Let us answer some questions about the problem.
a) Who helps our poor countrymen?
b) As a person, would you like to share in the fund raising campaign of the Red Cross? Why?
Now, let's start solving the problem.
121 000 - 96 032 = N
tickets given tickets sold tickets not sold
a. 121 000
- 96 032
0 10
b. 121 000
- 96 032
1 10 10
c. 121 000
- 96 032
1 10 9 10
d. 121 000
- 96 032
The Red Cross is an organization which helps the poor people. During the Red Cross Week, one of the Divisions in NCR was given 121 000 tickets to sell for Save a Life Project. The division was able to sell 96 032 tickets. How many tickets were not sold?
There are three consecutive zeros in the minuend, so we regroup all the places starting from the left most digit other than the zero.

b. 150 087
- 78 462
4 9 10
b. 150 087
- 78 462
Can you now follow the steps better?
Try the following exercises.
Subtract 2 from 10 equals 8.
Subtract 3 tens from 9 tens equalS 6 tens. Subtract 0 hundreds from 9 hundreds equals 9 hundreds. Subtract 6 thousands from 10 thousands equals 4 thousands. Then subtract 9 ten thousands from 11 ten thousands equals 2 ten thousands. The final answer then is 24 968 tickets unsold.
There are two consecutive zeros in the minuend, so we regroup at 3 places starting from thousands place.
Now you can subtract.
Now, you can subtract.

Find the difference.
a. 700 280 b. 7 800 000 c. 3 930 615
- 345 613 - 1 156 000 - 1 013 400
d. 2 900 603 e. 1 485 000
- 1 569 241 - 810 207
How do you find the exercises? Why?
