The Sixth Decade By Jonathan Schell
GS 435 Book Review
The Seventh Decade by Jonathan Schell

The nuclear bomb is an interesting phenomenon that has captured the fascination of scholars,
academics, politicians, and the media to bring curiosity and fear together. The first and only use of
nuclear weapons occurred in 1945 during the Second World War, wiping out over 200,000 Japanese
civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nuclear bombs, were now viewed as the number one threat
that could potentially destroy our planet and the human race. Since 1945 nuclear weapons have
since been a strong threat that has imposed a psychological anxiety for world leaders as this threat
has expanded to fifty countries with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third and final proposal is taking greater action on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty to
confirm all nations are on the same playing field to dismantle nuclear weaponry. I plan on providing
updated analysis in these issues as well. The Seventh Decade was written in 2007 and a lot has gone
on since then in regards to nuclear activity and I plan on making it clear to the reader where the U.S.
and the rest of the world stands.
It has been seventy years since the last military nuclear bomb was successfully executed and many
of us feel that nuclear threats have decedent or vanished, but Schell informs us that they are full of
life. The Seventh Decade examines how the nuclear bomb has continued to cast a dark shadow over
global politics and has advocated for the non–proliferation of nuclear weapons. The book takes on a
robust roadmap to a nuclear bomb free world that looks at the historical dark uncertainties of the
Cold War, where the odds of a nuclear attack were extremely high during the 1962 Cuban Missile
Crisis to the spread of nuclear knowledge and technology in the 1990s to unstable nations like Iraq
and Pakistan, increasing the risk and fear of a nuclear war. Schell brings up some important
foundational questions like what can be done? Where are we heading? Why has the nuclear threat
been revived? The Seventh Decade calls into question for a global debate to end nuclear

Pros And Cons Of 1950s Decade
I agree with the author on even though 1950s get more votes compared to other decades, however, it
still have a lot of mixed pros and cons. The 1950s sound like a great decade for many family to have
a better life because of better economy. However, there still a lot of sexism and racism which cause
the decade sound like a nightmare for an Asian girl like me. The 1950s decade is not a good decade
to live in even though it have a lot things that help family to have a better life. For example, the
author give the reader some statistics : " In Philadelphia, for example, the City of Brotherly Love,
there were more than 200 racial incidents over housing in the first six months of 1950s alone" (40).
It is hard to even find a place to live during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that, the only people that have a better life and find this decade is a good decade to live
in will be mostly White people. During this time racism is a very large problem. Because of these
problems many "others" have a difficult time to find a job, a place to live, and even have to deal
with others people bias and bad treatments. An example, "The Federal Housing Authority..., refused
to insure homes in all–black or in racially mixed neighborhoods" (40). This means that, there were a
lot of government benefits got created only to help out the White people. Compared to today, people
with different races can receive many more benefits than when they were live in 1950. Even though,
racism still a great problem in this decade, and people with color skins will have a difficult time to
survive in this decade. Still, this time can be count as one of the most peaceful time for people with
different races. This due to how some people are defined as "others", but there is only a little violent
happen, "...individual homicide rates fell to almost half the levels of the 1930s" (34). Racism will

40's Decade
Emcee Decade Blurbs 40's–10's 40's: This decade is what we like to call an oldie but a goodie.
Music in the 1940s was mainly built around the jazz and big band styles that were popular during
the day. It was during this decade that artists like Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra began to bloom
into true musicians. Our first decade is: the 40's! 50's: Now we have the 50's, with music from artists
like Elvis Presley, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly. It was around this time that Rock
& Roll, R&B, Country, and traditional pop first became popular. The music from this decade reflects
this time of cultural change: it's the 50's! 60's: The 1960's were a time of upheaval in society,
fashion, attitudes and especially in music. In 1963, the "British Invasion" began, along with several
other movements of music like Psychedelic Rock, A Capella, and Motown that influenced the
diversity in music we hear so often today. This is the 60's! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The 70's is also known for it's relaxing music, bell bottom jeans and the uprising of disco music.
Soul Train!!! It's time for the 70's! 80's: And now we have the decade of the yuppies, the decade
where affluence, fashion, and charity were just as important as the music. This decade also
witnessed "newer" genres like Hip Hop, Hair metal, and New Wave. If you don't like 80's music
you're *like* a total dweeb! Fer sureee. 90's: As we get closer and closer to modern day music, you
may see more diversity in our music genres... especially in this decade. The 90's have famous artists
ranging all the way from Green Day to Mariah Carey to $noop Doggy Dogg! (yeah waddup) This is

Racism Through the Decades
Should The adventures of Huckleberry Finn be banned from schools? In the past century many
people have argued whether it should or shouldn't be. In many perspectives, this book taught people
what it was like back then and how it used to be in 1884. Others believe that, the book was full of
racial slurs and was just racist in general. The controversy between both sides of this book has had
tremendous opinions spoken and has really changed others mind about it but if you really decypher
the book it isn't as racist as people would like to believe. It shouldn't be banned from schools
because students shouldn't be censored in what they read, especially if it been classified as literature.
Stories like this help students realize what it was like for colored people back then and help justify
their understanding of racism in the south. Just because the book has some vulgar language in it,
doesn't mean the children should be censored by it. Theres a good chance that they are hearing
worse just from their peers, at least when they read stories like "The Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn" by Mark Twain, they are learning actual history and making connections on how it used to be.
If you were to wipe out this book from schools, it would be taking away the opportunity to learn
about what Twain teaches in his books like attitudes in the south, new perspectives, and examples of
satire. Twain was a very ingenuity author, which is the precise reason that his works should be
taught in

Evaluation Of Dekalb, Illinois Development Plan
Development plans are and should be a very complex piece of work. There should be a long process
to come up with problems, goals, fixes and implementation strategies. This paper will be a summary
and evaluation of DeKalb, Illinois development plan. It was adopted in March of 2005. There were
both strong aspects to the plan, as well as areas that need much work to it. DeKalb's plan considers
multiple aspects for the development of many aspects of the community. The plan starts with the
"Desired Development direction." This was the beginning of their update to list off five broad
elements for the future of the city including sustainability, continuous improvement, character,
connectivity and cohesion. To follow these five elements, many meetings were held, a few large and
many small, to get a view from a wide–range of people on what problems the city was facing.
Multiple organizations were in these meetings such as the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce and the
DeKalb Sanitary District Board. There were similar ideas thrown out by all groups that related to the
character issues which include identifying DeKalb as a university town and the safety of the city.
Influences outside of DeKalb include the Rochelle rail port and the Elburn Metra Train to help
people travel into and out of the city. The population growth is one issue that the plan has to focus
on. Much of the population growth in the ten years before this plan was due to an increase in diverse
culture. Land uses from high

A Decade of Change for Women
Intricate female heroines set in a futuristic dystopia, battling for their lives and struggling to build a
better world are components of the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and the Divergent series by
Veronica Roth. Beatrice Prior is a strong–willed, daring protagonist of the Divergent Series. Her life
changes when she discovers that she is Divergent. Meaning that she has an unusual mindset that
cannot be constricted to one way of reasoning. The government leaders view Beatrice, or Tris as a
threat to society because of this. Comparable to Tris, Katniss Everdeen is the leading character of
the Hunger Games. She proved to be bold and selfless when she put her life at risk for her younger
sister Primrose. In both the Hunger Games and Divergent, the mighty female heroines are giving
way to a new role for young women rather than the traditional damsel in distress. These two novels
give women a voice, and express the importance of thinking for one's self. Katniss from the Hunger
Games rejects the gender roles of her society. She is not a healer or a seamstress. She is a hunter, a
role usually reserved for men. Katniss started providing for her family at the early age of twelve,
after her father passed away. She declares that she doesn't want to get married or have children.
According to Linda Lowen, "If even the smallest fraction of readers get the female empowerment
message that intelligence, resilience and loyalty trump beauty, popularity and wealth, we have

reference points needed amidst existing literature) an autoethnograghic epochal segment of the

optic of the researcher's post–colonial missiology in its seminal formation as well as map of the
intensely personal spiritual volition ( Yocum 2014) that as reflected upon guides the reader to a rich
experience of sharing the author's journey. A Decade of Healing It was if I had a second degree burn
on my soul. After the initial recoil from the assassination in an epochal sense I entered a decade of
healing. Until 1992 and the death of my father, I was numb to the injury. I simply established
boundaries like a band aid. To prevent the outside world from causing further injury, I joined the U.

The blister exposed to the world had now covered over the skin. For the healing to occur underneath
the surface the skin has to become moist and tender. A steady, unresolvable, gently burning pain
came into my conscience. After ten years, and I had not returned to normal. Nobody, including
myself, really knew about it. There was just a general unsettledness in my life. I couldn't refer to the
matter clearly in the past tense. It was unlike typical grieving or trauma. It wasn't simply the death
of a close friend. Nor was it the trauma of the violence. Set between me and the universe there was
still a lack of order, a loss of meaning which I couldn't frame. Something between the Christian call

The Decade Of The 1980 ' S
The decade of the 1980 's experienced a massive sorts of changes in economics and culture, this
requires a certain analysis of the time and the way culture became intertwined with economics. The
culture transformed and allowed the decade to be read as an experience of cultural products between
culture and economy. Through the conspicuous consumption of the decade, the 1980s encouraged a
cultural shift towards complete commodification (what is this) and interaction with the market.
Ronald Reagan 's presidency throughout the decade created a framework for the people, and
ultimately, the culture to transform. His early and continued leadership outlined the tone of the
decade and this gave a context for the theoretical work of neoliberalism ... Show more content on

Reaganomics was an economic vision, "that expressed a way of looking at the world, a framework
for understanding the economy and society and the individual 's place within both" (Troy and
Cannato, eds 128). This serves to further understand and develop the relationship between society
and economy. (how? Expand this quote, you used it for a reason) With the presidential leadership
outlining this impression, it creates room for regeneration and reinvention to occur within the
culture of the decade. Through the implementation of Reaganomics, the American culture was
reinvigorated with a new vision of economics, and even individuality. Reagan consistently
addressed the American people and "his effort to restore the self–confidence of the American people
and their faith in the traditions and institutions of the country was an important part of the national
recovery during the 1980s" (Troy and Cannato, eds, 31). A new cultural space was created and the
American culture transformed in something that was produced and consumed. Americans spent time
learning to find their space under the new economic shift and Reagan 's confident leadership. The
drive to support American confidence through the economic shifts cuts through the class politics and
allows for Reaganomics to shape the decade in the later years.
As the new space for culture and economics develops, America starts to

Decade of Corporate Greed
Decade of Corporate Greed Dale Schroll University of Phoenix Axia College As Ronald Reagan
Ascended in the 1980's he reinvented Republican policies that favored deregulation and the growth
of business in America. These Ideas markedly opposed the views of the governmental
interventionist policies of the 1960's and 70's with these ideas Reagan hoped to decrease
government Involvement and heavy taxes. With these tax cuts Reagan's thinking was that many new
businesses would spawn and that it would have a trickledown effect by not only empowering
businesses to grow and hire more people which in the end would benefit all from those on top in the
corporate world all the way down to the lowest person in the company in which ... Show more

This new concentration of wealth created a whole new class of millionaires, however on the
downside for every millionaire there were several hundred homeless people. With this came more
negativity that came with the corporate greed of the 80's.For these people who became homeless and
poor due to these millionaires greed were blamed for dragging down the economy by Republican
politicians and their mouthpieces in the media, while the truth we found out later is that indeed it
was these rich people who were ripping us off and actually were responsible for dragging down the
economy. Going as far to blaming the poor the city of Los Angeles installed a fingerprint system to
guard against welfare fraud that cost the city and hardworking tax payers 30 million dollars, and for
all of this it caught one cheater. While at the same time "White collar" crime was rising and costing
us more than street crime cost, also doing more damage and arguably causing more deaths. Reagan
also had a deregulation of the savings and loans industry which was a total debacle and ended up
costing Americans 500 billion dollars which is part of the still current banking problem that is going
on today. Unfortunately

The Sixties: A Decade of Rebellion Essay
"Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been
passed to a new generation of Americans" (Kennedy 916). With these words, John F. Kennedy in his
inaugural address in 1961 described the 1960's decade. This era in American history encapsulated a
belief in the power of young people to change the world, a desire to help others globally and accept
their differences, and a war that would eventually destroy all that America stood for. It was a time
for new ideas in all aspects of life. This shift in thinking is apparent when looking at the happenings
in society, the younger generation, and the media. The sixties were the beginning of many great
revolutions in society.
The sixties were a time of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third president during the sixties was Richard Nixon, a republican who paid much attention to
foreign affairs. He withdrew the United States from the Vietnam War and reestablished diplomatic
ties with China (Horton 165). He was involved in the Watergate scandal and was also responsible
for a great deal of illegal wiretapping. Richard Nixon was eventually impeached in 1974 for abusing
his powers (Carter–Cooper). These events directly affected people's lives and impacted the country's
society. People's lives were both directly and indirectly affected by the politics of the sixties. Society
reacted to political events in different ways depending on what social class they belonged to. The
tone of the decade was one of rebellion. One significant influence was the feminist movement and
women's rights. The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan inspired many women and caused new
women's groups to be created. Women all across the country began to question the roles they had
and fight for equal rights (Horton 32–41). Birth control was legalized in the United States, and
abortion was a huge topic of controversy (Holland 126). Women wanted to be able to procure
abortions without the risk of complications, and many got abortions even though they were illegal
and in most cases, unsafe (Singleton 2). Women also wanted to get paid the same wages for doing
the same work as men, which eventually happened in 1963 with the passing of the Equal Pay Act
(Horton 41). Another

Cable Television that inspired people to follow popular TV shows' fashion (Alexander). Dynasty
came out as one of the most watched soap operas at the time and people began stealing fashion and
makeup ideas from the show almost instantly, for example, shoulder pads. Shoulder pads could be
worn as a formal work ensemble and then turn around and wear it out to a party and was a very
versatile look for teens on the go. MTV was a budding show that had just came out (Dworjan).
Unlike what MTV is now, it featured uprising singers and comedians that appealed to a teenage
audience. One famous singer that was featured on MTV quite often was Madonna (Leaper).
Madonna then became the fashion icon as she is still known as today. Her hair scrunchies and
leatherware hit the shelves in clothing stores everywhere. It seemed to be that the more hits
Madonna made, the more people wanted to borrow her style (Leaper). In this period Michael
Jackson hit his highest peak. Everyone was apart of the MJ craze. Of course MTV featured one of
the most popular videos of all time "Thriller". Thriller's signature red and black leather jacket was

It does not come out and say where the two main places, Hanoi and Saigon, are actually located.
Lawrence often refers to them as those names throughout his study and never puts a North or South
Vietnam with it for clarification. Although, Lawrence does include a map of Vietnam and the
surrounding territories on page 12, a reader could be lost on who is who by this point in the book.
Another point that readers could get mildly confused on is when Lawrence refers to Vietnam as
different names. For example, "over time, they hoped, aggressive "search–and–destroy" operations
would inflict casualties more quickly than North Vietnam and the NLF could replace their losses,
thus forcing the communists to seek peace on American terms," (Lawrence, 102). Lawrence never
explained the NLF, National Liberation Front, and what it means or whom it represents. Lawrence
also used Vietcong regularly throughout his study. For instance, "Vietcong," a contraction of the
term for "Vietnamese communist," Lawrence does not really explain why he calls it Vietcong
throughout the book (Lawrence, 65). Lawrence could have explained whom this term was more
directly used for or why it was used to explain these people. Lawrence's study reveals a lot about the
Vietnam War and the role of the United States in Southeast Asia from 1954 to 1975, including the
Second Indochina War (Lawrence, 65),

stride in women's rights, sports, education, politics, global issues, and helping nature. From catchy

event in the 70's was sports for many reasons. Cassius Clay had defended his title 8 times, but in
1967 outside the ring, he lost a major battle. He was convicted of refusing to submit induction into
the armed services (Our Century 55). The World Boxing Association the stripped him of his title and

Feminism Throughout The Decades
Fight for Your Rights: Feminism Throughout the Decades
Women have historically had a rocky relationship with governmental, cultural, religious, and social
rights. The Women's Rights movement has been in effect since approximately 1792, with the
publication of the first feminist work, "A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, by British writer
Mary Wollstonecraft" ("Women's Rights Movement"). While social changes have occurred and
more progressive laws have been put into place throughout the years, there is still not equality
between the sexes. Additionally, gender roles in different countries differ greatly. The purpose of this
paper is to highlight the major causes and concerns of the Women's Rights movements throughout
the decades, as well as denote the differences between more progressive societies and their less
accepting counterparts.
There have been many causes that lead to the Women's Rights movement. Though the focus of these
movements have progressed with time and brought about different waves, the primary cause that
initiated the need for the Women's Rights movement was simply the fact that women were
historically considered second–class citizens. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Financial Crisis Of The Decade

United States but globally. The top largest banks have fallen due to the losses they have incurred in
connection with their investments in the subprime mortgage markets. (Financial Crises 2007–2008
Overview) Governments had to come up with some solutions in order to further avert the decline of
their country 's economy as the financial crises of the United States overflowed into the global
financial and world economy. (Marshall, n.d).This paper discusses the history of the financial crisis
– its causes, impacts, and the responses of governments and other institutions. The origins of the
financial crises The root causes of the financial crisis were a combination of debt and mortgage–
backed assets. While inflation had been going up since the end of the World War the house prices in
the United States had been steadily rising at a much higher rate than the inflation trend. As shown in
the chart the fluctuations are few, but the trend had been upward. (Financial Crises 2007–2008

All the ranks on the social class had dropped. The poor became poorer than the poor. Finding work
was sporadic at best and it was impossible for men to pay for their homes which led to people
having to move into their cars, piano boxes and anything they could possibly find shelter in. The
Great Depression got farmers the worst as severe dust storms hit the prairies. Temperature raised
immensely in 1936 making wind storms hotter and drier, and with no rain there was no crops.
Western prairies became almost completely dependent on the export of wheat but grass hoppers and

while Canada experienced the Great Depression, many couples refrained from marrying due to
economic uncertainty and high unemployment. These causes of the Depression impacted the

Moreover, the Canadian government took many measures to pull Canada out of the Depression they

decrease in poverty percentages arose which benefitted those of the generation (Brinkley). However,
during this time period America underwent a nationwide revolution as a result of the Cold War
(Kennedy 877). Critical areas of American life such as space travel, arms development and the
acquisition of foreign alliances such as North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) were formed, all
to oppose the communist political ideology (Kennedy 877). This decade also became a turning point
in the widespread development of music, with the introduction of rock and ... Show more content on

The Beat Generation was founded in the early 1940' s but was mainly developed throughout the
50's. Some of its major influences were Jack Kerouac, known as the generations founder, Lawrence
Ferlinghetti and Allen Ginsberg, each with their own social impact in society (Rahn). The majority
of those within the movement were from the middle class but educated in public policies as well
(Rahn). The major points that were argued by this generation were that Capitalism was really a
policy that hurt Americans more than it helped them and it would come to "question the
materialism" of the 50's society. In a book known as Howl published by Allen Ginsberg within the
time period would come to challenge the view of pornography (Rahn). A trial was conducted and it
was found that fictional writings were not to be impacted by "censorship" (Rahn). Not all members
of society enforced the outbreak of this ideology. Recorded in 1958, Reverend Bernard P. Donachie
was quoted in The New York Times as saying "the Beat Generation had flourished because they are
simply the product of twisted confusion" ("PRIEST BELITTLES..."). This quote shows that
traditionalists were still fighting the upcoming open minded generation to preserve their own
cultural values. The Beat Generation, in a crucial period in history would greatly impact the minds

Never has a decade been as influential to humanity's progression as the 70s. The 1970s was a strong

Much more than a decade of hippies and pop culture. They were a time of great political movement

brought Jane Fonda, Robert Redford, and John Travolta to fame. Movies that had never been

First Decade Of The 1900s
What do you see as the most serious problem in the first decade of the 1900s? In the first decade of
the 1900s, I think the most serious problem was the high levels of poverty among the American
people (Barnes & Bowles, 2014). Though there was racial, discrimination that time, it is evident that
the Americans discriminated each other in through the industrial capitalist power. Why was this
problem more serious than the other problems? The working conditions that time were extreme. The
working environments were unsafe; on the other hand, they were unsanitary ones. More often, they
created incidents that raised the public concerns (Barnes & Bowles, 2014). Employers hired children
and women so that they can save by paying fewer wage. Individuals

A Decade Of Fear Summary
Sam Robert in the article "A decade of fear" argues that Mccarthyism turned Americans against each
other. Robert supports his claim by illustrating fear, describing betrayal, and comparing it to other
US internal conflicts. The author's purpose is to point out a vulnerable point in American history in
order to demonstrate how Americans fell prey to Mccarthy's propaganda. The author writes in a
direct and cynical tone for an educated audience. I Strongly agree with Rogers. Mccarthyism caused
Americans to turn on each other because it sparked and strengthened the fear of there being
communist spies in the government. As well as inciting Americans to hunt and expose communists
or anyone they thought to be communist and plunging Americans into a mass hysteria.
Clearly Mccarthyism planted the fear of there being communist spies in the government. For
example Mccarthy stated "I have here in hand a list of of 205, a list of names that were made known
to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still
working and shaping policy in the state department." This alone had people beginning to become
anxious. Additionally, as Roberts states "in 1953 Mccarthy became chairman of the Senate

Additionally, political figures used the fear and dislike of communist to give themselves a push.

The Roaring Twenties: Decade Of Transformation
The Roaring Twenties: Decade of Transition and Transformation The 1920s or The Roaring
Twenties played an important role in American History. It's past and future experienced a dramatic
change, because of how entrenched america was physiologically and culturally, but in the 1920s it
seemed to break its evocative attachments to the recent past and escort in a more modern era. The
most scintillating impressions of that era are flappers and dance halls, movie palaces and radio
empires, and Prohibition and speakeasies. Scientists unraveled boundaries of space and time,
engineers built wonders, aviators flew men, and women were free to work. The country was
confident and rich. But the 1920s were an age of extreme contradiction. The ... Show more content

The Decade of the 1920s
Newspapers had once been the only mass communication & entertainment. The demand for new
products that emerged in the 1920s created a new industry, advertising, which enticed buyers to
purchase new products, and now that the radio had emerged, advertising was integrated into this
media outlet . Radio shows like Amos n' Andy, became a nationwide hit. The advertising industry
grew with the emerging industries of mass culture, especially radio and cinema. For the first time,
from coast to coast, Americans experienced the same shows and used the same advertised products

Movies, novels, automobiles, and new dances like the Foxtrot and the Charleston influenced young
people. Although contraceptives were still illegal in most states, the work of birth control advocates
such as Margaret Sanger increased its acceptance during the 1920s. Fashion that set young people
apart from other generations was the flapper fad, which was influenced by celebrities. Young
women shocked the previous generation by wearing dresses hemmed at the knee, bobbing their hair,
smoking cigarettes, and driving cars. Additionally, there were many religious issues arose during
this decade. Division among Protestants reflected the tensions in society between the traditional
values of rural areas and the modern city life. The evolving role of women, the Social Gospel
movement, and science caused many Protestants to redefine their faith. Modernists took a historical

evolution without abandoning their religious faith. Protestant preachers in rural areas condemned the
modernists and taught that every word in the bible must be accepted as literally true. A key point in

A Two-Decade Crusade
The author, Robert O'Harrow Jr., wrote "A Two–Decade Crusade by Conservative Charities Fueled
Trump's Exit from Paris Climate Accord", an article for The Washington Post.
His reason was to inform the public on a person who had influence on President Trump's decision to
pull out of the Paris Climate Accord.
The facts of this article is that a man named Myron Ebell was the leader of a foundation that
persuaded Trump to pull out of the Accord. For nearly two decades, he worked for the Cooler Heads
Coalition, a group centered around the purpose to put doubt into people's minds about the dangers of
global warming. From coal and oil companies, the group received $11 million in donations. Edell

This article, coming from a relatively liberal news source, is mildly slanted. The audience of the
article would be those who are liberal as it informs the reader of what the people were like that
influenced Trump in his decisions. Concerning Trump, liberals tend to care more about who takes a
part in his decisions and actions and this is more fitted to their needs.
While lacking extreme bias, this article has spin. One example from the article is when while the
Competitive Enterprise Institute was working to save the jobs here in America by keeping the coal
mining industry, the group was also given $11 million in donations. After a disaster in 2010
resulting in the death of 29 miners, it is should not be a surprise that Ebell continued to work for
companies that supported jobs in the coal industry. He was working for a company that was being
given millions in donations by companies whose jobs were at risk during Obama's attempt to rid the
United States of its coal industry.
There are no stated opinions in the article since this article was mostly factual.
There was bias in this article, specifically geared more towards liberals and showing a lot of
negatives about the kinds of groups he has previously worked for and the companies and ideas he
has strived for, a lot of which liberals are against.

Decade Of The Brain Essay
The human brain has been largely a topic of discussion in recent decades, so much so that the 1990s
became known as the "Decade of the Brain". This is due to the extensive amount of research able to
be conducted due to advancing technology; however there still remains debate on many aspects of
thought, cognition, and overall consciousness that we see as being alive and human. Though many
answers remain shrouded in mystery, scientists are able to deduce one piece of important
information: neurotransmitters play a vital role in emotions and mood felt from person to person.
These chemicals, when put blatantly, are responsible for how we feel and think on a daily basis.
Essentially these neurotransmitters define who we are as individuals because they give the ability to
feel and react. This process is not always a perfect science at times though, and as researchers are
finding out, that these immensely important chemicals can also cause harm alongside all the benefits
they bring to a person's process of thought.

The Defining Decade
The Defining Decade was one of the most unique and informative books I have ever read. Using this
book in relation to my life, I have gained a lot of acumen on how there are a lot of advantages in
your twenties and if you do not take advantage of them now, there will be consequences in the
future. One point that made a lasting impression on me was the topic on "weak ties." Meg Jay says,
"Weak ties feel too different or in some cases, literally too far away to be close friends. But thats the
point. Because they're not just figures in an already ingrown cluster, weak ties gives us access to
something fresh. They know things and people that we don't know." (21) This is a very accurate
statement because networking leads to opportunities that cannot be seen unless you act and take
advantage of it. "Perhaps the single best thing we can do to make our own luck in our twenties is to
say yes to our weak ties or give them a reason to say yes to us." (31) Most people stay in their ...

Communism today isn't fear as is was in the late 1917s, where many people feared recent
immigrants and dissidents, particularly those who embraced communist, socialist, or anarchist
ideology. This supports what the author states on the impact that communism had during that time.
It seems that during this time people were not innocent until proven guilt as all American's are today
when accused of a crime. they were just automatically guilty and punished for what they were
accused of being. A chief architect admitted that the Red Scare was "a conspiracy so immense and
an infamy so black as to dwarf any previous venture in the history of man." Robert's point in using
this is to show that some people believed that what McCarthy was doing was an accusation that got

The Sixties : The Decade Of Cultural Revolution
The sixties. The decade of cultural revolution. The decade which explored new beginnings when
experimenting with drugs, music, and innocence. However, this decade was not just an innocent
utopia, as the sixties was also the decade of racism, and violence. As many important events
occurred during this era, one of the most dramatic events which took place at the beginning of the
sixties, and changed the way society acted against racism, was the death of fourteen year old
African–American, Emmett Till, in 1955. Till's death and trial can be seen to have a remarkable
comparison to Tom Robinson, who was falsely accused of rape in Harper Lee's novel To Kill a
Mocking Bird. As the beginning of the sixties was the start of new beginnings and the baby boom,
it was also the start of a fight for equality as the death of young Emmett Till made many rethink the
idea of racism. In 1955, Till, along with a group of other teenagers, entered Bryant's Grocery and
Meat Market, in Mississippi, after a long hot day of picking cotton. What actually happened inside
the market will never be known, however, the other's that he was with reported that Till flirted with

That apart, even though the presses will be covered under a three year warranty, in case there is

Some positives for this supplier are that it will help us in commissioning and in case of any major
breakdown, Merakuri promises us next day service, as the company has a distributor located in
Regina. This in itself increases our confidence, as we know that Merakuri is a big enough fish to
have its distributor in Canada.
The rookie, Pnutype – A total novice in the market, this company utilizes state of art technology.
The technology is so good that it produces excellent results. If Pnutype presses are acquired, it will
give our company an edge over our competitors.
There are a few drawbacks to Pnutype and its presses. This company has been making presses for
only two and a half years. Among all of the prospective suppliers for the new presses, Pnutype has
no proximal presence. Its closest presence is in the United States. Considering our top management
being high level of cost consciousness, Pnutype presses are, by far, the most expensive option.
It, however, has the reputation of its presses requiring zero maintenance. One company that uses
Pnutype presses provided this feedback.

The Deficit And Its Effect On The Next Decade
*As the day goes by almost never–ending so to will the U.S. budget continually growing. However,
in the previous years the deficit has sharply declined from one year to the next. Specifically, in 2014,
the deficit in total, was 514 billion (2014). Yes, 514 billion dollars is unbelievable, yet this number is
surprisingly less than what the United States had previous to new laws being implemented.
Specifically, in 2009, the deficit was 1.4 trillion dollars (2014). This trend is highly permissible,
however is this decline something that we may expect to occur in the next decade. Unfortunately, as
the Congressional Budget Office states, "Under current law, deficits will drop through 2015 but rise
thereafter, boosting the already high federal debt, CBO projects. Economic growth will be solid in
the near term, but unemployment will not drop below 6.0 percent until 2017" (2014). With the
aforementioned statement, what will the deficit impact in the next decade? Feasibly one may
conclude that when the deficit rises, so may other portions. Particularly, the size of the economy will
open–endedly flourish, with this so will spending. Unnervingly, spending will grow more rapidly
than the GDP as the age of our population grows, so will their contributions to the economy. These
contributions as the CBO states are, "the expansion of federal subsidies for health insurance, rising

A Decade In Fear Analysis
Sam Roberts, the New York Times journalist, published an article in 2010 notably named "A Decade

afraid of other Americans due to the fear of Communism after World War II. During the age of
McCarthyism, many Americans would not associate themselves with "Un–American" activities,
Americans were too paranoid that any American could be a Communist. This brought the issue of
being addressed and labeled as a Communist which created the potential of never being employed or

The Decade Of The 1920's
The Roaring Twenties Underneath the façade of dancing and parties, the decade of the 1920s was a
violent clash of culture between the conservative Protestants mostly from rural, small town America
and the liberal, modern city dwellers. The liberals embraced and celebrated their newfound
freedoms, such as sexual liberation, while the conservatives tried desperately to hold onto their
traditional religious standards. The World War sent many Americans abroad for the first time and
blacks were introduced to foreign societies where they were equal to whites. The post–war years
saw mass immigration, which brought new religions and cultures to America. Prohibition became
law, and failed miserably to produce the moral society its supporters had predicted. While this was a
time of economic prosperity, the inability of the conservatives and the liberals to reach a common
ground on moral issues provided a backdrop for the instability and social ... Show more content on

More women began to enroll in college and sought employment outside the home. Fashion trends
began to change and the well–dressed, stylish woman of the 1920s sported short hair, knee–length
dresses worn with stockings, and lipstick. It became socially acceptable for women to smoke
cigarettes and drink alcohol at cocktail parties, behaviors previously reserved for men or women of
questionable morals. Dancing among respectable women became provocative and sexual. As
relationships between men and women became more casual, premarital sex and adultery became
more common among well–educated women (textbook page 561). Conservative Americans were
outraged at this decline in moral values and placed a large part of the blame on the media. Books,
magazines, music and movies exposed America's youth to new ideas about sexuality and validated
their pursuit of pleasure. Those who held to traditional, conservative values were unable to constrain

1920's Decade
The "Roaring Twenties", the "Jazz Age", the decade that went from "Boom to Bust", whatever you
call it, the 1920s is known as a time of prosperity, optimism, and opportunity. At a glance the
twenties could easily be considered the most influential decade in history. From the newly modified
fashion trends and the developing music industry, to the life changing scientific and technological
advancements, the 1920s was a time of constant change. Government rulings, like the 18th and 19th
Amendments and the Prohibition Act, worked to quickly dictate the direction society was headed.

She was given the name 'Flapper'. Flappers were the new and improved version of the independent,
futuristic woman. But, rather subversively, many from the 20s would disagree; saying they were
more accurately known as the downfall of mankind. Either way, flappers had unique look,
characterized by their short dresses, bobbed hair, long necklaces, silk stocking, and excessiveness in
every other aspect of fashion ("The 1920s." gale). Often times, they were even seen smoking
cigarettes, which were renamed "torches of freedom" to symbolize the new beginning women were
creating for themselves (Digital History). As they passed the time of their debut, flappers became
commonly known for reputing all orthodox norms originally associated with their gender. Prior to
the flapper movement women wore ankle length skirts and dresses, gloves on Sundays, and hats
covering their long hair. Now, even the old swimsuits were being replaced by the new one piece
swimsuit. An excerpt from a 1922 newspaper article titled Flappers Upheld By This Minister states,
"The short dresses of the young girls commonly called flappers have almost become the usual thing
now, and have lost much of the suggestiveness they were said to have at first. The practice has lost
much of the element of newness which offends our naturally conservative selves. That is where
most of our horror at

The Sixth Decade By Jonathan Schell

  • 1. The Sixth Decade By Jonathan Schell GS 435 Book Review The Seventh Decade by Jonathan Schell By: Jordan Petruska Professor Tom Deligiannis Friday October 9, 2015 The nuclear bomb is an interesting phenomenon that has captured the fascination of scholars, academics, politicians, and the media to bring curiosity and fear together. The first and only use of nuclear weapons occurred in 1945 during the Second World War, wiping out over 200,000 Japanese civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nuclear bombs, were now viewed as the number one threat that could potentially destroy our planet and the human race. Since 1945 nuclear weapons have since been a strong threat that has imposed a psychological anxiety for world leaders as this threat has expanded to fifty countries with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third and final proposal is taking greater action on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty to confirm all nations are on the same playing field to dismantle nuclear weaponry. I plan on providing updated analysis in these issues as well. The Seventh Decade was written in 2007 and a lot has gone on since then in regards to nuclear activity and I plan on making it clear to the reader where the U.S. and the rest of the world stands. It has been seventy years since the last military nuclear bomb was successfully executed and many of us feel that nuclear threats have decedent or vanished, but Schell informs us that they are full of life. The Seventh Decade examines how the nuclear bomb has continued to cast a dark shadow over global politics and has advocated for the non–proliferation of nuclear weapons. The book takes on a robust roadmap to a nuclear bomb free world that looks at the historical dark uncertainties of the Cold War, where the odds of a nuclear attack were extremely high during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis to the spread of nuclear knowledge and technology in the 1990s to unstable nations like Iraq and Pakistan, increasing the risk and fear of a nuclear war. Schell brings up some important foundational questions like what can be done? Where are we heading? Why has the nuclear threat been revived? The Seventh Decade calls into question for a global debate to end nuclear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Pros And Cons Of 1950s Decade I agree with the author on even though 1950s get more votes compared to other decades, however, it still have a lot of mixed pros and cons. The 1950s sound like a great decade for many family to have a better life because of better economy. However, there still a lot of sexism and racism which cause the decade sound like a nightmare for an Asian girl like me. The 1950s decade is not a good decade to live in even though it have a lot things that help family to have a better life. For example, the author give the reader some statistics : " In Philadelphia, for example, the City of Brotherly Love, there were more than 200 racial incidents over housing in the first six months of 1950s alone" (40). It is hard to even find a place to live during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that, the only people that have a better life and find this decade is a good decade to live in will be mostly White people. During this time racism is a very large problem. Because of these problems many "others" have a difficult time to find a job, a place to live, and even have to deal with others people bias and bad treatments. An example, "The Federal Housing Authority..., refused to insure homes in all–black or in racially mixed neighborhoods" (40). This means that, there were a lot of government benefits got created only to help out the White people. Compared to today, people with different races can receive many more benefits than when they were live in 1950. Even though, racism still a great problem in this decade, and people with color skins will have a difficult time to survive in this decade. Still, this time can be count as one of the most peaceful time for people with different races. This due to how some people are defined as "others", but there is only a little violent happen, "...individual homicide rates fell to almost half the levels of the 1930s" (34). Racism will still there no matter how much times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Music in the 1940s was mainly built around the jazz and big band styles that were popular during the day. It was during this decade that artists like Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra began to bloom into true musicians. Our first decade is: the 40's! 50's: Now we have the 50's, with music from artists like Elvis Presley, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly. It was around this time that Rock & Roll, R&B, Country, and traditional pop first became popular. The music from this decade reflects this time of cultural change: it's the 50's! 60's: The 1960's were a time of upheaval in society, fashion, attitudes and especially in music. In 1963, the "British Invasion" began, along with several other movements of music like Psychedelic Rock, A Capella, and Motown that influenced the diversity in music we hear so often today. • 7. Racism Through the Decades Should The adventures of Huckleberry Finn be banned from schools? In the past century many people have argued whether it should or shouldn't be. In many perspectives, this book taught people what it was like back then and how it used to be in 1884. Others believe that, the book was full of racial slurs and was just racist in general. The controversy between both sides of this book has had tremendous opinions spoken and has really changed others mind about it but if you really decypher the book it isn't as racist as people would like to believe. It shouldn't be banned from schools because students shouldn't be censored in what they read, especially if it been classified as literature. Stories like this help students realize what it was like for colored people back then and help justify their understanding of racism in the south. Just because the book has some vulgar language in it, doesn't mean the children should be censored by it. Theres a good chance that they are hearing worse just from their peers, at least when they read stories like "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain, they are learning actual history and making connections on how it used to be. If you were to wipe out this book from schools, it would be taking away the opportunity to learn about what Twain teaches in his books like attitudes in the south, new perspectives, and examples of satire. Twain was a very ingenuity author, which is the precise reason that his works should be taught in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Evaluation Of Dekalb, Illinois Development Plan Development plans are and should be a very complex piece of work. There should be a long process to come up with problems, goals, fixes and implementation strategies. This paper will be a summary and evaluation of DeKalb, Illinois development plan. It was adopted in March of 2005. There were both strong aspects to the plan, as well as areas that need much work to it. DeKalb's plan considers multiple aspects for the development of many aspects of the community. The plan starts with the "Desired Development direction." This was the beginning of their update to list off five broad elements for the future of the city including sustainability, continuous improvement, character, connectivity and cohesion. To follow these five elements, many meetings were held, a few large and many small, to get a view from a wide–range of people on what problems the city was facing. Multiple organizations were in these meetings such as the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce and the DeKalb Sanitary District Board. There were similar ideas thrown out by all groups that related to the character issues which include identifying DeKalb as a university town and the safety of the city. Influences outside of DeKalb include the Rochelle rail port and the Elburn Metra Train to help people travel into and out of the city. The population growth is one issue that the plan has to focus on. Much of the population growth in the ten years before this plan was due to an increase in diverse culture. Land uses from high ... A Decade of Change for Women Intricate female heroines set in a futuristic dystopia, battling for their lives and struggling to build a better world are components of the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. Beatrice Prior is a strong–willed, daring protagonist of the Divergent Series. Her life changes when she discovers that she is Divergent. Meaning that she has an unusual mindset that cannot be constricted to one way of reasoning. The government leaders view Beatrice, or Tris as a threat to society because of this. Comparable to Tris, Katniss Everdeen is the leading character of the Hunger Games. She proved to be bold and selfless when she put her life at risk for her younger sister Primrose. In both the Hunger Games and Divergent, the mighty female heroines are giving way to a new role for young women rather than the traditional damsel in distress. These two novels give women a voice, and express the importance of thinking for one's self. Katniss from the Hunger Games rejects the gender roles of her society. She is not a healer or a seamstress. She is a hunter, a role usually reserved for men. Katniss started providing for her family at the early age of twelve, after her father passed away. She declares that she doesn't want to get married or have children. According to Linda Lowen, "If even the smallest fraction of readers get the female empowerment message that intelligence, resilience and loyalty trump beauty, popularity and wealth, we have Katniss Everdeen ... In order to demonstrate how this process works ( and essentially provide the typical reference points needed amidst existing literature) an autoethnograghic epochal segment of the researcher's life is provided. This segment, anticipated part one of three segments, is situated decades that immediately followed the assassination. It addresses the establishment of an initial optic of the researcher's post–colonial missiology in its seminal formation as well as map of the intensely personal spiritual volition ( Yocum 2014) that as reflected upon guides the reader to a rich experience of sharing the author's journey. A Decade of Healing It was if I had a second degree burn on my soul. After the initial recoil from the assassination in an epochal sense I entered a decade of healing. Until 1992 and the death of my father, I was numb to the injury. I simply established boundaries like a band aid. To prevent the outside world from causing further injury, I joined the U. I couldn't refer to the matter clearly in the past tense. It was unlike typical grieving or trauma. It wasn't simply the death of a close friend. Nor was it the trauma of the violence. The Decade Of The 1980 ' S The decade of the 1980 's experienced a massive sorts of changes in economics and culture, this requires a certain analysis of the time and the way culture became intertwined with economics. The culture transformed and allowed the decade to be read as an experience of cultural products between culture and economy. Through the conspicuous consumption of the decade, the 1980s encouraged a cultural shift towards complete commodification (what is this) and interaction with the market. Ronald Reagan 's presidency throughout the decade created a framework for the people, and ultimately, the culture to transform. Expand this quote, you used it for a reason) With the presidential leadership outlining this impression, it creates room for regeneration and reinvention to occur within the culture of the decade. Through the implementation of Reaganomics, the American culture was reinvigorated with a new vision of economics, and even individuality. Reagan consistently addressed the American people and "his effort to restore the self–confidence of the American people and their faith in the traditions and institutions of the country was an important part of the national recovery during the 1980s" (Troy and Cannato, eds, 31). A new cultural space was created and the American culture transformed in something that was produced and consumed. Americans spent time learning to find their space under the new economic shift and Reagan 's confident leadership. The Sixties: A Decade of Rebellion Essay "Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans" (Kennedy 916). With these words, John F. Kennedy in his inaugural address in 1961 described the 1960's decade. This era in American history encapsulated a belief in the power of young people to change the world, a desire to help others globally and accept their differences, and a war that would eventually destroy all that America stood for. These events directly affected people's lives and impacted the country's society. People's lives were both directly and indirectly affected by the politics of the sixties. Society reacted to political events in different ways depending on what social class they belonged to. The tone of the decade was one of rebellion. One significant influence was the feminist movement and women's rights. The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan inspired many women and caused new women's groups to be created. Women all across the country began to question the roles they had and fight for equal rights (Horton 32–41). Birth control was legalized in the United States, and abortion was a huge topic of controversy (Holland 126). Women wanted to be able to procure abortions without the risk of complications, and many got abortions even though they were illegal and in most cases, unsafe (Singleton 2). Robert supports his claim by illustrating fear, describing betrayal, and comparing it to other US internal conflicts. The author's purpose is to point out a vulnerable point in American history in order to demonstrate how Americans fell prey to Mccarthy's propaganda. The author writes in a direct and cynical tone for an educated audience. I Strongly agree with Rogers. Mccarthyism caused Americans to turn on each other because it sparked and strengthened the fear of there being communist spies in the government. As well as inciting Americans to hunt and expose communists or anyone they thought to be communist and plunging Americans into a mass hysteria. Clearly Mccarthyism planted the fear of there being communist spies in the government. The evolving role of women, the Social Gospel movement, and science caused many Protestants to redefine their faith. • 51. A Two-Decade Crusade The author, Robert O'Harrow Jr., wrote "A Two–Decade Crusade by Conservative Charities Fueled Trump's Exit from Paris Climate Accord", an article for The Washington Post. His reason was to inform the public on a person who had influence on President Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Accord. The facts of this article is that a man named Myron Ebell was the leader of a foundation that persuaded Trump to pull out of the Accord. For nearly two decades, he worked for the Cooler Heads Coalition, a group centered around the purpose to put doubt into people's minds about the dangers of global warming. From coal and oil companies, the group received $11 million in donations. Edell and several other members of the coalition were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This article, coming from a relatively liberal news source, is mildly slanted. The audience of the article would be those who are liberal as it informs the reader of what the people were like that influenced Trump in his decisions. Concerning Trump, liberals tend to care more about who takes a part in his decisions and actions and this is more fitted to their needs. While lacking extreme bias, this article has spin. One example from the article is when while the Competitive Enterprise Institute was working to save the jobs here in America by keeping the coal mining industry, the group was also given $11 million in donations. After a disaster in 2010 resulting in the death of 29 miners, it is should not be a surprise that Ebell continued to work for companies that supported jobs in the coal industry. He was working for a company that was being given millions in donations by companies whose jobs were at risk during Obama's attempt to rid the United States of its coal industry. There are no stated opinions in the article since this article was mostly factual. There was bias in this article, specifically geared more towards liberals and showing a lot of negatives about the kinds of groups he has previously worked for and the companies and ideas he has strived for, a lot of which liberals are against. • 53. Decade Of The Brain Essay The human brain has been largely a topic of discussion in recent decades, so much so that the 1990s became known as the "Decade of the Brain". This is due to the extensive amount of research able to be conducted due to advancing technology; however there still remains debate on many aspects of thought, cognition, and overall consciousness that we see as being alive and human. Though many answers remain shrouded in mystery, scientists are able to deduce one piece of important information: neurotransmitters play a vital role in emotions and mood felt from person to person. These chemicals, when put blatantly, are responsible for how we feel and think on a daily basis. Essentially these neurotransmitters define who we are as individuals because they give the ability to feel and react. This process is not always a perfect science at times though, and as researchers are finding out, that these immensely important chemicals can also cause harm alongside all the benefits they bring to a person's process of thought. • 55. The Defining Decade The Defining Decade was one of the most unique and informative books I have ever read. Using this book in relation to my life, I have gained a lot of acumen on how there are a lot of advantages in your twenties and if you do not take advantage of them now, there will be consequences in the future. One point that made a lasting impression on me was the topic on "weak ties." Meg Jay says, "Weak ties feel too different or in some cases, literally too far away to be close friends. But thats the point. Because they're not just figures in an already ingrown cluster, weak ties gives us access to something fresh. They know things and people that we don't know." (21) This is a very accurate statement because networking leads to opportunities that cannot be seen unless you act and take advantage of it. "Perhaps the single best thing we can do to make our own luck in our twenties is to say yes to our weak ties or give them a reason to say yes to us." (31) Most people stay in their ... Jay has stated helpful career tips and intelligent points regarding time. The choices we make in our twenties affect us for the rest of our lives. You have to start somewhere and experience is what will count in the long run. One new aspect I have learned is to never procrastinate or hold back. Meg Jays continues to remind us that it is always beneficiary to take the first step. Never let fear or doubt hold you back. McCarthy a man who gained power by using the vulnerability of American Citizen in 1917 – 1920 influenced them that communism was unacceptable and made it so that anyone who was accused was punished. The New York Times journalist, Sam Roberts, in the article, "A Decade of Fear" published in 2010 addresses the topic of the Red Scare and attributes that McCarthyism used to turn Americans against each other after WWII by stating that America was infiltrated by communists. Communism today isn't fear as is was in the late 1917s, where many people feared recent immigrants and dissidents, particularly those who embraced communist, socialist, or anarchist ideology. This supports what the author states on the impact that communism had during that time. It seems that during this time people were not innocent until proven guilt as all American's are today when accused of a crime. they were just automatically guilty and punished for what they were accused of being. A chief architect admitted that the Red Scare was "a conspiracy so immense and an infamy so black as to dwarf any previous venture in the history of man." Robert's point in using this is to show that some people believed that what McCarthy was doing was an accusation that got out of hand and gave one man more power then he should have over citizens. As well as made every other major events that affected the U.S. seem small. The evidence proves that not all people agreed with McCarthy's opinion of communism. • 59. The Sixties : The Decade Of Cultural Revolution The sixties. The decade of cultural revolution. The decade which explored new beginnings when experimenting with drugs, music, and innocence. However, this decade was not just an innocent utopia, as the sixties was also the decade of racism, and violence. As many important events occurred during this era, one of the most dramatic events which took place at the beginning of the sixties, and changed the way society acted against racism, was the death of fourteen year old African–American, Emmett Till, in 1955. Till's death and trial can be seen to have a remarkable comparison to Tom Robinson, who was falsely accused of rape in Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mocking Bird. As the beginning of the sixties was the start of new beginnings and the baby boom, it was also the start of a fight for equality as the death of young Emmett Till made many rethink the idea of racism. In 1955, Till, along with a group of other teenagers, entered Bryant's Grocery and Meat Market, in Mississippi, after a long hot day of picking cotton. What actually happened inside the market will never be known, however, the other's that he was with reported that Till flirted with Carolyn Bryant, one of the owners of the market who was working behind the counter at the time, and touched her. However, in the previous years the deficit has sharply declined from one year to the next. Specifically, in 2014, the deficit in total, was 514 billion (2014). Yes, 514 billion dollars is unbelievable, yet this number is surprisingly less than what the United States had previous to new laws being implemented. Specifically, in 2009, the deficit was 1.4 trillion dollars (2014). This trend is highly permissible, however is this decline something that we may expect to occur in the next decade. Unfortunately, as the Congressional Budget Office states, "Under current law, deficits will drop through 2015 but rise thereafter, boosting the already high federal debt, CBO projects. Economic growth will be solid in the near term, but unemployment will not drop below 6.0 percent until 2017" (2014). With the aforementioned statement, what will the deficit impact in the next decade? Feasibly one may conclude that when the deficit rises, so may other portions. Particularly, the size of the economy will open–endedly flourish, with this so will spending. Unnervingly, spending will grow more rapidly than the GDP as the age of our population grows, so will their contributions to the economy.
