The Shining as an Exceptional Horror Movie Essay
The Shining as an Exceptional Horror Movie
Stanley Kubrick a.k.a. "The Master Filmmaker," was born on July 26, 1928 in the Bronx, New York
City. By age 13 he had developed passions for jazz, drumming, chess and photography. In 1951 at
23 years of age, Kubrick used his savings to finance his first film, a 16–minute documentary short
about boxer Walter Cartier.
On March 7th, 1999, Stanley Kubrick died in his sleep of a heart attack. He was 70 years old.
The Shining is a typical example of the horror genre because it works by arousing irrational fear.
Stanley Kubrick uses step down imagery to make the terror in the horror, controlled and not too over
whelming for the audience, to make it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This scene gives the impression of man's vulnerability, when seen against the massive powers of
nature – a sense of 'the other' is also created here by the aerial photography – a dark power looking
down on the tiny 'beetle'.
Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) is attending a job interview for the position of a winter caretaker at
The Overlook Hotel, located in the rockies of Colorado, built on an Indian burial ground. At the
beginning of this film Jack conducts himself as a calm, charming man. He goes for the interview
looking smart wearing a collar and a tie, shaven and looking very confident. During his interview
the camera is films from behind Jack, making it seem as though someone or something is watching
Jack – a sense of the 'other' and there are some frontal shots in which the background is peach, soft
and warm. This presents a comforting, secure atmosphere.
As the movie builds up we begin to release that the Overlook Hotel is not just any other normal
Hotel but haunted although the horror is kept hidden from us we just see parts of the supernatural,
although as we discover through the movie that this is much more than a mere haunted house tale.
One of the things that makes it so interesting is that it shows a wide variety of elements that lead to

The Movie World War Z Is A Zombie Apocalyptic Horror Film...
The movie World War Z is a zombie apocalyptic horror film directed by Marc Forster. The movie
was loosely based off of Max Brook's novel of the same name. Overall, it accrued positive reviews
with a successful box office. Steve Persall applauded its aesthetic features, as it offers "vivid images
of what these monsters are about and what they're capable of doing". Matt Zoller Seitz, on the other
hand, argues that "[it's] as if someone watched the similar '28 Days Later' and thought, 'That was a
good movie, but it would be better if it cost $200 million.'" The critics generally agree that it is an
action movie as the zombies "twitch, leap, gnash, and destroy" (Chris Cabin Slant Magazine). But
they disagree on the appropriate rating and whether the film was, overall, satisfying in producing
something original. It is balanced in violence and carnage, but keeps it friendly and "evades images
of blood and gore" (Chris Cabin). Its special effects and horror aesthetics give the feel of a science–
fiction horror–and–action film as they were meant to evoke awe. World War Z is a good film and is
packed with action, suspense, horror, and visual appeal. The action within the movie is very fast–
paced, and it begins during a Gerry Lane's family commute in Philadelphia. Gerry Lane (portrayed
by Brad Pitt) and his family fight to leave the congested streets that are filled with exponentially–
growing infected lurking about. Gerry fends off hordes of zombies as they navigate the supermarket

Movie Review : Horror Movie ' Alien '
Horror is a film genre created to elicit a negative emotional response from the audience by playing
upon primal fears. Usually, a horror film will entail many physical, but also emotional and
psychological, elements in order to create an atmosphere that is ripe for creating these negative
emotions. One such element often used within the horror genre is the 'monster', often the main
antagonist figure in the film. As such, the monster is a large part of the make–up of the given film.
The movie Alien, released on May 25th, 1979, is one such film that falls into this category of
monster–driven plot. The 'alien' in the movie took years to design and months to physically create,
and acted as a backbone, holding the movie together. To this day people know what you're talking
about when you refer to the 'alien', because of its creepily interesting allure, its ground–breaking
design, and because of all the spin–off's and sequels that it inspired.
Dan O'Bannon, a graduate of the University of Southern California, was the original concoctor of
Alien. While working on Dune, a movie that later fell through, he became inspired and started
writing a script entitled "Memory". This 29–page script would be what he used, after Dune fell
through, to start the project that would later be known as Alien. While he was working on the script
for Dune he met many talented artists but, the one that intrigued him the most was a man by the
name of H.R. Giger. In an interview O'Bannon explained his

Horror Of The Horror Movie
Weenie. That is the word that comes to mind when I think about myself watching horror films. I am
the girl that shields her eyes, jumps at the slightest jump–scare, and cringes at the tiniest amount of
gore. But contrary to what this previous information might tell you about myself, I love a good
horror movie. I believe there is nothing that can bring a group of friends together like a good ol'
scary film on a crisp, Autumn night. A film that I discovered last Fall was The Babadook, written
and directed by Jennifer Kent. This film is a psychological horror, meaning it uses different twists
and tricks to scare you rather than using creepy creatures or gore. The main plot of this movie is
about a widowed mother, named Amelia who is still struggling with the effects the death of her late
husband has on her while she is raising their son, Samuel. The antagonist in this film is the monster,
The Babadook, who is the manifestation of the mother's depression. This film has become a favorite
of mine because it uses a monster to showcase how scary a very common, real–life problem is.
Samuel and Amelia live alone in a small home in a quaint, Australian town. Samuel has proven to be
a problem child as he is always getting into some sort of mischief at school or at home. He also is
still afraid that monsters are living in his room even though Amelia tries everything she can to help
him cope with his fears but nothing seems to help and the failure just adds fire to her internal storm
she has. One night she tries to help calm Samuel by allowing him to pick out a book to read as a
bedtime story. Sam picks out the book 'Mister Babadook.' Obviously, this book tells the tale about
the real–life monster The Babadook and it scared the child so bad he just laid in his mother's lap and
screamed the entire night. This screaming fit drove Amelia crazy and was sort of the straw that
broke the camel's back to send her into her depressive state. In the days after they read 'Mister
Babadook,' Samuel blamed his mischievous behavior on The Babadook as it was beginning its
haunting. Amelia believes Sam is just up to his usual antics until she too starts feeling strange things
occurring in their lives. After getting rid

Horror Movie Persuasive Techniques
Are you in need of spooks? Do you need a movie to take that special someone to so that you can
look tough? Do you want to make lots of money but have no talent in scriptwriting? Well then, the
horror genre is for you! Making horror movies is easy and profitable. Just follow these simple steps.
Step 1: Make a villain. There are ONLY two kinds of horror movie villains: insane people, and
spooky ghosts. Using anything else is far too risky, and studies show that there is no profit to be
found in creativity! Step 2: Make some protagonists. This is the easiest part. Everyone knows that
the sole purpose of a protagonist in a horror movie to die. Don't bother putting thought into these
characters, as the audience will probably forget about them

Why We Crave Horror Movie By Kin King
The excitement, the terror, the feeling of anticipation. That is why the audience watches these
terrifying films. All of those emotions drive them to these productions. Even though they all know
before the production starts that there will be that same horrific ending. The "normal" horror film
starts off with a strange noise in the basement and one very curious person going down to check it
out, right? And it likely ends most with a terrible death. Yet, even though the audience knows it will
have the same end result each and every time, we still come back for that crazy rush of emotions
because that is what fuels our strong craving for horror. King wrote a very short and brief essay
called "Why We Crave Horror Movie", in this essay he explains that we go to watch these films to
fuel our cravings for horror. King goes on by saying that we watch horror movies to in some way
feed that part we hid away from others, well most people at least, the side we all hid until we go to
watch these films. The part of us that is in some way "Mentally Ill." ... Show more content on

invitation to lapse into simplicity, irrationally and even outright madness is extended so rarely."

Miss Caroline?s First Day Essay
Miss Caroline's First Day
It was the first day of school for many in Maycomb, including myself. I had just moved from a
college in Winston Country. Almost 30 years have past since that day in Maycomb when I first saw
the school I was to be teaching at. The classroom smelt stale after being closed up for the whole
summer, as I met my students who I would teach for the next year. The one child I remember most
had a trail of dirty footprints leading to his desk. The little horror looked like he was straight from
the pig pen.
After a hectic morning, the children were coming inside from the playground. The filthy child I
noticed in the morning, walked past. He smelled of farmyard animals. I can still recall his stench
now some 30 years on. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The filthy child rummaged around in his grubby hair to find the insect, it was a repulsive site.
As I got my nerve back I asked the boy who he was. He introduced himself as Burris Ewell. He
wasn't too bright. I asked him how to spell his name. But the imbecile couldn't. I looked up my
medical book to find how to get rid of cooties, before suggesting that he was to go home and wash
his hair. Burris didn't like my suggestion that the other students might catch them. He stood up and
glared at me. Only then I saw how dirty he really was. He was in dire need for a bath. There was no
way he was coming into my classroom again like that.
"Burris, please bath yourself before you come back tomorrow," I said. The foul little thing laughed
at me. He spoke in an uncouth manner,
"You ain't sendin' me home. I was about to of leave – I done my time for the year." I had no idea
what he was talking about. He spoke as if he had done time in prison for a committed crime.
"He is one of the Ewell's, ma'am," a child told me. This explanation was the second of its kind I had
received that day. I hadn't been in Maycomb for long and I didn't know the ethics of a small town. I
listened on to see what the child had to say. Education doesn't appear to be one of the Ewell family's
principles. It seemed that the children attend the school for the first day of each school year just to
satisfy the law.
"My third year in first grade this year, I reckon I'll be smart enough for second next year."

Horror Movie Influence
Do you understand why people die in horror movies? Bad choices? Maybe. Influence? Could be. Or
just downright foolishness. These all could be very true, but the more likely reason is they didn't
know the rules of a horror movie. They didn't know when to trust their body, or how to keep
themselves protected through the movie. Along with when to leave chivalry and humanity behind.
Though all of these are the key to survival, you'll depend on your body the most.
When in a serious situation the adrenaline in your body makes all your senses much sharper than
average. Trust those senses to guide you away from danger. Running is essential to every horror
movie. So you have to at least be able to outrun your pursuer, because if you can outrun them you're
more likely to escape. You don't have to be super fast though, using quick twists and sharp turns
could give you the chance to escape. Lastly listening to your gut is probably the thing that will save
you from the "could be dead" situation. The sense of dread or fear your stomach gives you is a sign
telling you "You're going to die if you go that way." It's true that your body will help get away, but
you'll have to defend yourself at some point. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which means you'll always need to be able to defend and protect yourself. Keep a weapon of any
kind. As long as it can inflict damage you'll be fine, but make sure it's not too heavy to the point that
you can't carry it around for long periods of time. Also sometimes to win you have to play dirty.
Poking or jabbing at you pursuer's eyes is enough to give you the upper hand. Take that chance to
finish them off. Never take your eyes off them. An enemy you can't see is worse than an enemy you
can. During the events of the movie you'll see that the "Hero" card is actually quite famous. Through
the progression you realize that protecting yourself is what matters

Alfred Hitchcock's Opening Questions About Psycho
How many individuals can say they created an entire genre? The short answer? Not many. The long
answer? You're about to find out. It's 1960 and televisions have forced their way into American
homes, bringing the art of film and entertainment to everyone in the comfort of their own beds. The
film industry was struggling, quickly plummeting to a label of "no longer practical" and
"unpopular." People didn't want to to leave their house after a week of hard work and get up and go
to a theater, when they can just stay in bed and watch shows on their newly purchased television.
Alfred Hitchcock. That's the answer to the questions posed in my opening questions. With all of the
previously acclaimed thoughts I mentioned, he put together a movie that changed the film industry
forever. He brought a thrill to people's lives that only a movie could. He created Psycho. The first
thriller/horror film. He was the father of this genre, that today makes millions a year as people love
the thrill of a suspenseful movie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After watching all of those, it's impossible for us to feel the sense of fear and suspense that had
people Oooing and Awwing in 1960. But for it's time, it was a one of a kind film, you couldn't find
anything like it on televisions, so people were forced to leave their homes to experience the movie
that everyone was talking about. So in retrospect, Hitchcock didn't just create a new genre, he's
responsible for saving the film industry as a whole, creating the movie that finally made people get
out of bed and away from their televisions to go

Zombies And Its Effects On Society
Zombies appear to be evolving not only physically, but mentally as well. Due to their adaptations to
feelings of sadness, love, and isolation, zombies have been rising in popularity. Their emotional
adaptations have extended as far as zombies having romantic relationships, allowing the new genre
of film, zombie romance, to peak the horizon and contribute to their prominence throughout history.
In addition, the effects of their popularity on society include studies that have shown children
obtaining violent and abusive behavior as a result of their exposure to zombies. Critics and cultural
writers assert that the physical characteristics of zombies, including their tendency to appear more
like humans, change overtime. For example, according to Daniel W. Drezner, "a zombie is defined
as a reanimate being occupying a human corpse, with a strong desire to eat human flesh" (Drezner).
In addition, other cultural writers such as Todd K. Platts claim that zombies are "corpses raised from
the dead and imbued with a ravenous instinct to devour the living" (Platts 1). Although these
descriptions reveal that zombies prey on humans and are known to appear like corpses, their feelings
of sadness, love, and isolation remain unmentioned. Though I concede the physical traits evolve
overtime, I believe critics and cultural writers often overlook the emotional changes in zombies
throughout history. Depicted in primary sources such as William B. Seabook's The Magic Island,
Mary Shelley's

Analysis Of The Movie ' Horror '
A movie is on. The characters are exchanging dialogue, while a tune is subtly playing in the
background. One can assume the emotion felt by the character based on the music accompanying
the dialogue. The role of the music is to help enhance the emotional experience while viewing the
movie. Sounds trigger the emotions deeper than just words can trigger. When a deeper, more
suspenseful sound takes over the scene, it is inevitable for a viewer to grow anxious for what is to
come.
Music is a tool. It is everywhere, and used to support and trigger emotions. Beats and sounds are
used to manipulate the listener. Music has become an icon for entertainment. Think of the iconic

Music is shown to have a profound impact on the emotional experience felt by a listener, resulting in
an association of music and emotion. The tone of a song is able to ignite specific emotions within
people, and often times, that feeling of happiness.
Musicality is like math– it is the same in every country. It is a universal code, which creates the
intensifying of emotions in human beings– one of which is happiness. Because it is the same in
every language, music creates a common denominator for people everywhere. When opinions differ,
and social issues change, music remains constant. It can be referred to as a science of some sort. As
defined by Merriam– Webster, music is the:
"Art concerned with combining vocal or instrumental sounds for beauty of form or emotional
expression, usually according to cultural standards of rhythm, melody, and, in most Western music,
harmony. Music most often implies sounds with distinct pitches that are arranged into melodies and
organized into patterns of rhythm and meter. The melody will usually be in a certain key or mode,
and in Western music it will often suggest harmony that may be made explicit as accompanying
chords or counterpoint. Music is an art that, in one guise or another, permeates every human society.
It is used for such varied social purposes as ritual, worship, coordination of movement,
communication, and entertainment." (Quoted in Merriam – Webster) Music is characterized by the
sounds emitted from musicians–

How Genre Conventions Are Used to Raise Audience...
How genre conventions are used to raise audience expectations in horror movie trailers.
'The word genre means 'type' or 'category'' (Teach yourself film studies) it is really important as an
audience member to recognise genres as then things become categorised and easier for them to
understand which is more comforting. Sometimes however genres are crossed and categories are
broken for example sometimes we have 'action thrillers' or 'sci–fi horrors' this is known as a hybrid
genre. This often intrigues the audience and draws them to the film as it changes their outlook as
they have no expectations for the film as they have never been exposed to this genre before.

Like Paranormal Activity, Insidious is also an independent film however the budget for this film was
a lot higher at $1,500,000. The look the production company gave to this film is also a lot more
professional as there are no home cameras and shaky camera angles. However this film does still
use unknown actors, since doing my research I have noticed that the majority of horror films use
unknown actors to make their film feel more realistic. Insidious is also based around the paranormal
theme which shows that audiences in this era are frightened by the paranormal ghostly experience
this must be working as insidious took in a gross of '$53,991,137'
(http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1591095/). Also Insidious uses children and a family in a 'normal'
home this immediately effects the audience as they can relate it to their own lives. The horror genre
has become more realistic like this as instead of using zombies, vampires and made up creatures the
genre has become more based around real life and what could actually happen as it affects the
audience in a more psychological way. Also using children in the trailer will immediately effect
parents as they start to imagine what they would do if that was their child and how it would affect
them which straight away frightens them and evokes unwanted emotions/thoughts 'I can speak for
all parents when I say the loss of a child has to be pretty much the worst thing that could ever
happen to them'

Post-Horror Movie Paranoi Our Attraction To Fear
Our Attraction to Fear Hiding under the blankets, jumping at sudden sounds and movements, and
sleeping with the lights on are all symptoms of post–horror movie paranoia. So if attractions like
scary movies, and haunted houses put us in such a fearful state, what keeps us coming back for
more? We crave the excitement that comes from being afraid. We react to fear in different ways then
we might think, fear can give us the excitement and rush that ordinary life does not usually give us,

Essay on What Started the Zombie Craze and What Kept Them...
12th Composition ––11°
16 December, 2009
What started the zombie craze and what kept them "alive"? AHHHHhhhhhh........! Imagine being
awakened by a soft, distance scream. Wide awake, the world returns to being silent except for a
racing heartbeat. Suddenly, a soft resonating moan starts to fill the empty air of the bedroom.
Looking out the window, the world is an eerie grey with nothing moving but the occasional garbage
blowing in the wind. Suddenly the horizon begins to change as a crowd of people begin to emerge.

Night of the Living Dead gave the world its first zombie and since then the zombie has not stopped
thirsting for human brains. Today, the new movie "Zombieland" has just been released into theaters
so the zombie is still going strongly through culture. Night of the Living Dead was a serious horror
look at zombies but society has turned a once terrifying genre into some humor. Spoofs like 'Shawn
of the Dead' and 'Zombieland' "has fun messing around with the rules of the post–apocalyptic
zombie movie genre" (Machosky). However the reason the undead have survived so long is because
they have broadened their publicity range. Not only does the world see zombies in movies, but
mankind must "watch out for Nazi zombies rising from the grave in videos games like 'Dead Snow'
and 'Call of Duty: World at War'" (Greene). Zombies have been expanded into music as well with
the Kingston Trio's release of the song "Zombie Jamboree". Even books have been used to spread
the disease, such as "at Borders zombie literature runs the gambit from Pride and Prejudice and
Zombies to Zombie Haiku" (Greene). In addition, David Lubar has just recently expanded the
zombie craze to elementary school children with his newest novel, My Rotten Life (Lauer–
Williams). This is a children's book about a middle school student who is also a zombie. Zombies,
once a scary menace only for the brave at heart, have become a friendlier topic for everyone.

Purple is the Leader's Image; the leader wears this colour with a symbol of The Tool on it. The Tool

theater people love to be frightened. Scary stories were told to teach a lesson or warn someone about
something. Horror movies specifically slasher movies do more than just entertain us in their way,
they also warn us to be aware of what we're doing or our surroundings. In most slasher films, there
are certain scenarios that have been repeated and copied from the beginning of the genre. Because of
the numerous imitations by other films in the past and the present the themes put forth in ground
breaking slasher movies are continually reinventing the genre and have added significantly to horror
movie history. The definition of a horror film, "is a film genre seeking to elicit a negative emotional
reaction from viewers by playing on the audience's primal fears ("Horror Films" (1))". In the
beginning gothic novels by literary works by Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and Edgar Allan Poe
inspired the horror movie genre. These literary works entertain us by teaching us about society or
human behavior. When the Lemiere brothers created the film "Spook Tale" in 1895 it was the first
telling of a scary story on film. It wasn't until 1896 when Georges Melies created the film "The
Manor of the Devil" making it the first horror film some experts argue. Often times there are themes
or motifs from past films that in some of the modern films may homage to. In 1932 George

Analyzing The Character In A Horror Movie
Have you gotten mad a character in a horror movie for doing something stupid like going towards
something they shouldn't? I think it's to build excitement, but I honestly don't like it. To me it builds
up anger, because what the character does in the movie makes them look like an idiot. Everyone has
something to say to correct the movie like what they should, shouldn't, or what to have. Everything
in a horror movie is to build excitement but there are somethings that are really annoying like the
things they do to get themselves killed like running the wrong way. If you were in a horror movie do
you think you can survive? Or would you die because you didn't do the right thing. If you were in a
horror movie don't hide under the bed because one, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe its because they think they can be heard but if you were in an horror movie and you could
hear the audience you should listen because you'll have a chance of surviving. Almost everything in
the movie is to get you out of your seat but sometimes that makes people mad because the person in
the movie is doing the opposite of what they should be doing. In a horror movie don't split up into
separate groups because the killer can easily pick you and your friends off one by one till there is no
one left. Have basic eye coordination because if you did you shouldn't be tripping all of the place.
Look at the chainsaw massacre dude he has a mask over his face which limits his vision so she
should be the one fall all over the place. He also has to carry a chainsaw, do you know how heavy a
chainsaw is because I sure don't but I'm pretty sure it's really heavy so he shouldn't catch up to you.
If you're with a group of people and your killer is a ghost or possesed doll, get a vascume and suck
that ghost up or if it's a doll like chucky have someone hold him don't and punt that thing. If you just
have common sense you can easily survive a horror movie but not many people in a horror movie

Night Shyamalan 's Newest Horror Movie
Although the concept of a grandma scurrying around on all fours during the late hours of the night is
quite unsettling, M. Night Shyamalan's newest horror movie, The Visit, just simply is not that
horrific. Be relieved! It is not quite as bad as some of his past projects including The Last Airbender
(which received a mere 6% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and After Earth (which surprisingly reached
an 11% review from critics on Rotten Tomatoes). Both were rewarded with overwhelmingly bad
reviews and had a negative affect on his career.
The Visit had a five–million–dollar budget and was filmed over 30 days as a result of Shyamalan
attempting to be "skinny" and work with under a time and strict money budget. He said he was
striving to "shoot fast and with a kind of leaner, tighter mentality" (Guerrasio). He may have
accomplished his goal, but his product was no where near reaching the standard set by his best film
The Sixth Sense.
Choppy found footage is the tactic that is used to document siblings Becca, who has a weird issue
with mirrors, and Tyler's, who is a big fear of germs, week long stay with their grandparents whom
they have never met. The cause of the separation is said to be a mysterious argument between Pop
Pop and Nana and their mother before they were born. It is left unexplained until the end of the
movie with the reveal, frankly, not being that exciting or monumental. However, it lingers in most
conversations causing Nana to have some pretty interesting

Movie Review : Horror Movies
Clark 1 Baili Clark Mr. Karwatsky Freshman Seminar, Per.1 4 May 2015 Horror Movies Why is it
that some people enjoy a scary movie and others think that they are too scary or gruesome? Horror
movies have been around since the 1960s. Some of those movies actually come from a story that
was made up to scare little kids. People would make up a scary story and the parent's would tell
their children the stories to keep them from doing something they didn't want them to do, but not all
of the stories are made up. Some of these stories actually are based off of a true story or something
that happened in real life and the characters were changed so that they wouldn't reveal identities of
the people involved. Horror movies, such as, The Nightmare on Elm Street, Jaws, The Mothman
Prophecies, and an American Haunting are all movies that are based off of a true event that has
happened (Chiller). The movies that were just based off of stories like Monster House, and Casper
were just made to teach kids a certain lesson. Like the reason for making the movie Monster House,
was to teach kids to stay on your own property because you never know what will happen or what
you will get yourself into (Monster House). The lesson from Casper is that you never judge a book
by its cover and that you can become friends with anyone no matter what they look like (Casper).

discouraged, which makes people feel disgraceful. The topic of debt and financial difficulties is
avoided in society because it does not like to acknowledge the fact that there are some people in this
country who are struggling to get by. It does not like to believe that there are people who are
superior due to their income and some who are inferior due to their debt. It is also not talked about
because it causes individuals with debt to stress out and get overwhelmed. As stated in the same
article, "Many students say they prefer 'just not to think about it' because adding money stress to
their academic stress is overwhelming" (Novotney 1). The suppressed feelings of envy and self–
criticism lead to anxiety and agony.
Anxiety is a feeling of uneasiness accompanied by feelings of worry and fear. While it may seem
absurd to associate a feeling of dread with debt, it is a very common occurrence, particularly with
debts due to student loans. As discussed in the article Monsters and Mortgages: The Horror Movie
as Prime Economic Indicator, "Descending inexorably into debt is similar to the progress of a
victim's relationship with a vampire: we move from a sense of fascination, illusory well–being and
imaginary plenitude to a horrified awareness of the steady, unstoppable diminishment of our life
force" (Leonard 3). Interestingly, the author compares the relationship of a debtor and debt to the
relationship of a victim and a vampire. In this case, the life–draining is done

Response Essay On 'Begging For Change'
Nothing good comes from something bad. This is the lesson being taught throughout the story of
"Begging for Change". Raspberry Hill experiences this with other characters and it helps to show
how much friendships and money are really valued. Therefore, Zora supports the theme with the
situation that her and Raspberry were put in. When Zora and her father invited Raspberry to lunch,
Raspberry digged in Zora's purse and stole a large sum of cash. Later at lunch, Zoras father gave
both girls eighty dollars each for their field trip. After this happened Raspberry felt really bad and
was too embarrassed to give the money back. Henceforth, her friendship with Zora became troubled
when she found out. On pg. 47, Sharon G Flake wrote how Raspberry narrates the issue. "Zora
hasn't mentioned the money, but she doesn't treat me the same anymore. At lunchtime, she sits at
another table. I asked her the other day what her problem was, wondering if she was really going to
tell me. She just said "You know" and walked away from me." This helps to explain how nothing

Special effects have become essential to horror movies because it has allowed for filmmakers to
incorporate more creative ways to make their horror movies more interesting and immersive to
viewers. However, it has also allowed for horror movies to become some of the costliest projects to
produce and have even allowed for some independent companies not to secure the needed funds to
continue making horror movies. This has caused for some people to oppose the use of special effects
because the increased cost of special effects has allowed for only the big–name and high–budget
companies to survive and not allow for independent companies to be able to compete with them.

It has allowed for viewers to become more immersed in horror movies because the improvements
made to the storytelling of horror movies have helped to make them more interesting and intriguing
to viewers. According to an article published by Mark Griffiths, Dr. Jeremy Goldstein said: "People
go to horror films because they want to be frightened or they wouldn't do it twice. You choose your
entertainment because you want it to affect you." With special effects, it has allowed for filmmakers
to contain more blood and gore in their horror movies to scare viewers. It has also provided viewers
a choice of what they want to watch. If a person wants to watch a horror movie more based on blood
and gore that strikes fear or a person who wants to watch a horror movie that strikes more fear to the
mentality of viewers, special effects have allowed for viewers to be able to better differentiate the
movies they want to watch from others. Another way that viewers have become immersed in horror
movies is due to the incredible realism that special effects have brought to them. According to a
YouTube video, authored by Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff Jr., founders of a special effects'
company named Amalgamated Dynamics, said: "If I go early enough when the film comes out
you're seeing with an audience of people that really love and appreciate that stuff [special effects]".

Horror Movie : Get Out As A Typical Horror Film
Get Out is not the typical horror film but is a horror film. Instead of the classic monster, ghost,
goblin or obvious killer, white characters in the film are the monsters. I want to compare Get Out
with stereotypical horror films. Get Out is one of the most profound American horror films that sits
in a category of its own. The focus on race in the film is horrific for many from both ends. The
powerfully blatant gender roles replicate the socialized gender roles that have existed in American
society for decades.
The movie Get Out is branded the genres of horror, mystery and thriller. Although it is not a
traditional display of a horror, it definitely needs to be considered a horror film. A horror film is

Jeremy is more of the hyper–masculine male figure. He is drunk and his aggressiveness, taunting
and willingness to break in the black men show power and control over the black men. On the other
side of the coin, Jeremy seemingly gets a little gay in the film. The same borderline homosexual
behaviors of white slave owners using sodomy as a form of power. Rose plays the role of the
innocent girlfriend. She is beautiful and thin meeting some physical appearance standards for
women but does not perform girly very well. An example of this is when she and Chris hit the deer
on the drive up to her parents' house, she doesn't scream or freak out as many would expect women
to react in that instance. Rose does not dress very sexy throughout the film. Rose does not comply
with all performances of femininity subverting societal expectations both black and white. Missy
has the lower paying job and displays domestic behaviors by decorating the home and when
concerning the servants (whom are actually Dean's parents). Her role is imperative to the Armitage's'
operation by hypnotizing the black people and sending them to their sunken place. She seems to
have control over Dean and Jeremy at times, and make fun of the lack of femininity her daughter
displays. Women largely are expected to fulfill obliging, emotional domesticated roles and the white
women seemingly meet these facets.

A Horror Movie Reasoning
A Horror Movie Reasoning "Why we Crave Horror Movies" is an essay written by the most popular
horror author, who works included Carrie (1974), The Shining (1977), The Dead Zone (1979) and
Misery (1987), Stephen King. The excerpt originally came from his book "Danse Macabre." "Why
we Crave Horror Movies" was originally published in Playboy Magazine in 1981. The essay was an
explanation of why King felt that people craved horror movies. He goes into great detail throughout
the essay and gave various reasons of he felt the way he did. While reading the first the that came to
mind was the 'target audience' because he is speaking to a certain group of people. Then 'logos'
because King is making a huge assumption throughout the essay, which came of very strong. Lastly,
ethos' because of the tone King sets in the essay, and 'pathos' because overall King has a purpose for
the essay he wrote. 'Target audience' was the first thing that came to mind when reading this essay,
because in the beginning it said that this essay was published in Playboy Magazine. Playboy
Magazine's target audience has always been adult men, mainly due to the content of the magazine
that extends beyond the literature published in it. Because it was published in that specific
magazine, you can make the assumption that King's target audience was adult men whose forms of
entertainment choices could be deemed as "thrill seeking". Secondly, the essay's logos presented
within a huge assumption which was stated

Is Jaws a Horror Movie? Essay
Is Jaws a Horror Movie? First, I will intend to take you on a brief journey through the horror genre
and the conventions that have been associated. Second I will show you how these conventions are
used in the film Jaws. Let's take a closer look at the history of the horror genre. To get started we are
going to start with the first era or as it's called the silent era. This era was based on monsters such as
Frankenstein (1910), Dracula (1912) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923). The horror was all
about the make up and the clever use of lighting, to add thrills. The first conventions were that we
see are the 'revealing of the monsters' and the use of 'isolated houses' where the monsters are based.
This left audiences feeling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Towards the end of the era we see excessive blood and gore, victims, violence and sadism and
finally torture, Saw (2004) and Hostel (2002). As I have already mentioned Jaws is an important
movie because it was the first real blockbuster, grossing $450 million. A common discussion is
whether Jaws is a horror or thriller, I am going to analyse the two scenes to help us decide. The film
starts under water with a shark's point of view of the ocean. Only the audience don't know it's a
shark, the music is un nerving underneath the water of the unknown. Then we switch to a calm
atmosphere on the beach with students gathered round the fire drinking, smoking and having laughs,
this is to show it is warm, safe and chilled out. We then reach the edge of the fireside warm, and then
introduced to the victims, the teenagers; this is a modern convention as they are humans not
monsters. There is element on the beach to show the beach is safe and protected. Spielberg, the
director introduces the first two characters, Tom Cassidy and Chrissie Watkins. The director uses a
close up of them looking at eachother, tom is facing the opposite side to the fire and Chrissie is sat
in the distance from the rest of the group on the outsider of the fire, there is also a fence on the
outside to show that past there isn't safe. There then is a long tracking shot as the couple are going
for a swim in the dark. Chrissie then dives in to the

Similarities Between World War Z And World War Z
World War Z is an apocalyptic horror novel written by Max Brooks. Throughout the novel several
citizens of different disciplines such as; scientists, army, men, doctors, politicians, criminals, and
common individuals tell their story of survival. In addition to the stories, Max Brooks analyzes the
situation in the world after the war and describes its geopolitical, social, and economical
consequences. The film War World Z is based on the novel World War Z: An Oral History of the
Zombie War by Max Brooks. The film was released in 2013 with Marc Forster as the director. The
film stars Brad Pitt as the main character, Gerry Lane. The motion picture of World War Z depicts
fundamentally the same as qualities with a zombie pestilence that voyage globally contaminating
individuals, harming foundations, and threatening the presence of mankind. World War Z: An Oral
History of the Zombie War and World War Z the film does not have many similarities between the
two Medias, but still have small similarities. The plot is different and majority of the characters in
the film do not appear anywhere throughout the book.
The first difference between the two Medias would be the character development. In the apocalyptic
horror novel, Max Brooks wrote Word War Z to be in a pseudo–documentary manner on men and
women who have survived the zombie war. Each story was told in first person; however, some

The Horror Of A Horror Movie And Me
A few months ago, I brought a horror film to life. The only difference between the main character of
a horror movie and me is, the main character can run. Looking at the real world through the dream
world seems impossible, but sleep paralysis can do that and so much more. The most terrifying night
of my life started as I was just falling asleep. I could feel my body giving in to the night and my
eyelids becoming heavy, however they maintained open against my will. To maybe shake myself out
of it, I tried to force myself to sit up; seeing how my legs did not respond to my brains request, I
attempted to try a simpler task, like moving my fingers. Nothing was happening, not a muscle would
budge. I wanted to yell for help but my mouth was glued shut and my vocal chords had failed me. In
less than a second I lost all control over my physical self. For all I had known, I had become a
vegetable for the rest of my life. My heart was sinking. As if things were not already horrible
enough, I began to feel an evil presence in my bedroom. When I looked up, standing directly in front
of me was a girl who was staring at me so intensely, it was as if she was burning holes through me. I
quickly recognized that she was no one other than myself. Everything about her was like me, even
the way her lips curved slightly downward. Her posture and demeanor, however, made her look like
she was demonized. Afraid for my life, I asked her multiple times if she was being possessed by

Our Zombies Ourselves Summary
Comparative Analysis of "Vampires Never Die" and "Our Zombies, Ourselves" In "vampires never

vampires, also using mixed vocabulary and expressions to explain a more serious tone. On the other
hand, James Parker uses the development of the modern zombie to explain the stereotype of these
creatures in his article "Our Zombies, Ourselves," while using more playful expressions to show his
tone. These three authors seem to have the same concepts while writing about these monsters, but
still disagreeing on some points. While there are some key differences in these two articles, they are
similar in many ways also. All three authors agree and disagree on several points, such as they both
appeal to more intellectual audiences, and they both write about conformity with the want to fit in,
while disagreeing on what they use to explain their monster's general idea. Firstly, the authors all
aim for a more intellectual audience that find horror stories entertaining. These articles were written
for The New York Times and The Atlantic Monthly, which are both papers for very intelligent
people. The New York Times and The Atlantic Monthly are both known for being very complex

Chuck Hogan use high vocabulary words such as "enthrone," "pandemic," and "archetypal" to show
the difficulty of this reading. This

Cultural context:
The film I selected was made in Malaysia and released there in 2013. According to the CIA's World

The Horror Movie : The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Day in and day out we find ourselves looking down at our phone to reply to a text or check out a

today as how we communicate relies solely on these devices. Just like our phones, our society
craves horror such as in horror films and books. One specific horror film that is famous to the U.S.
is The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, involving five kids that stumble upon an eery home. How would
this movie change if the cellphones we use today were such a thing in this time period? An upgrade
in technology would change this movie drastically by the ways and means of transportation,
communication, and distraction. The movie begins with five friends that are traveling and have
seemed to lost their way (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre). This is the first spot in the movie that a
cell phone, a smartphone to be exact, would change this movie. One may argue that transportation
and a phone have nothing to do with each other, but according to society today they do.
Furthermore, using a phone with a navigation app would help them find their way when getting lost,
but what if the smartphone was controlled by the cannibal family? More specifically, the cannibal
family could distort the route that the kids are trying to follow to lead them to the slaughter house.
While leading them to their death, the narrator of the navigation machine could make odd remarks
while giving directions or even tell them to

Nuit Of The Living Dead Evaluation Essay
This is the first evaluation essay, and it is in a book that the readers have read called the Nuit of the

the same question all their lives, which is this: "How do you understand your own identity, and how
does it relate to the communities you are a part of?" and the question remains unanswered to this

Loneliness, Paranoia, Fear, and Conditioning. (MoreStories102) Although the title of the story

My Favorite Story Moment
I'm pretty lucky, my favorite story moment happens immediately. The story starts with a child Oliver
and a woman in her early 30s Emmeline I think they are the most important characters to the story,
because their actions set up why the story is happing, and why it is episodic. The fear felt by first
Emmeline and then by Oliver helps reinforce the horror the show has and will convey.
The aesthetic choices were the dark stage which sets up the horror theme of the performance. The
gothic clothing, which brings a specific period of time to mind, Victorian I think. And the sounds
such as the chorus announcing the "curse", the heavy beats and lighting in the background, which
also helps set the horror feel of the performance.
This performance reinforces the idea that you do not need much to have a powerful performance.
There were two people, a box, and door. This important scene did not need a ton of props, a lot of
space, or a full cast, just us the audience and them the performers. The way the actors spoke, their
accents help me to be transported to the scene. The space between the box and the exit is also
important to me. All it took to avoid the "curse" was a few steps.
I think the thing that made this story work was the passion, excitement and cohesion of the troop.
The entire story 4 different "episodes happen in the same space with nothing but minimal pros to
transport us the audience to this world. I think one way to make the performance more effective

The Shining As An Exceptional Horror Movie Essay

  • 1. The Shining as an Exceptional Horror Movie Essay The Shining as an Exceptional Horror Movie Stanley Kubrick a.k.a. "The Master Filmmaker," was born on July 26, 1928 in the Bronx, New York City. By age 13 he had developed passions for jazz, drumming, chess and photography. In 1951 at 23 years of age, Kubrick used his savings to finance his first film, a 16–minute documentary short about boxer Walter Cartier. On March 7th, 1999, Stanley Kubrick died in his sleep of a heart attack. He was 70 years old. The Shining is a typical example of the horror genre because it works by arousing irrational fear. Stanley Kubrick uses step down imagery to make the terror in the horror, controlled and not too over whelming for the audience, to make it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This scene gives the impression of man's vulnerability, when seen against the massive powers of nature – a sense of 'the other' is also created here by the aerial photography – a dark power looking down on the tiny 'beetle'. Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) is attending a job interview for the position of a winter caretaker at The Overlook Hotel, located in the rockies of Colorado, built on an Indian burial ground. At the beginning of this film Jack conducts himself as a calm, charming man. He goes for the interview looking smart wearing a collar and a tie, shaven and looking very confident. During his interview the camera is films from behind Jack, making it seem as though someone or something is watching Jack – a sense of the 'other' and there are some frontal shots in which the background is peach, soft and warm. This presents a comforting, secure atmosphere. As the movie builds up we begin to release that the Overlook Hotel is not just any other normal Hotel but haunted although the horror is kept hidden from us we just see parts of the supernatural, although as we discover through the movie that this is much more than a mere haunted house tale. One of the things that makes it so interesting is that it shows a wide variety of elements that lead to Jack's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Movie World War Z Is A Zombie Apocalyptic Horror Film... The movie World War Z is a zombie apocalyptic horror film directed by Marc Forster. The movie was loosely based off of Max Brook's novel of the same name. Overall, it accrued positive reviews with a successful box office. Steve Persall applauded its aesthetic features, as it offers "vivid images of what these monsters are about and what they're capable of doing". Matt Zoller Seitz, on the other hand, argues that "[it's] as if someone watched the similar '28 Days Later' and thought, 'That was a good movie, but it would be better if it cost $200 million.'" The critics generally agree that it is an action movie as the zombies "twitch, leap, gnash, and destroy" (Chris Cabin Slant Magazine). But they disagree on the appropriate rating and whether the film was, overall, satisfying in producing something original. It is balanced in violence and carnage, but keeps it friendly and "evades images of blood and gore" (Chris Cabin). Its special effects and horror aesthetics give the feel of a science– fiction horror–and–action film as they were meant to evoke awe. World War Z is a good film and is packed with action, suspense, horror, and visual appeal. The action within the movie is very fast– paced, and it begins during a Gerry Lane's family commute in Philadelphia. Gerry Lane (portrayed by Brad Pitt) and his family fight to leave the congested streets that are filled with exponentially– growing infected lurking about. Gerry fends off hordes of zombies as they navigate the supermarket ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Movie Review : Horror Movie ' Alien ' Horror is a film genre created to elicit a negative emotional response from the audience by playing upon primal fears. Usually, a horror film will entail many physical, but also emotional and psychological, elements in order to create an atmosphere that is ripe for creating these negative emotions. One such element often used within the horror genre is the 'monster', often the main antagonist figure in the film. As such, the monster is a large part of the make–up of the given film. The movie Alien, released on May 25th, 1979, is one such film that falls into this category of monster–driven plot. The 'alien' in the movie took years to design and months to physically create, and acted as a backbone, holding the movie together. To this day people know what you're talking about when you refer to the 'alien', because of its creepily interesting allure, its ground–breaking design, and because of all the spin–off's and sequels that it inspired. Dan O'Bannon, a graduate of the University of Southern California, was the original concoctor of Alien. While working on Dune, a movie that later fell through, he became inspired and started writing a script entitled "Memory". This 29–page script would be what he used, after Dune fell through, to start the project that would later be known as Alien. While he was working on the script for Dune he met many talented artists but, the one that intrigued him the most was a man by the name of H.R. Giger. In an interview O'Bannon explained his ... • 7. Horror Of The Horror Movie Weenie. That is the word that comes to mind when I think about myself watching horror films. I am the girl that shields her eyes, jumps at the slightest jump–scare, and cringes at the tiniest amount of gore. But contrary to what this previous information might tell you about myself, I love a good horror movie. I believe there is nothing that can bring a group of friends together like a good ol' scary film on a crisp, Autumn night. A film that I discovered last Fall was The Babadook, written and directed by Jennifer Kent. This film is a psychological horror, meaning it uses different twists and tricks to scare you rather than using creepy creatures or gore. The main plot of this movie is about a widowed mother, named Amelia who is still struggling with the effects the death of her late husband has on her while she is raising their son, Samuel. The antagonist in this film is the monster, The Babadook, who is the manifestation of the mother's depression. This film has become a favorite of mine because it uses a monster to showcase how scary a very common, real–life problem is. Samuel and Amelia live alone in a small home in a quaint, Australian town. Samuel has proven to be a problem child as he is always getting into some sort of mischief at school or at home. He also is still afraid that monsters are living in his room even though Amelia tries everything she can to help him cope with his fears but nothing seems to help and the failure just adds fire to her internal storm she has. One night she tries to help calm Samuel by allowing him to pick out a book to read as a bedtime story. Sam picks out the book 'Mister Babadook.' Obviously, this book tells the tale about the real–life monster The Babadook and it scared the child so bad he just laid in his mother's lap and screamed the entire night. This screaming fit drove Amelia crazy and was sort of the straw that broke the camel's back to send her into her depressive state. In the days after they read 'Mister Babadook,' Samuel blamed his mischievous behavior on The Babadook as it was beginning its haunting. Amelia believes Sam is just up to his usual antics until she too starts feeling strange things occurring in their lives. After getting rid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Horror Movie Persuasive Techniques Are you in need of spooks? Do you need a movie to take that special someone to so that you can look tough? Do you want to make lots of money but have no talent in scriptwriting? Well then, the horror genre is for you! Making horror movies is easy and profitable. Just follow these simple steps. Step 1: Make a villain. There are ONLY two kinds of horror movie villains: insane people, and spooky ghosts. Using anything else is far too risky, and studies show that there is no profit to be found in creativity! Step 2: Make some protagonists. This is the easiest part. Everyone knows that the sole purpose of a protagonist in a horror movie to die. Don't bother putting thought into these characters, as the audience will probably forget about them ... • 11. Why We Crave Horror Movie By Kin King The excitement, the terror, the feeling of anticipation. That is why the audience watches these terrifying films. All of those emotions drive them to these productions. Even though they all know before the production starts that there will be that same horrific ending. The "normal" horror film starts off with a strange noise in the basement and one very curious person going down to check it out, right? And it likely ends most with a terrible death. Yet, even though the audience knows it will have the same end result each and every time, we still come back for that crazy rush of emotions because that is what fuels our strong craving for horror. King wrote a very short and brief essay called "Why We Crave Horror Movie", in this essay he explains that we go to watch these films to fuel our cravings for horror. King goes on by saying that we watch horror movies to in some way feed that part we hid away from others, well most people at least, the side we all hid until we go to watch these films. • 13. Miss Caroline?s First Day Essay Miss Caroline's First Day It was the first day of school for many in Maycomb, including myself. I had just moved from a college in Winston Country. Almost 30 years have past since that day in Maycomb when I first saw the school I was to be teaching at. The classroom smelt stale after being closed up for the whole summer, as I met my students who I would teach for the next year. The one child I remember most had a trail of dirty footprints leading to his desk. The little horror looked like he was straight from the pig pen. After a hectic morning, the children were coming inside from the playground. The filthy child I noticed in the morning, walked past. He smelled of farmyard animals. I can still recall his stench now some 30 years on. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The filthy child rummaged around in his grubby hair to find the insect, it was a repulsive site. As I got my nerve back I asked the boy who he was. He introduced himself as Burris Ewell. He wasn't too bright. I asked him how to spell his name. But the imbecile couldn't. I looked up my medical book to find how to get rid of cooties, before suggesting that he was to go home and wash his hair. Burris didn't like my suggestion that the other students might catch them. He stood up and glared at me. Only then I saw how dirty he really was. He was in dire need for a bath. There was no way he was coming into my classroom again like that. "Burris, please bath yourself before you come back tomorrow," I said. The foul little thing laughed at me. He spoke in an uncouth manner, "You ain't sendin' me home. I was about to of leave – I done my time for the year." I had no idea what he was talking about. He spoke as if he had done time in prison for a committed crime. "He is one of the Ewell's, ma'am," a child told me. This explanation was the second of its kind I had received that day. I hadn't been in Maycomb for long and I didn't know the ethics of a small town. I listened on to see what the child had to say. Education doesn't appear to be one of the Ewell family's principles. It seemed that the children attend the school for the first day of each school year just to satisfy the law. "My third year in first grade this year, I reckon I'll be smart enough for second next year." ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Horror Movie Influence Do you understand why people die in horror movies? Bad choices? Maybe. Influence? Could be. Or just downright foolishness. These all could be very true, but the more likely reason is they didn't know the rules of a horror movie. They didn't know when to trust their body, or how to keep themselves protected through the movie. Along with when to leave chivalry and humanity behind. Though all of these are the key to survival, you'll depend on your body the most. When in a serious situation the adrenaline in your body makes all your senses much sharper than average. Trust those senses to guide you away from danger. Running is essential to every horror movie. So you have to at least be able to outrun your pursuer, because if you can outrun them you're more likely to escape. You don't have to be super fast though, using quick twists and sharp turns could give you the chance to escape. Lastly listening to your gut is probably the thing that will save you from the "could be dead" situation. • 20. Alfred Hitchcock's Opening Questions About Psycho How many individuals can say they created an entire genre? The short answer? Not many. The long answer? You're about to find out. It's 1960 and televisions have forced their way into American homes, bringing the art of film and entertainment to everyone in the comfort of their own beds. The film industry was struggling, quickly plummeting to a label of "no longer practical" and "unpopular." People didn't want to to leave their house after a week of hard work and get up and go to a theater, when they can just stay in bed and watch shows on their newly purchased television. Alfred Hitchcock. That's the answer to the questions posed in my opening questions. With all of the previously acclaimed thoughts I mentioned, he put together a movie that changed the film industry forever. He brought a thrill to people's lives that only a movie could. He created Psycho. The first thriller/horror film. He was the father of this genre, that today makes millions a year as people love the thrill of a suspenseful movie. ... So in retrospect, Hitchcock didn't just create a new genre, he's responsible for saving the film industry as a whole, creating the movie that finally made people get out of bed and away from their televisions to go ... • 22. Zombies And Its Effects On Society Zombies appear to be evolving not only physically, but mentally as well. Due to their adaptations to feelings of sadness, love, and isolation, zombies have been rising in popularity. Their emotional adaptations have extended as far as zombies having romantic relationships, allowing the new genre of film, zombie romance, to peak the horizon and contribute to their prominence throughout history. In addition, the effects of their popularity on society include studies that have shown children obtaining violent and abusive behavior as a result of their exposure to zombies. Critics and cultural writers assert that the physical characteristics of zombies, including their tendency to appear more like humans, change overtime. For example, according to Daniel W. Drezner, "a zombie is defined as a reanimate being occupying a human corpse, with a strong desire to eat human flesh" (Drezner). In addition, other cultural writers such as Todd K. Platts claim that zombies are "corpses raised from the dead and imbued with a ravenous instinct to devour the living" (Platts 1). Although these descriptions reveal that zombies prey on humans and are known to appear like corpses, their feelings of sadness, love, and isolation remain unmentioned. Though I concede the physical traits evolve overtime, I believe critics and cultural writers often overlook the emotional changes in zombies throughout history. 'The word genre means 'type' or 'category'' (Teach yourself film studies) it is really important as an audience member to recognise genres as then things become categorised and easier for them to understand which is more comforting. Sometimes however genres are crossed and categories are broken for example sometimes we have 'action thrillers' or 'sci–fi horrors' this is known as a hybrid genre. This often intrigues the audience and draws them to the film as it changes their outlook as they have no expectations for the film as they have never been exposed to this genre before. However this film does still use unknown actors, since doing my research I have noticed that the majority of horror films use unknown actors to make their film feel more realistic. Scary stories were told to teach a lesson or warn someone about something. Horror movies specifically slasher movies do more than just entertain us in their way, they also warn us to be aware of what we're doing or our surroundings. In most slasher films, there are certain scenarios that have been repeated and copied from the beginning of the genre. Because of the numerous imitations by other films in the past and the present the themes put forth in ground breaking slasher movies are continually reinventing the genre and have added significantly to horror movie history. These literary works entertain us by teaching us about society or human behavior. When the Lemiere brothers created the film "Spook Tale" in 1895 it was the first telling of a scary story on film. It wasn't until 1896 when Georges Melies created the film "The Manor of the Devil" making it the first horror film some experts argue. Horror movies have been around since the 1960s. Some of those movies actually come from a story that was made up to scare little kids. People would make up a scary story and the parent's would tell their children the stories to keep them from doing something they didn't want them to do, but not all of the stories are made up. Some of these stories actually are based off of a true story or something that happened in real life and the characters were changed so that they wouldn't reveal identities of the people involved. Horror movies, such as, The Nightmare on Elm Street, Jaws, The Mothman Prophecies, and an American Haunting are all movies that are based off of a true event that has happened (Chiller). A Horror Movie Reasoning A Horror Movie Reasoning "Why we Crave Horror Movies" is an essay written by the most popular horror author, who works included Carrie (1974), The Shining (1977), The Dead Zone (1979) and Misery (1987), Stephen King. The excerpt originally came from his book "Danse Macabre." "Why we Crave Horror Movies" was originally published in Playboy Magazine in 1981. The essay was an explanation of why King felt that people craved horror movies. He goes into great detail throughout the essay and gave various reasons of he felt the way he did. This era was based on monsters such as Frankenstein (1910), Dracula (1912) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923). The horror was all about the make up and the clever use of lighting, to add thrills. The first conventions were that we see are the 'revealing of the monsters' and the use of 'isolated houses' where the monsters are based. This left audiences feeling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Towards the end of the era we see excessive blood and gore, victims, violence and sadism and finally torture, Saw (2004) and Hostel (2002). As I have already mentioned Jaws is an important movie because it was the first real blockbuster, grossing $450 million. A common discussion is whether Jaws is a horror or thriller, I am going to analyse the two scenes to help us decide. The film starts under water with a shark's point of view of the ocean. Only the audience don't know it's a shark, the music is un nerving underneath the water of the unknown. Then we switch to a calm atmosphere on the beach with students gathered round the fire drinking, smoking and having laughs, this is to show it is warm, safe and chilled out. We then reach the edge of the fireside warm, and then introduced to the victims, the teenagers; this is a modern convention as they are humans not monsters. There is element on the beach to show the beach is safe and protected. Spielberg, the director introduces the first two characters, Tom Cassidy and Chrissie Watkins. The director uses a close up of them looking at eachother, tom is facing the opposite side to the fire and Chrissie is sat in the distance from the rest of the group on the outsider of the fire, there is also a fence on the outside to show that past there isn't safe. There then is a long tracking shot as the couple are going for a swim in the dark. Chrissie then dives in to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. Similarities Between World War Z And World War Z World War Z is an apocalyptic horror novel written by Max Brooks. Throughout the novel several citizens of different disciplines such as; scientists, army, men, doctors, politicians, criminals, and common individuals tell their story of survival. In addition to the stories, Max Brooks analyzes the situation in the world after the war and describes its geopolitical, social, and economical consequences. The film War World Z is based on the novel World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks. The film was released in 2013 with Marc Forster as the director. The film stars Brad Pitt as the main character, Gerry Lane. The motion picture of World War Z depicts fundamentally the same as qualities with a zombie pestilence that voyage globally contaminating individuals, harming foundations, and threatening the presence of mankind. World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War and World War Z the film does not have many similarities between the two Medias, but still have small similarities. The plot is different and majority of the characters in the film do not appear anywhere throughout the book. The first difference between the two Medias would be the character development. In the apocalyptic horror novel, Max Brooks wrote Word War Z to be in a pseudo–documentary manner on men and women who have survived the zombie war. Each story was told in first person; however, some injections and clarifications from the 'interviewer'–a UN investigator. All the stories told in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. The Horror Of A Horror Movie And Me A few months ago, I brought a horror film to life. The only difference between the main character of a horror movie and me is, the main character can run. Looking at the real world through the dream world seems impossible, but sleep paralysis can do that and so much more. The most terrifying night of my life started as I was just falling asleep. I could feel my body giving in to the night and my eyelids becoming heavy, however they maintained open against my will. To maybe shake myself out of it, I tried to force myself to sit up; seeing how my legs did not respond to my brains request, I attempted to try a simpler task, like moving my fingers. Nothing was happening, not a muscle would budge. I wanted to yell for help but my mouth was glued shut and my vocal chords had failed me. In less than a second I lost all control over my physical self. For all I had known, I had become a vegetable for the rest of my life. My heart was sinking. As if things were not already horrible enough, I began to feel an evil presence in my bedroom. When I looked up, standing directly in front of me was a girl who was staring at me so intensely, it was as if she was burning holes through me. I quickly recognized that she was no one other than myself. Everything about her was like me, even the way her lips curved slightly downward. Her posture and demeanor, however, made her look like she was demonized. Afraid for my life, I asked her multiple times if she was being possessed by some supernatural ... • 62. Scout And Jem Meet Boo Analysis I predict that scout and jem will not meet Boo. One reason they will not meet Boo is because they are scared of Boo. According to the people in the town Boo looks very scary. He has a big scar on his face. Also they believe he is six and a half feet tall. He has blood stained hands because he kills animals and eats them. Boo has a bad reputation, he was in a gang. People say that he killed his dad by stabbed him with a scissors. Also he only goes out at night, and he looks into windows and stocks people. Another reason why they will not meet Boo is because he is locked in the house. The whole Radley family is very odd. They are not very social, in Maycomb Sunday is a day where everyone hangs out and goes to church. The Radleys keep their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Our Zombies Ourselves Summary Comparative Analysis of "Vampires Never Die" and "Our Zombies, Ourselves" In "vampires never die" Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan use technology advancement to explain the creation of vampires, also using mixed vocabulary and expressions to explain a more serious tone. On the other hand, James Parker uses the development of the modern zombie to explain the stereotype of these creatures in his article "Our Zombies, Ourselves," while using more playful expressions to show his tone. These three authors seem to have the same concepts while writing about these monsters, but still disagreeing on some points. While there are some key differences in these two articles, they are similar in many ways also. All three authors agree and disagree on several points, such as they both appeal to more intellectual audiences, and they both write about conformity with the want to fit in, while disagreeing on what they use to explain their monster's general idea. Firstly, the authors all aim for a more intellectual audience that find horror stories entertaining. These articles were written for The New York Times and The Atlantic Monthly, which are both papers for very intelligent people. The New York Times and The Atlantic Monthly are both known for being very complex reads, so people must be very intelligent to understand them. Authors Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan use high vocabulary words such as "enthrone," "pandemic," and "archetypal" to show the difficulty of this reading. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Movie Analysis : Penanggal Is A Malaysian Horror Film... Penanggal is a Malaysian horror film about a girl, Murni, who is transferred the power of the penanggal by her grandmother moments before the grandmother is killed by the village for eating newborn babies. Murni becomes a penanggal against her will regularly and kills women and newborn babies. She also uses magic to make a man fall in love with her and spits acidic blood on his beautiful fiancée when she comes to save him. In the end, the villagers kill Murni by setting her house on fire with her inside, as they did to her grandmother in the beginning. Cultural context: The film I selected was made in Malaysia and released there in 2013. According to the CIA's World Factbook, 23.2% of Malaysia's land is agricultural and another 62% is forest5. Only an estimated 5% of Malaysia's cropland is actually irrigated6, meaning that the other 95% is tended by hand. 16% of Malaysians today are still employed in agriculture16. Malaysia's culture focuses heavily on agriculture, much like the traditional Slavic culture. There are several kinds of vampire myths that can be found in Southeast Asia1 with a few being Malaysian – the penanggal, Maneden, Bajang, a polong/pelesit, and the langsuir2. In appearance, a penanggal is a floating woman 's head with entrails dangling beneath. Unlike the Slavic vampires who can be men or women, penanggalan are exclusively young or old beautiful women3. The intestines dangling below her head drip a liquid that causes sores when it makes contact with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The attackers are their neighbor's daughter, Annabelle Higgins, and her boyfriend. That night, Annabelle commits suicide while her boyfriend dies at the hands of the police. • 70. The Horror Movie : The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Day in and day out we find ourselves looking down at our phone to reply to a text or check out a new instagram picture that someone posted. Phones and the internet play a huge roll in our society today as how we communicate relies solely on these devices. Just like our phones, our society craves horror such as in horror films and books. One specific horror film that is famous to the U.S. is The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, involving five kids that stumble upon an eery home. How would this movie change if the cellphones we use today were such a thing in this time period? An upgrade in technology would change this movie drastically by the ways and means of transportation, communication, and distraction. The movie begins with five friends that are traveling and have seemed to lost their way (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre). This is the first spot in the movie that a cell phone, a smartphone to be exact, would change this movie. One may argue that transportation and a phone have nothing to do with each other, but according to society today they do. Furthermore, using a phone with a navigation app would help them find their way when getting lost, but what if the smartphone was controlled by the cannibal family? More specifically, the cannibal family could distort the route that the kids are trying to follow to lead them to the slaughter house. While leading them to their death, the narrator of the navigation machine could make odd remarks while giving directions or even tell them to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Nuit Of The Living Dead Evaluation Essay This is the first evaluation essay, and it is in a book that the readers have read called the Nuit of the Living Dead. The story had the readers in countless suspense, especially the part when the setting takes place at the time of the zombie apocalypse. However, numerous people have been wondering the same question all their lives, which is this: "How do you understand your own identity, and how does it relate to the communities you are a part of?" and the question remains unanswered to this day, until now. • 76. My Favorite Story Moment I'm pretty lucky, my favorite story moment happens immediately. The story starts with a child Oliver and a woman in her early 30s Emmeline I think they are the most important characters to the story, because their actions set up why the story is happing, and why it is episodic. The fear felt by first Emmeline and then by Oliver helps reinforce the horror the show has and will convey. The aesthetic choices were the dark stage which sets up the horror theme of the performance. The gothic clothing, which brings a specific period of time to mind, Victorian I think. And the sounds such as the chorus announcing the "curse", the heavy beats and lighting in the background, which also helps set the horror feel of the performance. This performance reinforces the idea that you do not need much to have a powerful performance. There were two people, a box, and door. This important scene did not need a ton of props, a lot of space, or a full cast, just us the audience and them the performers. The way the actors spoke, their accents help me to be transported to the scene. The space between the box and the exit is also important to me. All it took to avoid the "curse" was a few steps. I think the thing that made this story work was the passion, excitement and cohesion of the troop. The entire story 4 different "episodes happen in the same space with nothing but minimal pros to transport us the audience to this world. I think one way to make the performance more effective would have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

'The echoes rang up and down the spiral staircase, and a shadow same sweeping after me.' The use of the personification makes the shadow appear daunting and gives the effect of anxiety. The 'spiral staircase' demonstrates that it is empty and this is typical of horror as all visions are blocked. The direction to the red room is very complicated. 'You go along the passage for a bit...until you come to a door, and through that is a spiral staircase...to the end, and the red room is on your left up the staircase.' This long direction to The Red Room is like a maze. It builds suspense and tension because the room is hidden and isolated away from all other sources of humanity. It makes the reader ask questions such as, what is inside that room, and why is it hidden lyk this. This description to The Red Room gets the reader involved as the reader intends to follow the directions leading to the room. Many objects in room appear unusual. 'The queer old mirror at the end of the room' The mirror distorts the narrator's appearance and makes it unusual. This adds a sense of fear and terror in the reader's mind.
