Residents Working 24-Hour Analysis
Residents should not work 24–hour shifts because it makes operations dangerous. This danger that
can happen in a operation can end up harming the patient or the resident. As, Ladouceur describes in
the article "...Dr Marie–Renee B Lajoie, a practicing family physician, argues against them." The
author describes that in the debate there is a lot debating over residents working 24–hour shifts. As
B– Lajoie pointed out about the problem of residents working 24–hour shifts on page 1 is that
"...residents make 36% more serious medical mistakes..." This statistic/quote shows that residents
working 24–hour shifts have a higher chance of making a medical mistake. This is caused by the
residents being sleep–deprived. The sleep deprivation Argument 2:

CONFLICT BETWEEN EMPLOYEES OVER MISBEHAVIOUR
CONFLICT BETWEEN EMPLOYEES OVER MISBEHAVIOUR INTRODUCTION: In general
conflict resolution is mostly concentrated on the conflicts that have occurred in the public. In this

analyses the situation using organizational behaviour concepts and gives an alternatives to avoid this
kind of situations in future and my learning's. Time period: August 2013 BACKGROUND: Paul and

As per our HR, policy, he should take that person to a room and could have given the feedback. So, I
found this disturbing and I have raised (Voiced) the complained to Associate H.R (Ms Ramani

confidential. I explained her the whole situation and also informed her the way Paul behaved at that
precise moment was uncalled for. Ms Ramani took my feedback and promised me that appropriate
action would be taken. After a day Paul walked up to me and asked why did I put in the complaint
against him. I was shocked to hear that he knew my name and he told me that Mrs Ramani has gave
my name. Then he started abusing me for doing so in front of everyone on the floor. Due to this
situation I have distanced myself from Paul and also noticed that other members on the floor
distanced themselves from me as they though that going to HR was not appropriate. Here Ramani
has not maintained the fairness and personally biased towards Paul as they were colleague before
Ramani moving to HR department. Next day again Paul started misbehaving with me with abusive
words. I was fuming by this time and I sent an email to the H.R head (Mrs Vidya Kumari)
describing the whole situation and the Ms Ramani has dealt with the issues that was not fair

Case Study On Maintenance Managers
Monday was my first day on the sales side of the company. That morning me and Dave had a
lengthy conversation/review of good calling practices and the mentality that I should have when
calling potential clients. Dave decided to start me off easy with calling Maintenance Managers.
Then the majority of Monday morning was taken up with drafting and editing an appropriate script
that I would be comfortable with. At the end of Monday morning I started calling and on my fourth
call ever I got a promising lead with Chiquita that I sent follow up information to at the end of the
day. Monday afternoon was filled with calling Maintenance Managers and following up with the
three positive hits that I got from calling. Calling Maintenance ... Show more content on

After all the interviews were done we sat in a meeting with all the hiring managers as they swapped
information about the various candidates. Overall the mini conference was a remarkable success.
They are sending job offers out to 8 out of the 10 candidates and bringing one back on site for a
follow up interview. I had a dentist appointment at 4, so I had to run to that after getting back from
the mini conference. Friday morning, I used the skills that Andy taught me to do my own research
and find new companies. Late Monday morning and after Lunch I worked on making call plans for
myself. In the afternoon, I called through most of my plan and am now wring this report. One of the
first things I learned this week is the importance of listening when talking to clients. If you talk to
them like you are a robot and don't have any personality, or worse, not be adaptive to what they are
saying then they are not going to give you the time of day. Another important thing I learned is the
LACE acronym. Dave taught me this when dealing with people who want to send you to HR. You
listen to what they are saying, acknowledge what they are saying, clarify what they said (can be
optional), and then explain yourself and what you are trying to do. I have implemented this strategy
in real calls and it truly works and has kept me from being blown off to HR. This

Is the 40 Hour Work Week Working?
Do you always feel like you are rushed for time? Working your whole day away and never having
time to yourself? Do you wish you could set your own schedule each week? Well, the time has come
where many companies human resources departments have changed their ways of thinking about the
40 hour work week. Many human resource departments have now began giving their employees a
more flexible work schedule as long as their work is being completed.
According to the Business Dictionary, "A workplace management and organizational technique
optimizes human resources through flexibility based on segmenting the employees into peripheral
and core groups. The core group of employees are difficult to replace because they have a specific
skill set or experience, while the peripheral group consists of employees who could easily be
replaced or are only needed in the organization for either peak periods or on specific tasks.
Originally suggested in 1986 by Atkinson, and Meager's of the Institute of Manpower Studies." is
what people in the human resource field call the flexible firm model.
In Atkinson and Meager's model of flexible firm, there are 5 different types of industrial flexibility
that a company and the human resources department focus on when deciding to choose if they want
to allow their employees a flexible schedule or keep them working their normal 8 hour

The Effects Of Social Media On Working Hours At Emergency...
Abstract
The paper examines the use of social media during working hours at Emergency Health Service
(EHS) by the staff. Social media is a real addiction these days where everyone is so involved. The
use of social media during working hours can sometimes be so deadly and the consequences of this
irresponsible behavior can be so severe in emergency health care. The medical staff should be aware
of the dos and don'ts of their duty for which an awareness program and a proper check is a must.
Along with that the EHS staff should also take proper responsibility as it a matter of human lives.
The data collection is done by the observation of the Emergency Medical services physicians so as

emergency health services can have a negative impact on well–being and work performance of
employees.
Hypothesis
The use of social networks during working hours at EMS can be deadly and might put the lives of
the people at high risk.
Research Questions
1. "Is the usage of social media websites during working hours at EMS increasing sharply?"
2. "Is it professional to use social media during working hours at emergency health sector or does it
lead to irreparable harm to the patient's health?"
Literature Review
University of Bergen (UIB) demonstrates that the usage of social media for private purposes in
working hours could have a harmful consequence on work performance. This study can be
implemented in the case of emergency health care sector.
Ensor & Cooper (2004) found that with the wide spread of social networks during working hours
has become an everyday part of life, including published messages related to work in the private
offices. There are significant studies that show the negative impact of social works during working
hours at emergency health services.

Analysis Of Virginia Woolf 's ' Woolf '
When it comes to reading infamous modernist novels and short stories, Virginia Woolf is the way to
go. Woolf was famous for a few of her famous novels, many short stories, and her feminist views
that were not as normalized as it is today. Because of her work and who she was as a person, Woolf's
work left a mark on the literary world in the twentieth century. Woolf's work is presented in many
different ways because of the many ways that she formed her thoughts onto paper. Woolf has her
way with different words and styles, which is why she is significant to our literacy world today.

Woolf's mother died in 1895, which would have made Woolf thirteen, and triggered her first of
many mental breakdowns. Woolf's father died in 1904. However, Woolf had a strained relationship
with her father so it was as upsetting as living through her mother's death. (Lovelady) Due to these
morbid events Woolf suffered from severe depression, mental breakdowns, possible bipolar disorder,
and was suicidal. Woolf's mental health issues would carry on into her adulthood and would
somewhat affect her writing. Woolf's characters in her novels/essays and how they act tie into her
own mental health issues. (Virginia Woolf Biography) Woolf started off her career as a journalist
and started writing professionally in 1900, making her eighteen years old. Woolf began writing for
The Times Literary Supplement in 1905, but ended up becoming the famous novelist the world
knows of today. Woolf moved to the city where she could get more inspiration and started writing.
Woolf came out with her first novel The Voyage Out in 1915, and then her career took off from
there. (Virginia Woolf Biography) At thirty years old, Woolf married Leonard Sidney Woolf. Woolf
and her husband then started a publishing company together called the Hogarth Press. Not only was
Woolf famous for her own writing, but her publishing company as well. During the prime of Woolf's
career, the world was at the peak of chaos. World War I had recently ended when most of Woolf's

Working In 6 Hours Analysis
While I've worked at the hospital we decided to try changing our shifts to to accomidate staff who
wanted to attend school, we discovered that we had to hire more staff to cover departments while
employees left early. It took so much time to hire and train, that the team wasn't able to get work
load completed. We also decided that in the 6 hour shifts we were all running around trying to get
the work done that there was so much confusion, trying to pick up where staff left off. 6 hours just
isn't enough time to complete assigned tasks. I think that working 8 hour shifts is just about perfect.
it's enough time to get the work done, but not so long that everyone get tired and sluggish before end

Working Long Hours And Its Effect On Family Life
Working long hours have become a tradition in modern society. Although it was postulated from the
past that today's society would have too much free time, this has turned out to be a sharp
contradiction. In this paper, an examination of working long hours are examined with respect to how
this habit became a norm, how it is propagated, and its effect on family life. Working long hours is a
result of scarcity of resources in society. Long working hours is now a norm for society. This custom
became established in the late 20th century. A good part of the 20th century was spent thinking
about how the future would be full of leisure times for all the people. At the downing of 1900, there
were widespread perception that the future was going to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First and foremost is about wages. Living standards have risen steadily and wages seem to be
always failing to keep up. For instance, college tuition has been increasing exponentially. It has been
shown that between 1978 and 2012, tuition fees for colleges increased by 1,120 percent. Basic
services such as child care are also quite expensive and in some states more costly than public
colleges. Further, healthcare premiums increased by almost 100 percent between 2002 and 2012. All
these increases are not being countered by an increase in wages. In the contrary, wages continue to
fall. For instance, in 975 wages made up half of the GDP, but this fell to 43.5 percent in 2012. To
compensate for the low wages and meet financial obligations, people find themselves working long
hours to accumulate enough resources to cater for their needs. Secondly, the society has grown more
materialistic. It has been reported that up to 1.2 trillion, 11.2 percent of consumer spending, is
consumed on unnecessary products. Even for the products which may be necessary, the more costly
ones seem to be preferred over the less costly. For instance, people will tend to buy bigger cars
despite the fact that even small cars may serve them well. Being materialistic may help one to live
comfortably. Further, gathering more wealth is also seen as a signal of success in the society.
Therefore, one needs to work for long hours in order to meet the materialistic expectation of the
society. Thirdly,

Summary Of Virginia Woolf
Bibliography
Guiguet, Jean. Virginia Woolf and Her Works. Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1976. Thoroughly
examining a handful of Woolf's critics and works, Guiguet offers extensive character and whole
novel analysis proposing her view of the works. Guiguet harmonizes her analysis with her
predecessors by building off their work and recognizing their skill and limitations in reviewing
Woolf's work boosting her credibility and strengthening her viewpoint. This presents a unique
perspective and allows Guiguet to present Woolf's work with Woolf's idea's taken from her diaries,
different critics view points and build her own ideas on the works as well. The table of contents
separates the book by the work that is being analyzed and provides a simple way of collecting
desired information from the text. The book can effortlessly be employed in scholarly essays to
boost opinions and personal viewpoints strengthening the essays thesis, particularly if arguing the
point of Woolf's life being entwined into her works.
Marder, Herbert. The Measure of Life: Virginia Woolf's Last Years. Cornell University Press, 2000.
Marder furnishes a remarkable outlook on Woolf and how her life was intimately tied with her
works and influences, going so far as to provide images of Woof's family and discussing how the
image paralleled Woolf's characters. This biography delves into Woolf's life without restraint and
undresses Woolf's motives, thoughts, opinions, and life, whether about suicide, politics, insecurities,
or relations with other people. Probing into the lives of the people surrounding Woolf, this book
presents information on important personal influences in Woolf's life. Marder connects historical
events with Woolf's life and works analyzing her life with a new vigor and perspective offering
interesting insight on the influences in Woolf's life.
The text has the potential of being utilized to support a variety of arguments and perspectives on
Woolf's works, though more specifically, the text supports a thesis connecting Woolf's work and her
characters to her life and opinions.

Working Long Hours Is More Complicated Than What People...
Working Long Hours Is More Complicated Than What People Believe In the article, "You Really
Don't Need To Work So Much", author Tim Wu believes that part of the American character is to
prefer work to leisure time; therefore he provides an enlightening solution through which white–
collar workers can confront this damaging work system. According to Wu, the majority of American
professionals like taking pride about the job they have, want to seem important in the eyes of society
and worry about the income they make; therefore, they usually prolong their work hours and forget
about their spare time. However, Wu suggests a possible solution to this problem, by advising
workers to "return to the goal of efficiency in work–fulfilling whatever ... Show more content on

Nonetheless, she is motivated by her own inherited need, to fulfill her career as a journalist, which
makes her work hard and long hours with the objective of succeeding at challenging tasks.
Moreover, the article "Inside Amazon: Wrestling Big Ideas in a Bruising Workplace" portrays the
concept that Amazon's ruling principle is to focus on its own interest by pushing every employee to
his/her limit without any considerations. Therefore, Wu's recommendation is definitely unrealistic
because white–collar professionals must work long hours to comply with unnecessary work, meet
their collections of needs, and conform to the company's demands and interests. Wu's solution to cut
down long work hours, by focusing on what needs to be done and leaving the choice of doing more
for to those who really like it, is very unrealistic because even if workers want to leave early, they
get trapped with unneeded work they have created. One example that Wu gives is the situation of the
litigation system, in which "lawyers subject each other to torturous amounts of labor just because
they can" (87). Due to the fact that there are no limits of "technology and a kind of professionalism,"
workers charge themselves with work that has "nothing to do with real social or economic needs."
This illustrates the idea that employees need to create work so they could be crazy

The Central Value Connecting Mrs. Dalloway And The Hours
The central value connecting Mrs Dalloway and The Hours is an affirmation of life. Although
suicides feature in both Stephen Daldry's film and Virginia Woolf's novel both texts echo Woolf's
words from her 1922 diary: 'I meant to write about death, only life came breaking in as usual.' Both
Woolf's modernist 1925 novel and Daldry's 2002 postmodernist film focus on women whose rich
inner lives are juxtaposed with their outer lives constrained by the contexts in which they live. The
characters are placed in their respective context, to reflect on, or respond to, the consequences of
war and AIDS, the difficulties of personal relationships, class, gender and sexuality.
Mrs Dalloway seeks to narrate the inner life of characters in a single day, Wednesday, 13th June,
1923, while in The Hours, the action takes place within the span of a single day in three different
years, 1923, 1951 and 2001. It communicates 3 parallel narratives with the focus on three different
women, alternating between them throughout the film. In Mrs Dalloway, the chiming of both the
grand Big Ben and the gentler St Margaret's symbolise the significance of time in life, despite a
representation of time as mutable – Big Ben, 'a warning...then the hour, irrevocable', reminding
Clarissa of mortality, while St Margaret's chimes in a little late, gliding 'into the recesses of the heart
and buries itself, to be, with a tremor of delight, at rest.' Woolf seems to say a full life is one that
accepts the moment is

Virginia Woolf Death Of A Moth Analysis
Sophia Fortune CCR 092 King October 31, 2017 Summary Response of Virginia Woolf's "The
Death of the Moth, In the "Death of a Moth" by Virginia Woolf, Woolf compares the wonder of life
and death by using a moth as an example of the simplicity of life and death and that we need to
accept the inevitable of life and how death fallows, though putting up a fight is an essential part of
this whole process. Describing a mostly overlooked creature, a moth, as it exists in nature,
particularly on the September day. Woolf unable to concentrate, captivated by the moth, but yet also
distracted by the work going on in the fields and the movements of the birds in the background.
Considering the moths life "pathetic," especially as this is not a real moth because it flies during the
day. It is becoming apparent that the moth is dying and at first intending to help the creature, and
then deciding that she should not. With the moth's last efforts are dignified and admirable and his
appearance in death is significant. Death is all consuming and somehow conflicting as the moth lies
there "uncomplainingly composed." ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Argumentative Essay On Excessive Screen Time
Lately, the issue of excessive screen time is becoming increasingly important in pediatrics, and it
has become a major risk factor for many chronic conditions such as vision impairment, obesity, and
altercations to social behavior. While many parents realize that excessive screen time is harmful,
children are still spending eight to ten hours on their electronic devices. Not many parents realize
that proper regulation is also needed to keep their child safe from health risks. According to the
National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute, 28 percent of parents set TV–watching rules, 30 percent
set rules about video game use, and 36 percent of parents set rules about computer use ("Reduce
Screen Time", 2013). This is a problem because 60 percent of children are constantly stumbling
upon explicit content every year, and their behavior shifts more negatively and aggressively
(Lunsford, 510). I believe that too much screen time can pose much harm to a child's health and
well–being. If we don't find ways to limit excessive screen time than children will face many
consequences that will ultimately harm them as they grow older.
Screen time is any time spent using an electronic device such as a computer, T.V, phone, or video
game console. Many statistics have shown that an average adult spends nearly eight hours of screen
time a day while children spend eight to ten hours a day (Lunsford, 513). Comparing the two pieces
of data, children spend more time on electronics than many adults do,

The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf
The purpose of a lighthouse is to serve as a navigational aid to shores or ports and to warn boats of
dangerous areas. To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf is a novel that teaches how one person can
affect the lives of people around them by, in a sense, shining a light on the person's specific traits. In
the novel, Mrs. Ramsay is one of the main characters that unfortunately does not make it to the end
of the story, but her presence is shadowed throughout the novel where she is not there physically.
Virginia Woolf used the lighthouse as analogy for Mrs. Ramsay's existence in the first part of the
book and after her death during the third section of the book. Mrs. Ramsay's death allows the reader
to realize that she is the lighthouse that highlights and unifies her family and all the guests during
the time spent together at the Ramsay's summer home. Though Mrs. Ramsay was the conjoining
light that brought people together, Woolf decides to kill Mrs. Ramsay in part two of the novel.
During the moments of Mrs. Ramsay lighting, Woolf incorporates dark thoughts that expresses a
different side to the novel. "Bitter and black, half–way down, in the darkness, in the shaft which ran
from the sunlight to the depths, perhaps a tear formed; a tear fell..." (p.32). Woolf is reflecting on her
perception of death and how she dealt with the thoughts of killing herself. As for Woolf's own death,
she left her house leaving behind a note to Vanessa Bell, her sister, and a note to Leonard Woolf,

Working Long Hours Is Part Of Being A Nurse Essay
Overtime: Mandatory or Choice
Assess the Situation Working long hours is part of being a nurse. Each shift requires both mental
and physical stamina. But what happens when you get to end of a long shift only to find out there is
no one coming in to take your place? Unfortunately, that is sometimes the case. For example, a
charge nurse in Massachusetts was faced with working 16 hours when a member of her nursing staff
did not come in for their scheduled shift. She did not volunteer for overtime, she was going through
radiation treatment herself (Luna, 2006, p.13), but what was her alternative? Her facility did not
have another nurse that they could call in. Without someone else to come in and work, she would be
abandoning patients which would be unethical. However considering the circumstances, could she
properly care for her patients? Would staying be ethical?
Diagnose the Ethical Dilemma Nursing practices are developed around the patient and nurses work
hard to provide ethical, patient–centered care. However, sometimes a "situation arises when
attempted adherence to basic ethical principles results in two conflicting courses of action" (Taylor,
Lillis, LeMone, & Lynn, 2011, p. 97). This is called an ethical dilemma. The Massachusetts nurse
feels she cannot handle the overtime, yet she is responsible to provide care in accordance with the
Code of Ethics for Nurses and there are no set practices at her facility that can be employed help
with this situation.

Summary Of Death Of A Moth By Virginia Woolf
In ¨The Death of a Moth¨ by Virginia Woolf, Woolf writes about how she observes a moth´s death.
Throughout the essay Woolf had a complex attitude towards the moth. In order to establish her
depressing, hopeless, and desperate tone, she uses symbolism, imagery, juxtaposition, and syntax.
Virginia Woolf utilized imagery to make the reader comprehend that the moth´s battle with death
was homogeneous to her battle with her bipolar tendencies and depression. In the fourth paragraph,
¨He was trying to resume his dancing, but seemed either so stiff or so awkward.....and when he tried
to fly across it he failed,¨ Woolf illustrates the struggle of the moth. The moth makes many attempts
to fly again, but it unfortunately fails. This makes the reader

The Nurses Working Hours : General Description Of...
The Nurses Working Hours: General Description of Indonesian Regulation Introduction Health care
is one of the area of public services which need continuous services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Therefore, traditionally, shift hours work schedule is the only options over the traditional Monday
through Friday office hours to provide continuous services to the public. As generally known, there
are options of working hours in applying the shift work hours. There are some institutions use 12–
hours shift, while some others use 8–hours shift and some others have additional staff to work part–
time with shift pattern outside of these two pattern. Nowadays, the healthcare services cost increases
and becomes more expensive. To deal with it, hospitals and healthcare institutions try their best to
reduce operating cost and expenses. Nursing profession is an integral part of the healthcare system
and plays significant roles in providing healthcare services to the public. However, this profession
accounts as the biggest number staff in hospitals, and thus, is considered as one of the biggest
expenditures of hospitals budget. With this situation, nurses become target for cost reduction of the
hospitals by hiring limited number of skilled RNs and substituting them with less qualified nursing
personnel (Stone, Tourangeau, Duffield, Hughes, Jones, O'Brien–Pallas, & Shamian, 2003). This
condition results in the development of overtime work hours by nurses (Stone, Tourangeau,

intention to improve the quality of life. The author believes that adoption of such policy would make
it easier for the women to remain attached to the labor force and succeed on the job, while meeting
the family obligation. Paying attention to the women's demand by reducing the working hours from

Virginia Woolf's The Death Of The Moth
Virginia Woolf, an early twentieth century English modernist, uses a combination of
symbols, imagery, and diction to demonstrate to her audience the ultimate struggle between life and
death and the inescapable inevitability of death. In The Death of the Moth,in order to give the reader
a visual of the struggle between life and death,Woolf uses the moth as a symbol representing a life
force. To the audience we see it as a deeper meaning or a different representation. Virginia Woolf
wants us to see the moth as a real human life. We compare the two because we as humans are like
the moth, we live and we die.She made sure to let us know that "He was little or nothing but life."
That one mention is enough for the audience to perceive the moths oncoming death. The second
symbol Virginia Woolf uses is the pencil. She uses the pencil to represent how someone wants to
help you, but inevitably either can not or does not. "But, as I stretched out a pencil meaning to help

signs full of life and personifying happiness. "He was trying to resume his dancing, but seemed
either so stiff or so awkward that he could only flutter to the bottom of the windowpane." Now we
see that the moth is showing signs of an older person. Slowly getting older and in the verge of
dying. "The body relaxed, and instantly grew stiff. The struggle was over." At last as we see here the
moth finally dies and and it does not have to suffer the feeling of not being able to do anything but

The Time Management Strategy For A Working Hours And Get...
Task 5A
Here I am going to discuss about the time management strategy that I am going to use to improve
my working hours and get benefited from that.
TIME MANAGEMENT
The current idea of time management – the demonstration of arranging the measure of time we
spend on which exercises – truly started with Frederick Taylor 's logical management methods. His
objective was to build laborer profitability. To do this, he led time and movement studies and started
to concentrate on the most ideal courses for employments to be performed to boost the work
finished in a given measure of time.
Advanced time management objectives are still to build efficiency; however, the most ideal way
stays tricky. Numerous scientists have investigated the subject and concoct diverse hypotheses on
viable time administration.
These are the four most effective time management concept that I will discuss:
Eliminate the Unnecessary
This turns out to be increasingly genuine consistently. Either professionally or personally, taking out
the "unnecessary" in life goes far in making me more profitable. Put just, I have to draw a firm,
particular line between the "important" and "unnecessary" in my life. The stricter I characterize
these terms, the more I will see that a great deal of things are really pointless in my life.
Plan Work
It is inportant to plan work before we get to start any. This will help me to monitor the progress and
totally focus on the work to get finish it on time. The work plan will be

Why Workers At Tewksbury Physical Therapy
Problem
Not every worker at Tewksbury Physical Therapy gets a break during their shift. There are sixteen
workers here, and only seven of those workers have scheduled lunch breaks, and another 4 are able
to take a break when they have a free minute. For the remaining workers, we are left to be
constantly working with only maybe time for a snack while we treat a patient or print our insurance
benefits. Every worker at Tewksbury Physical Therapy deserves a break because breaks help
workers be more productive and have a higher energy level, have better employee engagement, and
there are requirements by the law for Massachusetts that say workers have an opportunity for a

Taking a lunch break refuels your mind. After lunch, you can focus on your work and not your
growling stomach. If you feel guilty about taking a break, remember that they do not have to be
long. A fifteen to twenty minute break will be sufficient enough to recharge you. Studies go further
and even recommend taking a nap if it is allowed because your body is completely recharged after a
twenty minute nap. Also if you have a longer break time, it is a good idea to work out after your
meal (Cooper, 2014).
Currently at Tewksbury Physical Therapy, six out of eight of our therapists do get a lunch break.
One of them, a man named Michael, happens to get a two hour lunch block, so he always works out
after he eats unless he is tired. Then he takes a nap. Our office is able to allow him to do both
because as a physical therapy office, we have gym equipment and patient rooms with beds.
Employee Engagement
A lunch break does not have to mean eating alone, sitting in your office. In face NY Times
recommends that you do not just sit, but instead go for a walk, and actually move around (Korkki,
2012). Fast Company adds on to that thought by saying if it is nice out, eat outside to "refresh your

you should not go alone. Grab a co–worker or two and eat and walk together. This will help you get

The Theme Of Time In Michael Cunningham's 'The Hours'
Time: A Gift and a Curse
Time is the one thing that is constant in life. For some, this provides a remedy for anxiety. The idea
that time will go on, no matter the events it beholds can provide comfort. However, other people see
this clock that never ceases as a trap, containing its prisoners in a life of misery. This concept is ever
so daunting in Michael Cunningham's novel, The Hours. His three main characters, Clarissa
Vaughan, Laura Brown, and Virginia Woolf, live in three different time periods. Through the span of
twenty–four hours their stories intertwine, defying the rules of time which the characters themselves
were left to contemplate. In his novel, The Hours, Michael Cunningham's characters, Clarissa,
Laura, and Virginia demonstrate both the negative and positive connotations associated with a
progression of time through their narratives. Virginia and Laura, provide the negative connotations
of time. Virginia is restrained by the toll that time has taken on her mental health. Laura is tortured
by the plainness of her life and the idea of time prolonging agony. Lastly, Clarissa provides the
positive connotations of time. She emphasizes the importance of appreciating life. Through these
opposing viewpoints, Michael Cunningham introduces the bittersweet concepts of time.
The oldest character of the three is Virginia Woolf, a notorious author of the early twentieth century
who is known to have killed herself. Cunningham writes of Virginia's own personal thoughts

Song Analysis: The Working Hour
The piece of art I chose is is a song that I listened to a lot as a kid and still listen to today. The
melodies and instruments transcend the lyrics. However , the lyrics hold so much more. I lived on a
fire station as a kid when this song came out. Actually it was a tape in 1985. I thought because of the
association with my dad being gone on fires all the time, that this song "The Working Hour," related
to him and his need to be away working on fires all the time. As an adult, I still feel those feelings as
I did when I was 7 yrs old, however now I am the one working. I do the same job, and the working
hour means something more to me now then it did when I was a kid waiting for my father to return
from fires. This was a time when work to

Homosexuality, Suicide and Feminism in Cunningham's, The Hours
In "Man of The Hours", an interview published in People magazine, Michael Cunningham describes
The Hours as "essentially an optimistic book that deals with the terrible things that happen to
people"(105). More precisely, the book is about three women living in different eras and addresses
several issues, among them homosexuality, suicide, and feminism.
Much Cunningham's portrayal of Virginia, who is working on her famous novel "Mrs. Dalloway" as
the story opens, deals with her feelings about life in the suburbs, a life in which her husband dictates
such small details of her everyday life as bedtime, how long she will be allowed to work, and even

Ultimately, afraid of another impending breakdown and denied the stimulation of her beloved
London, she takes her own life.
Laura's self–image is that of an unpopular girl, a bookworm, and she seems amazed that her
handsome husband, "had kissed, courted, and proposed to...the bookworm...who had never been
sought after or cherished" (40). She marries him out of a sense of duty and because it is what
women do in 1949, but finds marriage and motherhood smothering. She feels inept at the simplest
chores, such as creating a birthday cake for her husband and caring for her three–year–old son, and
prefers to spend her time reading. She has a difficult time separating the fantasy of "Mrs. Dalloway,
which she is reading, and the reality of her life. She finds herself attracted to a neighbor woman and
must also deal with feelings of guilt caused by that attraction. Pregnant, desperately unhappy,
depressed, and unwilling to take her own life, she affects her escape by abandoning her husband and
children.
Clarissa Vaughan lives in present–day New York and enjoys a less restricted existence. A book
publisher in her early 50's, she is in a long–term, committed lesbian relationship, has a loving, if
complex, relationship with her daughter, and is good friends with her college friend and former
lover, Richard, a poet who is dying of AIDS and whose affectionate nickname for her is Mrs.

The A New Progressive Incidence Where So Many People...
There is a new progressive incidence where so many people working long hours. Mostly, the
definitive reason given is so that they can make ends meet in the modern society where the cost of
living has to be supplemented by an extra sacrifice to devote more into work. The expectations
seemed like guarantees: later on, working hours would be short and get–aways or vacations long.
"Our grandchildren", figured John Maynard Keynes in 1930, would work around "three hours a
day"– and likely just by decision. Economic advancement and technological advances had as of now
contracted working hours significantly by his day, and there was no motivation to trust this pattern
would not proceed (Hoschchild 104). Whizzy cars and perpetually efficient instruments and
apparatuses ensured more speed and less drudgery in all parts of life. Social clinicians started to
fuss: whatever would individuals do with all their extra time? This has not ended up being one of the
world 's most pressing issues. Everyone, all over seems to be occupied. In the corporate world, a
"perpetual time–lack issue" distresses officials everywhere throughout the globe, and the matter has
just developed more intense lately (Alexander & Baxter 254). These sentiments are particularly
significant among working people. With respect to each one of those time–saving gizmos, numerous
individuals protest that these bits of wizardry bite up decidedly a lot of their days, whether they are

Virginia Woolf's The Death Of A Moth
Even though I tend to like the gory nature of a gruesome death, I don't favor Dillard's piece over
Woolf's. I ask myself why that is? Why do I prefer Virginia Woolf's The Death of the Moth to Annie
Dillard's The Death of a Moth? The answer I conclude, is that I have biographical knowledge of one
over the other. The personal background on Woolf allows me to better understand the writer and,
thus, the possible meaning of the piece. I will read and interpret what I believe a piece is about, but I
like to find out what the author's story is. With the author's story in mind, I will reread and see what
she may have meant based on their life story. I know Woolf's story and can empathize with her, in
doing so, better understand the deeper meaning of

Working Long Hours And Its Effect On Family Life
Working long hours has become a tradition in modern society. Although it was postulated from the
past that today's society would have too much free time, this has turned out to be a sharp
contradiction. In this paper, an examination of working long hours is examined with respect to how
this habit became a norm, how it is propagated, and its effect on family life. Working long hours is a
result of scarcity of resources in society. Long working hours is now a norm for society. This custom
became established in the late 20th century. A good part of the 20th century was spent thinking
about how the future would be full of leisure times for all the people. At the down of 1900, there
were widespread perception that the future was going to be ... Show more content on

Living standards have risen steadily and wages seem to be always failing to keep up. For instance,
college tuition has been increasing exponentially. It has been shown that between 1978 and 2012,
tuition fees for colleges increased by 1,120 percent. Basic services such as child care are also quite
expensive and in some states more costly than public colleges. Further, healthcare premiums
increased by almost 100 percent between 2002 and 2012. All these increases are not being countered
by increase in wages. In the contrary, wages continue to fall. For instance, in 975 wages made up
half of the GDP but this fell to 43.5 percent in 2012. To compensate for the low wages and meet
financial obligations, people find themselves working long hours to accumulate enough resources to
cater for their needs. Secondly, the society has grown more materialistic. It has been reported that up
to 1.2 trillion, 11.2 percent of consumer spending, is consumed on unnecessary products. Even for
the products which may be necessary, the more costly ones seem to be preferred over the less costly.
For instance, people will tend to buy bigger cars despite the fact that even small cars may serve
them well. Being materialistic may help one to live comfortably. Further, gathering more wealth is
also seen as a signal of success in the society. Therefore, one needs to work for long hours in order
to meet the materialistic expectation of the society. Thirdly, jobs have

Parallels Between "Mrs Dalloway" and "The Hours"
The ongoing relationship between the literary movements of modernism and post–modernism is
encompassed by the intertextual relationships between Stephen Daldry's "The Hours" and Virginia
Woolf's "Mrs Dalloway". These relationships communicate the inadequacy of previous writings to
convey trauma, cultural crisis and the deep fragmentation within their respective societies. The
immediate context of these social dialogues creates a clear division between each text, however the
intertextual similarities between minor and major characters create an effective parallel to traverse
decades, years, months and days. This is in order to assess the lasting impacts of society on an
individual's desire to escape either physically or metaphorically. ... Show more content on

" The coffee was very slow ... until Mr Whitbread had finished ... Hugh was so very slow" the
agonising sense of immediacy both draws our attention back to clock time whilst allowing us to
delve into Clarissa's past as she recalls that Hugh is always so absurdly slow. As reality is blurred in
psychological time, external time punctuates the novel "There! Out it boomed. First a warning,
musical, then the hour, irrevocable" this reminds the reader that this story is in fact occurring in a
single day and every event experienced outside of this timeframe is a figment of a characters
memory. Woolf makes these memories the focus of the novel rather than external time to create a
mobile reality where she fabricates the sense of movement by traversing time through the
consciousness of her characters. These memories therefore are from a specific point of view and
therefore exclude some properties of the remembered moment and parts of said reality may simply
be "dissolved in the air" as the memory fades with ongoing time.
Daldry approaches Woolf's tunnelling technique with sensitivity and subtlety in order to unify
Virginia, Laura and Clarissa. The repetitive musical score by Philip Glass creates a sense of the
cyclical nature of time and is evocative of the relentlessness of time. This too creates an illusion of
both time and timelessness as the regular rhythm simulates that of a clock as

Virginia Woolf's The Death Of The Moth
Once death comes nothing can be done. This message is one of the many interpretation in the artful
essay by author Virginia Woolf, named "The Death of the Moth," and published after the author
committed suicide. In this essay Woolf illustrates how death is inevitable through the metaphor of a
moth facing death. The author begins her illustration with establishing a depressing yet peaceful and
observant tone, the use of dark and relaxed imagery, suggestive and ordinary language, formal
diction, and the use of logical narrative structure.
Woolf's tone in this essay is depressing because of the way she illustrates the helplessness the moth
experiences while dying. This tone can be noticed in "O yes, he seemed to say, death is stronger that
I am" (lines 64–65) and "But even as I did so, the unmistakable tokens of ... Show more content on

Suggestive language was used by hinting at a deeper meaning behind the moth's death considering
she was going through depression while writing the piece. Ordinary language by using phrases like,
"It was a pleasant morning, mid–September, mild" to give of that common everyday feeling. The
author used formal diction to keep the mood serious since her topic was serious. The use of logical
narrative structure was indicated in the structure of the paragraphs. Paragraph one illustrated the
setting to the readers. Paragraph two introduce the moth and its tragic fate in nature. Paragraph three
unveils the symbolism of the moth. Paragraph four illustrates the struggle of death and the
helplessness of the bystanders. Paragraph five sums up that putting up a fight did not help the
inevitable. Syntax in this essay had sentences start off long and equipped with rhythm. Sentences
became shorter when the moth began to die. There were a lot of conjunctive adverbs like:

load with 128 m3 / hr to get 0.28 hr/load. Load a truck 36 m3 / load with Shovel 480 m3 / hr to get
0.075 hr/load. Dump time by a truck in hr is given as 1.7 min or 0.028 hr. Calculations | Shovels |
Trucks | Hr / load | 0.024 | 0.28 | Load time for a truck / shovel by hr | 0.075 | Dump time for truck
by hr | 0.028 | Trip time for truck without load and dump time by hr | 0.177 |
The whole trip takes 0.28 hrs or "16.8 mins".
Trip= time taken to load truck by shovel + time taken from shovel to crusher+ time taken for
dumping+ time taken to drive back from crusher to shovel.
So 0.28 = 0.075+ time taken between shovel and crusher (twice) + 0.028
So time taken between shovel and crusher (twice) is 0.177 hrs, so each trip takes 0.0885hrs (5.31
mins).

Life In Woolfe's Death Of A Moth
Woolfe is communicating to us about mortal death through her observation of the "Death of a Moth"
that the moth itself represents the inevitable demise of an individual life and how insignificant their
life can be. The moth itself allows us to see what it's like dying by taking out the human element.
When Woolf writes "conscious of a queer feeling of pity for him...only a moth's part in life, and a
day moths at that, appeared a hard fate, and his zest in enjoying his meagre opportunities to the full,
pathetic"(Woolfe 2). The moth's life is described as pathetic since it is so simple it causes Woolfe to

The moth allows us to abstractly look at our existence from an outside perspective. By thinking the
moth could go anywhere looking for change no matter where he went it was the same. No matter the
size of the sky there was a climax that only he could reach yet it seemed so far away. After flying
and trying to do something with its life the moth hits a wall which can be signified as old age for
people. Woolfe observes the moth continuing his struggle "He was trying to resume his dancing, but
seemed either so stiff or so awkward that he could only flutter to the bottom of the window–pane;
and when he tried to fly across it he failed...As one waits for a machine that has stopped
momentarily, to start again without considering the reason of its failure" (Woolfe 4). The moth
represents life as a whole and when he settles on a window seal and is unable to fly we begin to see
the similarities of when old age begins to take

titled "Death of a Moth". With vivid imagery and creative diction, both authors wrote themselves
into the narrative and became a character within their own story, giving them a unique point of view.
As they each recounted the moments leading up to the symbolic end of their moths' life, it becomes
clear both writers were affected by the death, but the impressions that the moth left were greatly
contrasted. Witnessing the moths failed attempt at escape, Woolf was inspired to accept death and

Residents Working 24-Hour Analysis

  • 1. Residents Working 24-Hour Analysis Residents should not work 24–hour shifts because it makes operations dangerous. This danger that can happen in a operation can end up harming the patient or the resident. As, Ladouceur describes in the article "...Dr Marie–Renee B Lajoie, a practicing family physician, argues against them." The author describes that in the debate there is a lot debating over residents working 24–hour shifts. As B– Lajoie pointed out about the problem of residents working 24–hour shifts on page 1 is that "...residents make 36% more serious medical mistakes..." This statistic/quote shows that residents working 24–hour shifts have a higher chance of making a medical mistake. This is caused by the residents being sleep–deprived. CONFLICT BETWEEN EMPLOYEES OVER MISBEHAVIOUR CONFLICT BETWEEN EMPLOYEES OVER MISBEHAVIOUR INTRODUCTION: In general conflict resolution is mostly concentrated on the conflicts that have occurred in the public. In this report I have tried to explain the circumstances that lead to conflict in workplace. This report analyses the situation using organizational behaviour concepts and gives an alternatives to avoid this kind of situations in future and my learning's. So, I found this disturbing and I have raised (Voiced) the complained to Associate H.R (Ms Ramani Reddy) about Paul's behavioural aspect on the floor. Soon, Ramani and I had a meeting, which was confidential. I explained her the whole situation and also informed her the way Paul behaved at that precise moment was uncalled for. Ms Ramani took my feedback and promised me that appropriate action would be taken. After a day Paul walked up to me and asked why did I put in the complaint against him. I was shocked to hear that he knew my name and he told me that Mrs Ramani has gave my name. Then he started abusing me for doing so in front of everyone on the floor. Due to this situation I have distanced myself from Paul and also noticed that other members on the floor distanced themselves from me as they though that going to HR was not appropriate. Here Ramani has not maintained the fairness and personally biased towards Paul as they were colleague before Ramani moving to HR department. Next day again Paul started misbehaving with me with abusive words. I was fuming by this time and I sent an email to the H.R head (Mrs Vidya Kumari) describing the whole situation and the Ms Ramani has dealt with the issues that was not fair (Fairness) on the part of H.R team. • 5. Case Study On Maintenance Managers Monday was my first day on the sales side of the company. That morning me and Dave had a lengthy conversation/review of good calling practices and the mentality that I should have when calling potential clients. Dave decided to start me off easy with calling Maintenance Managers. Then the majority of Monday morning was taken up with drafting and editing an appropriate script that I would be comfortable with. At the end of Monday morning I started calling and on my fourth call ever I got a promising lead with Chiquita that I sent follow up information to at the end of the day. Monday afternoon was filled with calling Maintenance Managers and following up with the three positive hits that I got from calling. Calling Maintenance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After all the interviews were done we sat in a meeting with all the hiring managers as they swapped information about the various candidates. Overall the mini conference was a remarkable success. They are sending job offers out to 8 out of the 10 candidates and bringing one back on site for a follow up interview. I had a dentist appointment at 4, so I had to run to that after getting back from the mini conference. Friday morning, I used the skills that Andy taught me to do my own research and find new companies. Late Monday morning and after Lunch I worked on making call plans for myself. In the afternoon, I called through most of my plan and am now wring this report. One of the first things I learned this week is the importance of listening when talking to clients. If you talk to them like you are a robot and don't have any personality, or worse, not be adaptive to what they are saying then they are not going to give you the time of day. Another important thing I learned is the LACE acronym. Dave taught me this when dealing with people who want to send you to HR. You listen to what they are saying, acknowledge what they are saying, clarify what they said (can be optional), and then explain yourself and what you are trying to do. I have implemented this strategy in real calls and it truly works and has kept me from being blown off to HR. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Is The 40 Hour Work Week Working? Final Research Paper Brooke Rambin December 9th , 2014 ISTD–300 Anderson Is the 40 Hour Work Week Working? Do you always feel like you are rushed for time? Working your whole day away and never having time to yourself? Do you wish you could set your own schedule each week? Well, the time has come where many companies human resources departments have changed their ways of thinking about the 40 hour work week. Many human resource departments have now began giving their employees a more flexible work schedule as long as their work is being completed. According to the Business Dictionary, "A workplace management and organizational technique optimizes human resources through flexibility based on segmenting the employees into peripheral and core groups. The core group of employees are difficult to replace because they have a specific skill set or experience, while the peripheral group consists of employees who could easily be replaced or are only needed in the organization for either peak periods or on specific tasks. Originally suggested in 1986 by Atkinson, and Meager's of the Institute of Manpower Studies." is what people in the human resource field call the flexible firm model. In Atkinson and Meager's model of flexible firm, there are 5 different types of industrial flexibility that a company and the human resources department focus on when deciding to choose if they want to allow their employees a flexible schedule or keep them working their normal 8 hour ... Working In 6 Hours Analysis While I've worked at the hospital we decided to try changing our shifts to to accomidate staff who wanted to attend school, we discovered that we had to hire more staff to cover departments while employees left early. It took so much time to hire and train, that the team wasn't able to get work load completed. We also decided that in the 6 hour shifts we were all running around trying to get the work done that there was so much confusion, trying to pick up where staff left off. 6 hours just isn't enough time to complete assigned tasks. I think that working 8 hour shifts is just about perfect. it's enough time to get the work done, but not so long that everyone get tired and sluggish before end of day. • 15. Working Long Hours And Its Effect On Family Life Working long hours have become a tradition in modern society. Although it was postulated from the past that today's society would have too much free time, this has turned out to be a sharp contradiction. In this paper, an examination of working long hours are examined with respect to how this habit became a norm, how it is propagated, and its effect on family life. Working long hours is a result of scarcity of resources in society. Long working hours is now a norm for society. This custom became established in the late 20th century. A good part of the 20th century was spent thinking about how the future would be full of leisure times for all the people. Living standards have risen steadily and wages seem to be always failing to keep up. For instance, college tuition has been increasing exponentially. It has been shown that between 1978 and 2012, tuition fees for colleges increased by 1,120 percent. Basic services such as child care are also quite expensive and in some states more costly than public colleges. Further, healthcare premiums increased by almost 100 percent between 2002 and 2012. All these increases are not being countered by an increase in wages. In the contrary, wages continue to fall. For instance, in 975 wages made up half of the GDP, but this fell to 43.5 percent in 2012. To compensate for the low wages and meet financial obligations, people find themselves working long hours to accumulate enough resources to cater for their needs. Secondly, the society has grown more materialistic. It has been reported that up to 1.2 trillion, 11.2 percent of consumer spending, is consumed on unnecessary products. Even for the products which may be necessary, the more costly ones seem to be preferred over the less costly. For instance, people will tend to buy bigger cars despite the fact that even small cars may serve them well. Being materialistic may help one to live comfortably. Further, gathering more wealth is also seen as a signal of success in the society. Therefore, one needs to work for long hours in order to meet the materialistic expectation of the society. Thoroughly examining a handful of Woolf's critics and works, Guiguet offers extensive character and whole novel analysis proposing her view of the works. Guiguet harmonizes her analysis with her predecessors by building off their work and recognizing their skill and limitations in reviewing Woolf's work boosting her credibility and strengthening her viewpoint. This presents a unique perspective and allows Guiguet to present Woolf's work with Woolf's idea's taken from her diaries, different critics view points and build her own ideas on the works as well. The table of contents separates the book by the work that is being analyzed and provides a simple way of collecting desired information from the text. The book can effortlessly be employed in scholarly essays to boost opinions and personal viewpoints strengthening the essays thesis, particularly if arguing the point of Woolf's life being entwined into her works. Marder, Herbert. The Measure of Life: Virginia Woolf's Last Years. Cornell University Press, 2000. Marder furnishes a remarkable outlook on Woolf and how her life was intimately tied with her works and influences, going so far as to provide images of Woof's family and discussing how the image paralleled Woolf's characters. This biography delves into Woolf's life without restraint and undresses Woolf's motives, thoughts, opinions, and life, whether about suicide, politics, insecurities, or relations with other people. Probing into the lives of the people surrounding Woolf, this book presents information on important personal influences in Woolf's life. Marder connects historical events with Woolf's life and works analyzing her life with a new vigor and perspective offering interesting insight on the influences in Woolf's life. The text has the potential of being utilized to support a variety of arguments and perspectives on Woolf's works, though more specifically, the text supports a thesis connecting Woolf's work and her characters to her life and opinions. Working Long Hours Is More Complicated Than What People Believe In the article, "You Really Don't Need To Work So Much", author Tim Wu believes that part of the American character is to prefer work to leisure time; therefore he provides an enlightening solution through which white– collar workers can confront this damaging work system. According to Wu, the majority of American professionals like taking pride about the job they have, want to seem important in the eyes of society and worry about the income they make; therefore, they usually prolong their work hours and forget about their spare time. However, Wu suggests a possible solution to this problem, by advising workers to "return to the goal of efficiency in work–fulfilling whatever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nonetheless, she is motivated by her own inherited need, to fulfill her career as a journalist, which makes her work hard and long hours with the objective of succeeding at challenging tasks. Moreover, the article "Inside Amazon: Wrestling Big Ideas in a Bruising Workplace" portrays the concept that Amazon's ruling principle is to focus on its own interest by pushing every employee to his/her limit without any considerations. Therefore, Wu's recommendation is definitely unrealistic because white–collar professionals must work long hours to comply with unnecessary work, meet their collections of needs, and conform to the company's demands and interests. Wu's solution to cut down long work hours, by focusing on what needs to be done and leaving the choice of doing more for to those who really like it, is very unrealistic because even if workers want to leave early, they get trapped with unneeded work they have created. One example that Wu gives is the situation of the litigation system, in which "lawyers subject each other to torturous amounts of labor just because they can" (87). Due to the fact that there are no limits of "technology and a kind of professionalism," workers charge themselves with work that has "nothing to do with real social or economic needs." This illustrates the idea that employees need to create work so they could be crazy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Central Value Connecting Mrs. Dalloway And The Hours The central value connecting Mrs Dalloway and The Hours is an affirmation of life. Although suicides feature in both Stephen Daldry's film and Virginia Woolf's novel both texts echo Woolf's words from her 1922 diary: 'I meant to write about death, only life came breaking in as usual.' Both Woolf's modernist 1925 novel and Daldry's 2002 postmodernist film focus on women whose rich inner lives are juxtaposed with their outer lives constrained by the contexts in which they live. The characters are placed in their respective context, to reflect on, or respond to, the consequences of war and AIDS, the difficulties of personal relationships, class, gender and sexuality. Mrs Dalloway seeks to narrate the inner life of characters in a single day, Wednesday, 13th June, 1923, while in The Hours, the action takes place within the span of a single day in three different years, 1923, 1951 and 2001. It communicates 3 parallel narratives with the focus on three different women, alternating between them throughout the film. In Mrs Dalloway, the chiming of both the grand Big Ben and the gentler St Margaret's symbolise the significance of time in life, despite a representation of time as mutable – Big Ben, 'a warning...then the hour, irrevocable', reminding Clarissa of mortality, while St Margaret's chimes in a little late, gliding 'into the recesses of the heart and buries itself, to be, with a tremor of delight, at rest.' Virginia Woolf Death Of A Moth Analysis Sophia Fortune CCR 092 King October 31, 2017 Summary Response of Virginia Woolf's "The Death of the Moth, In the "Death of a Moth" by Virginia Woolf, Woolf compares the wonder of life and death by using a moth as an example of the simplicity of life and death and that we need to accept the inevitable of life and how death fallows, though putting up a fight is an essential part of this whole process. Describing a mostly overlooked creature, a moth, as it exists in nature, particularly on the September day. Woolf unable to concentrate, captivated by the moth, but yet also distracted by the work going on in the fields and the movements of the birds in the background. Considering the moths life "pathetic," especially as this is not a real moth because it flies during the day. It is becoming apparent that the moth is dying and at first intending to help the creature, and then deciding that she should not. With the moth's last efforts are dignified and admirable and his appearance in death is significant. Death is all consuming and somehow conflicting as the moth lies there "uncomplainingly composed." ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is perhaps, like the moth, making her own last attempt at survival. Woolf tried during her lifetime to expose the restrictions that are on women and their attempts to free themselves. • 25. Argumentative Essay On Excessive Screen Time Lately, the issue of excessive screen time is becoming increasingly important in pediatrics, and it has become a major risk factor for many chronic conditions such as vision impairment, obesity, and altercations to social behavior. While many parents realize that excessive screen time is harmful, children are still spending eight to ten hours on their electronic devices. Not many parents realize that proper regulation is also needed to keep their child safe from health risks. According to the National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute, 28 percent of parents set TV–watching rules, 30 percent set rules about video game use, and 36 percent of parents set rules about computer use ("Reduce Screen Time", 2013). This is a problem because 60 percent of children are constantly stumbling upon explicit content every year, and their behavior shifts more negatively and aggressively (Lunsford, 510). I believe that too much screen time can pose much harm to a child's health and well–being. If we don't find ways to limit excessive screen time than children will face many consequences that will ultimately harm them as they grow older. Screen time is any time spent using an electronic device such as a computer, T.V, phone, or video game console. Many statistics have shown that an average adult spends nearly eight hours of screen time a day while children spend eight to ten hours a day (Lunsford, 513). Comparing the two pieces of data, children spend more time on electronics than many adults do, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf The purpose of a lighthouse is to serve as a navigational aid to shores or ports and to warn boats of dangerous areas. To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf is a novel that teaches how one person can affect the lives of people around them by, in a sense, shining a light on the person's specific traits. In the novel, Mrs. Ramsay is one of the main characters that unfortunately does not make it to the end of the story, but her presence is shadowed throughout the novel where she is not there physically. Virginia Woolf used the lighthouse as analogy for Mrs. Ramsay's existence in the first part of the book and after her death during the third section of the book. Mrs. Ramsay's death allows the reader to realize that she is the lighthouse that highlights and unifies her family and all the guests during the time spent together at the Ramsay's summer home. Though Mrs. Ramsay was the conjoining light that brought people together, Woolf decides to kill Mrs. Ramsay in part two of the novel. During the moments of Mrs. Ramsay lighting, Woolf incorporates dark thoughts that expresses a different side to the novel. "Bitter and black, half–way down, in the darkness, in the shaft which ran from the sunlight to the depths, perhaps a tear formed; a tear fell..." (p.32). Woolf is reflecting on her perception of death and how she dealt with the thoughts of killing herself. As for Woolf's own death, she left her house leaving behind a note to Vanessa Bell, her sister, and a note to Leonard Woolf, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Working Long Hours Is Part Of Being A Nurse Essay Overtime: Mandatory or Choice Assess the Situation Working long hours is part of being a nurse. Each shift requires both mental and physical stamina. But what happens when you get to end of a long shift only to find out there is no one coming in to take your place? Unfortunately, that is sometimes the case. For example, a charge nurse in Massachusetts was faced with working 16 hours when a member of her nursing staff did not come in for their scheduled shift. She did not volunteer for overtime, she was going through radiation treatment herself (Luna, 2006, p.13), but what was her alternative? Her facility did not have another nurse that they could call in. Without someone else to come in and work, she would be abandoning patients which would be unethical. However considering the circumstances, could she properly care for her patients? Would staying be ethical? Diagnose the Ethical Dilemma Nursing practices are developed around the patient and nurses work hard to provide ethical, patient–centered care. However, sometimes a "situation arises when attempted adherence to basic ethical principles results in two conflicting courses of action" (Taylor, Lillis, LeMone, & Lynn, 2011, p. 97). This is called an ethical dilemma. The Massachusetts nurse feels she cannot handle the overtime, yet she is responsible to provide care in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Nurses and there are no set practices at her facility that can be employed help with this situation. ... Throughout the essay Woolf had a complex attitude towards the moth. In order to establish her depressing, hopeless, and desperate tone, she uses symbolism, imagery, juxtaposition, and syntax. Virginia Woolf utilized imagery to make the reader comprehend that the moth´s battle with death was homogeneous to her battle with her bipolar tendencies and depression. In the fourth paragraph, ¨He was trying to resume his dancing, but seemed either so stiff or so awkward.....and when he tried to fly across it he failed,¨ Woolf illustrates the struggle of the moth. The Nurses Working Hours: General Description of Indonesian Regulation Introduction Health care is one of the area of public services which need continuous services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Therefore, traditionally, shift hours work schedule is the only options over the traditional Monday through Friday office hours to provide continuous services to the public. As generally known, there are options of working hours in applying the shift work hours. There are some institutions use 12– hours shift, while some others use 8–hours shift and some others have additional staff to work part– time with shift pattern outside of these two pattern. Nowadays, the healthcare services cost increases and becomes more expensive. To deal with it, hospitals and healthcare institutions try their best to reduce operating cost and expenses. Nursing profession is an integral part of the healthcare system and plays significant roles in providing healthcare services to the public. However, this profession accounts as the biggest number staff in hospitals, and thus, is considered as one of the biggest expenditures of hospitals budget. With this situation, nurses become target for cost reduction of the hospitals by hiring limited number of skilled RNs and substituting them with less qualified nursing personnel (Stone, Tourangeau, Duffield, Hughes, Jones, O'Brien–Pallas, & Shamian, 2003). • 37. Virginia Woolf's The Death Of The Moth Virginia Woolf, an early twentieth century English modernist, uses a combination of symbols, imagery, and diction to demonstrate to her audience the ultimate struggle between life and death and the inescapable inevitability of death. In The Death of the Moth,in order to give the reader a visual of the struggle between life and death,Woolf uses the moth as a symbol representing a life force. To the audience we see it as a deeper meaning or a different representation. Virginia Woolf wants us to see the moth as a real human life. We compare the two because we as humans are like the moth, we live and we die.She made sure to let us know that "He was little or nothing but life." That one mention is enough for the audience to perceive the moths oncoming death. The second symbol Virginia Woolf uses is the pencil. Task 5A Here I am going to discuss about the time management strategy that I am going to use to improve my working hours and get benefited from that. TIME MANAGEMENT The current idea of time management – the demonstration of arranging the measure of time we spend on which exercises – truly started with Frederick Taylor 's logical management methods. His objective was to build laborer profitability. To do this, he led time and movement studies and started to concentrate on the most ideal courses for employments to be performed to boost the work finished in a given measure of time. Advanced time management objectives are still to build efficiency; however, the most ideal way stays tricky. Numerous scientists have investigated the subject and concoct diverse hypotheses on viable time administration. These are the four most effective time management concept that I will discuss: Eliminate the Unnecessary This turns out to be increasingly genuine consistently. Either professionally or personally, taking out the "unnecessary" in life goes far in making me more profitable. Put just, I have to draw a firm, particular line between the "important" and "unnecessary" in my life. The stricter I characterize these terms, the more I will see that a great deal of things are really pointless in my life. Plan Work It is inportant to plan work before we get to start any. After lunch, you can focus on your work and not your growling stomach. If you feel guilty about taking a break, remember that they do not have to be long. A fifteen to twenty minute break will be sufficient enough to recharge you. Studies go further and even recommend taking a nap if it is allowed because your body is completely recharged after a twenty minute nap. Also if you have a longer break time, it is a good idea to work out after your meal (Cooper, 2014). Currently at Tewksbury Physical Therapy, six out of eight of our therapists do get a lunch break. One of them, a man named Michael, happens to get a two hour lunch block, so he always works out after he eats unless he is tired. Then he takes a nap. • 43. The Theme Of Time In Michael Cunningham's 'The Hours' Time: A Gift and a Curse Time is the one thing that is constant in life. For some, this provides a remedy for anxiety. The idea that time will go on, no matter the events it beholds can provide comfort. However, other people see this clock that never ceases as a trap, containing its prisoners in a life of misery. This concept is ever so daunting in Michael Cunningham's novel, The Hours. His three main characters, Clarissa Vaughan, Laura Brown, and Virginia Woolf, live in three different time periods. Through the span of twenty–four hours their stories intertwine, defying the rules of time which the characters themselves were left to contemplate. In his novel, The Hours, Michael Cunningham's characters, Clarissa, Laura, and Virginia demonstrate both the negative and positive connotations associated with a progression of time through their narratives. Virginia and Laura, provide the negative connotations of time. Virginia is restrained by the toll that time has taken on her mental health. Laura is tortured by the plainness of her life and the idea of time prolonging agony. Lastly, Clarissa provides the positive connotations of time. She emphasizes the importance of appreciating life. Through these opposing viewpoints, Michael Cunningham introduces the bittersweet concepts of time. The oldest character of the three is Virginia Woolf, a notorious author of the early twentieth century who is known to have killed herself. Cunningham writes of Virginia's own personal thoughts ... The expectations seemed like guarantees: later on, working hours would be short and get–aways or vacations long. In this paper, an examination of working long hours is examined with respect to how this habit became a norm, how it is propagated, and its effect on family life. Working long hours is a result of scarcity of resources in society. Long working hours is now a norm for society. This custom became established in the late 20th century. It has been shown that between 1978 and 2012, tuition fees for colleges increased by 1,120 percent. Basic services such as child care are also quite expensive and in some states more costly than public colleges. Further, healthcare premiums increased by almost 100 percent between 2002 and 2012. All these increases are not being countered by increase in wages. In the contrary, wages continue to fall. For instance, in 975 wages made up half of the GDP but this fell to 43.5 percent in 2012. To compensate for the low wages and meet financial obligations, people find themselves working long hours to accumulate enough resources to cater for their needs. Parallels Between "Mrs Dalloway" and "The Hours" The ongoing relationship between the literary movements of modernism and post–modernism is encompassed by the intertextual relationships between Stephen Daldry's "The Hours" and Virginia Woolf's "Mrs Dalloway". These relationships communicate the inadequacy of previous writings to convey trauma, cultural crisis and the deep fragmentation within their respective societies. The immediate context of these social dialogues creates a clear division between each text, however the intertextual similarities between minor and major characters create an effective parallel to traverse decades, years, months and days. " The coffee was very slow ... until Mr Whitbread had finished ... Hugh was so very slow" the agonising sense of immediacy both draws our attention back to clock time whilst allowing us to delve into Clarissa's past as she recalls that Hugh is always so absurdly slow. As reality is blurred in psychological time, external time punctuates the novel "There! Out it boomed. First a warning, musical, then the hour, irrevocable" this reminds the reader that this story is in fact occurring in a single day and every event experienced outside of this timeframe is a figment of a characters memory. Woolf makes these memories the focus of the novel rather than external time to create a mobile reality where she fabricates the sense of movement by traversing time through the consciousness of her characters. These memories therefore are from a specific point of view and therefore exclude some properties of the remembered moment and parts of said reality may simply be "dissolved in the air" as the memory fades with ongoing time. Daldry approaches Woolf's tunnelling technique with sensitivity and subtlety in order to unify Virginia, Laura and Clarissa. Calculations | Shovels | Trucks | Hr / load | 0.024 | 0.28 | Load time for a truck / shovel by hr | 0.075 | Dump time for truck by hr | 0.028 | Trip time for truck without load and dump time by hr | 0.177 | The whole trip takes 0.28 hrs or "16.8 mins". Trip= time taken to load truck by shovel + time taken from shovel to crusher+ time taken for dumping+ time taken to drive back from crusher to shovel. So 0.28 = 0.075+ time taken between shovel and crusher (twice) + 0.028 So time taken between shovel and crusher (twice) is 0.177 hrs, so each trip takes 0.0885hrs (5.31 mins). Exhibit 8 "Distribution of crusher delays during day shift" From summary Statistics, we found that: * Mean Delay = 12.86 minutes = 0.214 hrs * Number of Delays = 332 * Sampling Interval = 120 ... By thinking the moth could go anywhere looking for change no matter where he went it was the same. No matter the size of the sky there was a climax that only he could reach yet it seemed so far away. After flying and trying to do something with its life the moth hits a wall which can be signified as old age for people. Woolfe observes the moth continuing his struggle "He was trying to resume his dancing, but seemed either so stiff or so awkward that he could only flutter to the bottom of the window–pane; and when he tried to fly across it he failed...As one waits for a machine that has stopped momentarily, to start again without considering the reason of its failure" (Woolfe 4).
