3. Client Definition A client is a subset of data in an SAP system. Data shared by all clients is called client-independent data, as compared with client-dependent data. When logging on to an SAP system, a user must specify which client to use. Once in the system, the user has access to both client-dependent data and client-independent data. http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=32737895 In commercial, organizational, and technical terms, a self-contained unit in an SAP system with separate master records and its own set of tables. http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/35/26b011afab52b9e10000009b38f974/content.htm
4. MULTIPLE CLIENTS: The client concept of mySAP Technology allows you to map one internal or external customer or business unit to one logical system (or client) without having to install and administer a separate (physical) system for each of them. 5. Advantages of Multi client Sharing hardware and software reduces administration and support costs, and multiple customers can use the same application solution. Disadvantages of Multi Client In a SAP R/3-based mySAP.com system, the number of clients directly influences two aspects of the system – upgrade runtimes and the buffer directory structure . In terms of upgrades, more clients lead to longer runtimes. And more clients use more main memory, which increases buffer demand, because the client is mapped in the buffer directory structure. 6. By Default there are 3 clients present in the system . SAP Reference client (000) The SAP Reference client contains the following settings: Tables with default values These tables are independent of the organization units. Examples of the organization units No application data, that is, no master data and no movement data Production preparation client (001) The production preparation client is identical to the SAP Reference client, i.e. you cannot use this client in production processing either. The Customizing settings are made in this client. You Customize it into your test environment. http://help.sap.com/saphelp_46c/helpdata/en/7e/c8189452c511d182c50000e829fbfe/content.htm 066: Early Watch Client This client is purely a service client that enables SAP to access remotely the customer system with regard to analyzing errors and performance.
