Importance Of Life In My Life
Where have we been and WHAT HAPPENED IN ZIMBABWE?!?!? It's been too long and it's
completely our fault Much to my chagrin turns out Chindi was right it has been over two months!
Shame on us! Did you think we had given up? No, we will never surrender! We went live 07/11/17
with ambitious goals. Partially I was motivated to get started rather than stuck in the what if's,
how's, and logistics. The go–live was effective in prompting us to jump in and get to work. Where
we have lacked is in our consistency, then we have been beset with an onset of monumental life
changes that have caused us to come to a grinding halt. HOWEVER, there is a lesson, of course, and
our motto is "problems are opportunities". Where have we been? At the radius we are about
expansion and behind the scenes there has been tons of growth. Myself, I continue to work during
the day, as well as volunteer and coordinate community based events. In addition to that, I applied
for and was appointed to a vacant school board seat. Given that I wanted to perform well, and
increase my learning curve I devoted many hours in training to my new role. This was a detriment to
my ability to record episodes, do social media and blog posts. What I have learned/modified about
my behavior is spacing – doing all the things I love to do, but less of them. Being deliberate about
giving myself space. Also I go to bed earlier, and thus wake up at 4:30am, most days, which affords
me a lot of productivity time to work out and work

Hope Springs Eternal: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King
A wise man once said, "Memory is the library of the mind." All of the events in one's life, ranging
from birth to the present, are stored in this complex catalog of experience. There they remain
untouched and collecting dust until a time of need, much like the scores of books found in today's
libraries. No matter how obscure, their topics represent the various trials of life that build one's
character and forever serve as the most reliable source of the human psyche. The novella, "Hope
Springs Eternal: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption", is part of a collection of stories that
comprise Stephen King's book Different Seasons which was first published ... Show more content

At first, he has a difficult time making friends thanks to his reputation of being "a snob and a
coldfish" (King 27). He is very different from the other prisoners, partly because he knows he is not
guilty and thus wears this confidence on his sleeve. It is the memory of his former freedom which
provokes this seemingly arrogant attitude that both helps and hinders him. Nevertheless, this
behavior serves as the very thing that first attracts the narrator, Red, to Andy. Not a man to be easily
impressed nor persuaded, it comes as quite a shock to the reader that these two polar opposites form
a bond. Red is able to see past what the other inmates label as "snobbishness" and instead takes
comfort in Andy's nonchalant approach to life and the tone of confidence that consumes him. Red
views Andy as a much needed breath of fresh air to his musty routine within the Shank. However, it
seems that their budding friendship is initially a greater asset to Red than it is to Andy. Although it
may help Andy begin to find his place, he is primarily concerned with his own well–being, which is
sustained only by his memories and not by the companionship of a stranger. An addition to this list
of survival tools is Andy's ability to keep his mind on the outside rather than focusing on the finality
of prison life. His capacity to do so separates him from his peers, in that he becomes one of the few
"long timers" able to avoid the characteristic walk, that in a

The Issue Of A Great Amount Of Money $ 4 Million
Introduction
I am a senior accountant working for Cape Tisbe International (CTI) and am writing this business
report concerning the issue of a great amount of money $4 million that has been paid to a PNG
government minister as "Consulting Fees" recently. In this report, I would like to identify the fact ,
the issues needed to be tackled, and then discuss the possible consequences derived from those
issues, subsequently I will offer some plausible solutions in tackling this issue in a long–run
development. .
Facts
A year ago, CTI signed a contract for farm machinery, worth $25 million, with Papua New
Guinea(PNG). Recently, however, when I was conducting the annual internal audit, I have
discovered some issues associated with this signed contract. As soon as I found something wrong
with the contract's accounting records I communicated with George but his answer has not
addressed my confusion. Soon after that I had a chat with my boss Gareth because it was my duty to
identify and reveal any detailed information related to CTI's financial records. after the conversation
with both of them, I decided to dig it further. Now I discover that the actual sale revenue of the
contract was $21 million as around $4 million has been paid to a PNG government minister as
'Consulting Fees".
I understand that the payment was paid to a certain person in order to secure the contract and
maximize the wealth of our company. According to the relevant regulations and rules provided by

Essay on Frank Darabont's The Shawshank Redemption
Frank Darabont's The Shawshank Redemption The movie the Shawshank Redemption, based on the
book by Steven King, I believe is one of the best movies ever made. The portrayal of prison life in
the movie is the best I have seen and a star–studded cast including Morgan Freeman supports the
characters and brings to life the everyday struggles of life behind bars. In this paper I will relate
topics from class to the movie and discuss information we have learned through out the semester.
One of the best things about this movie is its portrayal of prison life. There are many movies that
deal with prison and the life of prisoners while incarcerated, but Shawshank I feel does the best job
of giving you a real feeling of what prison life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the film the inmates used cigarettes as money, a way to get things in the prison, a feat that seemed
easily accessible in Shawshank at the time, due to the guards taking bribes from delivery drivers and
the inmates themselves. It seemed to me that all of Shawshank was corrupt in its ways. In prison
there are different levels of confinement and this was shown to play a big part in the prisoners life at
Shawshank. If you were caught in the act of doing something against the rules or in Andy's case,
standing up to the warden, you were sent to solitarily confinement for a period of time. In the movie
Andy spent two months in solitary with only bread and water to survive. This to me is a hell of a
way to get what you want out of the inmates but some have nothing to lose so even solitary does not
break them. One of the subjects that the film deals with is the idea of "institutionalization." The idea
that inmates that have spent so many years behind bars that they can no longer function in a free
society. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to one day have to get yourself up out of bed,
make yourself some food, and go to work in a society that has passed you by. After forty or fifty
years of inmate life you become depended on the prison it becomes your world, your security. The
example of this in the movie is

Why Who Won 't The Big Man Go Away? Why?
"No! No!" I screamed frightly. What does he want? How did this happen? Why is this happening to
us? Why won't this big man go away? Why can't he leave us alone? Why? Why? Why?
I looked out the apartment window at the the smoke filled sky, the barren streets, and flickering
street lamps three stories up then the poor bakery below. I ran my finger along the rigged cement
windowsill and sang a song "I was a poor man living in San Francisco..." The door opened and in
wobbled my mom with her bony legs carrying a red bottle of water, a loaf of fresh brown bread, and
two dark orange carrots. I ran to give her a big warm hug and almost knocked the groceries out of
her scrawny hands.
Then, I scrambled and opened up the brown cupboards for the only two things we had peanut butter
and jelly. "Get the plates out Jimmy," mom ordered. I grabbed the plates off the counter top and
brought everything to the table.
We each took a piece of bread out of the bag and spread the peanut butter till it was smooth on the
bread. Then took the grape jelly and slobbered that on and took a shark bite out of it. "Slow down or
you 're going to get a stomach ache" she stated. Ding! Ding! the doorbell sounded. My mother got
up, pushed in her chair and walked to the door as her steal toes went Ting! Ting! against the wood
floors. And then stopped at the door, she opened it with a gasp like she didn't expect this person to
be there.
"Momma, who is it," I yelped as I shoved my face full of the orange carrot

Finding Virtue and Vice in "The Shawshank Redemption" Essay
"Virtue itself turns vice, being misapplied, and vice sometimes by action dignified." That is a quote
by Shakespeare that could truly relate to the story in Shawshank Redemption. The main character in
this story is a prime example of a person who demonstrated virtue. After the murder of his wife,
Andy Dufresne is sent to Shawshank Prison, where the usual unpleasantness that one would expect
out of a prison occurs. Over the years, he retains hope and eventually gains the respect of his fellow
inmates, especially longtime convict "Red" Redding, who runs the black market inside if
Shawshank prison, and becomes influential within the prison. Eventually, Andrew achieves his end
on his own terms. While all of this was going on Andy Dufresne ... Show more content on

The plan that he brings together is a representation of Andy Dufresne's prudence and having such a
virtue paid off for the protagonist of this story by the end. The start of this was as soon as Andy
began talking to Red. When Andy realized the connections that Red had he asked him for rock pick
because he was an amateur geologist before he was put into Shawshank. Andy claims for the longest
time that he is just using the rock pick to shape the different rocks that he finds throughout his time
at Shawshank prison. Meanwhile he is actually using the pick to escape from prison. He admittedly
told Red that it would take 50 years to escape through Shawshank with the pick, so it really wasn't
worth worrying about whether or not he would escape or not. This whole thing shows how prudent
Andy really was. He never told anyone of his plan and just kept on going everyday. He covered
everything up and disposed of all the extra stone and seemed to have every facet of his operation
covered. Nobody ever saw it coming and that was on purpose. Even though Andy Dufresne was
wrongfully accused, prison itself is a necessary part of society. It is clearly a representation of
Justice in the world. It puts those who commit crimes and it gives them the punishment that is
deserved. In the protagonist's case, he was innocent and wrongfully accused so instead of the prison
representing

brain to not miss a moment in this movie because it would be amazing and it was. Every single
minute was worth it. I must say it is highly entertaining which distracts the audience from thinking
about wanting more background from the characters but not bad as a romance–drama–musical
movie. Like I said earlier, the first articles

Napoleon Bonaparte Comparison
Napoleon Bonaparte and Robert Mugabe were both dictators that maintained an iron fist rule on
their respective countries, France and Zimbabwe. In times of oppression and hardship seemingly
strong leaders take up the mantle of becoming what seems like a revolutionary hero. In the case of
Napoleon this meant ousting the dysfunctional rule of the Directory in revolutionary France. His
campaign for power followed a rule of a tyrannical madman by the name of Robespierre, who
ushered an age of absolute peril and most heinous of atrocities, murder. Countless of heads poured
down the French streets during the Age of Terror. Although the Directory followed Robespierre's
rule, there was little they did to help France recuperate. Needless to say France was in absolute
chaos. But a savior by the name of Napoleon stood up to rescue the French people in their time of
most need bringing lasting justice in the form of the Napoleonic code, religious freedom, and
education reforms that still lasts into present time. Similarly, Mugabe was once celebrated as a
revolutionary war hero in a perceived era of oppression by the British. Together Mugabe and the
ZANU–PF(Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front) emancipated the people of
Zimbabwe of their colonial chains of oppression in 1980. However, unlike Napoleon Mugabe
brought economic ruin, genocide, and racial injustice to Zimbabwe. Therefore, Napoleon was a just
ruler that did more good than harm for France but Mugabe is a tyrant that

In the film's final scene the two meet up and are free from their life of isolation, law, hate, and
racism. The film has some additional storytelling that I would like to discuss. The Shawshank
Redemption is done in chronological order, but there are some parts when the characters flash back
to earlier times in their live so you can understand what is happening in the film. This is done so the
viewer still has an easy way to follow the movie. The characters of the film face both internal and
external conflict. The internal conflict is should I continue this life when I know I am innocent, and
the external conflict is from the prison, the prisoners, and the prison staff. The film does contain
symbolism. An example of the symbolism is when the warden learns of his fate and his last
judgment by reading the morning newspaper of himself and the prison being corrupt. Additionally,
symbolism is used with the holy bible the warden reads; when he finds the hammer that Andy uses
to dig out of the prison. There is a passage from Exodus that is used to symbolize the warden's
salvation and Andy's escape. Also, there is a metaphor that I remember and it happens when the
librarian (Brooks Hatlen) is freed from jail and he takes his own life. At the same time he hangs
himself his bird (Jake) fly's away and is freed. The metaphor is that the librarian is free of his
lifelong nightmare of being told what

Robin Morg A Truly Inspiring Woman
Robin Morgan is thought of as a truly inspiring woman. When she was just a couple of months old,
she starred in prize baby contests and transitioned into modeling as a toddler. In 1945, at a young
age, she had a nationally syndicated radio show before she delved in acting where she became
immensely successful. Against the will of her mother, at the young age of fourteen, she left acting to
pursue a career in writing, having had the dream of being a writer since she was four years old. At
the age of seventeen, she published several of her poems in various literary magazines. She went on
to write numerous diverse styles of successful works and quickly became highly regarded by several
organizations. Our such organization, The Women 's Media Center, stated, "An award–winning
author, feminist activist, political analyst, and journalist, and a recipient of the National Endowment
for the Arts Prize (Poetry) with a host of other honors, Robin Morgan has published more than
twenty books, including poetry, fiction, and the now–classic anthologies Sisterhood Is Powerful,
Sisterhood Is Global, and Sisterhood Is Forever. Her work has been translated into 13 languages." In
the year 2010, Morgan was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Since that diagnosis, she has
dedicated herself to not only continuing her writing, but to "...applying her intellect and organizing
skills to Parkinson's research and gender bias". In her speech, 4 Powerful Poems About Parkinson's

Rob Parson and Morgan Stanley
1. Introduction
Rob Parson had recently been hired by Paul Nasr, a senior managing director at Morgan Stanley as a
principal in the Capital Markets Services division. The division had done very little business even
with its most important investment banking clients. In particular the bank wanted to improve
business with clients in the financial services industry. Parson was hired for his proven track record
in this domain, for his relationships with clients and for his energetic and entrepreneurial approach.
Soon after he was hired Parson started delivering results and played instrumental role in improving
Morgan Stanley's ranking and market share. He got first time business with several clients and

4. Resilience and Assertiveness– The tough clientele in financial services domain demanded one to
be outgoing, aggressive to an extent and not someone who got bogged down easily. Parson
personified all these qualities.
5. Responsive– Parson understood well the importance of being swift in your decision making when
serving tough customers like the banks. Although this made him overlook the company norms on
decision making, Parson's alacrity did help earn business for the firm.
6. Result oriented– The faith expressed by Nasr in Parson was justified by the results that Parson
delivered. His proven track record in banking and financial services was further substantiated by his
single handed steering of the growth of MS from being rank tenth to rank second in the business.
As a person Rob Parson demonstrated the following interpersonal skills:
1. Client camaraderie– Amongst his clients Parson was known as someone fun to be around. Not
only was he popular with them for his innovative methods and services, but as a companion too they
found him amusing and interesting, and seek his company whenever they were in town.
2. Transparent– It is reported that within the firm Parson was always ready to share information with
his colleagues and kept them updated on the new ideas he was coming up with.
3. Non Participative– Parson's confidence and knowledge

Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption Analysis
In the novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" by Stephen King, banker Andy
Dufresne is wrongfully convicted of murder and sent to Shawshank Prison. Andy's shrewd nature
and sense of self–worth become valuable tools that allow him to thrive in prison under the harsh
authority of the warden, Samuel Norton. King uses Norton to demonstrate that corruption is present
throughout society and that the perception of good and evil can be altered depending on who
presents a story. King uses the characterization of Norton to argue that corruption has permeated all
classes of society. Norton is a practicing Christian. Christians typically believe that one must be
pious to get into heaven, and that it is important to help sinners repent so they can also go to heaven.
Norton gives every inmate a Bible and has a sampler on the wall that says "His Judgement Cometh
and That Right Early", showing he is aware of this tenet. However, he also runs a corrupt business
profiting off the prison's "Inside Out" program. He doesn't pay the inmates for their labor, cuts
corners on supplies, and accepts bribes. Red explains: "[Norton] was the foulest hypocrite that I ever
saw in a high position... he of the Testaments and the thirty–year church pin, was passed a good
many thick envelopes under the table" (57). Prisons are supposed to house criminals and prevent the
perversion of society but Norton is a free man, implying that corruption is visible throughout all of
society, even in "high

Stuart Hall's text, "Encoding, Decoding" identifies three positions one can take in decoding an

The viewer that approaches the documentary, "Super Size Me", with a negotiated decoding position
identifies the codes of eating and indulging in fast food will eventually kill you. They identify that
there are high risks with eating McDonalds. The viewer will then modify and adapt the codes within
the documentary to reflect on their own position, experiences and interests. These positions can be
of acknowledgement that McDonalds is bad but it's not bad for everyone and that some people's
bodies can handle the intake of such a diet. Other modifications could be that if they ate fast food
every day that they would love it and would believe that they would be ok. They would
acknowledge that yes McDonalds is not good for one's health but it's not the only cause that made
him so sick. They believe that yes eating it was shown to be harmful to the body but that it will not
happen to them because their body is in good shape.
The decoder with the oppositional position will understand the connotative message of the image
full well but is in a direct oppositional relation to the dominant signifiers and therefore decodes the
message in a "contrary way" (Hall). The viewer that approaches the documentary, "Super Size Me",

Themes In The Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank redemption is about much more than just a young banker spending many years of
his life in prison. It shows us the struggles inmates go through to adapt to an environment as harsh
as prisons and how creating friendships with others helps the men get through the rough patches.
The film demonstrates that prison is a world of its own, with its own rules and how many men
struggle to fit back into society when they are released.
Shawshank Redemption uses many good techniques to capture moments brilliantly. A few examples
of these are: when Andy first arrives at Shawshank an establishing shot is used to show the prison.
This allows the viewer to witness how bare and dull the prison is and how the prisoners are not
allowed to express themselves in any way. Another example is the director uses parallels. Both Red
and Brooks have the same experiences when they leave Shawshank, showing the plight the
characters face in the real world due to institutionalisation. This makes us fear that Red's path will
end the same as Brooks'. However, the director shows us that we have a choice and that Red and
Andy's friendship has come such a long way that he carries on going because he gave Andy his
word he would go to the oak tree. The last example is the type of lighting ... Show more content on

The aim of Shawshank is to isolate and reform criminals and teach them right from wrong. Instead,
the prison is full of corruption, greed, bribery, and money laundering. Everyone uses the system to
their own advantage, from Red, who smuggles goods into the prison, all the way to the warden, who
profits from forced prison labour. The warden makes Andy launder money for him and this stops
him from helping prove Andy innocent so that Andy can never reveal his secret. The fact that
Shawshank is as corrupt and tainted as the outside world further justifies Andy's escape from a
hypocritical system that does not care for the prisoners' lives or

Zimbabwe Satire
Satire Reflection
The president of zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe is my main satire target. He was the prime minister of
Zimbabwe since 1980 after Zimbabwe became independent from Britain. He then became president
of Zimbabwe in1987 and still is by using fraud, voter indentation, and violence to silence the
people. He is also the head of state in the world. Zimbabwe has been declining over the years.
Currently, 72.3% percent of the population are under poverty line. Life expectancy in zimbabwe is

ruined he still not willing to step down.

This past rainy season there has been numerous floods mainly in southern zimbabwe. Since this past
December, 249 people have died and thousands are homeless. Many of the victims are waiting for
any international or government aid. The president has not sent any form of aid to the people or
hospitals. All he has mentioned so far was that it was a "National disaster."This is not suspicious as
there are still many victims of 2014 flood who are still homeless and unable to go back to normal
life due to not receiving aids. In the past, Mugabe has given people aid that did not benefit them
such as a few bread and water or a couple of tshirts. I used situational irony, hyperbole,
understatement and sarcasm I exaggerated how useless his aids are by showing how him dancing for
them is the same as the aid he provides. Also the quote, "We have said we will never collapse, never
ever. We may have our droughts, our poverty, but as a people, we shall never collapse, never ever."
is what he actually said about the people of zimbabwe, but in reality, the people are collapsing and

Interpersonal Conflict Paper
1) Interpersonal conflict can be defined as "the interaction of interdependent people who perceive
incompatible goals and interference from each other in achieving those goals". Reese and her
mother have an interdependent relationship, meaning that the people involved in conflict rely on or
need each other in some way and have an actual relationship with each other. They are also
interacting, which means that conflicts are created and sustained through verbal and nonverbal
communication. Even though Reese and her mother are not as close as other members of the family,
they still would have to communicate in some way to realize that Reese's goal to travel over two
hours away for college is farther than her mother is comfortable with. These incompatible goals of
distance become the root cause of their interpersonal conflict.
2) This scenario between Reese and her mother would be considered content conflict within
interpersonal conflict. Content conflict is also considered substantive conflict and is defined as a
conflict that revolves around a specific issue. This disagreement falls within the scope of content
conflict as the two are arguing about the specific issue of exactly how far away Reese should be
allowed to travel for school.
3) Power, or the ability to control the behavior of another, plays a large role in this situation as
Reese's mother probably is feeling some sort of entitlement to make this decision for her daughter.
At this point in life, Reese is either

Frankie took many wrong decisions throughout this movie, but the most exciting moment that really
did touched my heart was when he begins to teach Maggie how to fight. He step out of his self
steam and he said yes to Maggie request and he began to teach her. I personally think it's a moral
decision because in this case Frankie is forgetting about his past and ready to start a new life in
boxing again. As Frankie train Maggie well and well as the movie go on, we see that Maggie has
become a well known boxer and proved Frankie and relatives that there is life. If you know what
you are doing. As she was wining every single boxing match though she almost won her

Amazon Competitive Advantage
For Amazon to maintain a competitive advantage within the marketplace, Amazon has to focus on
remaining a convenient option for consumers. They need to infiltrate their customers' digital
environment. I would suggest that Amazon focus on three things: Strategic Acquisitions and
Partnerships, Fulfillment Center Expansion, and Forward Vertical Integration.
Beyond the highly anticipated package delivery drones and the cashier–free grocery stores of
Amazon, there are numerous business segments that help Amazon remain as one of the largest
online e–commerce marketplaces. Amazon has set up an empire that has enabled it to continue with
highly lucrative strategies and business opportunities that continually push it forward. "Amazon is at
the beginning of an investment cycle," one of Morgan Stanley's financial analysts remarked and also
stated "unclear how long this cycle is expected to last."
One of the biggest questions that frequents Amazon is how can Amazon make sure that the growth
potential remains in line with the founding principles and objectives? A few of the more important
pieces of criteria for evaluation include: Growth, consistency with the marketplace, consistency with
the strategy of Amazon and Amazon's shareholders and short–term and long–term profitability.
Amazon certainly has grand ambitions and is wanting to bring more to its' end users than just being
one of the largest online marketplaces. "Amazon's second quarter 2017 sales rose 25% to $38
billion. This

Media is everywhere, it became a part of our life. We are exposed to thousands of ad messages every
day and it's hard to imagine how it would feel to live without them constantly surrounding us. Today
we see ads in print publications, TV commercials, emails, on different products, massively scattered
in sport venues, and it's even spreading into public spaces. In his documentary, Morgan Spurlock
delivered a fascinating satire of the process of placing products into movies and tried to delve into
the nature of advertising in our society. In the movie Spurlock talks about product marketing while
using product placement to get brands to sponsor his movie. Of course, some of the brands (Guess,

refused every single one of them and basically told him that they wanted to use comparison with
Minute Maid juice, because that's how they wanted to be perceived. Brands are extremely concerned
with their public image, and that's why in Quentin Tarantino's case Denny's refused to take part in
his movies. His movies usually contain blood and murder scenes and no company wanted to risk
being associated with this theme.
One of the topics covered in the movie is the topic of selling out. The question is whether Spurlock
is selling out or not, and what would selling out look like if it's not the case here. The opinion of the
people, that have been asked this question seems to converge on the notion that he is not selling out,
because he's doing the thing he planned from the start. It's his idea and everything goes according to
plan. But as Spurlock said himself, when you become "brand–friendly", it's a slippery slope. The
door is open wide the moment you've made your first deal. Drawing the line may be one of the big

Zimbabwe Should Not Have To Suffer This Way
In recent years, Zimbabwe has been prone to increasing violence as a result of a corrupt
government. There have been many instances reported to "HRWO" (Human rights watch

beatings, pillaging, threats, and overall persecution. These acts of terrorism are the products of a
military coup that is currently in power called the Zanu–PF and orchestrated by the veterans of the

The election was a landslide and the days of a white owned tyrannical government was over, or at
least that's what the native people were led to believe.
One British condition in the Lancaster Agreements was the ensured protection of white farm owners
for the first ten years of the new government. These conditions simply said were "willing seller,
willing buyer" meaning that land would not be acquired forcefully from any already functional
farms. After the term of the agreement was up, the government had control of redistributing the land
to the people. For the first ten years redistribution was slow and most of the land was still in the
hands of the white commercial farmers. During this period President Mugabe took out enormous
loans from the World Bank and invested it in institutions designed to fit the luxurious standards of
the elite. They awarded the majority of usable land to the elite of Zimbabwe, while the majority of
the country was rapidly growing poorer, and paying for the government's outstanding loans through

satirizes open letters that criticize open letters with a personal anecdote of a conversation he had
with a lady in the gym in January. Morgan expertly blends an unconventional approach to his open
letter with humor as he critiques the premise of open letters to open letters, encouraging his
audience to simply listen to what others have to say. The brilliance of Morgan's letter is how he

He shortly addresses the subject, open letter to an open letter, and then quickly changes topics once
more. Here, he introduces "Brandy." Morgan describes his acquaintance at his local gym as
energetic, friendly, intelligent, and physically fit. She acts as the anchor to his open letter, as about
half of the content of his letter consists of an anecdote about her. As the only aspect of his writing
that is conventional, his organized approach leads straight into his anecdote about Brandy. In this
anecdote, Morgan gives himself the opportunity to now use his humor as an effective persuasive
technique. His style of humor in his letter is blunt, unexpected humor. An instance of this blunt
humor occurs as Morgan is about to describe his conversation with Brandy, in light of the tone of his
conversation, he says "people are so damn nice in January." This obviously does not follow
conventions for an open letter, as it contains the mild curse, "damn." Morgan could have completely
left this word out of this simple statement, but by adding "damn" to this sentence, he catches the
reader off–guard with the kind of humor that would cause a spit–take. He takes a completely normal
statement and transforms it into an emotional appeal. This trend follows throughout the letter and
the appeals build up as to point toward the final main point of the letter. Morgan places another
humorous appeal to pathos in his answer regarding how his New Year's went:

Andy escapes by making a hole through the wall over a twenty year period and then during a stormy
night, Andy breaks the sewage pipe by using a piece of concreate while it is masked by the sound of
thunder. Escape is displayed very comprehensively through film techniques and characterization.
When Andy escaped through the sewers and ended in the river it felt like as if he was 'baptised'
because he escaped from the claustrophobic confines of Shawshank and he also escaped the
corruption and money laundering as the warden had forced him to book his laundering schemes
otherwise he would make it hell for him. The major film technique that was involved in this scene
was when Andy was breaking the pipe, the camera was facing up towards him and then switch to the
lightning strike through the window, then quickly switch to Andy crashing the piece of concrete
against the pipe. This film technique gave the effect of intensity and made the audience be on the
edge of their seats. This scene if very significant to the story because this when Andy literally
escapes from Shawshank and the themes displayed in the scene displays how much defiance and
hope Andy really had. In conclusion, Shawshank Redemption used characterization and film
techniques to display Escape through Andy and the people around successfully. Personally, I really
enjoyed watching Shawshank Redemption because the film used a lot of thought–provoking themes

calm, learned everything on his own, and actually thinks on what he is going to say. On like Edward

loved history. History leads to a lot of knowledge because you get to learn about many thing that
happened in the past. He's more of a self–reliance man because he relies on himself to get past

has lots of money which often depends on. Due to money, he doesn't really care about others, but
himself. Money is the outcome of his education, but that all he has in his life. At the beginning of

because he didn't care on what he said to others. He just expressed the way he wanted and didn't
care on what others thought of it. He often disrespect and showed this kind of rudeness to others, he

Poverty In Alex And Morgan's Life
Poverty is a serious topic that most people tend to feel to uncomfortable to acknowledge. Only those
who have lived it or are living it know what it is really like, meanwhile others have no idea. Some
people lived their entire lives like this, others only just beginning, all know how difficult it is. Much
of the time, people scrounge for food, a job, some shelter, and money. Alex and Morgan have been
living an easygoing lifestyle up until the day they decided to take the challenge of going into

For example when Morgan had his wrist hurt, he was torn at the subject. He could've gone to the
hospital, but the thoughts of the fact that they could eat and travel on public transportation made him
change his mind about going to get his wrist checked out. This shows that he cared about the fact
that his fiancee wouldn't have to be on nerves about not having enough money to purchase some
basic essentials. Another example is when the children came over. The two were worried about
trying to attempt at having a fun time for the kids, but within the next few days they have decided to
go to the movie theatre for entertainment. Morgan ended up spending around $50 on the teenagers
and Alex was angry at the fact that he do this; knowing that they couldn't afford anything anymore
all due to the fact that Morgan can't say no, causing them to argue right then and there. This shows
that Alex is very responsible and wouldn't forget the things anyone tell her, meanwhile Morgan just
like to please people. A third example would be Alex's concern for the apartment. Somewhere
around the ten day mark, Morgan and Alex began to notice the ant infestation. They both felt too
uncomfortable to do anything, knowing that the ants were in the building. This made Alex realize
how dull the apartment was and want to go get furniture. Luckily they found a charity that sells
furniture and clothing that is very inexpensive, so they bought some stuff from there. The two were
still aware of the ants, but they were a bit happier with the furniture. This shows that sometimes

George Orwell 's Down And Out Essay
Ever since the 20th century, poverty exists in various of well developed countries, many individuals
live under no shelter and suffer starvation. Although having a job can support their basics of living,
working many hours also affect their health both mentally and physically. George Orwell, the author
of the novel, Down and Out in Paris and London, describes how homelessness and poor working
conditions can affect an individual by starving for a long period of time, having no shelter, and
working in harsh environment. Orwell illustrates a journey about a person who lives in poverty in
both contemporary countries, Paris and London in the 1930s. Where in Paris, he graphically
describes the poor working experiences as a plongeur, a lowest position behind the kitchen of a high
class French hotel, Hotel X. The narrator encounters many frustrations in handling money causing
him to suffer from starvation in Paris. As in London, Orwell acutely narrates the life as a tramp,
which looking for a place everyday becomes an issue for an individual because of the vagrancy law
in England. Due to the absurd law of England, it makes the narrator even more difficult to live out of
poverty in the novel. Orwell describes the life of a well educated individual who has to live under
poverty due to the minimum amount of opportunities in Paris and London in 1930's. In comparison
to the deleterious conditions as a homeless in Down and Out in Paris and London, 21st century in

Theme Of Religion In Shawshank Redemption
What role does religion play in the film? Describe the use of different religious symbols, elements or
terms. To me Shawshank Redemption, seemed to be like any other prison film. A story of a
prisoner's tough life, when surrounded by the massive walls of a brutal American prison, treated as
scum. In some genius way, they manage to trick the management and escape through a tiny tunnel
and out as free men. However, the Shawshank Redemption is no jail–brake film, to me it is rather
more a parable of the side effects when imprisoning a human being until institutionalized and unable
to function when outside the "protection" of the prison walls. As Red quoted; "These walls are

The Shawshank Redemption actually retells the resurrection of Jesus Christ. After Andy's escape,
Red and others look for Andy's dead body just like the disciples went to look Jesu's. As the prison
guard said; "Oh my holy god". The film infuses Dufresne's escape, with the symbolism of new birth,
since he precedes through a woman's womb (in this case Rita Hayworth) and ends with him slipping
head first out of a sewer. As Red quoted; "Andy crawled through 500 yards of sh*t–smelling
foulness I can't even imagine". Andy Dufresne was new–born and cleaned as soon as he slipped into
the river. I believe it refers to the Christian tradition of baptizing a new–born. However, the
strongest reference to Christianity I believe, is the tale of hope and faith. Andy Dufresne came as an
outsider, brining perhaps new hope to this grey environment. He might be the only hope in the
prison, since he is the only innocent one. His hope for a brighter future leads him to accomplish a
great number of achievements. Not only did he manage to get a prison library, he managed to
educate a young prisoner at high school level. Dufresne's best friend, Red keeps telling him that
hope is a dangerous thing and will drive a man crazy. But when the warden shoots Dufresne's only
witness and hope to be released, he seemed to lose hope. He became closer to being
institutionalized. This is where Andy Dufresne decided that he had been in prison enough and

environment that is constantly trying to diminish them (Davis, 2009). With that being said, there are
two main themes found within the documentary. The first theme focuses on the strife that these
teenagers, and those within their lives, endure. The second one feeds off this strife, and demonstrates
the potential of Mikey and Kendell. Aspects of both themes have been discussed in our class

the teenagers face in their youth, and the possibility for a better future, both of which include
prominent topics in our class lectures.
In more specific terms, the theme regarding strife is defined by the various hardships these teenagers
presently encounter such as race, crime, education, family issues, and poverty, all of which can be
related to our class lectures. Firstly, race is a basic component in the strife that these teenagers
experience. In Canada, those who are black are considered to be part of a minority group. Thus, they
are usually at a disadvantage in a mostly white society. An example of this is found in the
documentary, where the boys mention that they have been stopped by police for no ... Show more

The Shawshank Redemption
In the resolution of The Shawshank Redemption, the valiant protagonist, Andy Dufresne sets his
ingenious escape plan into action, leaving everyone in utter wonderment. Over the course of
nineteen years, Andy spent most of his time in secret burrowing through his cell wall. All of this was
hidden by the poster of Rita Hayworth and Andy's introverted personality. Throughout Andy's time
served in prison no person except for, Andy, himself knew of his elaborate plan. On the night of the
breakout, Andy replaced the Warden's files with false copies, this was done easily as Andy had
always managed his money laundering scheme. He also swapped the Warden's shoes with his own,
and stole one of his suits. Once Andy destroyed the wall, he endured five hundred yards of crawling
through a gruesome sewage pipe and embraced his freedom when he escaped. As seen in the film,
the Warden and the guards were in sheer horror, unable to figure out what happened. Meanwhile,
Andy is seen strolling into Maine National Bank under the of "Randall Stevens", the character he
conjured up out of thin air. Andy is also seen depositing money and dropping off mail to be
delivered. It was later revealed that the mail was sent to the newspaper revealing the corruption
behind Shawshank State prison. The next morning the tables completely turn and everything has
taken a turn for the better. With Andy successfully escaping and venturing off to Zihuatanejo,
Captain Hadley is arrested, the Warden committed suicide

The Shawshank Redemption By Frank Darabont And Starred Tim...
Introduction
I selected the 1994 film, The Shawshank Redemption, which was directed by Frank Darabont and
starred Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The central message of this film is the power of hope.
When Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), says to Red (Morgan Freeman) "get busy living or get busy
dying," he is saying that it is only when you willingly risk everything, that freedom becomes
possible.
The film, The Shawshank Redemption takes place in the 1940's and is the story of a Maine banker,
Andy Dufresne who is wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover and is sentenced to
life imprisonment in Shawshank Penitentiary (Representations of Prison in Nineties Hollywood
Cinema). For the first three years of his sentence, Andy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Body of the Term Project
The film talks about the prisoners being "institutionalized", and the thought of spending the majority
of one's life inside a penitentiary would scare anyone (Politics and Film). There comes a time when
a prisoner becomes very accustomed to the life they were living inside prison that they were
dreading the day when they had to leave and go back to the society as a reformed person (Politics
and Film). In the film, Brooks tried to hurt a fellow prisoner just so he could stay in Shawshank.
Each of the prisoners inside Shawshank is locked up metaphorically as well as literally (Cinematic
Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). The forms of isolation in Shawshank range from the large,
enclosed recreation yard to the small work crews down to the cellblock, cells and solitary
confinement literally (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). The bars, strict schedules,
heartless prison guards and predatory sisters add a sense of entrapment to the layers of isolation
(Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). There are also examples of socioeconomic
diversity in the film. Andy shares an idea with the prison guards who are unaware of the tax law.
Also, when Andy explains to Red about what a rock hammer is or stones (Cinematic Carcerality:
Prison Metaphors in Film). When The Shawshank Redemption was first released it

Importance Of Life In My Life

  • 1. Importance Of Life In My Life Where have we been and WHAT HAPPENED IN ZIMBABWE?!?!? It's been too long and it's completely our fault Much to my chagrin turns out Chindi was right it has been over two months! Shame on us! Did you think we had given up? No, we will never surrender! We went live 07/11/17 with ambitious goals. Partially I was motivated to get started rather than stuck in the what if's, how's, and logistics. The go–live was effective in prompting us to jump in and get to work. Where we have lacked is in our consistency, then we have been beset with an onset of monumental life changes that have caused us to come to a grinding halt. HOWEVER, there is a lesson, of course, and our motto is "problems are opportunities". Where have we been? At the radius we are about expansion and behind the scenes there has been tons of growth. Myself, I continue to work during the day, as well as volunteer and coordinate community based events. In addition to that, I applied for and was appointed to a vacant school board seat. Given that I wanted to perform well, and increase my learning curve I devoted many hours in training to my new role. This was a detriment to my ability to record episodes, do social media and blog posts. What I have learned/modified about my behavior is spacing – doing all the things I love to do, but less of them. Being deliberate about giving myself space. Also I go to bed earlier, and thus wake up at 4:30am, most days, which affords me a lot of productivity time to work out and work ... • 2. Hope Springs Eternal: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank... Hope Springs Eternal: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King A wise man once said, "Memory is the library of the mind." All of the events in one's life, ranging from birth to the present, are stored in this complex catalog of experience. There they remain untouched and collecting dust until a time of need, much like the scores of books found in today's libraries. No matter how obscure, their topics represent the various trials of life that build one's character and forever serve as the most reliable source of the human psyche. The novella, "Hope Springs Eternal: Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption", is part of a collection of stories that comprise Stephen King's book Different Seasons which was first published ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, he has a difficult time making friends thanks to his reputation of being "a snob and a coldfish" (King 27). He is very different from the other prisoners, partly because he knows he is not guilty and thus wears this confidence on his sleeve. It is the memory of his former freedom which provokes this seemingly arrogant attitude that both helps and hinders him. Nevertheless, this behavior serves as the very thing that first attracts the narrator, Red, to Andy. Not a man to be easily impressed nor persuaded, it comes as quite a shock to the reader that these two polar opposites form a bond. Red is able to see past what the other inmates label as "snobbishness" and instead takes comfort in Andy's nonchalant approach to life and the tone of confidence that consumes him. Red views Andy as a much needed breath of fresh air to his musty routine within the Shank. However, it seems that their budding friendship is initially a greater asset to Red than it is to Andy. Although it may help Andy begin to find his place, he is primarily concerned with his own well–being, which is sustained only by his memories and not by the companionship of a stranger. An addition to this list of survival tools is Andy's ability to keep his mind on the outside rather than focusing on the finality of prison life. His capacity to do so separates him from his peers, in that he becomes one of the few "long timers" able to avoid the characteristic walk, that in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Issue Of A Great Amount Of Money $ 4 Million Introduction I am a senior accountant working for Cape Tisbe International (CTI) and am writing this business report concerning the issue of a great amount of money $4 million that has been paid to a PNG government minister as "Consulting Fees" recently. In this report, I would like to identify the fact , the issues needed to be tackled, and then discuss the possible consequences derived from those issues, subsequently I will offer some plausible solutions in tackling this issue in a long–run development. . Facts A year ago, CTI signed a contract for farm machinery, worth $25 million, with Papua New Guinea(PNG). Recently, however, when I was conducting the annual internal audit, I have discovered some issues associated with this signed contract. As soon as I found something wrong with the contract's accounting records I communicated with George but his answer has not addressed my confusion. Soon after that I had a chat with my boss Gareth because it was my duty to identify and reveal any detailed information related to CTI's financial records. after the conversation with both of them, I decided to dig it further. Now I discover that the actual sale revenue of the contract was $21 million as around $4 million has been paid to a PNG government minister as 'Consulting Fees". • 4. Essay on Frank Darabont's The Shawshank Redemption Frank Darabont's The Shawshank Redemption The movie the Shawshank Redemption, based on the book by Steven King, I believe is one of the best movies ever made. The portrayal of prison life in the movie is the best I have seen and a star–studded cast including Morgan Freeman supports the characters and brings to life the everyday struggles of life behind bars. In this paper I will relate topics from class to the movie and discuss information we have learned through out the semester. One of the best things about this movie is its portrayal of prison life. There are many movies that deal with prison and the life of prisoners while incarcerated, but Shawshank I feel does the best job of giving you a real feeling of what prison life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the film the inmates used cigarettes as money, a way to get things in the prison, a feat that seemed easily accessible in Shawshank at the time, due to the guards taking bribes from delivery drivers and the inmates themselves. It seemed to me that all of Shawshank was corrupt in its ways. In prison there are different levels of confinement and this was shown to play a big part in the prisoners life at Shawshank. If you were caught in the act of doing something against the rules or in Andy's case, standing up to the warden, you were sent to solitarily confinement for a period of time. In the movie Andy spent two months in solitary with only bread and water to survive. This to me is a hell of a way to get what you want out of the inmates but some have nothing to lose so even solitary does not break them. One of the subjects that the film deals with is the idea of "institutionalization." The idea that inmates that have spent so many years behind bars that they can no longer function in a free society. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to one day have to get yourself up out of bed, make yourself some food, and go to work in a society that has passed you by. After forty or fifty years of inmate life you become depended on the prison it becomes your world, your security. The example of this in the movie is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why can't he leave us alone? Why? Why? Why? I looked out the apartment window at the the smoke filled sky, the barren streets, and flickering street lamps three stories up then the poor bakery below. I ran my finger along the rigged cement windowsill and sang a song "I was a poor man living in San Francisco..." The door opened and in wobbled my mom with her bony legs carrying a red bottle of water, a loaf of fresh brown bread, and two dark orange carrots. I ran to give her a big warm hug and almost knocked the groceries out of her scrawny hands. Then, I scrambled and opened up the brown cupboards for the only two things we had peanut butter and jelly. "Get the plates out Jimmy," mom ordered. I grabbed the plates off the counter top and brought everything to the table. We each took a piece of bread out of the bag and spread the peanut butter till it was smooth on the bread. Then took the grape jelly and slobbered that on and took a shark bite out of it. "Slow down or you 're going to get a stomach ache" she stated. Ding! Ding! the doorbell sounded. My mother got up, pushed in her chair and walked to the door as her steal toes went Ting! • 6. Finding Virtue and Vice in "The Shawshank Redemption" Essay "Virtue itself turns vice, being misapplied, and vice sometimes by action dignified." That is a quote by Shakespeare that could truly relate to the story in Shawshank Redemption. The main character in this story is a prime example of a person who demonstrated virtue. After the murder of his wife, Andy Dufresne is sent to Shawshank Prison, where the usual unpleasantness that one would expect out of a prison occurs. Over the years, he retains hope and eventually gains the respect of his fellow inmates, especially longtime convict "Red" Redding, who runs the black market inside if Shawshank prison, and becomes influential within the prison. The plan that he brings together is a representation of Andy Dufresne's prudence and having such a virtue paid off for the protagonist of this story by the end. The start of this was as soon as Andy began talking to Red. When Andy realized the connections that Red had he asked him for rock pick because he was an amateur geologist before he was put into Shawshank. Andy claims for the longest time that he is just using the rock pick to shape the different rocks that he finds throughout his time at Shawshank prison. Meanwhile he is actually using the pick to escape from prison. He admittedly told Red that it would take 50 years to escape through Shawshank with the pick, so it really wasn't worth worrying about whether or not he would escape or not. This whole thing shows how prudent Andy really was. He never told anyone of his plan and just kept on going everyday. He covered everything up and disposed of all the extra stone and seemed to have every facet of his operation covered. Nobody ever saw it coming and that was on purpose. Even though Andy Dufresne was wrongfully accused, prison itself is a necessary part of society. It is clearly a representation of Justice in the world. It puts those who commit crimes and it gives them the punishment that is deserved. In the protagonist's case, he was innocent and wrongfully accused so instead of the prison representing ... • 8. Napoleon Bonaparte Comparison Napoleon Bonaparte and Robert Mugabe were both dictators that maintained an iron fist rule on their respective countries, France and Zimbabwe. In times of oppression and hardship seemingly strong leaders take up the mantle of becoming what seems like a revolutionary hero. In the case of Napoleon this meant ousting the dysfunctional rule of the Directory in revolutionary France. His campaign for power followed a rule of a tyrannical madman by the name of Robespierre, who ushered an age of absolute peril and most heinous of atrocities, murder. Countless of heads poured down the French streets during the Age of Terror. Although the Directory followed Robespierre's rule, there was little they did to help France recuperate. Needless to say France was in absolute chaos. But a savior by the name of Napoleon stood up to rescue the French people in their time of most need bringing lasting justice in the form of the Napoleonic code, religious freedom, and education reforms that still lasts into present time. Similarly, Mugabe was once celebrated as a revolutionary war hero in a perceived era of oppression by the British. Together Mugabe and the ZANU–PF(Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front) emancipated the people of Zimbabwe of their colonial chains of oppression in 1980. However, unlike Napoleon Mugabe brought economic ruin, genocide, and racial injustice to Zimbabwe. Therefore, Napoleon was a just ruler that did more good than harm for France but Mugabe is a tyrant that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Andy is a young and successful banker who is sent to Shawshank Prison for murdering his wife and her secret lover. His life is changed drastically upon being convicted and being sent to prison. He is sent to prison to serve a life term. Over the 20–years in prison, Andy retains optimism and eventually earns the respect of his fellow inmates. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the film's final scene the two meet up and are free from their life of isolation, law, hate, and racism. The film has some additional storytelling that I would like to discuss. The Shawshank Redemption is done in chronological order, but there are some parts when the characters flash back to earlier times in their live so you can understand what is happening in the film. This is done so the viewer still has an easy way to follow the movie. The characters of the film face both internal and external conflict. The internal conflict is should I continue this life when I know I am innocent, and the external conflict is from the prison, the prisoners, and the prison staff. The film does contain symbolism. An example of the symbolism is when the warden learns of his fate and his last judgment by reading the morning newspaper of himself and the prison being corrupt. Additionally, symbolism is used with the holy bible the warden reads; when he finds the hammer that Andy uses to dig out of the prison. There is a passage from Exodus that is used to symbolize the warden's salvation and Andy's escape. Also, there is a metaphor that I remember and it happens when the librarian (Brooks Hatlen) is freed from jail and he takes his own life. At the same time he hangs himself his bird (Jake) fly's away and is freed. The metaphor is that the librarian is free of his lifelong nightmare of being told what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption Analysis In the novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" by Stephen King, banker Andy Dufresne is wrongfully convicted of murder and sent to Shawshank Prison. Andy's shrewd nature and sense of self–worth become valuable tools that allow him to thrive in prison under the harsh authority of the warden, Samuel Norton. King uses Norton to demonstrate that corruption is present throughout society and that the perception of good and evil can be altered depending on who presents a story. King uses the characterization of Norton to argue that corruption has permeated all classes of society. Norton is a practicing Christian. Christians typically believe that one must be pious to get into heaven, and that it is important to help sinners repent so they can also go to heaven. Norton gives every inmate a Bible and has a sampler on the wall that says "His Judgement Cometh and That Right Early", showing he is aware of this tenet. However, he also runs a corrupt business profiting off the prison's "Inside Out" program. He doesn't pay the inmates for their labor, cuts corners on supplies, and accepts bribes. Red explains: "[Norton] was the foulest hypocrite that I ever saw in a high position... he of the Testaments and the thirty–year church pin, was passed a good many thick envelopes under the table" (57). Prisons are supposed to house criminals and prevent the perversion of society but Norton is a free man, implying that corruption is visible throughout all of society, even in "high ... Choose two images, one from the genre of documentary and one from advertising, and explain the process of encoding and decoding to explain these three positions the viewer may take when decoding your chosen images. Stuart Hall's text, "Encoding, Decoding" identifies three positions one can take in decoding an image. These three positions are dominant, negotiated and oppositional. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The viewer that approaches the documentary, "Super Size Me", with a negotiated decoding position identifies the codes of eating and indulging in fast food will eventually kill you. They identify that there are high risks with eating McDonalds. The viewer will then modify and adapt the codes within the documentary to reflect on their own position, experiences and interests. These positions can be of acknowledgement that McDonalds is bad but it's not bad for everyone and that some people's bodies can handle the intake of such a diet. Other modifications could be that if they ate fast food every day that they would love it and would believe that they would be ok. They would acknowledge that yes McDonalds is not good for one's health but it's not the only cause that made him so sick. They believe that yes eating it was shown to be harmful to the body but that it will not happen to them because their body is in good shape. The decoder with the oppositional position will understand the connotative message of the image full well but is in a direct oppositional relation to the dominant signifiers and therefore decodes the message in a "contrary way" (Hall). • 19. Themes In The Shawshank Redemption The Shawshank redemption is about much more than just a young banker spending many years of his life in prison. It shows us the struggles inmates go through to adapt to an environment as harsh as prisons and how creating friendships with others helps the men get through the rough patches. The film demonstrates that prison is a world of its own, with its own rules and how many men struggle to fit back into society when they are released. Shawshank Redemption uses many good techniques to capture moments brilliantly. A few examples of these are: when Andy first arrives at Shawshank an establishing shot is used to show the prison. This allows the viewer to witness how bare and dull the prison is and how the prisoners are not allowed to express themselves in any way. Another example is the director uses parallels. Both Red and Brooks have the same experiences when they leave Shawshank, showing the plight the characters face in the real world due to institutionalisation. This makes us fear that Red's path will end the same as Brooks'. However, the director shows us that we have a choice and that Red and Andy's friendship has come such a long way that he carries on going because he gave Andy his word he would go to the oak tree. The last example is the type of lighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The aim of Shawshank is to isolate and reform criminals and teach them right from wrong. Beyond the highly anticipated package delivery drones and the cashier–free grocery stores of Amazon, there are numerous business segments that help Amazon remain as one of the largest online e–commerce marketplaces. Escape is displayed very comprehensively through film techniques and characterization. When Andy escaped through the sewers and ended in the river it felt like as if he was 'baptised' because he escaped from the claustrophobic confines of Shawshank and he also escaped the corruption and money laundering as the warden had forced him to book his laundering schemes otherwise he would make it hell for him. The major film technique that was involved in this scene was when Andy was breaking the pipe, the camera was facing up towards him and then switch to the lightning strike through the window, then quickly switch to Andy crashing the piece of concrete against the pipe. This film technique gave the effect of intensity and made the audience be on the edge of their seats. This scene if very significant to the story because this when Andy literally escapes from Shawshank and the themes displayed in the scene displays how much defiance and hope Andy really had. In conclusion, Shawshank Redemption used characterization and film techniques to display Escape through Andy and the people around successfully. Personally, I really enjoyed watching Shawshank Redemption because the film used a lot of thought–provoking themes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Harvard Business School Mba Program As we review your application, what more would you like us to know as we consider your candidacy for the Harvard Business School MBA program? The oval table spanned the length of the massive empty room. I sat in a chair in one corner of the room, leg twitching, with my notebook in one hand and BlackBerry in the other. Portraits of grey– haired men donning dark suits and stoic dispositions filled the back wall. Floor–to–ceiling windows completed the almost clichéd scene of the 40th floor boardroom at Morgan Stanley's headquarters in Times Square. One by one, important looking people I had never met filed into the room, taking seats opposite the CFO and Investor Relations team. One of the junior members of the latter noticed me and called ... She explained that it was something James (Gorman, CEO) said to her when she jokingly asked him how two of his C–level executives were able to work together when all they did was shout at each other in meetings. He chuckled and said plainly, "Exactly." He went on to say that he looks at his operating committee like a diversified portfolio, a collection of talents. He would rather none of his team be friends. This way they aren't afraid to challenge one another. They aren't all thinking the same way. She noted that through working closely with someone like that, she would become a better manager and a more dynamic thinker. The heads of the Fixed Income & Commodities division sat across from us. I feverishly took notes as Jon proceeded to dig deep into the numbers, pressing for more information at every opportunity. The room felt tense. It was near this time last year that he and the company's board made the decision to cut roughly a quarter of this division's workforce on the back of several disappointing earnings results and a challenged backdrop across Wall Street. • 31. Character Analysis Of The Movie, Edward Cole ' n my opinion, I believe that they are both intelligent, but in different ways. Carter James is really calm, learned everything on his own, and actually thinks on what he is going to say. On like Edward Cole, he's educated, and doesn't care on what he has to say. They both have great minds, but expressed differently. Edward is based of on money which leads to him not caring. I feel like they are both smart, but Carter is more smart because he learned a lot of things on his own and he just loved history. History leads to a lot of knowledge because you get to learn about many thing that happened in the past. He's more of a self–reliance man because he relies on himself to get past anything. Edward Cole is more of a guy who was educated, but often shown like he wasn't. Edward has lots of money which often depends on. Due to money, he doesn't really care about others, but himself. Money is the outcome of his education, but that all he has in his life. At the beginning of the movie, could you label Edward cole a bully? Why? I could label Edward Cole as a bully, because he didn't care on what he said to others. He just expressed the way he wanted and didn't care on what others thought of it. He often disrespect and showed this kind of rudeness to others, he made statements like "kiss my ass" and other rude comments. He would just blur anything out without carrying. • 33. Poverty In Alex And Morgan's Life Poverty is a serious topic that most people tend to feel to uncomfortable to acknowledge. Only those who have lived it or are living it know what it is really like, meanwhile others have no idea. Some people lived their entire lives like this, others only just beginning, all know how difficult it is. Much of the time, people scrounge for food, a job, some shelter, and money. Alex and Morgan have been living an easygoing lifestyle up until the day they decided to take the challenge of going into poverty for thirty days and earning $1,000 in deposit extra by the end. In the beginning they assumed it was going to be easy, but by the end they were ready to get out. Having done this, the couple changed their perspective and began to be more joyous ... He could've gone to the hospital, but the thoughts of the fact that they could eat and travel on public transportation made him change his mind about going to get his wrist checked out. This shows that he cared about the fact that his fiancee wouldn't have to be on nerves about not having enough money to purchase some basic essentials. Another example is when the children came over. The two were worried about trying to attempt at having a fun time for the kids, but within the next few days they have decided to go to the movie theatre for entertainment. Morgan ended up spending around $50 on the teenagers and Alex was angry at the fact that he do this; knowing that they couldn't afford anything anymore all due to the fact that Morgan can't say no, causing them to argue right then and there. This shows that Alex is very responsible and wouldn't forget the things anyone tell her, meanwhile Morgan just like to please people. A third example would be Alex's concern for the apartment. Somewhere around the ten day mark, Morgan and Alex began to notice the ant infestation. They both felt too uncomfortable to do anything, knowing that the ants were in the building. This made Alex realize how dull the apartment was and want to go get furniture. • 34. George Orwell 's Down And Out Essay Ever since the 20th century, poverty exists in various of well developed countries, many individuals live under no shelter and suffer starvation. Although having a job can support their basics of living, working many hours also affect their health both mentally and physically. George Orwell, the author of the novel, Down and Out in Paris and London, describes how homelessness and poor working conditions can affect an individual by starving for a long period of time, having no shelter, and working in harsh environment. Orwell illustrates a journey about a person who lives in poverty in both contemporary countries, Paris and London in the 1930s. Where in Paris, he graphically describes the poor working experiences as a plongeur, a lowest position behind the kitchen of a high class French hotel, Hotel X. The narrator encounters many frustrations in handling money causing him to suffer from starvation in Paris. As in London, Orwell acutely narrates the life as a tramp, which looking for a place everyday becomes an issue for an individual because of the vagrancy law in England. Due to the absurd law of England, it makes the narrator even more difficult to live out of poverty in the novel. Orwell describes the life of a well educated individual who has to live under poverty due to the minimum amount of opportunities in Paris and London in 1930's. In comparison to the deleterious conditions as a homeless in Down and Out in Paris and London, 21st century in the United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Theme Of Religion In Shawshank Redemption What role does religion play in the film? Describe the use of different religious symbols, elements or terms. To me Shawshank Redemption, seemed to be like any other prison film. A story of a prisoner's tough life, when surrounded by the massive walls of a brutal American prison, treated as scum. In some genius way, they manage to trick the management and escape through a tiny tunnel and out as free men. However, the Shawshank Redemption is no jail–brake film, to me it is rather more a parable of the side effects when imprisoning a human being until institutionalized and unable to function when outside the "protection" of the prison walls. As Red quoted; "These walls are funny. First you hate them, then you get used to them. Enough time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Shawshank Redemption actually retells the resurrection of Jesus Christ. After Andy's escape, Red and others look for Andy's dead body just like the disciples went to look Jesu's. As the prison guard said; "Oh my holy god". The film infuses Dufresne's escape, with the symbolism of new birth, since he precedes through a woman's womb (in this case Rita Hayworth) and ends with him slipping head first out of a sewer. As Red quoted; "Andy crawled through 500 yards of sh*t–smelling foulness I can't even imagine". Andy Dufresne was new–born and cleaned as soon as he slipped into the river. I believe it refers to the Christian tradition of baptizing a new–born. However, the strongest reference to Christianity I believe, is the tale of hope and faith. Andy Dufresne came as an outsider, brining perhaps new hope to this grey environment. He might be the only hope in the prison, since he is the only innocent one. His hope for a brighter future leads him to accomplish a great number of achievements. Not only did he manage to get a prison library, he managed to educate a young prisoner at high school level. Dufresne's best friend, Red keeps telling him that hope is a dangerous thing and will drive a man crazy. But when the warden shoots Dufresne's only witness and hope to be released, he seemed to lose hope. He became closer to being institutionalized. Instead of learning from his time in prison, he brought all his poor habits of corruption to the country of Zimbabwe ("Zimbabwe's" 1). During his powerful rule, Zimbabwe faced many different situations within his country. Within the first few years of Mugabe being president, Zimbabwe started to have some political and economical issues. The teenagers, Mikey and Kendell, are individuals struggling with various issues. Essentially, the documentary chronicles the ups and downs of their lives, in an environment that is constantly trying to diminish them (Davis, 2009). With that being said, there are two main themes found within the documentary. The first theme focuses on the strife that these teenagers, and those within their lives, endure. The second one feeds off this strife, and demonstrates the potential of Mikey and Kendell. Aspects of both themes have been discussed in our class lectures, because they relate to major societal problems. Overall, these themes outline the obstacles the teenagers face in their youth, and the possibility for a better future, both of which include prominent topics in our class lectures. In more specific terms, the theme regarding strife is defined by the various hardships these teenagers presently encounter such as race, crime, education, family issues, and poverty, all of which can be related to our class lectures. Firstly, race is a basic component in the strife that these teenagers experience. In Canada, those who are black are considered to be part of a minority group. Thus, they are usually at a disadvantage in a mostly white society. An example of this is found in the documentary, where the boys mention that they have been stopped by police for no ... • 39. The Shawshank Redemption In the resolution of The Shawshank Redemption, the valiant protagonist, Andy Dufresne sets his ingenious escape plan into action, leaving everyone in utter wonderment. Over the course of nineteen years, Andy spent most of his time in secret burrowing through his cell wall. All of this was hidden by the poster of Rita Hayworth and Andy's introverted personality. Throughout Andy's time served in prison no person except for, Andy, himself knew of his elaborate plan. On the night of the breakout, Andy replaced the Warden's files with false copies, this was done easily as Andy had always managed his money laundering scheme. He also swapped the Warden's shoes with his own, and stole one of his suits. Once Andy destroyed the wall, he endured five hundred yards of crawling through a gruesome sewage pipe and embraced his freedom when he escaped. As seen in the film, the Warden and the guards were in sheer horror, unable to figure out what happened. Meanwhile, Andy is seen strolling into Maine National Bank under the of "Randall Stevens", the character he conjured up out of thin air. Andy is also seen depositing money and dropping off mail to be delivered. It was later revealed that the mail was sent to the newspaper revealing the corruption behind Shawshank State prison. • 40. The Shawshank Redemption By Frank Darabont And Starred Tim... Introduction I selected the 1994 film, The Shawshank Redemption, which was directed by Frank Darabont and starred Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The central message of this film is the power of hope. When Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), says to Red (Morgan Freeman) "get busy living or get busy dying," he is saying that it is only when you willingly risk everything, that freedom becomes possible. The film, The Shawshank Redemption takes place in the 1940's and is the story of a Maine banker, Andy Dufresne who is wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover and is sentenced to life imprisonment in Shawshank Penitentiary (Representations of Prison in Nineties Hollywood Cinema). For the first three years of his sentence, Andy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Body of the Term Project The film talks about the prisoners being "institutionalized", and the thought of spending the majority of one's life inside a penitentiary would scare anyone (Politics and Film). There comes a time when a prisoner becomes very accustomed to the life they were living inside prison that they were dreading the day when they had to leave and go back to the society as a reformed person (Politics and Film). In the film, Brooks tried to hurt a fellow prisoner just so he could stay in Shawshank. Each of the prisoners inside Shawshank is locked up metaphorically as well as literally (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). The forms of isolation in Shawshank range from the large, enclosed recreation yard to the small work crews down to the cellblock, cells and solitary confinement literally (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). The bars, strict schedules, heartless prison guards and predatory sisters add a sense of entrapment to the layers of isolation (Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film). There are also examples of socioeconomic diversity in the film. Andy shares an idea with the prison guards who are unaware of the tax law.
