This document provides an overview of how to navigate and use the Canvas learning management system for an English class. It outlines where students can access course materials like presentations and assignments, how to submit homework through discussions and Turnitin, and how to complete peer reviews. Students are instructed to read the first two chapters of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, retake the syllabus quiz if needed, and respond to five questions about the Harry Potter series for homework.

4. Using Canvas
Though this is a face to face class with a small percentage
of hybrid time, we will use Canvas for many facets of our
class together, including to communicate, see grades,
access course documents and assignments, and submit
essays and homework.
You should be able to access this course by logging into Canvas and
using your college credentials.

Use your college credentials to log in.
You will be taken to the Canvas dashboard where you should see our
course: EWRT 1A Plus
If you do not have access to this course via Canvas by the Saturday
before the course begins, please let me know.

practice posting it as homework.

4. Hit the “Reply” Button
5. Copy and paste your practice
paragraph into the text box.
12. Submit it as an Assignment

Peer reviews are assigned automatically by
the Canvas system.You may have to wait to
receive your assignments.
15. Once a peer review is assigned to you, a notification will appear in many
dashboard and course areas:
Option 1: View Your To-Do List on the Sidebar
The To Do list shows the peer review assignment. Peer reviews are
identified with the Peer Review icon. To view the assignment for review,
click the Peer Review for [Assignment Name] link.
Option 2: Open the Assignment
In Course Navigation, click the Assignments link. If you know the name of the assignment that includes
a Peer Review component, click the title to open the assignment.
On the sidebar under Assigned Peer Reviews, you will see any peer reviews assigned to you. The yellow
caution sign icon indicates the peer review has not been completed. A green check mark icon shows that
you have completed the peer review.
16. Q. How do I submit a peer review?
1. A. Start by going to "Assignments" or using the links below the class video
2. Locate and click the Assignment title.
3. Download the peer review sheet by using a link in the assignment window.
4. Click the name of the assigned peer whose work you will be reviewing.
5. Read the essay
6. Answer the questions on the peer review sheet.
7. Upload the document to your peer’s essay page.
8. Remember, when completing a peer review, other students cannot see the
teacher’s comments or their peer’s comments on the submission.

HW Discussion 1: In at least 100 words, tell me about your relationship to Harry
Potter:
1. Which of the novels have you read? Which of the films have you seen?
2. With which character would you most likely be friends? Least likely? why?
3. Which character would you be most likely to date? Why?
4. If you could have one magical tool/object from any of the books/films, which
would it be? (If you have never read/seen a book or movie, you can choose
from another source.
5. Would you be more likely to play chess with Ron, study with Hermione, or
play quidditch with Harry? Why?
