Introduction
English is the international language of business and opens up many opportunities
to non-native speakers. Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) instructors
provide a valuable service to immigrants in English-speaking countries. This free
online course introduces the essential learning theories and practices needed to be
a TESL instructor. The course details the needs of adult ESL learners, the learning
styles of students, and how to facilitate intercultural communication in the classroom.
Following this, it describes the activities and exercises that increase student
comprehension of the English language. Finally it explains how to prepare for and
conduct a lesson including creating a lesson plan, classroom management, and
conducting tests. This free online course is ideal for fluent English speakers who
wish to teach the English language in an English-speaking country. It will also be of
interest to people who are considering teaching English as a foreign language or
anyone who wants to know more about teaching and learning theories.

The Latin University of Panama, aware of the professionalism of its academic
offerings and the constant search for the formation of a highly qualified professional,
based on four keystones that underpin the educational model such as teaching,
research, extension and management, promoting the achievement of professional
experts in curriculum design in various disciplines that contribute to the development
of innovative academic programs to meet the demand for professionals serving the
country.
The following document has been prepared with the aim of having a guide to inform
the academic processes of the School of English. Note that the Latin University has
an Internal Regulation governing the academic and administrative policies of the
institution. Many of the outlines here refer to those regulations embodied as regulator
of processes.
At the end of these instructions they are included as annexes to the informational
flyer students, the registration form for placement tests, form sufficiency tests,
programs of English courses (levels 1 to 4), programs English courses for tourism
and other races.
This manual aims to establish guidelines and procedures applied to the management
of English language proficiency level Students, faculty and staff in the Latin
University of Panama.
English Coordination together with the General Secretariat, the Office of Curriculum
Management and the Deans under the supervision of the Dean, are the managers

Mandatory requirements for the handling of the English language just as established
by Law 2 of January 14, 2003, which it established the teaching English in official
and private schools the first and second levels of education and other provisions.

curriculum force level undergraduate and grade.

Article No. 1 establishes the compulsory teaching of English in the particular the first
and second level schools and officers education, with the aim of contributing to the
modernization of education Panamanian.
Article No.5 Teacher training centers, official and private, higher institutes of public
and private sector and universities official and private, include and develop a special
program training for teaching English so that its graduates have dominion of the
methodology for teaching the language in the
first and second level education.
Article No.6 The official and private universities will establish the mechanisms and
programs necessary for the applicant to any university degree, in addition to
Spanish, have knowledge of English or another world language necessary for
professional practice.
This arrangement will be implemented within a period not exceeding five years from
the date of the enactment of this Act.
-Executive Decree 511 of July 5, 2010.
o Article 89 of Executive Decree 511, provides in its second paragraph that for
undergraduate and graduate levels in their area of general training, They are
included in the curriculum or cultural subjects humanistic necessary for
formation of the student.
In this subject area which by law must appear and include plans career
exploration programs, in this case the subject is included English.
