1. The A's played 72 games. They won 10 more games
than they lost. How many games did they win and lose?
2. $270.00 is divided among A, B, and C. B gets twice as
much money as A. C gets $20 more than B. How much does
each receive?
3. Andy is 2 times younger than his sister and his father is
25 years older than him. If the total of their ages is 53
years, what is Andy’s age and his father’s age?

  • 3.  Writing Expressions 1 with variables  Writing & interpreting decimals  Equations with variables on both sides  Your source for Resources, Grades, Extra-Credit, and More.
  • 4. 1. Clear any fractions/decimals 2. Distribute if necessary. 3. Simplify each side of equation. (Combine like terms on each side before step four.) 4. Move Constants & Variables to opposite sides of equation 5. Simplify, divide by coefficient; the result is your answer. Steps for Solving Equations Write all practice problems in your notebook and try to solve before solution given.

Translate & Solve Word Problem Equations  This week is all about equations, leading to our 2nd test this Friday on equations and translations. Most, if not all, of the equation types we have already covered. So far, we have practiced the following:
  • 6. Warm-Up/Review: a. 8 less than the square of a number. 𝑥2 − 8 b. The quotient of 7 and twice a number. 7 2𝑛 c. The sum of 25 and 5 times a number 25 + 5y Translate: (4) d. Four less than the product of four and x is nine. 4𝑥 − 4 = 9
  • 7. 1. 𝟏 𝟐 x + 𝟓 𝟑 = 𝟏 𝟔 2. 5(4x – 3) + 2 = 37 3 Warm-Up: a – 8 = 2a + 5 12 3 3. Fractional Equations: Different Looks, Same Process xxx 2 6 5 2 1 3 2 4. x1 -x = 17 --We are not solving for –x, do not leave like this Either: a) Divide both sides by (-3) or b) Multiply both sides by -1 at the end of the problem.

Warm-Up: Translating and solving word problems: (3) Key Concept: Always Assign the variable to the smallest, least, lightest, shortest, etc. Every other number is shown by its relationship to the variable. 1. The A's played 72 games. They won 10 more games than they lost. How many games did they win and lose? 2. $270.00 is divided among A, B, and C. B gets twice as much money as A. C gets $20 more than B. How much does each receive? 3. Andy is 2 times younger than his sister and his father is 25 years older than him. If the total of their ages is 53 years, what is Andy’s age and his father’s age?
