension, task structure, which,
within the context of the relationship between the leader and his or her subordinates, also impacts leadership success.
Fiedler recognises there are numerous variables within the above hypothesis, such as, task specificity or task ambiguity, power of the leader,
acceptance of the leader by his or her team, permissive leadership style or controlling leadership style. Fiedler categorises and presents these variables
in an eight–cubed model as a means of showing the way in which different combinations of these variables may or may not determine successful
leadership. The author posits that the way in which these variables interact determines the conditions in which the leader is successful, or otherwise.
In the time since Fiedler's research the subject of leadership has received significant and ongoing attention. Among numerous authors on

Explain Two Methods Of Creating A Business Public Image
A business will aim to create a public image through the following means: * Public Relations o Public relations is the practice of managing the spread
of information between an organisation (eg a company) and the public. For example; print, online and reputation management campaigns. *
Advertising o Advertising is a method of marketing and communication used to promote or sell a good, service or campaign. For example; TV adverts,
radio commercials, billboards, pamphlets, etc. * Community Engagement o Community engagement is the process in which organisations (eg a
company) build permanent and ongoing relationships in order to benefit a community and build a good reputation. For example donations,
sponsorship, etc. Businesses and companies... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a business relationship where an economic exchange takes place between two separate parties. Sponsorship is not a form of donation, but rather, a
business arrangement. In the means of participating within a sponsorship an organisation establishes a lasting image of the business that are noticed by
citizens within the wider community. Corporate sponsorship can be provided through various payments to help fund an event or through providing
support such as equipment, catering, merchandise, labour, land, etc. In return, the sponsoring business benefits by improving visibility, positioning the
business public image positively, increasing publicity and brand awareness and a heightened market reach. An example of where a business can
provide corporate sponsorship could include an airline sponsoring an elite sporting tournament (eg grand final). The airline would provide deals to
spectators and players to give them the opportunity to reach the destination of the event and also provide the event with sums of money to help fund

The World Trade Organization (WTO) unique set of rules and guidelines established for place–name products are known as the Geographical Indication
(GI). Rogers (2016) defines the mentioned regulations as a form of legal protection, which reserves the use of a specific place name in association
with a particular product name for a product that genuinely comes from that location. Moreover, GI confers something distinctive to the specified
product. Ideally, GI is codified into the WTO language to refer to a variety of systems that aim at ensuring the accurate use of geographical place

Question Five
"Dewey defeats Truman" was the headline of the Chicago Tribune that was inaccurately published in 1948 declaring the victory of Governor Dewey,
the Republican candidate over Harry Truman, the Democratic incumbent. In essence, the headline was guided by Gallup's quota sampling, which had
accurately predicted previous presidential elections results in 1936, 1940, and 1944. According to Erikson and Tedin (2017), the mentioned pollster
projected that the Republican presidential candidate would defeat the incumbent. Moreover, the opinion–poll firm was so confident of Dewey's victory
that it stopped polling during the last few weeks of the campaign. Similarly, nearly all political observers regarded the outcome as certain. However,
contrary to expectations, the incumbent defeated Dewey narrowly by 49.5% of the popular vote against the latter's 45% (Waller, 2017). Ideally, Gallup
and other pollsters were misguided by the quota–sampling

If more beds are acquired, Mt. Sinai Hospital will have immediate additional cost of purchasing more beds as well as additional cost in the x–ray
department as serving more patients will results in handling more x–rays. This optimal solution will use up its maximum unutilized capacity of 7,000
more x–rays.
(c) Laboratory tests: 3.1m + 2.6s ≤ 15000
Optimal solution: m= 2790.909, s= 2104.545
Laboratory tests: 3.1(2790.909) + 2.6(2104.545) = 14123.63≈ 14124
The laboratory is not utilized to its maximum capacity. The laboratory is capable of handling another 15,000 tests per year. In this optimal solution,
there will be another 14,124 lab tests only.
Hence, it is able to perform 876 more lab tests (15,000–14,124) per year.
If Mt. Sinai Hospital acquires more lab space, there will be no additional cost until it reached its maximum capacity of 15,000 additional lab tests.
However, there will be additional cost if it exceeds its maximum capacity.
(d) X–ray: 1m + 2s ≤ 7000
Optimal solution: m= 2790.909, s= 2104.545
X–ray: 1(2790.909) + 2(2104.545) = 7000
The x–ray facility is being used to its maximum of 7,000 x–rays in this optimal solution. The x–ray department could not perform more than additional
7,000 x–rays per year without significant additional cost. If Mt. Sinai Hospital acquires more x–ray facilities, a significant additional cost would be
incurred which is not favourable.

Market Research Methods For Business
Market research methods in business
Primary research is data that is gathered first hand from an original source, and has not been collected before. It often involves going out and asking
people for information, hence its alternative name field research.
Observational research involves watching and observing people's activities. For example, businesses use cookies on their websites in order to track
what pages users are visiting on their website. By using cookies, businesses will be able to know what pages are most popular among users on their
website. Information collected through cookies can also help businesses improve marketing and their website. Experimental research is when an
investigation or test is conducted in order to discover new opportunities which can help to maximise revenues for a business. This could be done by
aiming their product at a different demographic e.g. elderly people and modifying (or experimenting with) their product to make it more appealing to
that demographic. Surveys involve asking people questions in order to collect information about what people think about something. This can be done
face to face, by telephone, by post and online too.
E–marketing research involves using the internet to contact and interact with consumers about a businesses' product(s). Examples of e–marketing
include online surveys and cookies (as mentioned before). A focus group is a research method in which a small group of people are asked to give
their opinions and

The Last Seven Weeks Of Business Research Methods
The last seven weeks in Business Research methods have been a very rewarding experience. This class has taught me new things about proper
research and refreshed past information I have learned in other research classes. Throughout this class, we have covered topics spanning every aspect
of the research process. We started with oral and written presentation of research findings. Next moving to types of research studies, including
qualitative, quantitative, observation, experiments, and surveys. Finally, we covered topics such as creation of a questionnaire and how to utilize data
in the final two weeks of the course. There was one specific thing that was a new experience for me, the exploration of qualitative research. Most of my
research background in the course of my undergraduate studies involved quantitative research and creation of surveys. It great to be able to explore
qualitative methods such as focus groups and interviews and to understand how they can properly supplement or even replace these more statistical
based research methods (Cooper & Schindler, 2014). The one topic we discussed in the class that I had previously learned through but needed to have
my knowledge reinforced on, was creation of a questionnaire. This class has reminded me of how important the process of actually creating a survey
is. A questionnaire's design can affect the results of a study in a major way unless researchers design their instruments in a manner to reduce the

instruments used, the procedure, a data analysis plan, and the sample size justification (Anon., n.d.). The research design methods should be discussed,
such as whether it was quantitative, qualitative, or mixed. The quantitative method assesses the participant responses on a measure. The qualitative
method is a semi–structured interview that gets transcribed. The mixed method is a mix of the quantitative and the qualitative methods. Discussion of
the participants should discuss the sample of the population, how they were selected, why they were selected, and the method used to select them. The
instruments used in the study should be discussed, what types of instruments, the scales and subscales, how the scales are computed, and the reliability
and validity of those scales. There should also be reference to the researchers that designed the scales that were used in the study. The procedure,
explaining how the instruments should be used, should be discussed in detail where the reader understands every step of the process. The data analysis
plan should discuss how the data was analyzed, including statistical tests, statistical assumptions of those tests, and the justification for the statistical

a. The economic factor: According to the neoclassical school of thought, consumers are rational. They make buying decisions toward getting the most
out of everything. They just take into factor the economy of use, convenience, efficiency in use, dependability in use and finally improvement in
earnings. Nevertheless in practice, these elements aren't the only ones used or often poorly applied. Indeed, psychological and sociological factors
are also used when making a buying decision. b. The psychological factor: Psychological factors affect the way consumers think and behave while
making a buying decision. For example some consumers do compulsive purchases because of their mood, which often are completely irrational.
According to Black, Donald W. (2007), Compulsive buying disorder (CBD) is characterized by excessive shopping cognitions and buying behavior
that leads to distress or impairment. c. The sociological factor: This factor is highly important for companies for whom brand image result from
reputation. In fact many consumers from all around the world base their buying decision upon stereotypes. Sander Gilman (1985) argued that
stereotypes are representations that are not accurate, but a projection of one to another. According to this definition the fact that many people believe
that "Germans make good products" is a stereotype. This phenomenon might result to a biased representation of a product quality. A

Potential Challanges
Several potential challenges exist to the validity and reliability of the research questions, data and analysis. After looking at the survey and the data

Shopping Malls and heavy populated areas were the locations chosen for this survey. One major concern is that the participants used were not

According to (Rouse, 2013), lean management is a method of running a business that supports the concept of constant improvement. Therefore, lean
management is a long–term approach to work that thoroughly seeks to achieve small, incremental changes in processes in order to improve efficiency
and quality. The theory was first established between 1948 and 1975 by Taiichi Ohno and Shigeo Shingo the two Japanese engineers (Arnheiter and
Maleyeff, 2005). But the method was initially found in the works of Henry Ford, who "Ohno greatly appreciated and studied Ford because of his
accomplishments and the reduction of waste at early Ford assembly plants" (Arnheiter and Maleyeff, 2005). Thus Lean management eliminates all
forms of waste, decreasing errors, shrinking inventory and ordering or supplying parts "just–in–time," therefore decreasing warehousing costs. (Rand,
2013) identified the seven forms of waste, including waste in unnecessary motion, over–processing and transportation. Thus by doing this it will saves
the business money and allows workers to pay attention to more value–creating activities. There are four main principles of lean which are (Rouse,
2013) firstly defining the value from the perspective of the end customer, identifying each steps in a business process and eliminating non value
activities, making the value–creating steps occur in tight sequence and then finally repeating the first three steps on a constantly basis until all the
waste has been eliminated. The

Industry and academic papers have seen the significance of total quality management in terms of its positive relationship on increased organizational
competitiveness specifically in the areas of product, quality, reputation and business result competitiveness as this management principle is aimed at
the creation of a competitive business environment (Rampersad 2006). Meanwhile, the learning organization principle attempts to reinforce the
concepts within total quality management to be able to sustain competitive advantages in the end.
The four quadrants of the balanced scorecard which will be discussed within this paper are as follows:

The shareholders are the suppliers who will coordinate with the company properly in terms of providing supplies and materials. The customer is
another stakeholder who will determine the results of the new strategy implemented by the company. The employees will also be affected as the
processes they apply will also change because of the alterations in the strategy. Revenue is projected to increase because of the good service as a
result of a Balanced Scorecard strategy. Better use of company assets because of the increased efficiency of the workers. And higher costs for the

Business problems can be researched by using descriptive statistical and inferential methods. Data collection instruments and various sampling methods

Uses of Scientific methods in Business An Overview:
Scientific research serves us to comprehend the world around us, how things work and why certain things look or act the way they do. Scientific
research consists of intrusiveness, observations, experiments and evaluations. It attempts to use these to answer questions about what causes differing
phenomena. It is important to note that scientific research does not provide absolute solutions to questions, but preferably gives apparent answers
based on, evidence gathered and contemporary knowledge. New information can lead to the denial of ideas previously believed to be true. This article

The quantitative approach often looks at larger groups than the qualitative method and gets a good idea of the major trends among a large sample size.
Quantitative research is an effect approach when it is used correctly. People generally put a lot of faith in quantitative research. One of the crucial items
when using quantitative data is to decide on what sample size to use and if the sample reflects the population you wish to examine. Senior executives
might feel more comfortable relying on quantitative data because it is strictly facts, without interpretation. * * How might a qualitative research
company lessen the senior–level executive 's skepticism? *
In the readings for this course a scenario is described asking the participants of a group to imagine something. As a result of the ideas of the focus
group, a new perception for a movie was conceived. Sometimes what researchers need for the research are ideas from outside the box of
preconceived notions. The qualitative approach to research can be very effective when done correctly. It takes time and effort to accurately set up,
carry out, and analyze quantitative research. The problem begins when people skew the way in which they either collect or analyze data to benefit their
own cause. A researcher needs to remember two things when looking at data. First, they need to determine how

Assessment Methods in Business Essay
When accessing the performance of an IS, Palmius (2007) cites three types of approach are the most common: economical benefit, usability
measurement and measurement of user/customer satisfaction. Economical benefits are linked frequently in return on investments (ROI) and
cost–benefit analysis (CBA). Usability measurements regularly refer to interface quality while user/consumer satisfaction indicates quality of service
studies. All of these can be indicator of performance in some specific level, but isolated they cannot measure the success of an IS.
Much of the assessment methods are described by the following categories: observation of a system and the interactions of users within it, gathering the

This model is based on the multiple relations between each variable and how they impact the individual and the organization. It should be looked as
whole, not just on each component separately. As it was organized, Organizational impact was the most important aspect, since that is where the real
success or not lays down. A great system with great user satisfaction, for example, is great, but without real and perceivable results, it cannot be
considered a success.
However, there were critics of the model, like Seddon (1997), by Palmius (2007), who argues that the model contains both procedures and variance
variables which could make results confusing to describe, evaluate, and comprehend. Pitt et al. (1995), by Palmius (2007) reasoned for the
relationships between user and IT department, indicating some type of service component should be added to the model. Myers et al. (1997), by
Palmius (2007) explored to other possible impacts that IS and IT may have other than the individuals and in the organization, like the industry or society.
Even though Seddon and Kiev (1994) and Rai et al. (2002), both by Palmius (2007), made studies validating the model, Delone and Mclean

Abstract
In this study, I present findings to show if there is a causal relationship between advertising costs and sales revenues. The financial data was extracted
from the Annual and Financial Reports of Target Corporation, a publicly traded company. I performed several statistical tests with finding that support
my hypothesis. I find that advertising cost does positively affect sales.
Introduction
Advertising attracts and informs current and potential customers about a product or service. Advertising usually increases a company's sales volume
which creates higher profits over time. Yearly financial data was obtained from Target Corporation's from 2001 to 2015. The annual sales revenues and
advertising costs were extracted from the data.
The hypothesis is that advertising has a positive effect on sales. The study will examine the following: The correlation

2 Methods of Business Analysis
The first tool that can be used is the SWOT analysis. This is a tool that helps a company define and look at their Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities
and Threats on mostly an internal level. A company uses this tool to dissect the areas that they exceed in and the areas of improvement, the areas of
opportunity they can take advantage of and where other companies can pose a threat to their business. This is a powerful tool that can, with a little
thought, help a company uncover opportunities that are well placed for exploitation by the organization (Manktelow & Carlson, n.d.). This tool also
helps a company understand its weaknesses and in turn manage and eliminate threats that could catch the organization unaware. The following are...

This is not a before and after comparison, but rather a with or without comparison. Several factors go into a cost benefit analysis, these include the cost
of the equipment, power consumption of the equipment, units produced per hour, the labor costs (before and after) installation, quality of production –
reject/recall rate or margin of error of products produced, the floor space needed to make the improvement (will it fit into the old space), installation
costs of the machinery, operator costs, and environmental factors like is the machine louder and neede to soundproofed or insurance premiums for the
new machinery (about.com). When looking at the scenario from this perspective it turns the decision into a definite financial situation on whether to
make the changes. Another item that needs to be taken into consideration is if the new technology is proven and potential for failure and flexibility. If
the new technology fails then a company has to revert back to old method of production at an increased expense. Process flexibility results from being
able to build different products from the same production line with minor adjustments (Priniciples, n.d.).
These tools would prove very beneficial to FFI in the fact that the SWOT is addressing the internal and external factors that do and can affect how FFI
does business and help them make their global strategy. The

Methods And Techniques For Business Processes
Businesses have a variety of tools and techniques available to improve and correct operations. Among those tools available for businesses to use is
Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA), and Total Quality Management (TQM).
Plan – do – check – act, (PDCA) is a four–step problem solving iterative technique used to improve business processes. Shewhart introduced the
concept in 1930. However it was Deming who came to represent the PDCA wheel (PDCA, n.d.). PDCA was developed as an analysis and
measurement tool in order to identify deviation form customer demand. It can be used to improve both major performances as well as incremental

Communication between management and operators are not considered either. Also the PDCA cycle is limited and it applies more to improvement of
individual processes than to a broader organizational change. It does not consider operational strategic objectives. These are just a few downsides with
the PDCA cycle (Change management consultant, n.d.) Total Quality Management (TQM), is a management system that involves all organization
functions, which focuses on meeting customers' needs and organizational objectives which involve all employees continual improvement, and that
seeks to improve the quality of products and services through ongoing refinements in response to continuous feedback (Rouse, 2005) There are
requirements in order to implement TQM successfully. When an organization decides to implement TQM, top management needs to provide their total
commitment. The person in the top management position would not only have to commit resources, but also a substantial amount of his or her own
time. If others do not see the top leaders putting in the effort, they will think that it is not a priority. In their dedication to TQM their actions speak
louder than words. It is important for the top management to lead and support the other employees. When TQM is implemented corporate culture
change is needed, and people will resist the change. This makes it difficult, because people don't like change. It has been proven that implementing

Business Guide Or Safe Methods Of Business
People are said to be products of their time and therefore different works of literature can represent the views of the society by which they are
derived. These works also demonstrate what ideals were most highly valued by a society. The 'self–help' guide titled The Business Guide; or Safe
Methods of Business by J.E. Hansford, published in 1892, is a definite example of this rule. The book contains several short articles and listicles
which give advice for how successful business should be performed as well as promoting what it meant, per Hansford, what it meant to be a good
businessman. The book lists various attitudes, behaviors and, practices which were highly valued at the time mainly by the present literate

Savage/barbarian being a commonly used slur to reference racial and sometimes religious minorities in Canada at the time. Hansford promotes
politeness by means of being cheerful, respecting differences of opinion and, sincerity and although there is truth to the matter of being polite to
customers, business partners, and employees to better business dealings, the reference to "savages" is a dehumanizing and racist term and was used to
subtly promote the ideals of the literate middle class as a European dominant society. Therefore, Hansford's Business Guide promotes the idea of
successful business persons as following the ideals of the middle class of Victorian Era Canada by which a successful business person, must be of a
middle class European descent.
Throughout the Business Guide, Hansford also promotes ideals pertaining to religion in order to succeed in business. Hansford explicitly states
that to succeed in business one must "love your god and fellow men" as well as that "an honest man is the noblest work of god" all of which are
brought forward in parts pertaining to proper behaviors of a man to be successful in business. This is reflective of a homogeneous Eurocentric
audience, promoting god and religion as a crucial position in both business life and society as a whole; god is seen as one of the most important parts
of everyday life. One of the quotes from the section of "Good Advice

The business of slavery in the early United States was a mixture of creativity and violence. At some point in history, slavery has invaded nearly
every part of the world. Slavery has ancient roots in history and still exists today in many different ways. Some people may know slavery as
African Americans working for whites back in the day but others may not even know what slavery really is. Slavery is a civil relationship where
one person has absolute power of the life of another person. The business of slavery included the production of standardized printed forms for the
slave trader 's use. "Modern Slavery is huge business. A recent ILO study estimated that modern slavery generates annual profits of over US$ 150
billion, which is as much as the combined profits of the four most profitable companies in the world," (50forFreedom). Although slavery is no longer
legal anywhere in the world, human trafficking remains an international problem and an estimated 25–40 million people are living in illegal slavery

Slavery created huge profits not only for Southern planters and slave traders, but also for Northern cotton–mill owners and investors. After doing some

Business Accounting Methods : Cash Vs. Accrual Essay
Using the wrong accounting method
There are two main business accounting methods: cash vs accrual.
Cash accounting is the much simpler method and the method that most small start–up businesses will use because it is based on the actual flow of
your cash in and out of the business. Cash basis accounting does a good job of tracking cash flow, but it does a poor job of matching revenues earned
with money laid out for expenses. This deficiency is a problem, particularly when, as it often happens, a company buys the inventory in one month and
sells that inventory in the next month.
Accrual accounting simply means that it just disregards the actual exchange of cash and records income and expenses as they occur. Accrual
accounting is the method to use if there will be any form of accounts receivable or accounts payable.
If you are using the wrong accounting method for your business it is likely to cause big problems with your accounting, profits and yes, even those
dreaded taxes.
Example of cash vs accrual:
A customer comes into your repair shop and needs front and back brakes and rotors. Under the cash method, you do the repairs and the customer
hands you a credit card (or check or even a stack of cash). You record it into your point of sale system and the money is recorded as revenue. But if the
customer has an account with your business and doesn't hand you the money until the beginning of the next month the transaction will not be recorded
as revenue until

New Business And Production Methods
New business and production methods along with progressive business philosophies allowed manufacturers to boost turnover and to make large
profits which they plowed back into new factories and wage rises. Department store and service station chains used massive buying power and
operating efficiencies to lower prices while increasing service and choice, helping wages to go further. Henry Ford used his huge buying power to
setup discount grocery stores selling cheap groceries for his employees, much to the annoyance of local store owners.
Increased incomes, along with the introduction of credit funded a huge increase in consumer spending. Only some of the increased affluence found its
way into insurance as a provision for retirement.
There was an economic recession in 1921 but it was allowed to run its course without political interference and as a result it was over in 18 months. As
the economy picked up, easy credit and speculation created stock market and property bubbles that had devastating effects when they eventually ended.
People living in the cities and areas of industry benefited most from the increased prosperity although there were arguments to the contrary. Those
living in rural areas did not benefit to the same extent, and this was made worse by widespread drought. This encouraged population movement from
rural areas to cities, a trend which has continued down to the present day. In 1926 alone the Department of Agriculture calculated that the nett

of knowledge. From this definition, it is easy to understand why many pieces of academic research can lead into further business research
. For this reason, the space between these dichotomies is not always a clear one. There can often be a grey area found between. An example of when
research could fall into the grey area could be if a business were to conduct continuous research. Companies often use continuous research on a
market, that has been developed specifically to better understand and to overcome market problems as they occur. Now is this academic research? As
it is being peformed with no clear objective in mind. Or is it business research? As it is used to answer the companies questions specifically, when they
arise. In this circumstance it is often the researchers responsibility to tailor and arrange their findings to coordinate with their needs. It is in this instant

Business Income, Deductions, and Accounting Methods
SOLUTION MANUAL
Discussion Questions
1.[LO 1] What is an "ordinary and necessary" business expenditure? "Ordinary" and "necessary" imply that an expense must be customary and helpful,
respectively. Because these terms are subjective, the tests are ambiguous. However, ordinary is interpreted by the courts as including expenses which
may be unusual for a specific taxpayer (but not for that type of business) and necessary is not interpreted as only essential expenses. These limits can be
contrasted with the reasonable limit on amounts and the bona fide requirement for profit motivation.
2.[LO 1] Is cost of goods sold deductible as a business expense for a business ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this prohibition were repealed, then taxpayers would have an incentive to borrow to invest in municipal bonds or borrow to invest in employee life
insurance. This former practice would lead to higher demand for municipal bonds (less yield) and less revenue for the government. The latter practice
would lead to higher demand for insurance (higher premiums?) and less revenue for the government. Both practices could lead to a perception of
inequity between those taxpayers able to utilize the tax arbitrage to reduce taxes and those who could not use the practice.
7.[LO 2] {Research} Jerry is a self–employed rock star and this year he expended $1,000 on special "flashy" clothes and outfits. Jerry would like to
deduct the cost of these clothes as work–related because the clothes are not acceptable to Jerry's sense of fashion. Under what circumstances can
Jerry deduct the cost of these work clothes? Taxpayers may deduct the cost of uniforms or special clothing they use in their business when the
clothing is not appropriate to wear as ordinary clothing outside the place of business. In Jerry's case, the flashy rock outfits could be analogous to
special uniforms or protective garments and could be deductible. See D. Techner,
TC Memo 1997–498. Erhard Seminar Training, TC Memo 1986–526 provides an example of clothes that were not deductible because they were
appropriate for normal wear.

  • 1. Strategic Alignment Is A Method For Understanding The... Strategic alignment is a method for understanding the nature of a business through the association of business processes and strategies (Morrison, Ghose, Dam, Hinge & Hoesch–Klohe, 2011). The use of strategic alignment allows an organization to contemplate its long life and to find how achievable its visions for the future are (Morrison et al., 2011). On the other hand, 'best practice' demonstrates an established set of human resource practices that can be utilized within any circumstance to achieve competitive advantage and a win–win situation for all parties. • 2. Business Management: Methods to Develop and Enhance... Q1: Part I– Methods by Which I will Develop and Enhance my Communications Skills My organization communication philosophy is holistic; as such, I do not believe that communication skills and abilities are an isolated skill set. I believe they are fully integrated into the daily tasks required of all employees at every level of the organization. Thus, I will develop and enhance my communication skills by firstly identifying my weaknesses, compiling work situations where communication missteps can be costly, compiling work situations where communication channels operate as they ought to, and finally I will identify various ways to develop and exercise new and existing communication abilities. Communication Weaknesses Whether I attribute it to my cultural upbringing or simply my personality, one of my chief communication weaknesses, is an inability to separate emotion from leadership decisions. I often take the incompetence of colleagues to be a personal affront and respond as if I were disrespected rather respond to conflict situations with certain objectivity. This often means that when a conflict arises in the work context I am ruled my emotions rather than by cognitive functions. This poses a serious problem, because I am far less likely to be effective in identifying a solution when a problem arises. This weakness of reacting personally is compounded by a tendency to avoid stating and addressing conflict as it emerges. I often wait and avoid conflict until the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Study : Business Research Methods BMO6630 – Business Research Methods Assessment 1: Structured Abstract This structured abstract will review the topic of 'leadership' through the research of, Fiedler, Ahn and Ettner, Muchiri et al and Vimba et al. 1.Brief summary of the theory and progression in the field (i.e., how has the theory developed since first proposed?) Fielder's research, which occurred in 1964, proposes that the most important aspect of successful leadership is the relationship between the leader and his or her subordinates and that this aspect creates the conditions for success. Fiedler also proposes a second important dimension, task structure, which, within the context of the relationship between the leader and his or her subordinates, also impacts leadership success. Fiedler recognises there are numerous variables within the above hypothesis, such as, task specificity or task ambiguity, power of the leader, acceptance of the leader by his or her team, permissive leadership style or controlling leadership style. Fiedler categorises and presents these variables in an eight–cubed model as a means of showing the way in which different combinations of these variables may or may not determine successful leadership. The author posits that the way in which these variables interact determines the conditions in which the leader is successful, or otherwise. In the time since Fiedler's research the subject of leadership has received significant and ongoing attention. Among numerous authors on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Question Five "Dewey defeats Truman" was the headline of the Chicago Tribune that was inaccurately published in 1948 declaring the victory of Governor Dewey, the Republican candidate over Harry Truman, the Democratic incumbent. In essence, the headline was guided by Gallup's quota sampling, which had accurately predicted previous presidential elections results in 1936, 1940, and 1944. According to Erikson and Tedin (2017), the mentioned pollster projected that the Republican presidential candidate would defeat the incumbent. Moreover, the opinion–poll firm was so confident of Dewey's victory that it stopped polling during the last few weeks of the campaign. Similarly, nearly all political observers regarded the outcome as certain. However, contrary to expectations, the incumbent defeated Dewey narrowly by 49.5% of the popular vote against the latter's 45% (Waller, 2017). • 18. Market Research Methods For Business Market research methods in business Primary research is data that is gathered first hand from an original source, and has not been collected before. It often involves going out and asking people for information, hence its alternative name field research. Observational research involves watching and observing people's activities. For example, businesses use cookies on their websites in order to track what pages users are visiting on their website. By using cookies, businesses will be able to know what pages are most popular among users on their website. Information collected through cookies can also help businesses improve marketing and their website. Experimental research is when an investigation or test is conducted in order to discover new opportunities which can help to maximise revenues for a business. This could be done by aiming their product at a different demographic e.g. elderly people and modifying (or experimenting with) their product to make it more appealing to that demographic. Surveys involve asking people questions in order to collect information about what people think about something. This can be done face to face, by telephone, by post and online too. E–marketing research involves using the internet to contact and interact with consumers about a businesses' product(s). Examples of e–marketing include online surveys and cookies (as mentioned before). A focus group is a research method in which a small group of people are asked to give their opinions and ... • 19. The Last Seven Weeks Of Business Research Methods The last seven weeks in Business Research methods have been a very rewarding experience. This class has taught me new things about proper research and refreshed past information I have learned in other research classes. Throughout this class, we have covered topics spanning every aspect of the research process. We started with oral and written presentation of research findings. Next moving to types of research studies, including qualitative, quantitative, observation, experiments, and surveys. Finally, we covered topics such as creation of a questionnaire and how to utilize data in the final two weeks of the course. There was one specific thing that was a new experience for me, the exploration of qualitative research. Most of my research background in the course of my undergraduate studies involved quantitative research and creation of surveys. It great to be able to explore qualitative methods such as focus groups and interviews and to understand how they can properly supplement or even replace these more statistical based research methods (Cooper & Schindler, 2014). The one topic we discussed in the class that I had previously learned through but needed to have my knowledge reinforced on, was creation of a questionnaire. This class has reminded me of how important the process of actually creating a survey is. A questionnaire's design can affect the results of a study in a major way unless researchers design their instruments in a manner to reduce the occurrence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The instruments used in the study should be discussed, what types of instruments, the scales and subscales, how the scales are computed, and the reliability and validity of those scales. There should also be reference to the researchers that designed the scales that were used in the study. The procedure, explaining how the instruments should be used, should be discussed in detail where the reader understands every step of the process. • 26. Lean Management Is A Method Of Running A Business According to (Rouse, 2013), lean management is a method of running a business that supports the concept of constant improvement. Therefore, lean management is a long–term approach to work that thoroughly seeks to achieve small, incremental changes in processes in order to improve efficiency and quality. The theory was first established between 1948 and 1975 by Taiichi Ohno and Shigeo Shingo the two Japanese engineers (Arnheiter and Maleyeff, 2005). But the method was initially found in the works of Henry Ford, who "Ohno greatly appreciated and studied Ford because of his accomplishments and the reduction of waste at early Ford assembly plants" (Arnheiter and Maleyeff, 2005). Thus Lean management eliminates all forms of waste, decreasing errors, shrinking inventory and ordering or supplying parts "just–in–time," therefore decreasing warehousing costs. (Rand, 2013) identified the seven forms of waste, including waste in unnecessary motion, over–processing and transportation. Thus by doing this it will saves the business money and allows workers to pay attention to more value–creating activities. There are four main principles of lean which are (Rouse, 2013) firstly defining the value from the perspective of the end customer, identifying each steps in a business process and eliminating non value activities, making the value–creating steps occur in tight sequence and then finally repeating the first three steps on a constantly basis until all the waste has been eliminated. This model is based on the multiple relations between each variable and how they impact the individual and the organization. It should be looked as whole, not just on each component separately. As it was organized, Organizational impact was the most important aspect, since that is where the real success or not lays down. A great system with great user satisfaction, for example, is great, but without real and perceivable results, it cannot be considered a success. However, there were critics of the model, like Seddon (1997), by Palmius (2007), who argues that the model contains both procedures and variance variables which could make results confusing to describe, evaluate, and comprehend. Pitt et al. (1995), by Palmius (2007) reasoned for the relationships between user and IT department, indicating some type of service component should be added to the model. Myers et al. (1997), by Palmius (2007) explored to other possible impacts that IS and IT may have other than the individuals and in the organization, like the industry or society. The financial data was extracted from the Annual and Financial Reports of Target Corporation, a publicly traded company. I performed several statistical tests with finding that support my hypothesis. I find that advertising cost does positively affect sales. Introduction Advertising attracts and informs current and potential customers about a product or service. Advertising usually increases a company's sales volume which creates higher profits over time. Yearly financial data was obtained from Target Corporation's from 2001 to 2015. The annual sales revenues and advertising costs were extracted from the data. The hypothesis is that advertising has a positive effect on sales. • 38. 2 Methods of Business Analysis The first tool that can be used is the SWOT analysis. This is a tool that helps a company define and look at their Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats on mostly an internal level. A company uses this tool to dissect the areas that they exceed in and the areas of improvement, the areas of opportunity they can take advantage of and where other companies can pose a threat to their business. This is a powerful tool that can, with a little thought, help a company uncover opportunities that are well placed for exploitation by the organization (Manktelow & Carlson, n.d.). This tool also helps a company understand its weaknesses and in turn manage and eliminate threats that could catch the organization unaware. The following are... When looking at the scenario from this perspective it turns the decision into a definite financial situation on whether to make the changes. Another item that needs to be taken into consideration is if the new technology is proven and potential for failure and flexibility. If the new technology fails then a company has to revert back to old method of production at an increased expense. Process flexibility results from being able to build different products from the same production line with minor adjustments (Priniciples, n.d.). Among those tools available for businesses to use is Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA), and Total Quality Management (TQM). Plan – do – check – act, (PDCA) is a four–step problem solving iterative technique used to improve business processes. Shewhart introduced the concept in 1930. However it was Deming who came to represent the PDCA wheel (PDCA, n.d.). PDCA was developed as an analysis and measurement tool in order to identify deviation form customer demand. Also the PDCA cycle is limited and it applies more to improvement of individual processes than to a broader organizational change. It does not consider operational strategic objectives. These are just a few downsides with the PDCA cycle (Change management consultant, n.d.) Total Quality Management (TQM), is a management system that involves all organization functions, which focuses on meeting customers' needs and organizational objectives which involve all employees continual improvement, and that seeks to improve the quality of products and services through ongoing refinements in response to continuous feedback (Rouse, 2005) There are requirements in order to implement TQM successfully. When an organization decides to implement TQM, top management needs to provide their total commitment. The person in the top management position would not only have to commit resources, but also a substantial amount of his or her own time. If others do not see the top leaders putting in the effort, they will think that it is not a priority. In their dedication to TQM their actions speak louder than words. It is important for the top management to lead and support the other employees. When TQM is implemented corporate culture change is needed, and people will resist the change. This makes it difficult, because people don't like change. It has been proven that implementing change is difficult to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Business Guide Or Safe Methods Of Business People are said to be products of their time and therefore different works of literature can represent the views of the society by which they are derived. These works also demonstrate what ideals were most highly valued by a society. The 'self–help' guide titled The Business Guide; or Safe Methods of Business by J.E. Hansford, published in 1892, is a definite example of this rule. The book contains several short articles and listicles which give advice for how successful business should be performed as well as promoting what it meant, per Hansford, what it meant to be a good businessman. The book lists various attitudes, behaviors and, practices which were highly valued at the time mainly by the present literate middle–class population. By... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Savage/barbarian being a commonly used slur to reference racial and sometimes religious minorities in Canada at the time. Hansford promotes politeness by means of being cheerful, respecting differences of opinion and, sincerity and although there is truth to the matter of being polite to customers, business partners, and employees to better business dealings, the reference to "savages" is a dehumanizing and racist term and was used to subtly promote the ideals of the literate middle class as a European dominant society. Therefore, Hansford's Business Guide promotes the idea of successful business persons as following the ideals of the middle class of Victorian Era Canada by which a successful business person, must be of a middle class European descent. Throughout the Business Guide, Hansford also promotes ideals pertaining to religion in order to succeed in business. Hansford explicitly states that to succeed in business one must "love your god and fellow men" as well as that "an honest man is the noblest work of god" all of which are brought forward in parts pertaining to proper behaviors of a man to be successful in business. This is reflective of a homogeneous Eurocentric audience, promoting god and religion as a crucial position in both business life and society as a whole; god is seen as one of the most important parts of everyday life. One business that had a great amount of unethical practices between the investors and the workers was slavery in America. There are many reasons why slavery raised so many red flags in the business world and they include the type of labor the slaves had to endure, the type of punishment that the slave owners did to their slaves, racial discrimination, and verbal slander that slaves had to endure daily. The business of slavery in the early United States was a mixture of creativity and violence. At some point in history, slavery has invaded nearly every part of the world. Slavery has ancient roots in history and still exists today in many different ways. Some people may know slavery as African Americans working for whites back in the day but others may not even know what slavery really is. Slavery is a civil relationship where one person has absolute power of the life of another person. The business of slavery included the production of standardized printed forms for the slave trader 's use. "Modern Slavery is huge business. A recent ILO study estimated that modern slavery generates annual profits of over US$ 150 billion, which is as much as the combined profits of the four most profitable companies in the world," (50forFreedom). Although slavery is no longer legal anywhere in the world, human trafficking remains an international problem and an estimated 25–40 million people are living in illegal slavery today. Slavery created huge profits not only for Southern planters and slave traders, but also for Northern cotton–mill owners and investors. • 42. Business Accounting Methods : Cash Vs. Accrual Essay Using the wrong accounting method There are two main business accounting methods: cash vs accrual. Cash accounting is the much simpler method and the method that most small start–up businesses will use because it is based on the actual flow of your cash in and out of the business. Cash basis accounting does a good job of tracking cash flow, but it does a poor job of matching revenues earned with money laid out for expenses. This deficiency is a problem, particularly when, as it often happens, a company buys the inventory in one month and sells that inventory in the next month. Accrual accounting simply means that it just disregards the actual exchange of cash and records income and expenses as they occur. Accrual accounting is the method to use if there will be any form of accounts receivable or accounts payable. If you are using the wrong accounting method for your business it is likely to cause big problems with your accounting, profits and yes, even those dreaded taxes. Example of cash vs accrual: A customer comes into your repair shop and needs front and back brakes and rotors. Under the cash method, you do the repairs and the customer hands you a credit card (or check or even a stack of cash). You record it into your point of sale system and the money is recorded as revenue. But if the customer has an account with your business and doesn't hand you the money until the beginning of the next month the transaction will not be recorded as revenue until ... • 43. New Business And Production Methods New business and production methods along with progressive business philosophies allowed manufacturers to boost turnover and to make large profits which they plowed back into new factories and wage rises. Department store and service station chains used massive buying power and operating efficiencies to lower prices while increasing service and choice, helping wages to go further. Henry Ford used his huge buying power to setup discount grocery stores selling cheap groceries for his employees, much to the annoyance of local store owners. Increased incomes, along with the introduction of credit funded a huge increase in consumer spending. Only some of the increased affluence found its way into insurance as a provision for retirement. There was an economic recession in 1921 but it was allowed to run its course without political interference and as a result it was over in 18 months. As the economy picked up, easy credit and speculation created stock market and property bubbles that had devastating effects when they eventually ended. People living in the cities and areas of industry benefited most from the increased prosperity although there were arguments to the contrary. Those living in rural areas did not benefit to the same extent, and this was made worse by widespread drought. This encouraged population movement from rural areas to cities, a trend which has continued down to the present day. In 1926 alone the Department of Agriculture calculated that the nett ... It can often be assumed to be a less detailed form of research than business research, but this is not the case, its is simply less answer driven. And can often finish with no clear answer to the question. In this form of research, you are much more likely to find hypothesis waiting to be tested, rather than theories believed to be true/false. Simply put, business research is used to answer a question, academic research is used to acquire a body of knowledge. From this definition, it is easy to understand why many pieces of academic research can lead into further business research . For this reason, the space between these dichotomies is not always a clear one. There can often be a grey area found between. An example of when research could fall into the grey area could be if a business were to conduct continuous research. Companies often use continuous research on a market, that has been developed specifically to better understand and to overcome market problems as they occur. Now is this academic research? As it is being peformed with no clear objective in mind. Or is it business research? As it is used to answer the companies questions specifically, when they arise. "Ordinary" and "necessary" imply that an expense must be customary and helpful, respectively. Because these terms are subjective, the tests are ambiguous. However, ordinary is interpreted by the courts as including expenses which may be unusual for a specific taxpayer (but not for that type of business) and necessary is not interpreted as only essential expenses. These limits can be contrasted with the reasonable limit on amounts and the bona fide requirement for profit motivation. 2.[LO 1] Is cost of goods sold deductible as a business expense for a business ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If this prohibition were repealed, then taxpayers would have an incentive to borrow to invest in municipal bonds or borrow to invest in employee life insurance. This former practice would lead to higher demand for municipal bonds (less yield) and less revenue for the government. The latter practice would lead to higher demand for insurance (higher premiums?) and less revenue for the government. Both practices could lead to a perception of inequity between those taxpayers able to utilize the tax arbitrage to reduce taxes and those who could not use the practice. 7.[LO 2] {Research} Jerry is a self–employed rock star and this year he expended $1,000 on special "flashy" clothes and outfits. Jerry would like to deduct the cost of these clothes as work–related because the clothes are not acceptable to Jerry's sense of fashion. Under what circumstances can Jerry deduct the cost of these work clothes? Taxpayers may deduct the cost of uniforms or special clothing they use in their business when the clothing is not appropriate to wear as ordinary clothing outside the place of business. In Jerry's case, the flashy rock outfits could be analogous to special uniforms or protective garments and could be deductible. See D. Techner, TC Memo 1997–498.
