I am going to mail it to you at the end of
the summer.

Dual Credit:
Dual credit means that the college course also counts towards the OSSD (the high school diploma). You get the college credit and the high school credit. It does not count twice towards high school. It does not count twice towards college.
If your college program in the future has an elective, you can use this course as your elective at Northern College. If you attend a different college, it may count as an elective, and you might have to go through a process of requesting it to be counted as your elective.
The WHY of the course.
Why offer such a course?
Then…
Goals are how we achieve those purposes.

Class and Blackboard Discussions 20%
Midterm Test 10%
Survival Guide Wiki Assignment 30%
Exam 15%
Final Reflection Paper 10%
Schedule:
9 am start
1 pm finish
40 min of breaks
We will take a break at 10:15-10:30
Then we will finish for the day at 12:10
Lates and Absences:
Attendance is taken hourly because...
Each hour you miss will be recorded. You should never miss more than 8 hours of a 45 hour course (almost 20%).
Eight hours of missed time may result in withdrawal depending on your work completion at that point in time.
Withdrawal:
Must decide to withdraw today to not have this course show at all on your course record (under 6 hours).
From 6-24 hours, you will get a ‘W’ on your college transcript without a mark.
After 24 hours, you will have a calculated grade.
Pass/Fail:
In this course, the college/high school pass is the same at 50%
BUT most college courses have a ‘must have over 60%’ rule.
If the college course has a 60% pass level, the high school course still has a 50% pass level.
Tests:
If you miss the midterm test or the final exam, you will not be given a make up test unless you produce a doctor’s note for serious illness. If you complete all other work in the course (and on time), then your final exam will count for both your midterm and final mark (25% instead of 15%). You must communicate concerning your absence as soon as you know that you are not going to make it and why.
Assignments:
You will be deducted 10% per day on late assignments, for up to 5 days. At that point, your assignment will still be accepted up to the last day of the course, but the evaluated grade with be cut in half.
The final project is due on July 29 and all final marks must be submitted by July 31. No work can be accepted past July 30th at 3 pm.
Student Services:
All about the $ (payment and OSAP) and registration.
They provide you with your “Confirmation of Registration” which gives you your student number, username and password for all Northern websites, and Northern College email.
Accessibility Services:
All about support services for students with individual education needs, whether physical or mental.
First Year Experience program
Counselors on hand for anyone needing to talk or get connected with other services in Timmins.
Upgrading (ACE):
Adult Continuing Education for persons over the age of 19 to give you the foundation needed to take a particular college program.
$30 / year
It does not give you your high school diploma, so it’s best to finish high school but this alternative does open up some opportunities.
