4. A bed and breakfast, often referred to as a B&B, is a lodging typically operated in a
large single family residence where guests can be accommodated at night in
private bedrooms (which may or may not be equipped with private baths) and
where breakfast, sometimes Continental and sometimes the full English variety, is
served in the morning.
5. A caravanserai was a roadside inn where travelers could rest and recover from the
day's journey. In the Middle-East, it is often called by its Persian name khan, ( .) خان
Caravanserais supported the flow of commerce, information, and people across the
network of trade routes covering Asia, North Africa, and southeastern Europe, especially
along the Silk Road.
6. Hostels provide budget-oriented, sociable accommodation where guests can rent a bed, usually a bunk bed, in
a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can be mixed or single-sex, although
private rooms may also be available.
Hostels are generally cheaper for both the operator and the occupants; many hostels have long-term residents
whom they employ as desk clerks or housekeeping staff in exchange for free accommodation.
7. A hotel is an establishment that provides lodging paid on a short-term basis. Facilities provided may range from a
basic bed and storage for clothing, to luxury features like en-suite bathrooms. Larger hotels may provide additional
guest facilities such as a swimming pool, business center, childcare, conference facilities and social function services.
Hotel rooms are usually numbered (or named in some smaller hotels andB&Bs) to allow guests to identify their room.
Some hotels offer meals as part of a room and board arrangement. In the United Kingdom, a hotel is required by law to
serve food and drinks to all guests within certain stated hours. In Japan, capsule hotels provide a minimized amount of
room space and shared facilities.
8. A mountain hut (also known as alpine hut, mountain shelter, and mountain hostel) is a building located in the
mountains intended to provide food and shelter to mountaineers, climbers and hikers. Mountain huts are usually
operated by an Alpine Club or some organisation dedicated to hiking or mountain recreation.
Mountain huts can provide a range of services, starting with shelter and simple sleeping berths. Some, particularly in
remote areas, are not staffed, but others have staff which prepare meals and drinks and can provide other services,
including provide lectures or sell clothing and small items. Mountain huts usually allow anybody to access their
facilities, although some require reservations.
9. A resort is a place used for relaxation or recreation, attracting visitors for vacations and/or tourism. Resorts are places,
towns or sometimes commercial establishment operated by a single company.
In North American English, the term "resort" is now also used for a self-contained commercial establishment which
attempts to provide for most of a vacationer's wants while remaining on the premises, such as food,
drink, lodging, sports, entertainment, and shopping. The term may be used to identify a hotel property that provides an
array of amenities and typically includes entertainment and recreational activities.
