Marijuana or Cannabis is one of the bused drugs in America and the rest of the world. Interesting
accumulating evidence show that the significant negative impact of this drug outweighs the positive
effects. However, the medical benefits of the drug seem on the process of chemical compounds as
compared to the drug itself. Medical debates show that chemical compound in marijuana are the
problem as compared to the plant. The said chemical compound affects the mental and physical
health of the persons abusing this drug. There have been traditional efforts to control the use of
marijuana through legislation laws, (Crick, Haase, & Bewley–Taylor, 2013). However, in the recent

one ask? The legalization of marijuana will cause these things stated and more. It will also lead to
lower prison populations, lower crime and increased tax revenue due to the taxation of an
underground market such as Marijuana. Some believe that Marijuana causes harmful effects to the
human being's physical and mental health and abilities. Although some people believe marijuana is
harmful, it should be legalized because it would lower gang populations, increase tax revenue, and

Since 1937, when the Marijuana Tax Act was passed, federal law has prohibited the medical and
recreational use of Marijuana. This act banned its production and use in all states. In 2012, however,
Colorado and Washington legalized recreational use of marijuana, becoming the first states to do so.
This was a very controversial decision on the states' part, and it created a debate between the two

All of these factors cause a negative reaction by the public because they begin to feel untrustworthy
of their national government and it makes even more difficult to enforce these rules. The United

The Cons of Cannabis Although it is a highly common defense that marijuana is not addictive, it in
fact is. Many regular smokers find themselves ridden with very similar withdrawal symptoms of a

that is almost 1 in every 10 people hooked on a drug that is supposedly "non–addictive." Legalizing

time is not safe, not to mention the fact that it is a gateway drug, often leading users to use even

When under the influence of alcohol or marijuana we are not allowed to operate a motor vehicle
because of our inability to react or make wise decisions. On the other hand there was a study that
was done that proves that people under the influence of marijuana where marginally less likely to

period, a bloody revolution was sweeping across Mexico. The Mexican revolution caused the

After extensive research on both sides of the issue, I believe marijuana should remain illegal in the
United States.
Some people believe that through the legalization of marijuana, our nation's tax revenue will
significantly increase. On the contrary, like many other drugs, such as alcohol and tobacco, taxation
of the drug will cost the nation money. For example, as stated by Marty Nemko, a psychologist and
career coach, knowledgeable on the effects of legal marijuana, states that "legal pot does not yield
tax dollars, it costs tax dollars"(Nemko). As with the taxation of alcohol and tobacco, tax dollars are
not increased as commonly thought due to the cost of dealing with addiction, driving under the

If one were told that the United States had all of the answers to their economic issues growing
within their country wouldn't people take advantage of it? Even if the solution was currently
considered as an illegal substance. George Shaw stated, "If history repeats itself, and the unexpected
always happens, how incapable must Man be of learning from experience. Mr. Shaw's wisdom
particularly applies to the current debate on the legalization of cannabis, and if it should be legal
state or nationwide. The present–day prohibition on marijuana is not any different than the past
prohibition on alcohol in the roaring 20's. The legalization of marijuana, similar to alcohol not only
means more money for the government, but also more revenue, jobs, and savings. The debate can be
