Sexual Roles And Roles Of Women
Question 1
Lovemaking
First the word, lovemaking, has a sex role attached to it, which comes from one or another person
being the dominant one. Lovemaking is dominated by the woman. The male is the passive one.
These two roles can be switched when dealing with this word. Some cases women like their man to
be dominant and make love to them. On the other hand, women can play the role to show their man
how to make love to them the way the woman ultimately desires to.
Fucking
When you hear the word it has a major presence about it. The word itself has a lot of dominant
characteristics attached to it. It commands your attention when it is spoken. When we hear a word
like this and it commands your attention, it seems aggressive and men are associated with
aggressive behavior. Men are definitely the dominant person when dealing with this word. While
women are passive.
Intercourse
This word says that dominance has no specific sex role. It can go either way, depending on the
situation. Both men and women are the dominant person. There is no passive person with this word.
This words is not as commonly used as the others, but it can be used in some tenses.
Intimacy
In this case the word has a nice and delicate tone when it is said. Dealing with dominance the roles
are switched from the normal dominant person. The woman is actually the dominant one. While the
man is the passive one. This is because women tend to care more about making a connection and
having their feelings

Women 's Roles And Roles
Women form a significant section of any society and have contributed towards its growth and
development despite their nationality. The history of the world is a witness to the role and influence
of women globally and their ability to create a positive change that favors humanity. In recent times,
there has been a significant shift in the dynamics of the modern world where the society provides
women with several opportunities to showcase their talent and make a mark for themselves in their
respective field of work. Women have proven to be successful in executing their roles and
obligations in the field of science and technology or even in the corporate sector; they have been
persistent in their level of success. However, the situations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Rockefeller Foundation conducted a national study by offering funding to the Global Strategy
Group to carry out a national level study on the American people. The national poll was conducted
on 1,011 adults who aged 18 and older (Ely & Rhode, 2010). The goal of the poll is to observe
the views of people within the United States of America regarding the role of women in the position
of leadership. The result reveals that businesses are falling short due to limited opportunities for
women to occupy leadership roles and responsibilities. Having women within organizations
especially at the leadership positions is not only beneficial for the growth and development of the
company, but it also plays a key role in advancing the careers of those women. There are several
ways in which this pattern or mindset can be rectified such as providing equal pay and rights which
create equity, altering office policies and methods that can be beneficial to both genders.
The United States had one of the highest service proportions in the world for women, which has
now decreased more than several European countries. The highest rate of women employment was
during 1999 which was 74% for women between 25 and 54. This rate has declined to 69% at present
(Rhode, 2016). However, there are several other countries where the percentage of women
employees has sustained to hike. These

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
1.a Gender roles are how a society believes a man or women should act based on their gender. Each
society has its own gender roles, where a man might be expected to do something in one society a
woman might be expected to do it in another one. An example of gender roles affecting women is
that women are expected to take care of the housework and so they do chores around the house even
if they have a job. Men are expected to be the breadwinner and support his family financially. Men
are not expected to be as much of a homemaker as a woman and women are not expected to be the
main breadwinner of a family. Gender roles offer advantages such as giving a person an idea on how
they are supposed to act and what they are supposed to do. However, ... Show more content on

Another example of how the process of identification passing could pass on traditional gender roles
is how the mother acts. Once again, the daughter would notice how the mother acts and would
emulate the learned gender roles she gained from her mother. In the end, the identification process
gives a reason to how traditional gender roles can carry on through multiple family generations. 2.a
I do agree with the video that Disney movies can influence a person's view on gender roles. I
believe that a child who watches the movies is soaking up the information that the movies gives out
regarding gender roles and how a person should act. When a child watches how a person acts in the
movies I feel that they think that that is how you are supposed to act due to them being so young
and not having any other references. It doesn't help that all the Disney movies end on a jovial note
which ultimately shows that all the appalling actions that happen in the movie is all right or even
normal. Because the movies end happily I feel that it further reinforces a child's view on how they
act. I say this because everyone is often untroubled and joyful at the end of Disney movies, and I
believe that everyone, especially a child, wants to be happy. Ultimately, I believe that Disney
movies can influence how a person views gender roles. 2.b There are many dangerous outcomes of

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
Men and women are consistently sexualized and misrepresented in the media. These
misrepresentations have serious implications on society and both sexes are constrained by these
ideals. These ideal depictions of masculine and feminine are threatening to the already distorted
gender roles. The media standards for beauty are outrageous and simply unattainable, putting
immense pressure on women today. Moreover media targeting men present a constant theme of
hyper masculinity that is normalized in male culture. Both exaggerations are detrimental to girls and
boys today.
As a child grows up no matter the sex they are socialized with rules and norms to follow that align
with their sex. The gender role is the behaviors, attitudes, and characteristics that are expected from
a person based on their sex. Boys must be aggressive, masculine, and tough and outgoing where as
girls must be submissive, sweet, caring and emotional (Schaefer & Halland, 2011. p.236). As the
child grows they become accustomed to these norms through socialization. There are many agents
of socialization that include, the family, role models, religion, education system, peers and most
importantly the mass media. Media has such a strong influence on everyone's life from the latest
smartphone connecting to social networks, TV and magazines; it is able to shape our culture and
influence public opinion and perception. Both genders are inaccurately depicted with hyper
masculine and feminine aesthetics.

Role Of Women In Society
The role of women in society has changed dramatically over the past few decades. Some may say
the changing of the role is a positive change, but some others may disagree. Women have changed
their lives for men and their ways of life, women have been restricted from using their own money
by men, and also women have had to deal with cleaning up everyone else's messes for years and
also years to come. In the articles and plays that were read several of these roles were demonstrated.
In the article The Total Woman by Marabel Morgan the role of having to adapt to the husbands way
of life was mentioned. " Adapt to his way of life wholeheartedly, even if he doesn't come home for
weeks.". The quote from the article above is saying that when ... Show more content on

HELMER. Don't interrupt me. [A little later he opens the door and looks in, pen in hand.] Buying,
did you say? What! All that? Has my little spendthrift been making the money fly again?". The
woman, Nora Helmer, is buying Christmas presents for her children and her husband did not
approve of it so he believes she is being a spendthrift. The way women could not spend money on
their own has changed greatly over the decades because women now have their own paying jobs.
Women now do not have to do whatever their husband or significant other tells them to do with their
money. Women in today's society do not have to have permission to spend their own money. The
next role may not have changed as much as the role just explained, but it still has a certain
significance. In the article I Want A Wife written by Judy Brady a man stated, " I want a wife who
will keep my house clean.". The man who stated this believes that cleaning is the wife or woman's
job. The role of women to be the ones to clean the house has changed over several years. Men now
know that they are able to clean for themselves instead of someone always doing it for them. Some
women do still clean their houses because they do not have anyone to help them or their husbands
still make them do it themselves. A lot of women get help now when cleaning or cooking. This role
of women has changed over several decades due

Women 's Roles Of Women
In most literary works throughout history, the culture and function of a society is expressed through
the text and reflects the affairs of that time period. In the Old English epic Beowulf, women seem to
be relatively unimportant. Many readers argue that the role of women in Beowulf is minimal and not
an essential part of the text. However, understanding the roles of women in ancient Anglo–Saxon
culture is critical to be able to discern how significant women are in the epic Beowulf. Women are
overlooked because there was such a focus on battle and war, and women did not aid in the fighting,
so there was a greater emphasis on men. Renee Yawdaev claims that Anglo–Saxon women were still
able to keep their dignity and respect by assuming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, they have a great influence in the mead hall, which is presented as the central social
element where people gathered to discuss major events (Sonia). The women were cupbearers in the
court, meaning they passed around the mead cup between the men. This responsibility seems like a
routine task for the women; however, this gives them a higher status within the court. Usually, the
cup is first passed to the King, or the most appreciable man, and goes down in order from there.
Considering the cupbearer decides who to pass the cup to, this gives them the ability to establish a
hierarchy within the hall (Sonia). The first time readers see this development unfold is during
Wealhtheow's first appearance in the poem."Wealhtheow came in,/ Hrothgar's queen... she
graciously saluted/ the men in the hall, then handed the cup/ first to Hrothgar, their homeland's
guardian,/ urging him to drink deep and enjoy it/ because he was dear to them" (612–618).
Wealhtheow gives Hrothgar the cup first, instituting that he is the most powerful man in the room.
Michael J. Enright claims that this makes her "an extension of and a support of his kingly power"
(qtd. in Sonia). As the cup makes it way through the warriors, Beowulf is the last man to receive the
cup because he is an outsider. Later on in the text, Wealhtheow appears for the second time.
"Beowulf the Geat, sat between the brothers./ The cup was carried to him, kind words/

Evidence Of The Changing Roles Of Women In Women And Women
evidence of the changing roles of female involvement within terrorist organisations along with
increasing numbers of female Islamic terrorists (Bakkers & de Leede, 2015; Lavina, 2015).
Terrorist organisations traditionally maintained gendered specific roles and women predominantly
provided a support type role (Bakker & de Leede, 2015). This was in the form of bearing children or
recruiters (Bloom, 2011). This has been evolving with instances of women actively engaging in
violent Islamic terrorism (Bloom, 2011). High–profile cases of home–grown radicalisation of
females of a British background like that of 'Samantha Lewthwaite' and Sally Jones' could be
examples of a new breed of female terrorist (Bakkers & de Leede, 2015; Berkowitz & ... Show more

It is hoped that an updated and more comprehensive analysis of female radicalisation and their
involvement within Islamic terrorist organisations will lead to a greater understanding of female
radicalisation and extremism and subsequently the development of more effective measures to
combat this phenomenon in the form of more gender specific counter–terrorism strategies (Saltman
& Smith, 2015; Musial, 2017).
Background/ Context
'Terrorism' is not a new occurrence; it is a common feature of Northern Irish history due to the
conflict of 'The Troubles' (MI5 Secret Services, 2016; Newburn, 2013; Wright, 2010). Traditional
terrorism like that of the IRA (Irish Republican Army) in Northern Ireland predominantly occurred
within local geographical parameters and against specific targets, it also operated in a fairly
predictable nature (Morgan, 2004, Wright, 2010). In order to deal with the threat of Northern Irish
terrorism, intrusive counter–terrorism measures were introduced (Mythen, 2014; Wright, 2010).
These were designed to deal with domestic and localised terrorism (Morgan, 2004; Mythen, 2014;
Wright, 2010). In recent years, the terrorist threat has expanded beyond local parameters (Wright,
2010).
Globalisation has blurred how terrorism operates and has aided the development of a modernised
terrorism (Aas, 2013). The Home Office acknowledged that terrorist threats have changed in recent
years and this is expected to change further unless an efficient solution is

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
Men and women have very different expectations and roles in the work force. In the past almost all
corporations have discriminated against gender, especially women. Whether it is women not being
allowed certain positions and/or promotions at a job, or women not being allowed into the field of
work that they desire at all. Women have also been discriminated by being payed lower wage and
made to work longer hours in unsafe and unhealthy work environments. Gender roles set
expectations that are extremely incorrect. A woman is just as capable at any job that a man is and
should not be discriminated against because of her gender.
Culture and society have a huge impact on gender roles, specifically among women. "Among the
ancient Celts women rulers and warriors were so common that when a group of Brigantian captives
was brought to Rome in the reign of Claudius they automatically assumed his wife..." (Irish,
Shawn). Women in some cultures like the ancient Celts had women in leadership roles such as
governing the people of their land. However, some cultures see women as nothing more than
someone to care for the children and keep the house clean. "Before World War II, the division of
workers into different jobs on the basis of gender was universally accepted" (Irish, Shawn).
Meaning that society found it morally right that you could not allow women certain jobs due solely
to the fact that they were women. Also, in ancient Rome, a common job for women was to work as a
"hawker". Hawking

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
Gender is one of the greatest factors that can determine how we define ourselves and others.
Although gender is determined at birth for many, it does not influence one 's identity of self until a
later age. How society views the roles of each gender influences how a person views themselves. As
the views changes, so does one's identity. In the past, the roles of men and women were defined and
separated. Men were expected to provide income for the family, while women were expected to take
care of the home. Doing things outside these roles caused negative reactions from the community
and frowned upon. Today, there is still a difference between men and women, but a lot of the roles
have become acceptable for both. Within my culture, gender roles have generally been set and
defined to conform to preexisting traditions. Men were viewed as strong and the bread–earner and
women were weak, unintelligent family care–takers. To this day, I feel this notion still exists in the
contemporary society due to the deep seated nature of Confucianism in the Chinese culture. Even in
Chinese school, we were assigned gender roles and taught proverbial stories instilled with concepts
regarding women 's inferiority and subordination to men by nature. These gender constructs were
enforced beyond childhood and some of my Chinese classes even imposed gender–specific
behavioral conventions. Many of my textbooks would mainly revolve around male characters as
opposed to female characters and there were

From the late 1990s and beginning of 2000, the women in Assamese cinema became more louder in
every role – their dialogues, articulation, their ways of standing for their rights and identity etc. No
more scripts were written where women are portrayed as tragic queens. The aspect of glamour and
high–budget cinema has especially given a boost to more of female participation into the world of
entertainment. The women portrayed today are somewhere or the other have a 'borrowed' portrayal

3.3.3.1. Self–context perspective:
History has witnessed where women were considered to be mere dependent individuals who does
not have their own 'self' and 'life' as their faith before marriage was considered to be tied to their
father and after marriage with their husband. That is why a widow's life was considered as a burden
on earth. Being a girl, none was motivated for education, no platform was built to set their career.
But there are instances where history has also seen women in some of the powerful positions. As
mentioned in the earlier chapter, while Jatra step down to Assam from Bengal, the women at that
point had the only option to appreciate as a spectator from far off. The role of women was played by
men itself and this continued for a long. By then came the theatre moment in Assam where women's
participation could not be considered so effortlessly. But later with the passage of time finally the
presence of women can be marked both in Jatra and other forms of theatre. Girls would dress in
different attires to represent mythological characters in Jatra. Young girls would love to dress up
with heavy make–up and with great zeal and excitement, to perform their respective roles. People
from nearby and far off villages would come to watch their performances. The loud applause of
audiences give them immense motivation to carry on and especially being a woman to receive
appreciation for their work

The Role Of The Women
The role of the women in ministry is a controversial topic that has divided Christendom today. There
are those who hold the fact that women have a right to positions in ministry while others are against
following some quotations from the word of God. Those who hold the view of women becoming
elders and preachers in churches today, protest the fact that we are all one before God. There is
neither male nor female following Galatians 3: 26 –28. This is to confidently assert the fact that the
sexes are joint heirs with Christ of full salvation. Some are standing on the fact that God gave the
Holy Spirit to His children including male and female for the propagation of His kingdom (I
Corinthian 12:7). From the creation story in (Genesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Actually women played crucial role in the early church: they assisted in composing letters (Romans
16:22), carried apostles messages to local churches (I Cor. 4:17), sought to encouraged the believers
on Paul's behalf (I Thes. 3:2), reported to Paul about the state of the churches under their care ( I
Thes. 3:6) and some them hosted churches in their homes (I Cor. 16:19). We have to be like the
Bereans to carefully study and be able to rightly divide. God does not change but He changes His
administration in different dispensations. I do believe Paul was called as an apostle to the church the
body of Christ, therefore whatever pattern he gave us as pertaining leadership in the church should
be strictly followed without questions. There two main passages in the New Testament that Paul
gives which might seem to be prohibition against the ministry of women I Corinthians 14:34; I
Timothy 2:12). It will be good to go through theses scriptures and bring out the truth of what Paul
intended. I Corinthians 14:34 – 35, Paul wrote: "As in all the congregations of the saints, women
should remain silent in the churches. Thy were not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as
the law says. If they want to know about something, they should ask their own husbands at home;
for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church. I believe Paul made this statement due to the
rampant disorder that was going on at the Corinthian church.

Roles Of Women In Roman Women
In my civilization of Rome, women in society have the duty of taking care of the home and family.
Love has almost nothing to do with a Roman marriage. It exists so that wives may produce children
to be heirs to their father's property. Every man wants a son to care for them in old age and
eventually take over the estate, since there are no retirement homes or pension plans. Age fourteen is
an average age for a young girl to get married. Women have weak judgment, so they are prohibited
from attending, speaking in, or voting at political assemblies. They also cannot hold any
governmental position. Egypt treats its women very differently in comparison to my civilization.
Egyptians believe that joy and happiness are legitimate goals of life and take home and family very
seriously. Women of Egypt are almost completely equal to men in regards to the law. They can own
property, borrow money, sign contracts, and initiate divorce. The men and women here love
children, and do not conceive children just to produce an heir to property. We Romans have a
practical attitude towards religion. The upper elite classes hold the priesthood positions. There is no
separation of church and state. We consider ourselves highly religious and our practices and beliefs
are our own. It is a part of our daily lives, and each home has a household shrine in which families
can pray to. We credit our religious customs to its founder Numa Pompilius, the Sabine second
second king of Rome. He negotiated

Women : The Role Of Women In The 1920s
The 19th Amendment, passed in 1920, marked an immense leap forward with regard to the role of
women in American society. The embrace of personal freedom by the "New Woman" is reflected in
the 1925 novel, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, by Anita Loos, and the 1953 American musical comedy
film adaptation by Howard Hawks. In the twenty–eight years that separated these works, however, a
different vision of society – and in particular, of women – arose, and this is depicted through the
presentation of female sexuality, gender dominance, and intellect, showing that the women of the
1950's were far more empowered than their 1920's sisters. A direct outcome of the economic and
social evolution of the 1920s was that the "New Woman" pursued her freedom by aiming to be more
than a household drudge: she saw herself as deserving to be pampered and spoilt by an adoring man.
Loos's Lorelei is willing to serve as arm candy for rich men who desire for beauty and good time.
As a product of capitalism, she equates culture with tangible assets. Both protagonists pursue this
goal without using their sexuality as a weapon to exploit the men they encounter for material gain.
In fact, the short hair, boyish look, flattened chest and knee length skirts were just a few ways to
describe the young liberal women of the 20s, nicknamed 'flappers'. Loos instead presents them as
stereotypical 'damsels in distress,' waiting for a prince on a white horse to rescue them. This rescue

Roles And Roles Of Women
The roles of gender are changing rapidly. Throughout U.S. history men have played dominant roles
and were always the family breadwinners. As women get more education and make more money
they are becoming the primarily breadwinners of their families. More women are working outside
the home and their earnings are important to the well–being of their families. What are the effect on
their families, careers and equal wages? The days of mom staying at home full–time are long gone
for most families. More women are their family's breadwinners than ever before. Heather Boushey
in The New Breadwinners, states "Women are more likely to work outside the home and their
earning are more important to their families well–being than ever before in our nation's history"
(31). In families today there's no one staying at home in the day, so there no one there when kids
come home from school with everyday life. Boushey wrote," nearly 4 in 10 mothers (39.3 percent)
are primary breadwinners, bringing home the majority of the family's earning and nearly two–thirds
(62.8percent) are breadwinners or co–breadwinners bringing home at least a quarter of the family

The first connection we receive is that Duke kills his duchess, so that he can persevere and have her
all to himself. His loves for the Duchess was strong, but sometimes lead to jealousy. The only way
they can be together and no one would get in their way is by murdering her. The Duke thought it
was okay to kill someone who he loves because it would be easier if no one else can have them, but
that is what you call abnormal or someone portrayed as a psycho. Murder is too extreme in this
situation and not always the answer. They could have talked it out or went to marriage counseling.
The idea of femininity and sexuality comes in to play because the Duke identifies his woman as a
inadequate object, but still loves and worships her at the same time. In the first lines of "My Last

other religions and cultures throughout history. In Judaism, the role of women is greatly overlooked.
Feminist and other females who feel passionate about their rights have changed the world for the
better even when they did not have much equality. These struggles in women date back to the
Biblical times, the middle ages, and even now in modern day, feminist Jews are still fighting for

Their roles were still emphasized as wives and mothers. Women were viewed as naturally suited to a
different social role than men, and sometimes known as inferior to men. This was a social issue
because woman had to be told where they were allowed to go and what they were allowed to do
according to their husbands.
The roles of Jewish women have truly have not changed that much throughout the years, although
some women greatly impacted the changes that have happened. The role of women in a synagogue
is limited even nowadays. Some examples of this is that women are not allowed to lead services, a
women reading voluntarily from the Torah does not count towards the obligations of the community

making them woman. Although this sounds harsh, men are thanking G–d for having more privileges

the roles of women. Therefore, the role of the Jewish women is not easily defined. Each woman

The Roles Of The Role Of Women In The Iliad
Throughout history, the role of women in the society has been a topic of debate. Men have
traditionally been viewed as superior since the beginning of time. As a war poem, the Iliad too
highlights the battles and decisions of men. The position of women in the Iliad can be analyzed in
two parts: the mortal sphere and the immortal sphere. Mortal women are less prominent than the
mortal men, who are either treated as the property of men (for example – Chryseis and Briseis) or
are typecast as interlocutors and stereotyped mothers like Thetis and Queen Hecuba. However, these
women are not completely without power or persuasive influence, as they affect the events off–the–
battlefield. In the other sphere, Goddesses like Athena and Hera, seem to be more powerful and
influential than their male counterparts.
One of the primary purposes of the mortal women in the Iliad is to serve as objects of prize or
bounty to the war heroes. This is shown from the beginning with the priest Chryses brining a
priceless ransom to win his daughter, Chryseis, back from king Agamemnon. Agamemnon,
however, firmly refuses and says:
The girl – I won't give up the girl. Long before that, old age will overtake her in my house, in Argos,

Women : The Role Of Women In Beowulf
It is apparent when reading Beowulf that women were regarded as beneath men in Anglo–Saxon
culture. The vast majority of the dominant characters in Beowulf are men. In fact, the only
prominent female character is an antagonist who is defeated by a man. The others are mentioned
briefly, and one of them even serves all the men of Heorot. Although one woman is a monster, one is
a hostess/bedmate, and another a violent queen who must be put in place, all of them serve several
purposes in contributing to the meaning of the work. The meekness and submissive nature provides
a stark contrast to the glorious deeds of the great warriors that makes their achievements appear
even greater.
The first and most prominent of the roles of women is the Cheerleader. This is also the role that ties
most strongly to the overall role of women in the epic. Queens Hygd and Wealhtheow are the two
women that most clearly demonstrate this supportive quality. Both are queens, and both direct their
energy and power toward the glorification of their husbands and the warriors of their kingdoms. The
first example can be found in the Mead Hall of the Danes in lines 614 through 615. Beowulf has
arrived and the Danes are greeting him and the rest of the Weather–Geats with an evening of
drinking. Wealhtheow, the Queen and wife of Hrothgar, regally enters the scene. "Adorned in her

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
Gender roles are social constructs that determine how men and women are viewed, categorized, and
stereotyped. In theory, gender roles seem benign: they are, after all, simply relics of cultural
tradition; in practice however, they have proved malignant, and are the root of many obstacles
women and men face in the United States today, confining individuals through archaic, sexist
assumptions and stereotypes. At the heart of this stereotyping is the idea that true women are
sensitive, nurturing, and submissive to the more aggressive, dominant men (Carlton). Gender roles
and associated sexism are the glue that binds gender to societal expectations about personality
characteristics, jobs, and colors. Despite the astounding progress women have made, equality
between men and women has yet to be achieved, and it is no question that gender roles are present
in today's society, contributing to the inequality women face. The impacts of gender roles are not
limited to restrictive societal roles and pressures, but also contribute to health–related, economic and
political inequality. Gender roles encourage the dominance of men and restrict the freedom of
women. Awareness of gender roles and their detrimental effects is absolutely necessary in order for
women to achieve true social and political equality in the United States.
Gender roles became increasingly rigid with the rise of the cult of domesticity; a social phenomenon
occurring in the early 1800s, which emphasized the role of

Women And Gender Roles
Woman's theology ties greatly with gender roles. Women are expected to have certain duties and
roles, and these common presumptions make it hard for women to thrive. Gender roles is the root to
woman's theology. Gender roles is how society expect men and women to act, speak, dress, and
conduct themselves. For example, women are expected to be housewives, the nurturer of the
children, and oblige to their men. Besides being submissive to their husbands, women are also
expected to dress in feminine clothing and have class. Men on the other hand, are generally
expected to be strong providers, and the protectors of the family; wearing masculine clothing.
Generalized gender roles are created through gender stereotypes. These stereotypes can be
considered erroneous ideas of the male and female attributes. In other words, roles are based off the
individual's desires, beliefs, feelings, and knowledge; therefore, attributes may vary for everyone. In
addition, while some don't condone nor believe in gender roles, others are guilty of presuming them
to be true. For instance, some people truly believe that all women should want to be married and
have children, and that all men should be the source of protection and affluence. In addition, women
are also expected to be emotional, while men are usually expected to be aggressive. Women are
expected to cook for the family and clean the home. while men are expected to make sure
everything in the home is repaired.

"I think we 're struggling with trying to redefine various positions at this point in history. To allow
freedom for women, freedom for men, freedom from those sharply defined gender roles " (Fred
Ward). I agree with this quote because in today's society gender defines the roles of what a male and
a female can do. What is gender? Gender, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is the state
of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than
biological ones). The term gender is only used when we describe how men and women are different
in a society but the actual term that really defines a man and a woman is sex. Sex, according to the
Merriam Webster dictionary, is either of the two main categories (male and female) into which
humans and many other living things are divided on the basis of their reproductive functions. The
differences of gender roles are something that is seen in many cultures. It can be seen in families,
society, in occupations, and in politics. This can be related in the field of psychology because these
can create a general notion of a person and what they are supposed to do and how they should
behave, or in other words what a person can create in his or her mind is stereotypes. Some

Women play an important role in any society. However, throughout history, women are held
separate and unequal to men. In "From The Thousand and One Knights, Aladdin's Wonderful lamp"
the roles of women is to find marriage and remain modest to the non–Mahram. Non–Mahram is
someone who woman can marry, and someone who women should cover their self in front of. In the
epic, from Sundiata, the role of women is defined only in relationship to men who hold a high
position in society and to show obedience towards them. Women in both stories are highly
influential. However, if there stories were read from a native person's point of view, such as a
Persian or an Egyptian, he or she would have a better understanding for this Islamic culture. Sharia
law is applied to every Islamic country. One of the laws allowed men to practice polygamy, where a
man can have multiple simultaneous wives. Marriage is a vital in a Muslims life. In Islamic
traditions, men are the head of their family and the women should treat them with obedience.
Although women's roles in both stories are very much unequal to men, women are highly depended
and needed in men's lives. The role of women in Sundiata and Aladdin is to follow Islamic traditions
of what a Muslim woman should be.

The possession of attributes or rather qualities that are traditionally associated with men is called
masculinity. Men have always felt superior to women while women are referred to as the weaker
sex. Boys are raised up knowing that they are the stronger gender and that there are some tasks,
which they can perform well than their female counterparts. The debate about equality for both
genders has dominated the media over the years, from the times of feminism (the 1980s) to post
feminism (Hokowhitu).
In politics, the belief about masculinity is still a major issue that has been discussed over the years.

country. Such discriminating talks by men have led to the rise of feminists like Phyllis Schlafly and
Michelle Obama, whose aim is to fight for equality between the two genders. Trump is against the
feminism culture that is slowly gaining popularity. The feeling of masculinity and the notion those
women are not strong enough to handle some physically demanding jobs has been a challenge for
those women who strive to compete with men in such areas of work. Michelle came up strongly
against Trump's campaign that is based on discriminating women by terming them as a weaker sex.
She talked about a post feminism era where people should be talking about equality and not a fight

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
Gender roles are a set of behaviors that indicate that a person should fit in to a category of either
being male or female. This is society's concept of how men and women are expected to behave.
These gender roles were commonly accepted before the twenty–first century. Society viewed males
as being the main financial providers for their family whereas women were viewed as the maker of
the home, raising and taking care their children. Men were expected to be strong,
athletic, aggressive, and dominant. While, women were expected to be weak, passive, nurturing, and
subordinate. Gender roles are assigned at birth, from then on children learn how it is socially
acceptable to behave by observing friends, family members and the media. Not fitting in to these
categories can be harmful. Most people have experienced sexism due to these gender stereotypes.
Sexism can be thinking or treating someone different because of their gender. For example, men
often get paid more than women for the same job and skill level. For some people it might be hard
to accept a strong, dominant woman or a passive and friendly man simply because they are not
fitting in to the category assigned to them. However, a lot has changed in the last few decades. More
and more women are seeking higher education with the intention of starting a career. Men are
finding it more acceptable and fulfilling to stay home with young children. The world is beginning
to be more aware of other genders such as intersex and

The traditional family structure was, although headed and led by males, supplied and sustained by
females. Contributing members of society are expected to ear their keep, usually by working in
some form. The way in which women were allowed to ear their keep was in the home. The Labor
Law instituted in 1930 promised to "liberate married women from the workshop and factory." Far
from liberating, it sought to ensure that women could remain in the home and "fulfill the only
purpose of Christian marriage: reproduction." This regulation did not serve as protection, but merely
assigns a positive spin on the concept of limiting women's potential. Women made up a slim
percentage of those educated at the secondary level and therefore qualified for few professional
positions, they did dominate "training for magisterio, elementary school teaching." This unusual
statistic evidence that there were indeed ways to seek employment, but even within there is a
reminder of the types of roles in which the women who were allowed to contribute could be placed.
For women seeking work, professional options were generally limited to becoming domestic
servants, ticket sellers or office workers, nurses, pharmacists, or teachers. Significant number of
prostitutes remained though brothels had been outlawed. The main draw to prostitution was the
high–income opportunity. Women needed to gain the permission of many to begin a job, so this
covert business was a tactic in which women could circumvent

Women : The Role Of Women In The Police
The role of women in policing has been traditionally very limited. The major reason behind this is
because the men in control of the police departments reflect general attitudes of a large part of their
communities. They believe that women should only be used in few positions that require juvenile
work. These attitudes have led to the creation of the obstacles that women pursuing a career in
policing face. Many police men have outlooks of women that are offensive and degrading. During
numerous interviews with police men in the 1970's many male prejudices were expressed. "I believe
in male supremacy" said a chief in a major city, "I wouldn't mind having a few good looking women
around to help the men's morale" said the head of patrol of another major department. (Milton,
1972) Women have experienced workplace issues such as sexual harassment, discrimination and
lack of role models. (Milton, 1972) For example, police men at the LAPD had formed an
organization called Men against Women. (Wells et al, 2005) It was for the purpose of harassment,
intimidation, and even criminal activity against police women. (Wells et al, 2005) Women have had
it rough being in the police department, they would sometimes be held to a higher level of
performance and were not given equal consideration for specialty jobs. (Wells et al, 2005) It was
found that police men wanted a partner who was tough and would fight and back them up. There

The Role Of Women In Japan
The role of women in Japan has been influenced by the many changes that the country has
integrated over the years. In the past, women were full time housewives. They would work until
marriage, and then retire to take care of their household, as men were seen as the sole breadwinners
of the house. There are a large number of behavioral expectations for women, like cleanliness,
modesty, courtesy and much more. Japanese women were expected to take care of the personal
appearance, their homes, and attend to guests by preparing food or tea. In ancient Japan, women
were given the smallest roles in society. Women in Japan were not able to divorce their husbands',
however, husbands were able to divorce their wives if they felt that they were not fulfilling their
duties. Though, a great deal has changed in Japan after World War II. Japanese people's attitude
toward divorce had changed as much as their attitude toward marriage. New laws had been placed
and with the western influence, people became more open minded. According to Yoko Tokuhiro, it
is common to find that Japanese women delay marriage until later to experience life more before
settling down. Women even work after marriage or childbirth and some even choose to become
career women (Marriage in Contemporary Japan, 44). Women now have the right to own properties,
vote and work. Japan continues to adopt western culture, and as a result, women now have a larger
role in society.

Role Of Women In Dracula
The Power Struggle in Bram Stoker's Dracula
Bram Stoker's Dracula is a highly controversial novel written in the Victorian Era. The Victorian era
was a time when gender played a very restrictive role in society. Men and women were expected to
follow certain behavior and to stay within the conventions of the time. In Dracula, the reader
encounters "the new woman", a woman who does not stay within the bounds of Victorian gender
tradition. The reader also gains insight into the dominate role that men play in the novel and how the
patriarchy impacts society. There are two opinions among critics, one being that the men primarily
dictate the events and characterization in the novel, or the second argument being that women
actually fulfill this role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many critics argue that the men completely dictate the plot and the behavior of most characters in
the novel. The Crew of Light primarily perpetuates the patriarchy and control women. Mitchell R.
Lewis concludes that the male plays the most significant role in dictating the basis of the novel. In
his entry about Dracula he states, "The efforts of the male characters to kill Dracula are really efforts
to subordinate female sexuality to the Victorian institution of heterosexual marriage, in which
women primarily play the prescribed roles of wife and mother. It is also an effort to save the
embattled masculinity of the male characters.". The male characters are constantly plotting to
uphold the patriarchy and to force women to act how they want them to, weather they know it or
not. The men must prove their masculinity and dominance over the woman. In another gender
criticism, Sos Eltis takes a similar view. Eltis cites multiple events in the text where masculinity is
triumphing over femininity and prolonging the familiar, traditional gender roles of Victorian society.
He talks of the killing of Lucy saying, "The staking of Lucy is described in overtly sexual terms, as
a reassertion of masculine dominance and sexual aggression ... Arthur Holmwood becomes the
embodiment of determined, self–controlled, masculinity." (456). Both critics agree that one of the

The Role Of Women In America
In July 1848, the Seneca Falls Convention, held by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott,
became the first meeting to be held on behalf of women's rights. It was at this convention that the
Declaration of Sentiments was drafted, and modeled after the Declaration of Independence by
asserting the equality of men and women throughout the document. This was to show that men were
not the only one who had the right to equality, but also woman. At the time, not everyone, even
women, believe in the the idea of women being equal to men because in this century it was believe
women were fragile creatures who only live within the domestic and social sphere. Within the past
few decades the role of women in America changed dramatically; they have right to vote, to
education, to work, etc. Yet substantial inequalities remain between women and men.

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
Everyday you hear women and men being compared in life. A majority of the time it is in a form of
men being more superior than women rather it 's stereotypes, appearances, or money; Men usually
end up more dominant. Society tends to assume that men are more capable than women in all
aspects throughout life. These postulations have commenced before we were even born. Men are
expected to constantly be working and providing the home for the women and children; Women are
assumed to be cleaning, cooking and taking care of the children in the house. There multitudinous
assumptions made towards men and women affect the way we live. Expectations like these are why
patriarchal societies are composed. Patriarchal society means that men over rule the women in many
ways and are more dominant causing a contrasting way of life. It has become more instinctive for
humans to think this particular way because they are being circumvented by these assumptions
everyday. Throughout literature, it is clear that men and women make gender role assumptions
during all different time frames forming patriarchal societies. From the novels Things Fall Apart by
Chinua Achebe, A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen, and Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire the male
characters show how they specifically formed a patriarchal society with how dominant they are to
the women characters in the novels due to the assumptions that men and women make about gender
roles. Gender roles are an astronomically immense part in male

Gender Roles "Gender is the costume, a mask, a straightjacket in which men and women dance their
unequal dance" (Kearl). Throughout history, women have been treated with unequal and unjust
standards in comparison to their male counterparts. This paper will discuss gender roles in society
and the stereotypes placed on men and women. As well as gender role development and the different
influences that lead to these roles and stereotypes. Also, it will outline the history and progress of
women's rights from the early 1900's until present day, going over the key points of change.
Gender Role Development– Gender roles are a social construction formed by socially and culturally
defined beliefs about the behavior and emotions of men and women. Gender behaviors are learned
and continue to develop through early childhood. Beginning at about two to three years of age, the
child attains their gender identity. Gender identity is an individual's sense of their own gender. This
stage can be summed up by saying the individual starts to become aware of what their gender is, and
tell the difference between both sexes. The next stage in gender role development is gender stability,
this occurs between four to five years of age. During this stage, an individual acknowledges that
their gender will remain the same for the duration of their life. The final step in this developmental
process is gender consistency, this occurs between six and eight years of age. The main theory for

Women : The Role Of Women In Beowulf
Beowulf is a tale filled with battles and heroes going through journeys to save the day. Men were
dominate for without them and their strength, the constant state of war would mean nothing. In
Beowulf, the role of women is less important than men but they are still vital in keeping the society
together. Expectations for women were to be the caregiver not protector and fighter like men, yet
they were still important just oversaw different responsibilities. Women were weak and in constant
need of a man for protection. They were valued in society as the wife, child–bearer, and in highest
respect hostess. In the succeeding paragraph, the value of women and marriage in early English
societies is discussed.
Women needed protection for they could not fight for themselves. Before they got married, women
were under their father's protection, which led to many marrying into families of wealth and power
and from then on, being under the safety of their husband. This is significant for it shows how
women were not seen as the strong side of relationships or in general. Women were seen as weak
and as though they needed constant protection, hence marriage into good families. In most cultures,
women did not have much of a say in who they married but depending on the woman she could be
respected and marry into a good family line. Renee Yewdaev, a writer on Beowulf, stated, "A
woman's first loyalty was to her husband, whom she had to obey. She was expected to see to his

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
Gender refers to the masculine and feminine attributes assigned to either sex. Culture and biology
determine the moral, intellectual, and emotional differences between males and females. Biology
partially determines gender constructions of men and women. A woman's ability to conceive or a
man's natural strength are all examples of biological gender. However, I believe a larger proportion
of personal gender is formulated through cultural believes and values. Cultures create gender
through social practices such as education, employment, or child rearing. These activities slot men
and women into different positions of power. Traditionally, wife and mother are roles accepted by
the women, the men undertake roles such as wage earner and decision maker, accepting positions
that are more powerful. Women and men accept personal moral, intellectual, and emotional
characteristics to suit their designated roles.
I will be discussing these topics from the 'Taming of the Shrew' which contextualizes gender
surrounding marriage, '10 Things I Hate about You', providing insight into relationships and
pressures of gender in our educational institutions or families and lastly, 'Anchorman' which

Role Of Women In Frankenstein
The Temperament of the Natural Role of Women in Frankenstein The scientific advances in
Frankenstein led to disastrous consequences, but on a more biological level than one would think.
The author, Mary Shelley was a woman born in Somers Town, London, in 1797. She was raised by
her father William Godwin, who was a writer and philosopher. When she wrote "Frankenstein,"
Shelley portrays a determined, male character, Victor Frankenstein as an obsessed scientist who
creates a so–called "monster"out of various body parts he dug up out of a graveyard. The reason for
the description, "so–called 'monster'" is because a true monster is evil, inhumane, and lacks remorse.
In addition to this, the stigma around appearance being sociated with monster–like ... Show more

It's important to realize that Frankenstein's nineteenth– century is founded on the division of gender
roles: the male inhabits the public sphere, the female is relegated to domestic sphere. For example,
the men in all work outside the home, as public servants, scientists, merchants, or explorers. Also,
the women are confined to the home; Elizabeth, for instance, is not permitted to travel with Victor.
Interestingly, this is the reason why his wife wasn't involved with the idea of this experiment.
Throughout the novel, intellectual activity is segregated from emotional activity. With this in mind,
Victor Frankenstein cannot do scientific research and think lovingly of Elizabeth and his family at
the same time. While working on his experiment, he states "to forget those friends who were so
many miles absent, and whom I had not seen for so long a time," ( Shelley 50) which means he
became disconnected from his relationships. This directly to his downfall because Frankenstein
cannot work and love at the same time. This results in him failing to feel empathy for the creature.
The reason for this is because being in isolation for so long, he starts to lose his sense of humility.
By not maintaining a loving relationship with his wife, he lost his reason to show compassion. Also,
he fails to love or feel any parental responsibility. As a matter of fact, Frankenstein manages to
eliminate the biological role of women, but didn't fulfill the motherly aspect. He fails to raise the
monster as a mother would raise a child. The reason for this is because he created the monster for
his own personal gain. Women, on the other hand, give birth with the intention to nurture and
raising a life. By eliminating the biological role of women, but not fulfilling the motherly aspect, it
results in the monster seeking revenge on his creator,

Gender Roles And Roles Of Women
War films like 300 (2006) maintain and amplify the stereotypical roles of males and females, where
males are portrayed as the ones who have to serve as defender of all. The film industry mainly
classified the conventional gender roles of society into their movies; majority of films have
supported some of the male and female stereotypes. In the history of the film industry, the role of
men is primarily the stereotypical working class man or hero, while the roles of women are
primarily portrayed as being somewhat inferior to men. In the 1930s through the 1970s, men held
the leading roles in films while women played smaller roles. In terms of jobs, women were given
mostly family roles and rarely were shown outside of their homes, while men had successful careers
and did many activities outside of home. As women were given a more active role in society, the
gender roles in movies changed. However, many types of gender stereotypes in films still exist. Men
are typically portrayed to be the hero, while women are often portrayed as sexual objects. In the
movie 300 and according to "8 Reasons It Wasn 't Easy Being Spartan.", the Spartan men served and
protected the city of Sparta, while the Spartan women did domestic chores and were just to be there

Gender Roles Of Women And Women
A gender role is simply a behavior that may be learned by a person that is so called "accepted" into
society or a cultural normality. For example, men are known for supporting the family the most such
as keeping the food on the table and being most of the income that comes into the household.
Women on the other hand are normally looked upon as house cleaners, childcare givers, and less
responsible jobs inside the house. Gender stereotypes are a little bit different; this is a way of seeing
someone, as they appear just based on their gender. (Rathus, 2010, p. 526) Such as some men like to
watch sports or play them, not all men watch or play sports but people assume so. Women are
normally the ones who are seen but not heard. That is not always the case; some women like to be
either the center of attention or want their voice heard, eliminating the stereotype of women being
dependent on men for everything. Some obvious physical differences between men and women are
men have a lot more facial hair. Males have deeper voices, they have different sexual organs, and
men also tend to a lot more aggressive because of their greater amount of testosterone in their
bodies. Also in relationships men choose the "fight or flight" method which is either the men fight
about whatever it is, or they leave and move on without getting into an argument. Women on the

  • 1. Sexual Roles And Roles Of Women Question 1 Lovemaking First the word, lovemaking, has a sex role attached to it, which comes from one or another person being the dominant one. Lovemaking is dominated by the woman. The male is the passive one. These two roles can be switched when dealing with this word. Some cases women like their man to be dominant and make love to them. On the other hand, women can play the role to show their man how to make love to them the way the woman ultimately desires to. Fucking When you hear the word it has a major presence about it. The word itself has a lot of dominant characteristics attached to it. It commands your attention when it is spoken. When we hear a word like this and it commands your attention, it seems aggressive and men are associated with aggressive behavior. Men are definitely the dominant person when dealing with this word. While women are passive. Intercourse This word says that dominance has no specific sex role. It can go either way, depending on the situation. Both men and women are the dominant person. • 2. Women 's Roles And Roles Women form a significant section of any society and have contributed towards its growth and development despite their nationality. The history of the world is a witness to the role and influence of women globally and their ability to create a positive change that favors humanity. In recent times, there has been a significant shift in the dynamics of the modern world where the society provides women with several opportunities to showcase their talent and make a mark for themselves in their respective field of work. Women have proven to be successful in executing their roles and obligations in the field of science and technology or even in the corporate sector; they have been persistent in their level of success. However, the situations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Rockefeller Foundation conducted a national study by offering funding to the Global Strategy Group to carry out a national level study on the American people. The national poll was conducted on 1,011 adults who aged 18 and older (Ely & Rhode, 2010). The goal of the poll is to observe the views of people within the United States of America regarding the role of women in the position of leadership. The result reveals that businesses are falling short due to limited opportunities for women to occupy leadership roles and responsibilities. Having women within organizations especially at the leadership positions is not only beneficial for the growth and development of the company, but it also plays a key role in advancing the careers of those women. There are several ways in which this pattern or mindset can be rectified such as providing equal pay and rights which create equity, altering office policies and methods that can be beneficial to both genders. The United States had one of the highest service proportions in the world for women, which has now decreased more than several European countries. The highest rate of women employment was during 1999 which was 74% for women between 25 and 54. This rate has declined to 69% at present (Rhode, 2016). However, there are several other countries where the percentage of women employees has sustained to hike. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Gender Roles Of Women And Women 1.a Gender roles are how a society believes a man or women should act based on their gender. Each society has its own gender roles, where a man might be expected to do something in one society a woman might be expected to do it in another one. An example of gender roles affecting women is that women are expected to take care of the housework and so they do chores around the house even if they have a job. Men are expected to be the breadwinner and support his family financially. Men are not expected to be as much of a homemaker as a woman and women are not expected to be the main breadwinner of a family. Gender roles offer advantages such as giving a person an idea on how they are supposed to act and what they are supposed to do. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example of how the process of identification passing could pass on traditional gender roles is how the mother acts. Once again, the daughter would notice how the mother acts and would emulate the learned gender roles she gained from her mother. In the end, the identification process gives a reason to how traditional gender roles can carry on through multiple family generations. 2.a I do agree with the video that Disney movies can influence a person's view on gender roles. I believe that a child who watches the movies is soaking up the information that the movies gives out regarding gender roles and how a person should act. When a child watches how a person acts in the movies I feel that they think that that is how you are supposed to act due to them being so young and not having any other references. It doesn't help that all the Disney movies end on a jovial note which ultimately shows that all the appalling actions that happen in the movie is all right or even normal. Because the movies end happily I feel that it further reinforces a child's view on how they act. I say this because everyone is often untroubled and joyful at the end of Disney movies, and I believe that everyone, especially a child, wants to be happy. Ultimately, I believe that Disney movies can influence how a person views gender roles. 2.b There are many dangerous outcomes of traditional female ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gender Roles Of Women And Women Men and women are consistently sexualized and misrepresented in the media. These misrepresentations have serious implications on society and both sexes are constrained by these ideals. These ideal depictions of masculine and feminine are threatening to the already distorted gender roles. The media standards for beauty are outrageous and simply unattainable, putting immense pressure on women today. Moreover media targeting men present a constant theme of hyper masculinity that is normalized in male culture. Both exaggerations are detrimental to girls and boys today. As a child grows up no matter the sex they are socialized with rules and norms to follow that align with their sex. The gender role is the behaviors, attitudes, and characteristics that are expected from a person based on their sex. Boys must be aggressive, masculine, and tough and outgoing where as girls must be submissive, sweet, caring and emotional (Schaefer & Halland, 2011. p.236). As the child grows they become accustomed to these norms through socialization. There are many agents of socialization that include, the family, role models, religion, education system, peers and most importantly the mass media. Media has such a strong influence on everyone's life from the latest smartphone connecting to social networks, TV and magazines; it is able to shape our culture and influence public opinion and perception. Both genders are inaccurately depicted with hyper masculine and feminine aesthetics. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Role Of Women In Society The role of women in society has changed dramatically over the past few decades. Some may say the changing of the role is a positive change, but some others may disagree. Women have changed their lives for men and their ways of life, women have been restricted from using their own money by men, and also women have had to deal with cleaning up everyone else's messes for years and also years to come. In the articles and plays that were read several of these roles were demonstrated. In the article The Total Woman by Marabel Morgan the role of having to adapt to the husbands way of life was mentioned. " Adapt to his way of life wholeheartedly, even if he doesn't come home for weeks.". The quote from the article above is saying that when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... HELMER. Don't interrupt me. [A little later he opens the door and looks in, pen in hand.] Buying, did you say? What! All that? Has my little spendthrift been making the money fly again?". The woman, Nora Helmer, is buying Christmas presents for her children and her husband did not approve of it so he believes she is being a spendthrift. The way women could not spend money on their own has changed greatly over the decades because women now have their own paying jobs. Women now do not have to do whatever their husband or significant other tells them to do with their money. Women in today's society do not have to have permission to spend their own money. The next role may not have changed as much as the role just explained, but it still has a certain significance. In the article I Want A Wife written by Judy Brady a man stated, " I want a wife who will keep my house clean.". The man who stated this believes that cleaning is the wife or woman's job. The role of women to be the ones to clean the house has changed over several years. Men now know that they are able to clean for themselves instead of someone always doing it for them. Some women do still clean their houses because they do not have anyone to help them or their husbands still make them do it themselves. A lot of women get help now when cleaning or cooking. • 6. Women 's Roles Of Women In most literary works throughout history, the culture and function of a society is expressed through the text and reflects the affairs of that time period. In the Old English epic Beowulf, women seem to be relatively unimportant. Many readers argue that the role of women in Beowulf is minimal and not an essential part of the text. However, understanding the roles of women in ancient Anglo–Saxon culture is critical to be able to discern how significant women are in the epic Beowulf. Women are overlooked because there was such a focus on battle and war, and women did not aid in the fighting, so there was a greater emphasis on men. Renee Yawdaev claims that Anglo–Saxon women were still able to keep their dignity and respect by assuming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, they have a great influence in the mead hall, which is presented as the central social element where people gathered to discuss major events (Sonia). The women were cupbearers in the court, meaning they passed around the mead cup between the men. This responsibility seems like a routine task for the women; however, this gives them a higher status within the court. Usually, the cup is first passed to the King, or the most appreciable man, and goes down in order from there. Considering the cupbearer decides who to pass the cup to, this gives them the ability to establish a hierarchy within the hall (Sonia). The first time readers see this development unfold is during Wealhtheow's first appearance in the poem."Wealhtheow came in,/ Hrothgar's queen... she graciously saluted/ the men in the hall, then handed the cup/ first to Hrothgar, their homeland's guardian,/ urging him to drink deep and enjoy it/ because he was dear to them" (612–618). Wealhtheow gives Hrothgar the cup first, instituting that he is the most powerful man in the room. Michael J. Enright claims that this makes her "an extension of and a support of his kingly power" (qtd. in Sonia). As the cup makes it way through the warriors, Beowulf is the last man to receive the cup because he is an outsider. Later on in the text, Wealhtheow appears for the second time. • 7. Evidence Of The Changing Roles Of Women In Women And Women evidence of the changing roles of female involvement within terrorist organisations along with increasing numbers of female Islamic terrorists (Bakkers & de Leede, 2015; Lavina, 2015). Terrorist organisations traditionally maintained gendered specific roles and women predominantly provided a support type role (Bakker & de Leede, 2015). This was in the form of bearing children or recruiters (Bloom, 2011). This has been evolving with instances of women actively engaging in violent Islamic terrorism (Bloom, 2011). High–profile cases of home–grown radicalisation of females of a British background like that of 'Samantha Lewthwaite' and Sally Jones' could be examples of a new breed of female terrorist (Bakkers & de Leede, 2015; Berkowitz & ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is hoped that an updated and more comprehensive analysis of female radicalisation and their involvement within Islamic terrorist organisations will lead to a greater understanding of female radicalisation and extremism and subsequently the development of more effective measures to combat this phenomenon in the form of more gender specific counter–terrorism strategies (Saltman & Smith, 2015; Musial, 2017). Background/ Context 'Terrorism' is not a new occurrence; it is a common feature of Northern Irish history due to the conflict of 'The Troubles' (MI5 Secret Services, 2016; Newburn, 2013; Wright, 2010). Traditional terrorism like that of the IRA (Irish Republican Army) in Northern Ireland predominantly occurred within local geographical parameters and against specific targets, it also operated in a fairly predictable nature (Morgan, 2004, Wright, 2010). In order to deal with the threat of Northern Irish terrorism, intrusive counter–terrorism measures were introduced (Mythen, 2014; Wright, 2010). These were designed to deal with domestic and localised terrorism (Morgan, 2004; Mythen, 2014; Wright, 2010). In recent years, the terrorist threat has expanded beyond local parameters (Wright, 2010). Globalisation has blurred how terrorism operates and has aided the development of a modernised terrorism (Aas, 2013). The Home Office acknowledged that terrorist threats have changed in recent years and this is expected to change further unless an efficient solution is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Gender Roles Of Women And Women Men and women have very different expectations and roles in the work force. In the past almost all corporations have discriminated against gender, especially women. Whether it is women not being allowed certain positions and/or promotions at a job, or women not being allowed into the field of work that they desire at all. Women have also been discriminated by being payed lower wage and made to work longer hours in unsafe and unhealthy work environments. Gender roles set expectations that are extremely incorrect. A woman is just as capable at any job that a man is and should not be discriminated against because of her gender. Culture and society have a huge impact on gender roles, specifically among women. "Among the ancient Celts women rulers and warriors were so common that when a group of Brigantian captives was brought to Rome in the reign of Claudius they automatically assumed his wife..." (Irish, Shawn). Women in some cultures like the ancient Celts had women in leadership roles such as governing the people of their land. However, some cultures see women as nothing more than someone to care for the children and keep the house clean. "Before World War II, the division of workers into different jobs on the basis of gender was universally accepted" (Irish, Shawn). Meaning that society found it morally right that you could not allow women certain jobs due solely to the fact that they were women. Also, in ancient Rome, a common job for women was to work as a "hawker". Hawking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Gender Roles Of Women And Women Gender is one of the greatest factors that can determine how we define ourselves and others. Although gender is determined at birth for many, it does not influence one 's identity of self until a later age. How society views the roles of each gender influences how a person views themselves. As the views changes, so does one's identity. In the past, the roles of men and women were defined and separated. Men were expected to provide income for the family, while women were expected to take care of the home. Doing things outside these roles caused negative reactions from the community and frowned upon. Today, there is still a difference between men and women, but a lot of the roles have become acceptable for both. Within my culture, gender roles have generally been set and defined to conform to preexisting traditions. Men were viewed as strong and the bread–earner and women were weak, unintelligent family care–takers. To this day, I feel this notion still exists in the contemporary society due to the deep seated nature of Confucianism in the Chinese culture. Even in Chinese school, we were assigned gender roles and taught proverbial stories instilled with concepts regarding women 's inferiority and subordination to men by nature. These gender constructs were enforced beyond childhood and some of my Chinese classes even imposed gender–specific behavioral conventions. Women 's Roles And Roles Of Women From the late 1990s and beginning of 2000, the women in Assamese cinema became more louder in every role – their dialogues, articulation, their ways of standing for their rights and identity etc. No more scripts were written where women are portrayed as tragic queens. The aspect of glamour and high–budget cinema has especially given a boost to more of female participation into the world of entertainment. The women portrayed today are somewhere or the other have a 'borrowed' portrayal that has not much connection to the reality of Assamese woman on the urban and rural part of Assam, either educated or uneducated, career–oriented or home–maker and so on. But there are instances where history has also seen women in some of the powerful positions. As mentioned in the earlier chapter, while Jatra step down to Assam from Bengal, the women at that point had the only option to appreciate as a spectator from far off. The role of women was played by men itself and this continued for a long. By then came the theatre moment in Assam where women's participation could not be considered so effortlessly. But later with the passage of time finally the presence of women can be marked both in Jatra and other forms of theatre. Girls would dress in different attires to represent mythological characters in Jatra. Young girls would love to dress up with heavy make–up and with great zeal and excitement, to perform their respective roles. People from nearby and far off villages would come to watch their performances. • 11. The Role Of The Women The role of the women in ministry is a controversial topic that has divided Christendom today. There are those who hold the fact that women have a right to positions in ministry while others are against following some quotations from the word of God. Those who hold the view of women becoming elders and preachers in churches today, protest the fact that we are all one before God. There is neither male nor female following Galatians 3: 26 –28. This is to confidently assert the fact that the sexes are joint heirs with Christ of full salvation. Some are standing on the fact that God gave the Holy Spirit to His children including male and female for the propagation of His kingdom (I Corinthian 12:7). From the creation story in (Genesis ... Thy were not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. • 12. Roles Of Women In Roman Women In my civilization of Rome, women in society have the duty of taking care of the home and family. Love has almost nothing to do with a Roman marriage. It exists so that wives may produce children to be heirs to their father's property. Every man wants a son to care for them in old age and eventually take over the estate, since there are no retirement homes or pension plans. Age fourteen is an average age for a young girl to get married. Women have weak judgment, so they are prohibited from attending, speaking in, or voting at political assemblies. They also cannot hold any governmental position. Egypt treats its women very differently in comparison to my civilization. Egyptians believe that joy and happiness are legitimate goals of life and take home and family very seriously. Women of Egypt are almost completely equal to men in regards to the law. They can own property, borrow money, sign contracts, and initiate divorce. The men and women here love children, and do not conceive children just to produce an heir to property. We Romans have a practical attitude towards religion. The upper elite classes hold the priesthood positions. There is no separation of church and state. We consider ourselves highly religious and our practices and beliefs are our own. It is a part of our daily lives, and each home has a household shrine in which families can pray to. • 13. Women : The Role Of Women In The 1920s The 19th Amendment, passed in 1920, marked an immense leap forward with regard to the role of women in American society. The embrace of personal freedom by the "New Woman" is reflected in the 1925 novel, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, by Anita Loos, and the 1953 American musical comedy film adaptation by Howard Hawks. In the twenty–eight years that separated these works, however, a different vision of society – and in particular, of women – arose, and this is depicted through the presentation of female sexuality, gender dominance, and intellect, showing that the women of the 1950's were far more empowered than their 1920's sisters. A direct outcome of the economic and social evolution of the 1920s was that the "New Woman" pursued her freedom by aiming to be more than a household drudge: she saw herself as deserving to be pampered and spoilt by an adoring man. Loos's Lorelei is willing to serve as arm candy for rich men who desire for beauty and good time. As a product of capitalism, she equates culture with tangible assets. Both protagonists pursue this goal without using their sexuality as a weapon to exploit the men they encounter for material gain. In fact, the short hair, boyish look, flattened chest and knee length skirts were just a few ways to describe the young liberal women of the 20s, nicknamed 'flappers'. Loos instead presents them as stereotypical 'damsels in distress,' waiting for a prince on a white horse to rescue them. This rescue comes in the form of being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As women get more education and make more money they are becoming the primarily breadwinners of their families. More women are working outside the home and their earnings are important to the well–being of their families. What are the effect on their families, careers and equal wages? The days of mom staying at home full–time are long gone for most families. More women are their family's breadwinners than ever before. Heather Boushey in The New Breadwinners, states "Women are more likely to work outside the home and their earning are more important to their families well–being than ever before in our nation's history" (31). In families today there's no one staying at home in the day, so there no one there when kids come home from school with everyday life. According to The New York Times, U.S. Women on the Rise as Family Breadwinners, Catherine Rampell wrote that "four in 10 American households with children under 18 now include a mother who is either the sole or primary earner for her family the highest on record it has quadrupled since 1960"(2). Men have traditionally been viewed as superior since the beginning of time. As a war poem, the Iliad too highlights the battles and decisions of men. The position of women in the Iliad can be analyzed in two parts: the mortal sphere and the immortal sphere. Mortal women are less prominent than the mortal men, who are either treated as the property of men (for example – Chryseis and Briseis) or are typecast as interlocutors and stereotyped mothers like Thetis and Queen Hecuba. However, these women are not completely without power or persuasive influence, as they affect the events off–the– battlefield. In the other sphere, Goddesses like Athena and Hera, seem to be more powerful and influential than their male counterparts. One of the primary purposes of the mortal women in the Iliad is to serve as objects of prize or bounty to the war heroes. This is shown from the beginning with the priest Chryses brining a priceless ransom to win his daughter, Chryseis, back from king Agamemnon. Agamemnon, however, firmly refuses and says: The girl – I won't give up the girl. • 18. Women : The Role Of Women In Beowulf It is apparent when reading Beowulf that women were regarded as beneath men in Anglo–Saxon culture. The vast majority of the dominant characters in Beowulf are men. In fact, the only prominent female character is an antagonist who is defeated by a man. The others are mentioned briefly, and one of them even serves all the men of Heorot. Although one woman is a monster, one is a hostess/bedmate, and another a violent queen who must be put in place, all of them serve several purposes in contributing to the meaning of the work. The meekness and submissive nature provides a stark contrast to the glorious deeds of the great warriors that makes their achievements appear even greater. The first and most prominent of the roles of women is the Cheerleader. This is also the role that ties most strongly to the overall role of women in the epic. Queens Hygd and Wealhtheow are the two women that most clearly demonstrate this supportive quality. Both are queens, and both direct their energy and power toward the glorification of their husbands and the warriors of their kingdoms. The first example can be found in the Mead Hall of the Danes in lines 614 through 615. Beowulf has arrived and the Danes are greeting him and the rest of the Weather–Geats with an evening of drinking. Wealhtheow, the Queen and wife of Hrothgar, regally enters the scene. • 20. Gender Roles Of Women And Women Gender roles are social constructs that determine how men and women are viewed, categorized, and stereotyped. In theory, gender roles seem benign: they are, after all, simply relics of cultural tradition; in practice however, they have proved malignant, and are the root of many obstacles women and men face in the United States today, confining individuals through archaic, sexist assumptions and stereotypes. At the heart of this stereotyping is the idea that true women are sensitive, nurturing, and submissive to the more aggressive, dominant men (Carlton). Gender roles and associated sexism are the glue that binds gender to societal expectations about personality characteristics, jobs, and colors. Despite the astounding progress women have made, equality between men and women has yet to be achieved, and it is no question that gender roles are present in today's society, contributing to the inequality women face. The impacts of gender roles are not limited to restrictive societal roles and pressures, but also contribute to health–related, economic and political inequality. Gender roles encourage the dominance of men and restrict the freedom of women. Awareness of gender roles and their detrimental effects is absolutely necessary in order for women to achieve true social and political equality in the United States. Gender roles is the root to woman's theology. Gender roles is how society expect men and women to act, speak, dress, and conduct themselves. For example, women are expected to be housewives, the nurturer of the children, and oblige to their men. Besides being submissive to their husbands, women are also expected to dress in feminine clothing and have class. Men on the other hand, are generally expected to be strong providers, and the protectors of the family; wearing masculine clothing. Generalized gender roles are created through gender stereotypes. These stereotypes can be considered erroneous ideas of the male and female attributes. In other words, roles are based off the individual's desires, beliefs, feelings, and knowledge; therefore, attributes may vary for everyone. In addition, while some don't condone nor believe in gender roles, others are guilty of presuming them to be true. For instance, some people truly believe that all women should want to be married and have children, and that all men should be the source of protection and affluence. • 22. Gender Roles Of Women And Women "I think we 're struggling with trying to redefine various positions at this point in history. To allow freedom for women, freedom for men, freedom from those sharply defined gender roles " (Fred Ward). I agree with this quote because in today's society gender defines the roles of what a male and a female can do. What is gender? Gender, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones). The term gender is only used when we describe how men and women are different in a society but the actual term that really defines a man and a woman is sex. Sex, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is either of the two main categories (male and female) into which humans and many other living things are divided on the basis of their reproductive functions. The differences of gender roles are something that is seen in many cultures. It can be seen in families, society, in occupations, and in politics. This can be related in the field of psychology because these can create a general notion of a person and what they are supposed to do and how they should behave, or in other words what a person can create in his or her mind is stereotypes. • 25. Gender Roles Of Women And Women Gender roles are a set of behaviors that indicate that a person should fit in to a category of either being male or female. This is society's concept of how men and women are expected to behave. These gender roles were commonly accepted before the twenty–first century. Society viewed males as being the main financial providers for their family whereas women were viewed as the maker of the home, raising and taking care their children. Men were expected to be strong, athletic, aggressive, and dominant. While, women were expected to be weak, passive, nurturing, and subordinate. Gender roles are assigned at birth, from then on children learn how it is socially acceptable to behave by observing friends, family members and the media. Not fitting in to these categories can be harmful. Most people have experienced sexism due to these gender stereotypes. Sexism can be thinking or treating someone different because of their gender. For example, men often get paid more than women for the same job and skill level. For some people it might be hard to accept a strong, dominant woman or a passive and friendly man simply because they are not fitting in to the category assigned to them. Contributing members of society are expected to ear their keep, usually by working in some form. The way in which women were allowed to ear their keep was in the home. The Labor Law instituted in 1930 promised to "liberate married women from the workshop and factory." Far from liberating, it sought to ensure that women could remain in the home and "fulfill the only purpose of Christian marriage: reproduction." This regulation did not serve as protection, but merely assigns a positive spin on the concept of limiting women's potential. Women made up a slim percentage of those educated at the secondary level and therefore qualified for few professional positions, they did dominate "training for magisterio, elementary school teaching." This unusual statistic evidence that there were indeed ways to seek employment, but even within there is a reminder of the types of roles in which the women who were allowed to contribute could be placed. For women seeking work, professional options were generally limited to becoming domestic servants, ticket sellers or office workers, nurses, pharmacists, or teachers. • 27. Women : The Role Of Women In The Police The role of women in policing has been traditionally very limited. The major reason behind this is because the men in control of the police departments reflect general attitudes of a large part of their communities. They believe that women should only be used in few positions that require juvenile work. These attitudes have led to the creation of the obstacles that women pursuing a career in policing face. Many police men have outlooks of women that are offensive and degrading. During numerous interviews with police men in the 1970's many male prejudices were expressed. "I believe in male supremacy" said a chief in a major city, "I wouldn't mind having a few good looking women around to help the men's morale" said the head of patrol of another major department. (Milton, 1972) Women have experienced workplace issues such as sexual harassment, discrimination and lack of role models. There are a large number of behavioral expectations for women, like cleanliness, modesty, courtesy and much more. Women in Japan were not able to divorce their husbands', however, husbands were able to divorce their wives if they felt that they were not fulfilling their duties. New laws had been placed and with the western influence, people became more open minded. The Crew of Light primarily perpetuates the patriarchy and control women. Mitchell R. Lewis concludes that the male plays the most significant role in dictating the basis of the novel. In his entry about Dracula he states, "The efforts of the male characters to kill Dracula are really efforts to subordinate female sexuality to the Victorian institution of heterosexual marriage, in which women primarily play the prescribed roles of wife and mother. It is also an effort to save the embattled masculinity of the male characters.". The male characters are constantly plotting to uphold the patriarchy and to force women to act how they want them to, weather they know it or not. The men must prove their masculinity and dominance over the woman. In another gender criticism, Sos Eltis takes a similar view. Eltis cites multiple events in the text where masculinity is triumphing over femininity and prolonging the familiar, traditional gender roles of Victorian society. He talks of the killing of Lucy saying, "The staking of Lucy is described in overtly sexual terms, as a reassertion of masculine dominance and sexual aggression ... There multitudinous assumptions made towards men and women affect the way we live. Expectations like these are why patriarchal societies are composed. Patriarchal society means that men over rule the women in many ways and are more dominant causing a contrasting way of life. It has become more instinctive for humans to think this particular way because they are being circumvented by these assumptions everyday. Throughout literature, it is clear that men and women make gender role assumptions during all different time frames forming patriarchal societies. From the novels Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen, and Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire the male characters show how they specifically formed a patriarchal society with how dominant they are to the women characters in the novels due to the assumptions that men and women make about gender roles. • 32. Gender Roles Of Women And Women Gender Roles "Gender is the costume, a mask, a straightjacket in which men and women dance their unequal dance" (Kearl). Throughout history, women have been treated with unequal and unjust standards in comparison to their male counterparts. This paper will discuss gender roles in society and the stereotypes placed on men and women. As well as gender role development and the different influences that lead to these roles and stereotypes. Also, it will outline the history and progress of women's rights from the early 1900's until present day, going over the key points of change. Gender Role Development– Gender roles are a social construction formed by socially and culturally defined beliefs about the behavior and emotions of men and women. Gender behaviors are learned and continue to develop through early childhood. Beginning at about two to three years of age, the child attains their gender identity. Gender identity is an individual's sense of their own gender. This stage can be summed up by saying the individual starts to become aware of what their gender is, and tell the difference between both sexes. The next stage in gender role development is gender stability, this occurs between four to five years of age. During this stage, an individual acknowledges that their gender will remain the same for the duration of their life. The final step in this developmental process is gender consistency, this occurs between six and eight years of age. The main theory for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Women : The Role Of Women In Beowulf Beowulf is a tale filled with battles and heroes going through journeys to save the day. Men were dominate for without them and their strength, the constant state of war would mean nothing. In Beowulf, the role of women is less important than men but they are still vital in keeping the society together. Expectations for women were to be the caregiver not protector and fighter like men, yet they were still important just oversaw different responsibilities. Women were weak and in constant need of a man for protection. They were valued in society as the wife, child–bearer, and in highest respect hostess. In the succeeding paragraph, the value of women and marriage in early English societies is discussed. Women needed protection for they could not fight for themselves. Before they got married, women were under their father's protection, which led to many marrying into families of wealth and power and from then on, being under the safety of their husband. This is significant for it shows how women were not seen as the strong side of relationships or in general. Women were seen as weak and as though they needed constant protection, hence marriage into good families. In most cultures, women did not have much of a say in who they married but depending on the woman she could be respected and marry into a good family line. Renee Yewdaev, a writer on Beowulf, stated, "A woman's first loyalty was to her husband, whom she had to obey. She was expected to see to his comfort and bear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Role Of Women In The Iliad Women today do not have as much equal rights as men do today, especially those women from the ancient world. Women from the ancient world, whether they were real people or characters from an epic, they were still treated badly and locked down upon, only worthy for their appearance and status in society. They were the housekeepers and the children's caretaker. The women of Sparta, on the other hand, were treated a bit differently. They too were housekeepers and caretakers, but they also received physical training, permitted to own land, and could drink wine. Looking at the epic, "The Iliad", female characters were also mistreated. Goddesses were powerful and important but are not considered real women, if you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. she left, Achilles got so annoyed that he soon found solace in another captured woman named Diomede. Achilles slept with Diomede in a hut, and next to them were Patroclus and another woman captured by Achilles to give his friend company. (9.663) Homer does really have a way of showing how he thought of women. Women in the Iliad play the role of property based the views of ancient Greeks. During this time, women were given little freedom. They were unable to vote and inherit their own land, unlike the women of Sparta. But as a whole, women were still like property. Wives were submissive to their husbands, like how Andromache is to Hector. Greek women of the ancient world had a purpose, and it was the purpose of rearing children. This is how the Greek culture was like back then, women having little freedom, almost close to no freedom at all. So that's how women were like according to how they were viewed by the people of ancient Greece.

  • 37. Gender Roles Of Women And Women Gender refers to the masculine and feminine attributes assigned to either sex. Culture and biology determine the moral, intellectual, and emotional differences between males and females. Biology partially determines gender constructions of men and women. A woman's ability to conceive or a man's natural strength are all examples of biological gender. However, I believe a larger proportion of personal gender is formulated through cultural believes and values. Cultures create gender through social practices such as education, employment, or child rearing. These activities slot men and women into different positions of power. Traditionally, wife and mother are roles accepted by the women, the men undertake roles such as wage earner and decision maker, accepting positions that are more powerful. Women and men accept personal moral, intellectual, and emotional characteristics to suit their designated roles. I will be discussing these topics from the 'Taming of the Shrew' which contextualizes gender surrounding marriage, '10 Things I Hate about You', providing insight into relationships and pressures of gender in our educational institutions or families and lastly, 'Anchorman' which establishes the roles of women and the gender constructions involved in the workforce, more specifically, the news station. 'Taming of the Shrew' is the first topic of discussion. Women, continuously objectified, are married and managed as a means of crediting dowry. They are intelligent and tutored in ... • 38. Role Of Women In Frankenstein The Temperament of the Natural Role of Women in Frankenstein The scientific advances in Frankenstein led to disastrous consequences, but on a more biological level than one would think. The author, Mary Shelley was a woman born in Somers Town, London, in 1797. She was raised by her father William Godwin, who was a writer and philosopher. When she wrote "Frankenstein," Shelley portrays a determined, male character, Victor Frankenstein as an obsessed scientist who creates a so–called "monster"out of various body parts he dug up out of a graveyard. The reason for the description, "so–called 'monster'" is because a true monster is evil, inhumane, and lacks remorse. In addition to this, the stigma around appearance being sociated with monster–like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It's important to realize that Frankenstein's nineteenth– century is founded on the division of gender roles: the male inhabits the public sphere, the female is relegated to domestic sphere. For example, the men in all work outside the home, as public servants, scientists, merchants, or explorers. Also, the women are confined to the home; Elizabeth, for instance, is not permitted to travel with Victor. Interestingly, this is the reason why his wife wasn't involved with the idea of this experiment. Throughout the novel, intellectual activity is segregated from emotional activity. With this in mind, Victor Frankenstein cannot do scientific research and think lovingly of Elizabeth and his family at the same time. While working on his experiment, he states "to forget those friends who were so many miles absent, and whom I had not seen for so long a time," ( Shelley 50) which means he became disconnected from his relationships. This directly to his downfall because Frankenstein cannot work and love at the same time. This results in him failing to feel empathy for the creature. The reason for this is because being in isolation for so long, he starts to lose his sense of humility. By not maintaining a loving relationship with his wife, he lost his reason to show compassion. Also, he fails to love or feel any parental responsibility. As a matter of fact, Frankenstein manages to eliminate the biological role of women, but didn't fulfill the motherly aspect. He fails to raise the monster as a mother would raise a child. The reason for this is because he created the monster for his own personal gain. Women, on the other hand, give birth with the intention to nurture and raising a life. By eliminating the biological role of women, but not fulfilling the motherly aspect, it results in the monster seeking revenge on his creator, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Gender Roles And Roles Of Women War films like 300 (2006) maintain and amplify the stereotypical roles of males and females, where males are portrayed as the ones who have to serve as defender of all. The film industry mainly classified the conventional gender roles of society into their movies; majority of films have supported some of the male and female stereotypes. In the history of the film industry, the role of men is primarily the stereotypical working class man or hero, while the roles of women are primarily portrayed as being somewhat inferior to men. In the 1930s through the 1970s, men held the leading roles in films while women played smaller roles. In terms of jobs, women were given mostly family roles and rarely were shown outside of their homes, while men had successful careers and did many activities outside of home. As women were given a more active role in society, the gender roles in movies changed. However, many types of gender stereotypes in films still exist. Men are typically portrayed to be the hero, while women are often portrayed as sexual objects. In the movie 300 and according to "8 Reasons It Wasn 't Easy Being Spartan.", the Spartan men served and protected the city of Sparta, while the Spartan women did domestic chores and were just to be there to breed more strong warriors. • 41. Gender Roles Of Women And Women A gender role is simply a behavior that may be learned by a person that is so called "accepted" into society or a cultural normality. For example, men are known for supporting the family the most such as keeping the food on the table and being most of the income that comes into the household. Women on the other hand are normally looked upon as house cleaners, childcare givers, and less responsible jobs inside the house. Gender stereotypes are a little bit different; this is a way of seeing someone, as they appear just based on their gender. (Rathus, 2010, p. 526) Such as some men like to watch sports or play them, not all men watch or play sports but people assume so. Women are normally the ones who are seen but not heard. That is not always the case; some women like to be either the center of attention or want their voice heard, eliminating the stereotype of women being dependent on men for everything. Some obvious physical differences between men and women are men have a lot more facial hair. Males have deeper voices, they have different sexual organs, and men also tend to a lot more aggressive because of their greater amount of testosterone in their bodies. Also in relationships men choose the "fight or flight" method which is either the men fight about whatever it is, or they leave and move on without getting into an argument. Women on the other hand have higher amount of estrogen, they also have a higher sense of feeling or belonging to someone and if a lady doesn't ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
