Introduction
Indreni means rainbow in Nepali language. Each color of rainbow has
its own identification and their own value. When these different colors are
combined together it forms a rainbow, having different meaning and value
irrespective of the previous single colors. Likewise these children have come
from different parts of the country with different identity, purpose, talent,
backgrounds, religion, caste and behaviors. But they all live under the same
roof and share the same food and have the same feelings of innocent and
ignorant child with care takers to look after them. When these all come
together it forms Indreni Children’s Home.
Indreni Children’s Home is a non-profitable organization established by
youths of the similar backgrounds. Indreni is just few years old though it was
imagined long time ago. These youths have dreamt to bring a change in the
society by providing good shelter, food and education with a high degree of
parental care in a family environment, care and discipline, irrespective of a
child’s birth, caste, sex, religion, background and nationality to the poor and
needy children, who will one day bring a big revolutionary change in the mind
of society, social structure, nation and the world. With this, we imagine a better
society and dignified lives to all.
Vision
To build an environment where every child
gets to enjoy their childhood rights and live
with self respect, dignity and change
according to physical, mental, spiritual and
social development.
Mission
To bring a revolution in alienating the child
poverty by giving them an opportunity to
proper education, good shelter and all
elements of child growth. We aim to create a
civilized society where there are no illiterate
and unaware people in Nepal. Indreni
Children’s Home is an effective tool to
eradicate child labor, poverty and social
discrimination.
Sole Purpose
Identifying the poor and less privileged children deprived of good
education because of extreme poverty and fraud of being street children,
child labors, pick picketers and criminals for survival. We provide them
    with an equal opportunity.

• Providing the abandoned children a complete family home for shelter,
care and love for their systematic growth, both physical and mental.
• Enrolling them in good schools in Kathmandu for their overall educational
    development.
• Interconnecting the socially responsible people to these needy children.
• Mobilization of youth spirit in running the organization so that they
become more sensitive and socially responsible.
• Providing a platform to grow their personality and initiative.
• Supporting rural Government schools by providing them with furniture,
    books and stationeries.
Indreni Children’s Home
Indreni Children’s Home has now 30 children from various districts of
Nepal who were in desperate need of help. Indreni is working with full
dedication and responsibility to help them overcome all the problems
seen and found during visiting their villages which involves many days
journey by foot.
With Indreni management team, a four storied building is currently rented
and shelters 18 girls and 12 boys. They are between the ages of 5 to 15
years. With basic utensils, the house is well run by a dedicated team of
staff who themselves lacked employment and in need of one. The house
is situated on the suburbs of Kathmandu in Sundarijal, far from the hustle
and bustle and pollution, has a big compound where the children can play
and do various physical and extracurricular activities aiding in the growth
of the children.
They are admitted in a boarding school nearby the house and they enjoy
reading English books and singing rhymes together. The home is small but
provides completeness to these children, something they always wished
for.

Stories of Children
Asma Gurung (7)
Parents are homeless so they sleep on the streets. Father collects recyclable
garbage and mother, who got married at the age of 13, works as a sex
worker. Both the parents are alcoholic. Her future was in great danger.
How she joined Indreni?
She was found lying on the street during a rainy day. She was picking up some bread
from the garbage and eating it next to her mother who was lying on the floor
unconscious due to drinking. Her little brother was suckling milk from her mother.
This is how she came to Indreni.
In Indreni Children’s Home
She is in contract of 5 years with Indreni Children’s Home and her
parents. Her mother infrequently visited her in the children's home. But
now there is a rumor that she has been sold in India for prostitution.
Dikki Dolma Lama (8)
She comes from the rural area. She is the youngest one in her family
among six brothers and sisters. Other brothers and sisters are illiterate
and works in restaurants as dish washer.
Her Parents
Her parents are potters and earn very little amount of money. It is very
hard for them to survive as well from the daily wage. Her parents are
great struggler.
Indreni Found Her
Since her parents could not effort to send her to school and give her
proper care Indreni decided to take her as one of the new comer. She is
happy to be a part of Indreni Chidren’s Home.
Laxmi (7), Malati (7), twins and Bikram (9) Pariyar
They come from a socially backward family. They are ill treated in the
society and considered as untouchables. People from such family has less
opportunity go to school.
Their Family Background
Father (35) and mother (54) has a small rented room. Father is a
drunkard and is mostly violent with the children and wife. Children were
found with scared faces and the mother was beaten into black and blues.
Laxmi, Malati and Bikram
Due to these reasons, Indreni decided to educated the children providing them
with food, shelter and protection with the family environment. They are
happy to be in the children’s home and are doing good in their studies.
Rabin Khadka (16)
His father expired when he was 3 years old, due to the blockade in his
urinary system. He has 3 illiterate sisters, 2 are married. He was sent to
Kathmandu to his uncle to help him with the house chores and study.
Uncle
His uncle was an auto driver. He used to help his aunt with daily chores such as
wash dishes, clothes, prepare food etc. But later his aunty expired due to heart
attack. So the work doubled up for him and therefore he did get time to study.
Studying in Indreni Children’s Home
His mother couldn’t retrieve him to the village since it was a hard life for
her alone to raise two children by herself. They are poor and has a hard
life in the village. This is why Indreni decided to take him in.
Sagar Tamang (11)
Both the parents remarried after they got separated. Sagar used to live
with his father but the step mother turned out to be the cruel one as in
the fairy tales and was thrown out of the house.
Found Sick on the street
He was found sick lying on the street of Boudhanath. Rokpa Medical team
took him to give temporary shelter in the Soup Kitchen. But after a month
when he got cured had nowhere else to go, except the street.
In Indreni Children’s Home
Therefore Indreni decided to take him to the children’s home to give him
proper education and a shelter to live in.
Shrijana Khadka (10)
Shrijana has 4 brothers and sisters. Father expired and mother has to look
after all the children. Since they come from a poor family background it is
very difficult for the mother alone to feed them well and educate them.
Contribution to family income
Her brother of 13 years works as a potter to contribute to the family’s
income. This is not enough for the family to get proper nutrition and
education therefore Indreni decided to take her in as part of Indreni Family.
Sushma Shrestha (14)
Both the parents are alcoholic. Always quarreled and fought with each other after
drinking. This not only effected her studies but was also expelled from her school
because her parents didn’t pay the fees. She has a great desire to study.
How she came to Indreni
Due to her talents and intensions to study Indreni decided to help her with
her studies and isolate from her parents daily quarrel. She wants to be an
actress in the future.
Yubaraj Gharti Chhetri (13)
Parents separated and disappeared leaving him behind with his grand
parents. Since the grandparents are very old and couldn’t take care of him
they came to Indreni and requested for the support.
