Here are a few counterarguments to consider:
- Children under 14 are still developing physically, mentally, and emotionally. Working could interfere with their education and healthy development. Maintaining childhood is important.
- Younger workers may not have the maturity and judgment to safely perform some job duties. Labor laws aim to protect young workers from exploitation or hazards.
- Employers may prefer older, more experienced workers. Lowering the age could reduce job opportunities for older teens if younger kids fill positions.
- Families rely on children's schools and activities to provide supervision during work hours. Younger kids would need alternate care arrangements.
- Unions and labor advocates generally support higher minimum working ages to prevent child labor ab
1. Persuasive Speech On Violence In Society
Today, I will strive to propose a solution to a problem which has plagued the world for as long as
society has existed. This problem has always failed to receive the attention it deserves. Although it
has not fully received proper attentions, nations around the world have tried and failed to resolve
this issue. I will now, to the best of my ability, introduce to you a solution which would undoubtedly
end this problem wherever it occurs.
Imagine this, a young boy being wrenched from his sobbing mother's arms by local militants,
kicking and screaming. These mothers are forced to watch their child being taken away, all the
while knowing it is the last time they will ever get to see their child. These children are then forced
to enter violent and dangerous groups where they often must hurt and kill other human beings.
Some of these children are even forced to become military sex slaves for these organizations,
constantly being abused by their captors until it becomes normal for them. This may come as a
shock to you in the great country of America, but it is a common sight in countries around the
world. There are more than 300,000 such children around the world. These children are as young as
seven years old when they are taken into these horrible groups. Some of these children aren't even
brought to these groups against their will, but are lured into gangs during their impressionable years
as a youth.
These groups actively recruit children due to many benefits that children

2. Smart Enough Women
In part I of the psychology in media project I reviewed the article "Why Young Girls Don't Think
They are Smart Enough" written by Sarah–Jane Leslie and Andrei Cimpain. The authors of this
article explored the psychological research they conducted – along with Lin Bian – which is aimed
at discovering the underlying cause for the disparities between men and women across academic
disciplines. In the media article published in the New York Times the authors concluded that
stereotypes are mainly to blame for these disparities. They also noted that these social stereotypes
start affecting girls as young as the age of six, and that the shift in thought is drastic. In a more
formal report which they published in Science Magazine, through a set of ... Show more content on

The writers do also state alternatives for the results of studies one to four, among them that boys are
held back which may inflate confidence and women's modesty norms. They also give reason for
why these alternatives are not possible. The writers omit writing about the alternatives all together
in the media article. All in all, I believe that both works are very well written informative pieces.
Both are concise, easy to read, and very get to the point. The main difference is that the media
article pushes a call to action by stating suggesting methods in which we can change how this
"brilliance=males" stereotype is affecting young girls. This is definitely an understandable
difference due to the fact that the media article is directed towards the general public, while the
science journal is mostly directed towards the scientific community. I believe that the writers did a
fantastic job in the NY times article, however I believe that the article would have benefitted from
using more real life anecdotes to show the extent to which this "brilliance=males" stereotype can
affect women. Altogether, I strongly agree with both the media article and the scientific journal,
something has to be done about this

3. Montessori Class Reflection
These two past weeks we have been doing a lot of lecture series in class, which I enjoy a lot, I feel
like I learn better when having a power point presentation to see, read, and listened to, instead of
just talking about something or reading it. This past week we also had our first paper due, our
thoughts and beliefs paper which we had time to talk about what we wrote about with a partner. I
thought this was a very insightful way to see how other people interpreted the same assignment, and
even though we both answered the questions we may have answered them in a different way or a
different perspective. So far in class we have gone over some general theories of play, some of
which I had already learned about in my developmental psych class, but others that I had not really
hear of before. One of the surprising things I learned was about was the Montessori schools. Up
until this class I had a negative connotation towards Montessori schools because one of my friends
went there for kindergarten through fourth grade and she felt like they didn't properly prepare her
for public schooling. She was behind in most of her classes, and didn't feel like she could easily
catch up. But after learning that the Montessori schools teach independence to children I realize how
she has often acted more mature and independent from people her own age. Although she was not
top of her class she was able to catch up and graduate high school with all the kids she started 5th
grade public school

4. Persepolis Identity Essay
People grow up in different way, affected by many different things as they grow and mature, during
the process people change perspectives and ideals. In the book "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi, a
middle eastern girl who is coming of age, finds that her environment changes her as the country that
she is in goes through an unstable violent state. With the rise of multiple changes, Marji's family
must learn how to adjust to the changing times. While Marji becomes a bystander to the persecution,
violence ,and revolution, the main theme of the book is stay true to one's self and forming one's true
identity through their own will. Marjane Satrapi shows how the quirky, but simple and
straightforward communist child in a changing world to a grown young adult who is confused about
herself and the world around her.
The story starts pre–revolution, while Marji, the main character is 6 years old. She has a concrete
grasp of her identity, even though very elementary and childish . At this age she only has one goal in
her mind: "At the age of six, I was already sure I was the last prophet." (6 Satrapi). She has clean–
cut idea of what she wants to do, which is to not discriminate on a class basis: "I wanted to be a
prophet because our maid did not eat with us" (6). Also, Marji she wanted to ease her grandmother's
suffering : " ...and above all because my grandmother's knees always ached" (6). Marji even
attempts to be an avid religious fanatic. She imagines god as her friend, guiding her as she goes and

5. Figurative Language In Richard Cory By Edward Arlington...
The narrative poem "Richard Cory" written in 1897 by Edward Arlington Robinson. Depicts the
fascinating life of a play boy protagonist who has a perfect lifestyle and has everything that one
could ever imagine, yet despite him being a out most perfect individual at the end of the story he
commits suicide. The poet was influenced with the interpretation towards how many individuals in
this world can assume that those who are greater always seem to have an outstanding life. As a
young boy Robinson wrote to his dear friend at the age of six, questioning why he was born
introducing a great element to his poems because at a very young age his life was tremendously
bleak. Throughout the story the poet utilizes various methods of figurative language such as irony,
point of view, and metaphors to introduce such elements of how life can be so great but despite it
being great others can assume that you're happy but no one really knows what you're enduring. In
this paragraph the poet demonstrates the emotions that the residents feel when they're around the
protagonist. Robinson implies third person point of view as "we thought that he was everything. To
make us wish that we were in his place." allowing the readers to comprehend that the protagonist
was more than just a typical normal resident in their neighborhood. Also conveying that those who
surrounded him were below their noble class that to them he was seen as "Clean favored, imperially
slim." informing the readers that he was seen as royalty. Despite the residents admiring his presence,
he was always filled with a fluorescent personality. The poet introduces this element "he fluttered
pulses when he says, "Good–morning"" allowing the readers to understand that not just his physique
was out standing but the way he had proper manners to say "Goodmorning" to those that surrounded
him. The poet allows the comprehension that the protagonist has always been an outstanding
individual.
Although the author describes the emotions that the residents have towards him they still envy him
in the way that they describe him more then what would be expected. Robinson utilizes metaphors
"richer than a king" to allow the readers to comprehend that the protagonist was very

6. Social Support Networks Lowering The Risk For Depression
Social Support Networks Lowering the Risk for Depression in Young Mothers
Introduction
Young mothers, those under the age of 25, are a special group of women. They can be wonderful
parents and love their children as much as older mothers who are more prepared for their children,
however younger mothers can have higher risks for some issues such as depression. There are some
ways that can help lower these risks and these include increasing social support networks for young
mothers.
The Aggregate
The aggregate chosen for this paper is that of young mothers. For the purpose of this paper young
mothers will constitute any mother under the age of 25. The aggregate of young mothers can be
linked to chapter 15, maternal and child health from Community Health Nursing by Stamler and Yiu
(2012). In this group of women some may be married, some single, some have higher education,
and some are high school dropouts, but they all are under the age of 25 who have one or more
children.
The Issue Affecting The Aggregate
One issue that is a concern for young mothers is a lack of social support leading to an increased risk
for depression. The risk of depression for a young mother is higher than that of the risk for older
mothers to develop depression (Lanzi, Bert, & Jacobs, 2009). The risk for depression is a health
issue as depression lowers the mother's warmth and sensitivity towards her child, which links to
poorer behavior in the infant, and also links to the mothers isolating themselves

When observing Presley, with her body size you noticed she is larger than the other children around
her. I was informed by one of the caregivers she is the oldest out of the children there. Not knowing
actual height and weight, comparing her to the other children, she was taller and looked fuller.
Presley is two years old and if fully walking. Under the gross motor skill, the third element in the
dynamic system; practice– unbalanced, wide–legged, short strides become steady, smooth gait,
Presley was surpassed that stage. She walked with her arms down, not out, and legs were close
together. The other children around her seemed to be in the practice phase. One fine motor skill I
noticed was a mouth skill, pronunciation. Her words were clear, making it easier to understand what
she asked for or talking in general. She said "zapatoes", which is a spanish word for shoes and was
said clearly and understood. Presley grasping was more focused on toys, while I was there she did
not get into any altercations(pulling hair/biting) with the other children. Because Presley is two
years old, I noticed more Tertiary Circular Reactions, rather than primary/secondary circular
reaction. For an example of stage six, when Presley was trying to put the shorts on the doll, she
placed the doll on the on the table and when she tried to put the shorts on the doll would slide
forward, making it difficult for her to get the shorts on. She had others around her and did not ask

"Alone on the Hilltop"
In Lame Deers story " Alone on the Hilltop" he recalls the moment in life when his first hanblechia
occurred at the age of 16. The first scene begins on the hilltop where Lame Deer had been brought
by
Chest, the medicine man. Lame Deer has been left all alone on the hilltop for 4 days nights with no
water or food. The only thing that he had with him where his star blanket which his grandmother
had knitted for him, a pipe with kinnickinnick, and gourd which contained forty pieces of his
grandmothers flesh and tiny stones picked up from an ant heap. Lame Deer knew though that after

Opinion
This in my opinion was a very interesting account of American Indian rituals. Lame Deer did a great
job on comparing and contrasting the "white folks" way of life with his own. He told us how Indian
children are typically never left alone which gives us a better understanding on why he was so afraid
of being alone on the hilltop. I feel like in this story I really got a better understanding of the Indian
way of life. They seem to be very tight knit group who value tradition above everything. Family
seems to be the most important theme as demonstrated by his grandmothers willingness to cut forty
pieces of her own flesh in order to make the rattle. This whole aspect about them is admirable but at
the same time I feel like they don't really take any actual logic into account. The whole vision
determines your life labor seem really fallible in my opinion. I can't really relate to this story in the
sense that I have never really experienced any of these things as im not a Sioux. I do think though
that this story can be related into our modern world in the sense that many kids are pushed into
choosing a life career at a relatively young age. Lame Deer was only 16 at the time but that is only a
mere two years younger than kids today. To some extent I found admirable that he at such a young
age had already known what his life's calling was. Overall the story

She also occasionally follows rules for the games and knows what to do when she wants to play a

Social–Emotional Development:
Social–Emotional – This is where the child is evaluated based on how she interacts with her peers
and how she regulates her feelings or emotions.
This domain was evaluated using the DAYC–2 and Battelle–2 even though she is older than the age
level listed since she is below age level in this area. She reached the ceiling in the middle of the 60–
months section in the DAYC and scored below age level as well, in the Battelle. She usually can
take turns and recognize some emotions. Fraidy enjoys interacting with adults and children but hates
when things don't go her way. For example: when something doesn't go her way she might drop the
game or start to act inappropriately by saying something off topic or repeating what she wanted
many times over. She will interact in games but not with songs or dramatic play with children her
age since they don't always follow her rules. She also is considered very immature both socially and
emotionally. The issue is that Fraidy acts inappropriately and gains attention that way because she
says things that are extremely funny. Even during the session Fraidy tried to act inappropriate and
gain some attention. Communication:

10. Official Age To Start Working Paper
Why is 14 the official age to start working? Why can't it be 12? I think that if people younger than
14 wanted to get a job then they should be able to. The age to get working papers should be moved
from 14 to a younger age.
First of all, it would let kids work if they want to. Some kids are very mature for their age and want
to work. If the age was lowered then kids that aren't very mature will become more mature.
Lowering the age will also build character. They will realize how hard their parents work and this
will make them more grateful and they will want to work harder. This is one of the reasons I think
the age should be lowered.
Also, lowering the age to start working will help families who need money. A lot of families need
extra money and with another person working it could help. They could save money earlier for
college or for a car. By the time they will be able to get a job they'll already be driving and they
won't have money to buy a car because they don't have money saved. Working will make them feel
better about themselves. It will make them feel proud that they are saving money and working hard.

12. Analysis Of Marjorie Prime
Production Response B: Marjorie Prime
1. The main question Marjorie Prime opens for the audience is, "what can technology do for the
human experience?" The answer to this question is tricky, but I think it was covered well throughout
the play by focusing on the idea of, " what would you say to a person you loved if they were still
here?" First, the definition of "the human experience" is all of the emotions and events someone will
experience throughout their lifetime; examples fitting for this play are grieving and death. The first
moment from Marjorie Prime where I felt the meaning was the first time we see Walter Prime.
Walter Prime is clean cut and smooth in his dark blue suit and oxford shoes. He could pass for
human, but his voice is eerily like that of a male Siri on iPhones. The whole idea of getting a prime
for Marjorie was so that when her memory is totally gone from her mind, it will still be in the
"mind" of the prime, and then he can feed her back her memories. The prime is in the form of
Marjorie's husband, Walter, when he was in his thirties. Both of these elements of the prime give
Marjorie back some companionship other than her daughter, Tess, and Tess's husband, John. We
learn later on in the play that Marjorie lost her son, Damien, to suicide. The prime is able to help
Marjorie's "human experience" by not relaying the painful memories of him back to her. He in turn
indirectly takes away her grief because other people can add or delete Marjorie's

Chapter Two
The wind is soft but strong, my hair flowing behind me and also in my face, I don't bother to pull it
back because I forgot my hair tie at home. "I could stay here forever," I say to myself. I am at my
favorite place to be when I need time to myself. I found this place when I was thirteen and have
been coming back since then. It is on the very top of the highest hill there is in the camp and there is
a beautiful old tree that has been there forever, I climb to the top and just stare.
All I can see are the very tops of the walls that keep the camp protected from the city. I can see
some decaying ruins of what must have been office buildings or shopping malls. I wonder what It
must have been like to live in the city when it was full of life. "Hey, Raven! The longer you stay up
there the faster you are going to become a bird!" That remark startled me and I nearly fell out of the
tree. I catch my balance and look down to see my best friend Brice yelling up at me. Brice Browder,
he's eighteen years old and I have known him my whole life. He is pretty good looking, but I never
had feelings for him. He has soft swoopy dark brown hair, green eyes and he is 5'9.

14. Reflection Of Rene And Rene Mora's Life
Rene, Rene Mora; I think that name will forever be engraved on my heart. As a little girl, I already
had my whole life planned out, but what didn't come to plan was being put into juvenile probation at
sixteen. His parents and my mother met in mandatory parenting classes, there, our parents would sit
and compare their children to each other. I had already known of Rene because we were attending
the same high school at the time, and the fact that I would always hear about him fighting at school,
but never would I had imagined that I would end up dating the kid. We officially met while we were
both in bad moments of our lives, but Rene ended up saving me in every day that a person can be
saved.
Sociological imagination is the awareness of the relationship between personal experience and the
wider society; it is understanding that some things in society may lead to a certain outcome. I like to
think it as stepping into someone else's shoes, I always do this before I throw away food or clothes.
Rene suffered with a high tolerance of anxiety; he reacted fast to something while he was full of
anger, and then apologized for it after a short period of time. These days, we unfortunately still live
in a society where some young men think proving themselves to others makes them "real" or
"down." A lot of them don't think abut loosing their freedom or family, until they are behind a steel
door or dead. Our book left out the topic of grief; I feel that many people suffer with it today,

To sign up or sign on?
Conscription in the UK is no longer compulsory so would you encourage your 16 year old child to

relation to this topic. There are some individuals who are very much against young recruits giving
up their childhoods for their Country, whereas others believe that the armed forces can provide
many benefits and opportunities that may not necessarily have been attainable to some young
people. I will explore these opinions and discuss some of the issues surrounding this topic.

The armed forces can provide an honourable value base that a recruit may not have necessary have

that at the age of 16 an individual remains a child, with limited life experiences and with the Army
requesting parental consent from those who wish to sign up below the age of 18 years of age, then
this might suggest the armed forces themselves are aware that at 16 an individual does not have
capacity to make the commitment, however, they are happy to enrol the child!!
Furthermore, do 16 and 17 year olds really understand what will be expected of them to represent
their country? Are they aware of the true horrors of War? Or do young, innocent and inexperienced
teenagers fresh from School naively believe in the glamorous aspects of war?

20. Character Analysis: Tyler
Everyone in life has their own set of problems at one time or another, but what says the most about a
person's character is the way they chose to act in spite of all the troubles they have faced, such is the
case with Tyler Johnson. When speaking to Tyler there is no trace of the hidden burdens he carries;
not in the genuine excitement for life in his eyes, his constant easy–going smile, or the way in which
he carries himself. It is hard to believe someone with so much happiness to give and spread has had
to deal with the struggles he has, especially at such a young age. While Tyler has inarguably dealt
with more than his fair share of life's hardships, he chose to make the most of his struggles by
overcompensating with a sunny disposition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He said that without the horrible things he had to go through, he would not be the same person he is

may never have applied himself and pushed himself so hard in order to succeed. Unlike most people
our age, he has a very strong sense of self and is incredibly focused and self motivated. He has used
his negative experiences to his advantage, all simply by the way in which he views thing. He refuses

21. The Grave By Katherine Anne Porter And The Story Analysis
Introduction
"Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person
's character lies in their own hands." Anne Frank said this, a girl forced into the world by something
she could have never even controlled, a world war. In the story, Eleven by Sandra Cisneros, the
story The Grave by Katherine Anne Porter and the story The American History by Judith Ortiz
Cofer are all stories that belong to The Coming of Age genre. These short stories portray a female
protagonist that is growing into the world around them. A world that they cannot control. In each
story, the protagonist is forced to grow and mature into something that they were not ready for by

Rachel already wants to grow old and be so far away from her childhood. Because of one altercation
with the girls she doesn 't like, she already wants to grow old and throw away her whole childhood.
Throughout the story she referenced growing up as collecting ages as you go instead of changing
into them each year, "Because the way you grow old is kind of like an onion or like the rings inside
a tree trunk or like my little wooden dolls that fit one inside the other, each year inside the next
one." She says this because instead of never being any of the those younger ages every again, she
thinks of it as something you can put away for when you are acting not like the age you really are. "I
'm crying like I 'm three in front of everybody." In this part of the story, instead of being 11, like she
really is, she is using the 3 year old inside her. She collects and later uses all the ages that she passes
along and adds them to a collection of feelings. In the end of the story, Rachel compares the passing
days of her life to a balloon floating away in the sky, "Far away like a runaway balloon, like a tiny o
in the sky, so tiny–tiny you have to close your eyes to see it." She knows that one day the red
sweater, Ms. Price, and all the other girls will be far behind her. She was forced to grow and mature

24. Age Norms Within The Age
Age represents the length and duration of someone's life however; age also comes with an
individuals experience and maturity throughout his lifespan. Age norms are considered to be what
society believes an individual should act due to their own age. For example, having a job as bus boy
at a restaurant would fall under the category of age norms because typically teens are the ones who
occupy these kinds of jobs. As opposed to being older, the age norms appropriate for a waiter is
someone who is a young adult or older. The difference in age norms in these two jobs is being a
waiter justifies you being an adult in comparison to being a bus boy, which people of younger age
usually occupy.
Acting your own age signifies the maturity one has. Although from time to time, we find ourselves
not acting our age in social situations. For example, the way I behave myself with my friends totally
differs from the way I behave with my parents. When I am with my parents I behave in a more
formal matter on the other hand, when I hang out with my friends the level of maturity and
formality drops enormously. When I am with my friends I feel that I don't need to act my age
because I am comfortable and let loose easier then if I am with my parents. A social situation in
where I typically don't act my age in is at concerts. In reality, concerts are age appropriate for
everyone but it's the way I react to the music and how I let loose that affects my level of maturity to
act my age. When, I

26. The Term Productive Aging Was Coined By Robert Butler
The term productive aging was coined by Robert Butler in 1983 at the Salzburg Seminar. Productive
aging was introduced in order to deviate from preconceived notions that all elders are in a declining
state of health and have limited functional abilities in comparison to younger counterparts (Butler &
Gleason, 1985). The basis of occupational therapy is closely tied to productive aging. All
occupational therapy practitioners share a common goal; to enhance the lives of all people across
the lifespan by teaching adaptive life skills, engaging in meaningful occupations, and promoting a
functional, productive, and fulfilled life regardless of age. Aging is not synonymous with 'declining',
and occupational therapy practitioners must look beyond the stereotypes and see the person as a
holistic being without focusing solely on chronological age.
Physical activity is especially important in regard to productive aging due to the health benefits
associated with exercise and other forms of physical activity. It is important that physical activity be
incorporated with a meaningful activity. For example, if a patient is not keen on exercise, it would
be best to engage in an activity that the patient would enjoy. Assessing the patient 's needs and
interests is the most efficient way to come up with an activity. Physical activities that are meaningful
may involve gardening, meal preparation, shopping, walking, swimming, dancing, etc. Ultimately,
physical activity lessens the risk of

As the world turns, people come and go. Beginning life as a small child and eventually adopting the
ways of the older people around us and thus complete the cycle of life. In the story of Miss and Me
Mandible Bartholomew merges the mind of an adult with the body of a child who takes on a
controversial role. While the child possessed the knowledge and the sense of a full grown man he
was looked upon as a mere child who could not make wholesome decisions. This unique
opportunity to delve into what it means to be an adult and child is the crucial question being asked.
Would people rather be naïve children with no responsibilities or knowledgeable adults with worldly
burdens? Being a kid is a wonderfully blissful life, depending on the childhood you received. They
are less taxing than adult life despite most situations, and this is a big plus. Playing, eating, being
sure to clean up before meals, and fighting the authority figures that demand a curfew hour are a
few concerns of a child's role. An uncomplicated way of life that many enjoy and there are people
around you to take care of your needs. No bills, no deadlines, no major responsibilities, but no
identity. Children barely have a self– concept of who they as they are generally attached to their
parents for the better part of seventeen years. Without fully understanding who they are, children
cannot be a wholesome individual but merely an extension of their parent's family. There is a huge

I reminisce whenever I cross a border. I get ecstatic and it makes me tremble. My mind takes me
back to when I was six and my parents owned a clinic in Tijuana, Mexico. I think about how living
in Mexico shaped my identity. Moreover, the thought of moving from San Diego to Tijuana at six
years old seemed compelling. Who would've thought that for three whole years I'd spend my
weekends crossing the border to purchase groceries or toiletries that were twice the price in Tijuana?
Furthermore, it was my duty to wake up at six in the morning and watch PBS kids or any channel
that would help me learn English. Moreover it was my duty to understand that I wasn't going to
have a childhood that involved constant family vacations or friendships. For instance, both my
parents worked at the clinic from morning till night dealing with patients and the smell of
anesthetics. Therefore, I'd always be stuck at home or at the clinic because to my parents, Mexico
was too dangerous for little girls like me. Moreover, I'd have a dental check up every Wednesday to
prevent crooked teeth. In addition, my mother always encouraged me to never lick my teeth, and
now I'm in a dilemma trying to figure out if that's the reason why I never needed braces. Notably,
my mother would tell me "Ponte las pilas", a Spanish phrase meaning to put myself together. You'd

30. Social Construction Of Childhood
Childhood, in the 21st century, has become the center of attention because of the highly influential
book "Centuries of Childhood" published in the year 1960. In the book, Aries (1960) argued that the
concept has been created by the modern history and further indicated that children were considered
as mini–adults before the 17th century. According to Dr. Montgomery (2013), the childhood in
1970s and 80s have enormously transformed in terms of their treatment and their lives. Moreover,
Dr. Montgomery revealed the contemporary and historical differences in the terms childhood. For
instance, children in the 21st century have fewer responsibilities and their lives are characterized by
school, play, consumption and family instead of paid labor, work, production and public life. This
implies that the standards of childhood differ on the basis of economic setting and traditions of the
societies. The purpose of this assignment is to describe the changes in childhood over the years,
while determining the role of difference in views and perspectives on childhood in creating different
expectations of the children.

This does not mean that the children were despised, neglected or forsaken; but what was meant here
was that the concept of childhood is based on social construction. Social construction, in simpler
words, is a theoretical perspective of exploring the negotiation of reality in everyday life, which is
done through the interaction of the people and discourses (James & James, 2008). Moreover, James
and James (2008) further simplified the concept by indicating that social construction basically

33. Emerging Adulthood : Becoming The Norm
Every individual is influenced, in some way, by the people and environment around them. I believe
that experiences in one's life, good or bad, are able to shape the individual into who they want to
become. As we can see, emerging adulthood emphasizes these types of learning experiences of
exploring and independently living. These times of exploration are available for individuals, who
live in a developed and economic society, because these individuals "marry later, have children later,
obtain more education, and have a greater range of occupational and recreational opportunities"
(Arnett, 2004, p. 24), which is why I claim I am an emerging adult because this is the type of society
I live in. Emerging adulthood is becoming the norm because societies advancements have granted
young people the chance to extend their time of exploration and have allowed individuals like me to
figure what I really want to do in life (Arnett, 2004, p. 24). The key features of emerging adulthood
––identity of exploration, age of instability, self–focus, age of feeling in–between, and age of
possibilities are qualities I have found that play or have played a part in my life.
The Age of Identity Exploration This is the time when young people explore the variety of
opportunities and possibilities in their life in order to learn more about themselves and possibly
about other people in their life. Arnett states that these different opportunities are found in love and

Disney has been around for many generations of people's lives and has had a true impact on most of
society, but now Disney is slowly straying away from the true purpose that they have built all of
their old work upon. No longer is Disney focused on being a "magical" company, but more of one
that has the most power in the world, which they have already been able to achieve. Disney now
appears to be profit hungry by producing films that relate to society rather than inspire it, or repeat
an old animation film through live–action, i.e. Cinderella. Society's influence on Disney became so
grand, with the demands of more feminist movies, different ethnicities, etc. that Disney decided to

While these perspectives have well thought ideas, from my view point, Disney is straying away
from being "magical" to slowly transforming into becoming a people pleasing company. All of this
helps them gain more profit and creates greed/lust for more.
Disney has been alive through many generations. As people age, the mind's thought process
changes. Due to this, it is said that people "grow out" of old interests, which some put Disney into
this. Instead of Disney being the one to change, it is the older generations. Disney supposedly aims
for a certain age group. In a journal by Towbin, children are discussed towards the beginning
because Disney is known to have a huge influence on them through media because media is how
they learn now a days and Disney takes a part in shaping their future. That is where the argument
appears about Disney not changing because if they truly changed, the children would not enjoy the
films as much as they do already, always wanting to be a certain Disney princess or another
character. Adults have already found their passion, how to function and go through life, this being
said, the Disney films are just there for the adults to watch for entertainment if wished, and if not, it
was intended for a child to begin with. Others believe Disney has changed their purpose of their
work, but for the better. The shell of stereotypes are broken within the films, and the

I predict that the kids in the story will not meet Boo Radley. The first reason I think they will not

always closed, especially on Sunday. You are supposed to keep the door open for fresh air and to
seem friendlier. In the town if your doors are closed, that means there is illness in the town or its
cold outside. Another reason he might be locked up is because he stabbed his dad in the leg with a
scissors. He was three years old when he stabbed his dad in the leg. According to the book his dad

The kids believed if you wanted to get killed, you could just go and knock on the Radley's front

36. Slang And Its Effect On Everyday Life Essay
The use of slang in my life today is very evident. My roommates and I always talk slang during the
day and the night. I don't use slang very much in text messages or emails partly because I don't feel
the need and I am normally emailing professors and staff members who expect me to respect them
by writing with proper English. Most of the time my roommates and I use slang when we are just
messing or playing around. Therefore, the use of slang in my classroom will be mainly for
educational purposes and limited because of the focus on standard English and the negative view it
may put upon the child. There is no doubt that people use slang almost every day. These people
might be just using it for fun and mocking others, while some may use it to protest the use of
standard English. The book, How English Works, by Curzan and Adams talks about how slang is
used in everyday life and thrives in places that involve pop–music, athletics, narcotics, and other
various factors (Curzan and Adams, 2012). I feel that Curzan and Adams are right on point when
they say slang thrives on these main ideas. For example, my roommates listen to music that has
slang involved in it. My roommates and I normally sing to some of the songs while they are playing
or even after they are done playing and use slang without consciously knowing because it is in a
song. Normally these songs get stuck in our heads and we end up singing the lyrics out loud using
slang almost every day. Most of the songs that we

37. The Importance Of Emerging Adulthood
Emerging Adulthood is a phase of a human's lifetime between adolescence and full–fledged
adulthood. The age range for this group is approximately 18–25 years old. Emerging adults are not
fully ready to take on adult responsibilities, but are expected to step up from childhood. This allows
for new experiences, enrolling into college, understanding one's own sexual identity, and to seek out
what future they want for themself. Most emerging adults will move out from their parents home to
get their own apartment, dorm, or house and will usually have roommates to help pay for their rent.
Jeffery Arnett suggests, "that emerging adulthood is a distinct period demographically, subjectively,
and in terms of identity explorations" (Arnett, 2000, pg. 469). This allows the individual to get
independence and self–reliability within themselves to get an idea of what it will be like to be living
as an adult in the later years to come. After living on their own, many young adults will move back
in with their parents after college or if they were not successful living on their own.
According to Arnett, "during Emerging Adulthood, young people are in the process of developing
the capacities, skills, and qualities of character deemed by their cultures as necessary for completing
the transition to adulthood" (Arnett, 1998, p. 312). The majority of Americans see big life events as
reaching and achieving adulthood. It is portrayed that those who have succeeded these events are

40. Biological Age Of Adulthood Essay
Going by the norms of the world, the status of adulthood is conferred on a person, on attaining a
certain biological age, but to be an adult in the real sense of the word, requires more than the
passage of a fixed number of biological years! For adulthood is a state of maturity of mind, that one
cultivates as years pass. And the concept varies in different cultural contexts.
The determination of a certain biological age of adulthood is not without reason and rationale. The
formal biological age of adulthood is determined according to the law of the land and varies
according to the responsibilities that it brings in its wake; for becoming an adult citizen it is 18, but
for the right to vote it may be 21. The rationale of a biological age ... Show more content on

In the Western culture, as a child turns 18, it is time to move out of the abode of the parents! And
marks the beginning of the independent lives; both socially and financially. The apron strings are cut
off and the children begin their adult lives, even if they are mature enough or not. But since they
grow up with this notion, they are mentally prepared for it and look forward to the joys and rigors of
adult life, whether it's a smooth or bumpy ride. On the other hand, in this part of the world, attaining
the age of 18 does not change the realities for the average affluent child. He or she remains under
the wings of the parents until they get a proper job or get married or sometimes not even afterwards.
Hence an adult in the West is not the same as an adult in the East! In the west you can actually
become an adult at attaining the biological age of 18, can make your own decisions, can earn and
support yourself and can have an independent social life and all the trappings of an adult life, with
or without the maturity of mind. But in the East you are practically never an adult, until you live
with your overbearing parents. The cut off age of 18 for so called adulthood, comes and goes away

In the book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, Postman states his thesis, "All public discourse
increasingly takes the form of entertainment which has out us in a position where we are "slowly
amusing ourselves to death". By this, he means that the media has negatively affected the level of
public discourse in contemporary America, and it considers media in a larger context to achieve that.
Amusing Ourselves to Death is a foretelling look at what happens when politics, journalism,
