Prompt Introduction
Write an essay of at least 500 words arguing for the supplies you have chosen to take with you
into the wild. Present the issue to readers, and develop an argument for the purpose of
confirming, challenging, or changing your readers’ views on which supplies are the most
important for survival. You don’t need outside resources for this paper.
Essay #2: The Argument Essay Revisited: (three to five pages) 150 points
Please see the syllabus for due dates.
Prompt Introduction
Using both your in-class essay and the basic features of an argument essay, write an essay
arguing for the supplies you have chosen to take with you into the wild. Present the issue to
readers, and develop an argument for the purpose of confirming, challenging, or changing your
readers’ views on which supplies are the most important for survival. You will use at least two
outside sources to help convince your readers that the supplies you have chosen are the most
efficient for the job. This is not a minor revision, but rather an entirely new essay. Do not rely on
your in-class essay for more than a brainstorming document.
Essay #3: The Narrative Essay: (three to five pages) 150 points

Using The Hunger Games as your starting point, write an essay about an event in your life that

project will include at least The Hunger Games.

leadership, or to outsiders who may be able to contribute to solving the problem.
Use a minimum of three credible sources to support your argument.

Website Posts (Homework) 75 points
There is writing homework due before each meeting. Your homework is designed both to help
you think about your reading and to help you produce ideas for your essays.
In order to earn an A on your homework, you must do the following:
ü Complete all of the posts.
ü Post them on time.
ü Be thoughtful in your responses.
Your final grade will be figured this way: 150/26 =5.77 points per post minus 2.88 points for
each late post (48 hours after the due time. There are no points awarded for posts more than 48
hours late). Then, multiply the total times the average grade percentage for the quality of your
work.
Example
• Posts completed: 25 x 3 points = 75 points
• Late posts: 4 x 1.5 = 6
• Subtract the smaller from the larger: 75 – 6= 69
• Quality of posts: B+ or 88%
• Multiply the total times the quality: 69 x .88= 61/75 points or 81%
Participation 65 points
Participation includes doing all work asked of you inside and outside of class, maintaining a
positive learning environment for your classmates, and contributing to class discussion.
Participation points are accrued based on your in-class participation. To earn points, do the
reading, come to class, be prepared for the discussion or activity, and engage in both small and
large group discussions.
Quizzes 12 x various = 80 points
Quizzes are part of the online portion of the course. They will be available for you to take in
Canvas during the week that they are due.
Workshops 4x20 points = 80 points
There are two library workshops and two writing workshops. To earn the maximum number of
points you must be present on time with the required materials.
