4. SJHS has four RLA
teachers, two for 7th
grade, two for 8th
grade
The other 7th grade
RLA teacher and I
have six RLA classes
between us. We also
each cover a block of
ISS and teach two
career exploration
classes.
I have two “regular”
classes and one 7th/8th
mixed Read 180 class.
We call that one an
“RLA pullout”.
The other 7th grade
RLA teacher has two
inclusion class (with a
co-teacher) and one
“regular” class.
I have 26 and 28
students in my
“regular” RLA classes,
15 in my Read 180
class.
Our newest RLA
teacher just got a RIF
letter – they are
cutting one RLA
position. Bet I’ll be
teaching two grade
levels next year.
5. Of my 69 RLA students,
it’s almost split down
the middle – 35 girls, 34
boys.
Of my 69 RLA students,
67 are Caucasian.
Going by my anecdotal
evidence, about ¼ of my
students live with
grandparents or
aunts/uncles.
Going by my anecdotal
evidence, almost half of
my RLA students live
with both biological
parents.
From my in-class
surveys, all my students
have driven a four-
wheeler and have a
Facebook page.
2015 is the third year in
a row that our school
has sent a speller to the
Regional Spelling Bee.
About ¼ of RLA students
are athletes, which
leads to late nights
during basketball
season especially.
Of the three junior high
or middle schools in the
county, SJHS is known
as the most polite and
respectful.
We share our cafeteria
and music, Spanish, and
art teachers with
Sherman High School.
