Unit 7 Deuteronomy 6
Unit #7 Biblical Reflection
In Deuteronomy 6, Moses reminded the people of Israel about all that the Lord had and would
continue to do for them. He also reminded them that the Lord is the only true God, and He demands
complete devotion from His people. If the Israelites obeyed the commands of the Lord, He would
cause life to "...go well with you...," and the Israelites would "...increase greatly in a land flowing
with milk and honey..." (Deut. 6:3). However, the Lord would punish disobedience with disaster.
Thus, Moses described the Lord as gracious and benevolent, but He is also the rightful ruler and
judge of all peoples. He alone is God, and He demands to be worshipped as such. Over one
thousand years later, the apostle Paul discussed some of the same attributes of God in his letter to
the Corinthians. Specifically, in the first few verses of chapter 8, Paul discussed the authority of the
Lord as the one true God, and he declared that "...whoever loves God is known by God" (1 Corinth.
8:3). Interestingly, in Paul's brief discussion of the authority of God, he referenced and expounded
upon the Shema, which Moses had initially declared in Deuteronomy 6. The Shema proclaims
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one" (Deut. 6:4). Paul further explained that "'There
is no God but one'" (1 Corinth. 8:4b), but the one true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, an understanding of the various roles of the Godhead also provides comfort as we serve
God in our individual lives. For example, knowing that the Spirit is our permanent, always–present
guide and comforter is a tremendous encouragement. A proper view of the Trinity is also critical as
we share the Gospel with others: because the doctrine of the Trinity informs our worship, we must
be able to articulate this doctrine to others so that they can rightly relate to and worship our triune

The Christian Doctrine Of The Trinity
The Christian doctrine of the Trinity essentially teaches that there is one God. This makes it a
monotheistic religion at face value just like Islam and Judaism. The uniqueness about most of
mainline Christianity from the other monotheistic religions is that though it claims to be a
monotheistic religion that worships one God; their one God is actually a Godhead that is composed
of three distinct persons namely: The father; The Son and; The Holy Spirit. The Christian God has
therefore been very hard to comprehend and explain in simple language (Alston 1997). Even very
learned Christian scholars define the concept of the trinity as a mystery understandable only by God
himself (Kärkkäinen 2007). This position has however not deterred Christians or made them feel
like their faith is in contradiction. This is because they have explained that by the very fact that God
is a mystery is proof that he is God and as such, he is the only one who can really understand
himself. Jesus is also found to have two natures, which are fully united together, which is another
mystery that can only be fully understood by God.
Jesus is said to posses the full nature of man and its attributes and the full nature of God and its
attributes. It is logical for the creator to understand his creation very well and very hard for the
created creature to fully, understand his creator due to the disadvantage of being a creature and so
being limited (J.P.Moreland and W. L. Craig 2003). This is the explanation

Trinity To Nazienzus Essay
The Trinity to Nazienzus is absolutely essential in his Five Theological Orations, and in them he
defines the "Father is the Begetter and the Emitter; without passion of course, and without reference
to time, and not in a corporeal manner." This means that "though numerically distinct there is no
severance of Essence." Christ is not subordinate to the Father, and the Holy Ghost is not subordinate
to the Father or the Son; the Godhead is Triune in unity and is of the same substance. Even though
the Holy Spirit and the Son "are from [the Father], though not after Him," they still share the same
essence as Him in the Trinity. This is an important distinction, because any part of the Godhead that
has not existed for all time would not be God by definition. Nazienzus explains this by saying that
the "cause is not necessarily prior to its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He goes so far to say that the "notion of Two Sons, one of God the Father, the other of the mother"
warrants the loss of adoption into God's Kingdom. God and man have two distinct natures, just as
the body and the soul are two distinct natures, "but there are not two sons or two gods" in the person
of Jesus. This is valid because it adheres to scripture, and because the alternative is heresy. There are
plentiful examples of the divinity of God, one being John 8:58, where Jesus proclaims to the dismay
of the Pharisees "before Abraham was, I am," which caused them to try and stone Him for what they
considered blasphemy. His humanity can be seen in Matthew 4:2 where He hungered after fasting
for 40 days and nights, and in Mark 15:37 where the human person of Jesus died on the cross, even
though his deity descended to Sheol. This shows the validity of the Trinitarian model, which means
that "the Three are One and the same in Godhead," as Christ is still the fully functioning second
person of the

The Trinity Doctrine Of God
Though the word "Trinity" is not explicitly found in the Bible, the teaching that there are three
individual personalities of divine nature (known in the New Testament as the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit) is thoroughly scriptural and has been generally acknowledged by the writers of
"Christendom" since the apostolic age.
"Around A.D. 190, Theodotus of Byzantium advocated the absolute personality of God. Asserting
that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were one person, he sought to propagate his views in the church
at Rome. He is said to be "the first representative of Dynamistic Monarchianism whose views have
been recorded".
The Trinity doctrine cannot be proven by simply reading the scriptures; it has to be described and

The question is: what does Scripture mean by one God? In the Old Testament, the words el, eloah,
and elohim, from related roots, are generic designations of God. The New Testament term is theos.
"Elohim", meaning "God", is sometimes confused to show the plurality of the Godhead, this is not a
correct interpretation. In the Hebrew words are plural in construction but singular in the way that
they are used. Also the Hebrew often used plural forms to show majesty or greatness of one person
or deity. Even though these are plural words, to say they represent a multiplicity in the Godhead
would be wrong. Historically Hebrew people and there writings are monotheistic. When you are
referring to God using "Elohim", it is always used with a singular verb such as "is" and "created"
which are found in Genesis 1:1, but the scripture also uses Elohim in pagan references in the Bible,
and in doing so it uses plural verbs with "Elohim" as well.
These appellations, when used of the true God, simply suggest the nature or quality of being divine–
deity. The word "God" is not the name of a personality; it is the name of a nature, a quality of being.
When it is said, therefore, that there is but one God, the meaning is: there is but one divine nature.
"The treatment of God will fall into three parts: first we will consider that which pertains to the

The Importance And Cons Of The Nicene Creed
Christians overwhelmingly attest that monotheism is key to the Christian confidence, as the Nicene
Creed (and others), which gives the customary Christian meaning of the Trinity, starts: "I have faith
in one God". From sooner than the seasons of the Nicene Creed, 325 CE, different Christian figures
pushed the triune secret nature of God as a standardizing calling of confidence. As per Roger E.
Olson and Christopher Hall, through supplication, contemplation, study and practice, the Christian
people group finished up "that God must exist as both a solidarity and trinity", arranging this in
ecumenical chamber toward the finish of the fourth century.
Most current Christians trust the Godhead is triune, implying that the three people of the Trinity are
in one union in which every individual is additionally completely God. They additionally hold to the
precept of a man–god Christ Jesus as God incarnate. These Christians additionally don't trust that
one of the three heavenly figures is God alone and the other two are not but rather that each of the
three are strangely God and one. Some Christian religions, for example, Mormonism, contend that
the Godhead is in reality three separate people which incorporate God the Father, His Son Jesus
Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Every individual having an unmistakable reason in the fantastic
presence of mankind. Besides, Mormons trust that before the Council of Nicaea, the dominating
conviction among numerous early Christians was that the

Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has
caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused
Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defenses that are
studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying
degrees of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph
Madhi with few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and
therefore more effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it.

Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a
compelling argument to refute the Caliph's simple yet powerful statement: "If He is one, He is not
three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction?" (69).
The most obvious of Timothy's logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the "Son" of the
Trinity is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew
Scripture to show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: "God, therefore, called
Christ 'a Lord' through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that Christ is
not a servant" (82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince the Caliph,
lies in the fact that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also flawed from a
modern point of view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither Jesus nor the
concept of the Trinity. It would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to claim for
example that the "We" of the creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity.
Timothy makes similar mistakes in reference to the Koran and the Gospels. He says, "It is also
possible that the three letters placed before some Surahs in the Kur'an...refer also in your Book to

order. The divine order and harmony of the universe further support Aquinas's argument. The
intelligent designer is the final cause of all things. Psalm 19:3–4 makes a valid point as well. It
states, "There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out
through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the
sun."[18] These two verses also discredits Hume's argument by saying the universe has no creative
attributes of an intelligent designer. Though, the universe cannot speak with a voice, they speak
without using words. God's power is revealed and proclaimed through heavens presentence. Not
only is God's attributes revealed through the universe, the heavens

Analysis : Thomas Forsythe Torrance
T.F. TORRANCE: TRINITARIAN
INTRODUCTION
Thomas Forsythe Torrance was a theologian who was passionate about God and about theological
accuracy. He fully invested himself in educating people regarding the nature of God and bringing
together theological and doctrinal factions within the body of Christ. To quote Torrance, "...I find the
presence and being of God bearing upon my experience and thought so powerfully that I cannot but
be convinced of His overwhelming reality and rationality. To doubt the existence of God would be
an act of sheer irrationality, for it would mean that my reason had become unhinged from its bond
with real being". Torrance dedicated his life to the study of and dissemination of information

Indeed, his mother had given him a copy of Barth's Credo that encouraged him to oppose not only
rationalistic liberalism but fundamentalism and deterministic sorts of Calvinism as well". A key
tenet of Torrance's theological expositions is that no one can reach to God, but God must reach to
Him. Torrance expressed his opposition to the concept of subjectivism–"the doctrine that all
knowledge is limited to experiences by the self, and that transcendent knowledge is impossible" by
stating that a seeker cannot find God by looking into himself, but by seeking for God in God. In
1927 the Torrance family moved to Scotland where Torrance bloomed academically and went onto
University. While in graduate studies, Torrance was further influenced by Barth's writings,
especially in relation to the Trinity. "...Torrance became utterly convinced that any rigorous
scientific approach to Christian theology must begin with actual knowledge of God reached through
God's self–revelation in Christ and the Holy Spirit". Torrance worked diligently to promote
ecumenical relations between the Easter and Western churches. He also addressed unique doctrinal
issues held within the Roman Catholic Church. In all of his dealings with each church's doctrinal
differences, his intent was to facilitate friendly dialogue between the churches and a greater
understanding of God from the Trinitarian standpoint. Over his lifetime, Torrance wrote many
books, won

Reflection Paper
I always knew there was a God. That is something I never questioned. When I was little I was taught
about the LDS church by my grandparents. My dad always taught me that the LDS church was not
true. He would tell me things like "all mormons are going to hell" and he would tell me it was a
church based on lies. At such a young age this was very confusing for me, but I have always been a
daddy's girl so of course at one point I started to wonder if my dad was right. I wasn't able to be
baptized at 8 because my dad would not allow it. When I was in 4th grade my mom, my sister, and I
moved out of my grandparents house and became inactive to the point where I had forgotten a lot of
what I had learned from my grandparents and at church. We continued to be in active and would
attend church maybe two or three times a year. The missionaries would come to our door
occasionally, but my mom would always tell them that me and my sister are unable to be baptized
because my dad won't allow it and send them away. When I was visiting my dad the summer before
my 7th grade year I went to church with him all summer at an evangelical christian church. A week
before I was suppose to go back to my moms house my dad told my sister and I that we were going
to live with him until we graduated. For the next 6 months I continued going to church with my dad.
I went through one of the hardest trials I have ever gone through. This caused me to hit a point
where I felt extremely alone and even abandoned.

Christianity Is A Religion Based On The Person And God
There are over a billion people in the World who follow and support the Catholic Church.
Christianity is a religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Ever since
Christianity started to emerge in the mid–first century it has only increased in size and became even
more powerful now than in the origins of the Religion. Jesus Christ is considered to be the Son of
God and through the Bible's scriptures that include many sacred writings of Christianity it has given
people hope and more importantly something to believe in. Faith is a huge part of any Religion
because that is when you put your complete trust or confidence in someone or something. For
Christians our faith is put into the Bible, believing in and worshipping a supreme being, God, and a
superhuman, Jesus Christ. The importance to Christianity and to anyone's growth in Christian life
can be seen through believing in someone whether human or divine, God as three persons in one
divine being, genuine friendship, the sacraments, and Jesus Christ as the fullness of both divinity
and humanity. Although Christianity is not for everyone, there are thousands of different kinds of
Religion from which an individual can choose to follow. Even though Christianity is one of the
biggest Religions in the World there are just some people who either don't believe in Christianity or
have a hard time understanding it. Being brought up as a Christian I have put my faith in God's
hands as did my family and many others.

Is Mormonism Really A Cult
Mormonism–Is it really a cult?
Many people see The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also known as LDS or
Mormonism, as a cult. But are they really a cult? Again others see them as a valid denomination of
Christianity. Which of these is more correct?
A great deal of people consider Mormonism to be a cult. They think that they have strange customs,
such as not eating fruit. It is true that Mormonism is different in many ways from most Christianity,
but does that really make it a cult? To quote the textbook: "A cult represents a distinct break from
other traditions". So by that definition, all religion is cultist in nature. One major difference between
Mormonism and most Christianity is Baptism of the Dead. Mormons believe that

The Trinity : The Doctrine Of The Trinity
There is nothing like going to church on Sundays and listening to a very heartfelt sermon about how
God played a role in someone's life. Not only that, but also the stories each Sunday vary depending
on whether the Father, Son, or Holy Spirit is given the credit in the story. Sadly, some preachers fail
to explain that all three persons were active in the person's life. Walter Martin, an American
Evangelical Christian minister and author, makes sure to point out that the "Doctrine of the Trinity
teaches that within the unity of the one Godhead there are three separate persons who are coequal in
power, nature, and eternity" (Martin). The most important part about this statement being that the
three different persons within the Godhead are equally the same. So how does this make sense?
Historically, many philosophers and theologians have tried to explain God without the idea of the
Trinity. This, however, did not work out so well for them. As Michael Reeves, author or Delighting
in the Trinity, explains, theologians such as Arius back in the early fourth century, who tried to
define God, missed the true picture. Reeves explains that "without the Son, God cannot truly be a
Father; thus alone, he is not truly love. Thus he can have no fellowship to share with us, no Son to
bring us close, no Spirit through whom we might know him" (Reeves). Furthermore, viewing God
as only one person limits the amount of involvement He is capable of having in one's life. The
reason there are so

Cosmic Trinity
Good Morning all, welcome to this Beyond Belief presentation of Trinity artwork. I am Eloise Daly
and my watercolour painting is titled 'A Cosmic Trinity'. I chose this art form to express my concept
of the Trinity because it flows easily, like how each reflection of God can relate to the essence of
God. This artwork is representational; it was chosen because the trinity can be clearly represented.
In this piece, the Earth is the centre of the artwork to signify how God watches over us. The Father
as the creator of life, the Son as the flesh of God, and the Holy Spirit as the love and spirit of God.
The Trinity is enclosed by an illuminated triangle in a boundless expanse of space to represent the

Modern Theology: Karl Barth and Emil Brunner Essay
The doctrine of election has been one of the key subjects discussed by various influential
theologians throughout the two thousand years. Many have attempted to understand and embrace the
enigma of election presented in the bible. It is important to realize that there are many views
pertaining to the doctrine of election ranging from prominent theologians such as Augustine and
Pelagius, Calvin and Arminius, Barth and Brunner and various other theologians and their respective
counterparts. Karl Barth and Emil Brunner are the giants on the subject of modern theology. Their
theological insights are such that even now people are mesmerized by their incredible aptitude for

He presents the theology of election as a focus on the predestination choice God made to be who He
is for humanity. This God does by God electing God the only begotten Son of the eternal God to be
substitute atonement for the humanity and then electing an elected man who is the true Adam that is
Christ Jesus. Barth presents the election done by the Triune Godhead in divine freedom to be for the
humanity which reveals a beyond comprehension and unmeasurable grace and love of God towards
humanity. Thus Jesus Christ is both the electing God and also the elected man. Barth portrays Jesus
Christ as the great pleasure and will of God in force beyond realization. Barth declares that "the
doctrine of election is of God electing man predestined not only of man but also of Himself." Jesus
Christ is not purely the unveiling of the enigma of God. Jesus is the very thing concealed in the heart
of God, and the revelation is of Jesus Christ Himself not anything else. Jesus is the elector God who
is active in electing all of humanity in Himself. Barth's concept of the doctrine of election is the
totality of the Scriptures and the anchor from whence understanding God from a finite perspective
becomes possible. Barth argues that an applicable doctrine of election must have its foundation on
Jesus Christ who is the revelation of God to the humanity. Barth's view on Christ is that of not just
an emissary of election but rather He Himself is

The Trinity, The Three Distinct Persons Of God Essay
Throughout the ages, scholars and different denominations tried to explain the Trinity, the three
distinct Persons of God. But yet through the limited understanding of human knowledge and
perceptions of God, they were not able to comprehend indefiniteness of God. One of the issues that
Christians wanted to understand is the Triune God; in order to understand Trinity, it is helpful for us
to know the existence of God. Then ask questions like; How the three Gods united and become One
God? How should we understand Trinity? What are the positions and differences of Seventh–day
Adventist belief from Evangelical? The scope and limitation of this paper are to answer the
questions above and my own understanding of God as I study the scriptures.
Let us fully understand the existence of God, however for us to be able to comprehend God, we
must ask God in a humble way to reveal Himself to us. Meaning the core of this study is base on
faith and supported by reading the scriptures. To begin with, the sub–questions where does God
come from? The Seventh–day Adventist belief stated that the existence of God assumes in the
scriptures, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Gen1:1) . In science, we are
taught in order for the hypothesis to be valid it should undergo scientific observation and analysis.
In this kind of processes, we are trying to observe the existence of God by the use of scientific tools,
in contrast, science should be the primarily tool to prove the

Skeptics Of The Holy Spirit
To a skeptic the Holy Spirit may seem as another description of God the Father that the Spirit is not
a separate person at all. Some acknowledging the Spirit contend the Spirit is not fully God.
However, Scripture supports the existence of the Trinity, including the person of the Holy Spirit,
sharing the same authority, and power as God the Father and the Son. Through the works of the
Spirit, skeptics can be converted by perceiving the things of God once hidden. Of great importance,
Wesley identified the Holy Spirit as one of the three persons of the Trinity. That the Spirit of God
had all the attributes of God, and is eternally in communion the fullness of God (Oden, 2012, p.105–
106). Our God has said, "I am the Lord; that is my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Spirit is the witness to the adoption of believers into God's family as a joint heir with Christ
(Romans 8:12–16). Wesley describes the Spirit as guiding, rectifying, teaching, purifying and
uniting believers together in the will of God through Jesus Christ (Oden, 2012, p.106). The Bible
tells us while Jesus has ascended above and is seated at the right hand of the Father, the Holy Spirit
dwells in believers here ( Matthew 22:44, Psalm 101:1, Acts 1:5, John 14:17). It is the indwelling of
the Holy Spirit that allows believers to see the truth, and perceive the Spirit himself – "He is the
Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him
and doesn't recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in
you." John 14:17 (NLT). So it is by the infilling of the Holy Spirit, that one not only experiences
works of the Spirit, but confirmation of the Spirit Himself. In conclusion Scripture confirms the
person of the Holy Spirit, sharing equally in the glory and authority of the Godhead. The Spirit of
God possesses attributes reserved only for Almighty God and reviles the things of God to man,
including the presence of the Spirit

What Is The Trinity?
What is the Trinity?
The Trinity is the Christian Godhead as one God in three persons. The three beings are God the
Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. They are three beings in perfect relationship in one
essence. Each member of the Godhead are equally important, but serve different positions in
authority. [2 The word Trinity is the Christian doctrine of the Godhead.] The Trinity is considered a
divine mystery beyond comprehension. The word trinity itself is never actually used in the bible, but
is clearly see in the scriptures. Old testament one of the old testament verses that share the trinity is
Gen 1:26 "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over
all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." The first story of creation
supports the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and at the very least, it does not oppose the doctrine of the
Holy Trinity. A New testament passage that supports the trinity is John 1:1–11 "1 In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the
beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and
the darkness has not overcome[a] it." I chose each of these verses, because they line up very well.

The Controversy
Each of the three Councils had their own different interpretation about who the deity of Jesus Christ
really was and this causes much to debate even amongst today's Christians. These different Councils
were the Council of Nicea, Council of Constantinople, and the Council of Chalcedon. The Council
of Nicea was initiated because Bishop Alexander along with other Bishops wanted to counter the
misguided teachings of Arius. They believe in God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
They interpreted that Jesus is begotten of Son of God (not made) and of one substance with God

The study of Jesus Christ (Christology) is very important to us as Christians in our walk and our
daily lives. In order to fully be able to follow Christ, we must be able to understand who He is. We
must understand what his death, burial, and resurrection means to us. Without it, there would be no
Christianity and our daily struggle to be like Christ would be for naught. To do that we must

Hebrews 10:25 says, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching". Christology
compares to the Nicene orthodoxy because the Nicene Creed represents a part of our history when
we were trying to get a greater understanding about Christ, his deity, the Trinity and Jesus as a man.
Our thinking should be somewhat aligned to the Nicene Creed because it lays a good foundation of
knowing who Jesus is. The Nicene Creed also translated well into many creeds of churches today as

Theology : Theology Vs. Theology
NAZIENZUS' THEOLOGY COMPARED TO ARIAN THEOLOGY
Ever "since the Council of Chalcedon in 451, Gregory has been honored with the title "the
theologian" for his definitive teaching on the Trinity in the late–fourth century." This has been
bestowed to him because of his precise theological works "that helped to shift the official orthodoxy
of the church and empire from the homoian doctrine supported by [the Arians] to the fully
Trinitarian" faith that was confirmed at the Council of Constantinople in 381 AD. One of the
arguments presented against Nazienzus is that the Holy Spirit is not fully deified as the Father and
the Son are deified. Arian theology asserts that the Holy Spirit is an illuminator that gives people the
power to become right with God, but is not on the same level as God. Nazienzus' refutes this heresy
by asking, "if [the Holy Spirit] is in the same rank with myself, how can He make me God, or join
me with [the] Godhead?" One cannot logically subvert the role of the Holy Spirit because He brings
people into communion with God, and only God himself can make Christians into new creations.
Nazienzus uses John 1:9 to "express precisely the deity" of the Holy Spirit, and in using this verse,
along with others, he refuted the false Arian theology that the Holy Spirit is not fully divine.
Eunomius, one of the Arian extremists, believed that the Holy Spirit is a substance, and to consider
Him a part of the deified Trinity is "completely ridiculous and so wholly

One of the pillars on which the Christian faith is based is the Trinity, we believe in God the Farther,
Christ Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit, we believe in the Trinity of the Godhead. This pillar
however has caused many debates amongst many other religions and has been rejected by most with
a lot of speculation about Jesus and His followers.
The Jewish nation however is one of the most sceptical with regards to the acceptance of the Trinity,
the New Testament and Jesus. The Jewish believe that God is the one and only God as seen in the
Old Testament, therefore they live strictly to the laws of Moses, so when we as Christians refer to
Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, they accuse us of blasphemy against the true God of Israel. The

Main Hermeneutical Strategies Used By Basil
One of the main hermeneutical strategies used by Basil in his work is confirm the oneness of the
triune God. While some of his heretical opponents insist that the triune Godhead is not fully unified,
Basil set the record straight by saying that "according to the distinction of Persons, both are one and
one, and according to the community of Nature, one." Basil is not talking about two or three
different Gods, but of one single God, one that "is not cloven in two, nor the glory divided," but
instead of a God that is triune in essence. The eternal generation of the Son, along with the eternal
precession of the Holy Spirit is essential to the doctrine of the triune God, and Basil asserts that
taking any part of this away from God is heresy. The Godhead can only rightly be described in its
triune form, as Holy Spirit is conjoined "to the one Father through the one Son, and through Himself
completing the adorable and blessed Trinity."
One of Basil's greatest typological arguments is that the Holy Spirit is equal to the Father throughout
the canon of scripture. He asks the question, "how can he who calls Scripture God–inspired, because
it was written through the inspiration of the Spirit, use the language of one who insults and belittles
Him?" That is to say, how can scripture that is inspired by the Holy Spirit still be the living,
breathing word of God? If people are to be called the temples of God with "the Spirit of God "

My Book Of Mormon 121 Class Essay
For my Book of Mormon 121 class, I wanted to choose a lesson that could possibly help me prepare
for a mission. We only have one boy in our family and he is the very last of 7 children. My three
older sisters didn't go on a mission and I was confused when I had the sudden urge and desire to do
so. I thought it was just curiosity, to fit in with the new norm of woman going on a mission, and
therefore have not done anything serious to pursue those feelings. "But it came to pass that
whosoever did not belong to the church of God began to persecute those that did belong to the
church of God, and had taken upon them the name of Christ. (1:19). I will be applying the scripture
block Alma 1:19–26 which describes how the people of the Church had to face many trials in order
to test their faith.
Living in Utah my whole life, I never had to worry about feeling pressured because of my religion.
My sister who is currently in the army, describes Utah as a bubble that has it's benefits until you
leave it. When I was first introduced to the wonders and horrors of the internet, I realized that there
was world outside of Utah. A world that encompassed swearing, suggestive material, and cruel riles
against my church. I believe that if I had the chance to experience the world, my testimony would be
able to strengthen and therefore I would not have the urge to crack my screen when some youtube
video rashes my Heavenly Fathers and Savior's church. In Alma 1:19–25 it describes the hardships

Life Lessons Along A Christian 's Journey
Life Lessons along a Christian's Journey
The Bible has stories and lessons that communicates to each of us in different areas of life. The
Bible is the guide to everyone's salvation. Understanding God's voice is understanding the existence
of all the living. It is up to each person to choose a godhead life or not. The responsibility in a
godhead life does not come easy. The understanding, connecting and unity in a godhead life comes
with many tests and trials along the journey, but faith is all it takes.
Understanding
Christians understand that the Bible is from God. There is so much to take in, but we have a lifetime
to get to know God and what are place is in this universe. God does speak to each of us, we just
have to listen. God is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The entire bible is one book, has one author, the Holy Spirit, and has one purpose, to show the fall
of man and God's way to redeem him. No one cannot understand the New Testament without
understanding the Old Testament first.
Connecting
The Old Testament and the New Testament are one book; one balances the other. In the Old
Testament life started when God decided to make Adam, "Let us make human beings in our image,
(Genesis 1:24 NIV)". God revealed himself to humans. This is where God connected on a personal
level with each of us and we learned how to speak to God. This is also the time when the "Fall of
Man" was redeemed. We all may agree that again and again we "fall down", but God is right there.
We just have to believe and pray for God's guidance. God shows grace, forgiveness and love. God
sent his son, Lord Jesus Christ to show us physically and visibly what God is like. God again
revealed himself to the world, by his unconditional love. God is constant in his words. Throughout
the Bible starting in the Old Testament that God's son is coming and tells how he is coming. In the
New Testament, Christ is sent to save all our sins and uphold the universe. It is important to
understand this from the beginning, because whatever is true of God the Father is true of Jesus
Christ the Son and is true of the Holy Spirit. God is three persons, but one God. God is REAL.
Role
To understand God is to understand that, "The Father is God: Jesus Christ is God; the Holy Spirit is

Early Kabbaah Research Paper
The Jewish mystical speculation during the first hundred years of the movement was known by the
Hebrew term Kabbalah, which means, something handed down by tradition. The beginnings of this
movement are usually set in the last decade or two of the twelfth century C.E., and this period of
Kabbalistic incubation is generally thought to end with the composition of the masterful Sef ha–
Zohar (The Book of Splendor). Thus, "early Kabbalah" is the period of Jewish mystical creativity in
Kabbalistic form bracketed by two literary creations of mystical theosophy: the Sef ha–Bahir (The
Book of Brilliance) marks the beginning of this stage and the Zohar, written by the Spaniard
Kabbalist Moses de Leon (c. 1240–1305), marks the end.
Kabbalah is a unique ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only later, and as a result of the contact with medieval Jewish philosophy, the Kabbalah became a
Jewish "mystical theology," more or less systematically elaborated. This process brought about a
separation of the mystical, speculative elements from the occult and especially the magical
elements, a divergence that at times was quite distinct but was never total. It is expressed in the
separate usage of the terms Kabbalah iyyunit (speculative Kabbalah) and Kabbalah ma'asit (practical
Kabbalah), evident from the beginning of the fourteenth century, which was simply an imitation of
Maimonides' division of philosophy into "speculative" and "practical" in chapter fourteen of his
Millot ha–Higgayon. There is no doubt that some Kabbalistic circles (including those in Jerusalem
up to modern times) preserved both elements in their secret doctrine, which could be acquired by
means of revelation of by way of initiation rites. Once rabbinic Judaism had crystallized in the
halakhah, the majority of the creative forces aroused by new religious stimuli, which neither tended
nor had the power to change the outward form of a firmly established halakhic Judaism, the power

Second David Research Paper
From the beginning the revelation of God was an accumulation of people's/man's expectations of
what and who they wanted God to be. "By some, God was expected to work by redirecting the
stream of earthly events, mis–lug up as a Messiah a second David who should restore the lost glories
of Israel's golden age. By others the coming of the Messiah was looked for as the appearance of a
supernatural celestial being who should not redirect, but put an end, to history; and some held that
this would be done by the direct action of God Himself, acting as his own Messiah"( Streitferdt
para.1). I agree with the idea that God, who was manifested into a fleshly being, Jesus, did pre–exist
before his birth at Bethlehem. In Psalm 110 David says this, "The Lord said unto my Lord, sit thou
at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool" (KJV Bible). Here David had a
revelation about the Mesiah. The Lord (present), indicating to David that there would be a Mesiah

In John 10:30 "Jesus thus identifies Himself with God, and confirms His earthly statement– 'I and
My Father are One' (KJV Bible)". (Streidtfert para. 33). In the upper room experience Jesus
identifies his being before the world was formed, proving that he is an eternal Christ. Jesus as a man
was subject to the same things that we as humans are subject to. There are various examples in the
Bible where Jesus is faced with the same temptations that any human being would face. The fact
that Jesus was able to be, do and feel the same as any human being is proof of his physical form and
emotional genetic make–up. The major and most simplistic proof of Jesus as a human was his death.
In the Bible you can also learn of the age of Christ. When Jesus was lost and Mary and Joseph were
searching for him you would realize that when they found Jesus, they found a 12 year old boy. Age
is another way to prove

The Controversy Surrounding The Church Essay
Leithart begins this book by talking about the controversy surrounding the church in the 4th century.
Athanasius, a young man brought up in a pagan household, was taught to fear the Lord from a man
named Alexander from a young age. Athanasius' main opponent during his lifetime was to discount
Arianism, a heresy that tried to propose the "subordination of the Son to the Father," a view that
outright "denied the eternal generation of the Son," making Jesus less than God. The Arians believed
that "the Father exists prior to the Son, since the Son is not eternal, that is, not timelessly self–
subsistent" to the Father. This is to say that the Father does not eternally generate the Son, but
instead came into being at a certain point in history, a blatant heresy that was corrected by
Athanasius and the Church council in the 4th century.
Athanasius believed that Jesus was "shepherd, high priest...Passover Sacrafice," which manifests
itself now in the living incarnate son of Jesus Christ. Jesus is unique, however, in the fact that he is
the all–sustaining high priest "without transition and without succession." Athanasius also believed
that Jesus is eternally generated by the father, and that Jesus, along with the father, is unoriginate,
from alpha to omega. Leithart states that the Arians dishonor God by describing Jesus as originate,
while Athanasius equates Jesus with God and the Holy Spirit in the Holy Trinity. There are four
primary paradigms that Athanasius finds in

St. John Chrysostom 's Homily
Sermons on Christmas morning focus on the birth of a baby wrapped in swaddling cloth laid in a
manger in ancient Bethlehem, such sermons proclaim the wonders of the Nativity. However, such
sermons do more than just communicate the joy of our Savior's birth, for this celebration, as
exemplified in St. John Chrysostom's homily, is an ideal setting to address the question of "who is
Christ". There are many themes and topics in Chrysostom's Christmas morning sermon and through
his speaking of Jesus Christ's birth, the Incarnation, he addresses heresies, enumerates Christian
doctrine, and announces various elements of Christology. Chrysostom opens his sermons rejoicing
over the salvific moment of Christmas and makes known how Christmas is a merciful gift and
expression of true humility by God (110). Such an importance of the grace of this moment is also
found in the writings of St. Leo the Great and St. Augustine as they both affirm this is an act of
generosity not failure or necessity by God. This is important to redemption and to Christology
because it shows how Christ was not obligated to save humanity but did so out of love of Creation.
With this gift makes it salvation possible, for without the Word's free participation our unpayable
debt could not be satisfied as St. Augustine explains. While His incarnational gift allowed Christ to
the Savior and Mediator by costing the Son of God to suffer and die on the Cross, this gift did not
cause Him to be "departed from the

The Holy Ghost ' Is The Second Part Of The Godhead Trinity
The Holy Ghost
Who is the Holy Ghost? He is the third part of the Godhead trinity. He is known as a teacher,
comforter, advocate, helper, power and so much more. The Holy Ghost should never be referred to
as an 'it'. He is a person that we should all come know.
What is his purpose? He came to teach us about God and Jesus, he knows them best. He comforts,
helps, guide, empowers, advocates, fills us, and so much more. In essence He equips us for the
journey ahead. He will be the one that will help us possess the Promised Land in our lives.
In the Old Testament, the Spirit of God could not dwell in a person because of sin. They were in
need of a Savior to pay that debt so that there would be no more sacrificing of animals. The Spirit of

However His presence even when silently moving around us cannot be denied. It is a love and
power that will surely bring you to repentance and rejoicing.
We are the temple that house the trinity of heaven in the form of Holy Ghost. This gives us power to
be effective witnesses to all the world. We now have the ability to keep going and not faint because
that power will always strengthen us. We are enabled to walk by the Spirit, which means we can
recognize and understand what God is saying and doing in different seasons of our life. Holy Spirit
is like a light that is always showing us the way. Guiding us in and out of life 's challenges with
ease.
He prays through us and for us to know the perfect will of God. So in the days to come be certain
that your victory lies in unwrapping the total package. When you receive Christ into your heart do
not reject the power that will equip you for your journey, Holy Ghost! The Importance of Walking In
the Spirit
In order for us to possess our land we have to do it by the Spirit of God. We talked previously about
things being discerned or perceived. The Spirit of God brings heaven on earth for us by making the
word come alive. God is Spirit and those that worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth.
Everything about God is spirit, we have to utilize him in our natural world just at Jesus did. Jesus
not only told us but showed us the way to do it.
Walking in the Spirit is not a mental know how, we cannot rationalize this

Economic Trinity
Jesus Christ's death and resurrection play an extremely critical role in the revelation of the Trinity
because both of these events reveal the "immanent" Trinity and the "economic" Trinity to humanity.
Without Jesus' death and resurrection, humanity would have absolutely no idea that God is tri–
personal; instead, they would still only comprehend God as a solitary being. Jesus' death and
resurrection shatter this notion and replace it with a much more dynamic and fecund understanding
of God. In order to understand God's triune nature, it is first important to look at the economic
Trinity. In creation, it is possible to come to know that there is a God, and this takes place through
nature (i.e. natural theology). This knowledge about God, however, is limited and it does not fully
reveal him or his triune identity. The only way that humanity was able to initially comprehend God's
true identity is through his actions in history. Through his saving actions in history (i.e. salvation
history), God revealed himself gradually to humanity: 1.) to the people of Israel through their
history; 2.) in the person of Jesus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The immanent Trinity refers to the inner and eternal triune life of God. The immanent Trinity leads
to the revelation of the economic Trinity and vice versa, as Karl Rahner would say. The difference
between these two perspectives on the Trinity is in terms of their emphasis on the triune God's
divine activity. The economic Trinity emphasizes the Trinity's activity in creation, whereas the
immanent Trinity emphasizes the Trinity's internal activity among the three divine persons. Despite
the knowledge that we have about the immanent Trinity, the Trinity is still a mystery that becomes
more incomprehensible as a person begins to comprehend it (i.e. the principle of analogy: the more
we know, the more we realize how much we do not

How Are Brahman And God Similar In Western Religions
Journal Reflection 1
Madison Dever
How are Brahman and God similar in Western Religions? How are they different? Why? Brahman
and God have many similarities and differences. Brahman is the ultimate, infinite Godhead of
Hinduism while God is the head of many different Western Religions such as Christianity. Both are
infinite and limitless. They are also very different, Brahman is a human being divine "self", which
remains formless, while Christianity's God is the creator of human beings who are devotees who
follow God. "This infinite center of every life, this hidden self or Atman, is no less than Brahman,
the Godhead. Body, personality, and Atman–Brahman– a human self is not completely accounted for
until all three are noted." (Smith 21) Both Brahman and God have infinite power. Brahman is the
human self but has a being that never dies and is unrestricted. The ultimate goal in Hinduism is to
achieve this realization of one self to earn liberation (moksha). In Christianity, God is seen as an ...

Holy Spirit Research Paper
This is a great verse of Scripture to lift the heart in praise and worship of God the Father, Jesus
Christ, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It make me think of the Triune Godhead, and how it is for our
benefit that God sent Jesus to atone for our sins, break down the barrio that separates us from Him,
not only did Jesus Christ carry out the mission that God ordained; He sent the Holy Spirit to keep us,
guide us in all that Jesus had taught, and that God's will be done.
I think that the Holy Spirit is not given the praise that He is worthy of receiving. I have written
about the experience that I have encountered with the Holy Spirit, and it was so real. Once you have
experienced the Holy Spirit, it will change your life in one way or another.

The And Of The Godhead

conversations all across America. We often exclaim His name as we are given a new piece of

Do we ever really stop and think about what it is that this phrase is saying? Who is "God" and is
He really yours to be had? How can we as a society say and hear this phrase so often, and yet I

In some Christian religions these three individuals are considered
to exist as one, and it is referred to as The Trinity. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day
Saints, however, believes that God the Father, Jesus the Messiah, and The Holy Spirit are three
distinctly separate individuals with their own distinct roles in our eternal progression. According
to the church's first Article of Faith, "We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son,
Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.". We esteem this principle of the gospel of Jesus Christ to
be so important that in the recorded word of God that is the Pearl of Great Price, there is a
Prophet to whom the Lord gave a commandment that highlighted the plain and simple need of
the understanding of this principle. In Moses chapter 7, verse 11, "And he gave unto me a
commandment that I should baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, which is full of
grace and truth, and of the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of the Father and the Son."
Baptism, being a necessary ordinance for our salvation and eternal life, was to be done in, not
only the name of God the Father, but also in the name of the Son and the Holy Ghost. Each and
every one of them play a necessary role to ensure the progression of the human race towards
eternal life, joy, and happiness.

Many opposed this event by turning to Monasticism, these people wanted to devote their lives to
God, but despite of all of this Weisser notes that Oneness still exist.
Chapter 6
This chapter explains the events taking place in the eighth through fifthteenth centuries (middle
Ages). It is when secular leaders are struggling against the papacy for power. During this time the
crusades took place. The main problem in the middle Ages was between the pope and the king, this
desire for power caused the churches from the East and West to separate. This made the Cathari and
Waldenses to question the authority of the pope and placed Biblical authority over men.
Chapter 7
In chapter seven Weisser takes a deep look into the Reformation, and how the printing of pamphlets
in mass number can cause a greater influence than before. The Catholic Church had become very
corrupt and caused men like Martin Luther and John Calvin to push against the church abuse. These
men had different views, but for the most part they agreed. We also see the Oneness of God doctrine
in the sixth and seventeenth centuries. This was inspired by Michael Servetus and once again the
challenge of this pagan doctrine (Trinitarians) would last for two centuries.
Chapter 8
In this chapter Weisser explains how the Enlightenment period disagreed with the Reformation, this
caused separation within the Christian church. This period also brought the

Gnosticism And Tertullian's Development Of Christian...
During a time where Gnostic ideology was one of the heresies gaining momentum, Tertullian and
Irenaeus were two of the individuals that brilliantly defended the faith. They saw Gnosticism
through the same lens as many other Church Fathers, as nothing else but a heresy. In their time this
was a real threat to the true faith that was laid out for them through the Scriptures and through the
oral tradition passed down by the apostles. Like many heresies, Gnosticism started off within a
Christian foundation. However, what makes it more interesting is that Gnosticism as philosophy or
the ideology as a whole may have predated Christianity since we see some epistles arguing against
some of the Gnostic principles (Kelly 23). To further refute the heresy, Irenaeus and Tertullian had a
tremendous contribution in the development of Christian apologetics. While similar, many have
credited Irenaeus to his ecclesiological development and Tertullian to his Christological
development in the early Church.
Through the writings of Irenaeus, we quickly learn of how he viewed the Scriptures and the
apostles. Irenaeus laid his argument by stating a foundation that every Christian would agree with,
which was that Christ himself is the ultimate source of Christian doctrine. While this may seem very
intuitive, it is because of this foundation that Irenaeus lays out that he is able to further develop his
argument. Irenaeus continues with this argument by stating that Christ has revealed his message

God is also three individual and distinct beings. The Godhead is made up of God the Father, God the
Son, and God the Holy Spirt. It is important to note that although God is three different beings they
are all consider one God because of the oneness of their nature. Although, the Bible never explicitly
speaks about the Trinity, each of the members of the Godhead can be seen working together. The

Dr. McGarth's book explains that the best way of understanding the basis of the doctrine of the
Trinity is to consider it to be the inevitable and legitimate way of thinking about God, the works of
God and what the Bible says (p. 102). The doctrine of the Trinity can be based upon the process of
biblical activities and Christian experience. In Act 17:29 (King James Version) Paul is says,
"Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto
gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man 's device." He is explaining that God is our creator,
He is not the creation. God is sovereign and in control while at the same time being close and
personal. When anyone studies a doctrine like this, or reads about it in a theology book it may
appear that writers are saying, "Here are the guidelines, principles or creeds we believe, and this is
what you should believe." We cannot and should not solely rely just on someone's theological study
or research, but instead refer to and rely on the unfailing Holy Wordof God, the Bible. Dr. McGrath
also states that the best way to grasp the Doctrine of the Trinity is to think of the Christian Bible as
setting the nature and actions of one God (p. 102). As a Christian, it is important to remain faithful
to the witness of God whether or not others fully understand it. The Apostle's Creed (McGrath,
2004) is made up of three short paragraphs, one each for each "Person" of the Trinity. It

Cooperation In The Godhead Research Paper
Cooperation in the Godhead
Based on our previous lecture we discussed about the Godhead it brought an understanding of how
the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit cooperate. The Godhead demonstrates God's intra–relationship by
expressing how the persons of the Godhead relate to each other, within the unity of being one
indivisible God. The purpose of this paper is to not only gather an understanding of the Trinitarian
theology, which is a Christ–centered way of understanding who God is; however, it is to introduce
lessons through scripture reading so students can learn from seeing the Godhead as a pattern for our
lives.
In lecture 3 we discussed how the Father, son, and holy spirit cooperate in redemption and salvation,
therefore identifying the distinction instead of separation. In Matthew 3:16–17, scripture quoted:
And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens

Unit 7 Deuteronomy 6

  • 1. Unit 7 Deuteronomy 6 Unit #7 Biblical Reflection In Deuteronomy 6, Moses reminded the people of Israel about all that the Lord had and would continue to do for them. He also reminded them that the Lord is the only true God, and He demands complete devotion from His people. If the Israelites obeyed the commands of the Lord, He would cause life to "...go well with you...," and the Israelites would "...increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey..." (Deut. 6:3). However, the Lord would punish disobedience with disaster. Thus, Moses described the Lord as gracious and benevolent, but He is also the rightful ruler and judge of all peoples. He alone is God, and He demands to be worshipped as such. Over one thousand years later, the apostle Paul discussed some of the same attributes of God in his letter to the Corinthians. Specifically, in the first few verses of chapter 8, Paul discussed the authority of the Lord as the one true God, and he declared that "...whoever loves God is known by God" (1 Corinth. 8:3). Interestingly, in Paul's brief discussion of the authority of God, he referenced and expounded upon the Shema, which Moses had initially declared in Deuteronomy 6. The Shema proclaims "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one" (Deut. 6:4). Paul further explained that "'There is no God but one'" (1 Corinth. 8:4b), but the one true ... For example, knowing that the Spirit is our permanent, always–present guide and comforter is a tremendous encouragement. A proper view of the Trinity is also critical as we share the Gospel with others: because the doctrine of the Trinity informs our worship, we must be able to articulate this doctrine to others so that they can rightly relate to and worship our triune ... • 3. The Christian Doctrine Of The Trinity The Christian doctrine of the Trinity essentially teaches that there is one God. This makes it a monotheistic religion at face value just like Islam and Judaism. The uniqueness about most of mainline Christianity from the other monotheistic religions is that though it claims to be a monotheistic religion that worships one God; their one God is actually a Godhead that is composed of three distinct persons namely: The father; The Son and; The Holy Spirit. The Christian God has therefore been very hard to comprehend and explain in simple language (Alston 1997). Even very learned Christian scholars define the concept of the trinity as a mystery understandable only by God himself (Kärkkäinen 2007). This position has however not deterred Christians or made them feel like their faith is in contradiction. This is because they have explained that by the very fact that God is a mystery is proof that he is God and as such, he is the only one who can really understand himself. Jesus is also found to have two natures, which are fully united together, which is another mystery that can only be fully understood by God. Jesus is said to posses the full nature of man and its attributes and the full nature of God and its attributes. It is logical for the creator to understand his creation very well and very hard for the created creature to fully, understand his creator due to the disadvantage of being a creature and so being limited (J.P.Moreland and W. L. Craig 2003). This is the explanation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Trinity To Nazienzus Essay The Trinity to Nazienzus is absolutely essential in his Five Theological Orations, and in them he defines the "Father is the Begetter and the Emitter; without passion of course, and without reference to time, and not in a corporeal manner." This means that "though numerically distinct there is no severance of Essence." Christ is not subordinate to the Father, and the Holy Ghost is not subordinate to the Father or the Son; the Godhead is Triune in unity and is of the same substance. Even though the Holy Spirit and the Son "are from [the Father], though not after Him," they still share the same essence as Him in the Trinity. This is an important distinction, because any part of the Godhead that has not existed for all time would not be God by definition. Nazienzus explains this by saying that the "cause is not necessarily prior to its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He goes so far to say that the "notion of Two Sons, one of God the Father, the other of the mother" warrants the loss of adoption into God's Kingdom. God and man have two distinct natures, just as the body and the soul are two distinct natures, "but there are not two sons or two gods" in the person of Jesus. This is valid because it adheres to scripture, and because the alternative is heresy. There are plentiful examples of the divinity of God, one being John 8:58, where Jesus proclaims to the dismay of the Pharisees "before Abraham was, I am," which caused them to try and stone Him for what they considered blasphemy. His humanity can be seen in Matthew 4:2 where He hungered after fasting for 40 days and nights, and in Mark 15:37 where the human person of Jesus died on the cross, even though his deity descended to Sheol. This shows the validity of the Trinitarian model, which means that "the Three are One and the same in Godhead," as Christ is still the fully functioning second person of the ... • 7. The Trinity Doctrine Of God Though the word "Trinity" is not explicitly found in the Bible, the teaching that there are three individual personalities of divine nature (known in the New Testament as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) is thoroughly scriptural and has been generally acknowledged by the writers of "Christendom" since the apostolic age. "Around A.D. 190, Theodotus of Byzantium advocated the absolute personality of God. Asserting that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were one person, he sought to propagate his views in the church at Rome. He is said to be "the first representative of Dynamistic Monarchianism whose views have been recorded". The Trinity doctrine cannot be proven by simply reading the scriptures; it has to be described and explained in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The question is: what does Scripture mean by one God? In the Old Testament, the words el, eloah, and elohim, from related roots, are generic designations of God. The New Testament term is theos. "Elohim", meaning "God", is sometimes confused to show the plurality of the Godhead, this is not a correct interpretation. In the Hebrew words are plural in construction but singular in the way that they are used. Also the Hebrew often used plural forms to show majesty or greatness of one person or deity. Even though these are plural words, to say they represent a multiplicity in the Godhead would be wrong. Historically Hebrew people and there writings are monotheistic. When you are referring to God using "Elohim", it is always used with a singular verb such as "is" and "created" which are found in Genesis 1:1, but the scripture also uses Elohim in pagan references in the Bible, and in doing so it uses plural verbs with "Elohim" as well. These appellations, when used of the true God, simply suggest the nature or quality of being divine– deity. The word "God" is not the name of a personality; it is the name of a nature, a quality of being. When it is said, therefore, that there is but one God, the meaning is: there is but one divine nature. "The treatment of God will fall into three parts: first we will consider that which pertains to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Importance And Cons Of The Nicene Creed Christians overwhelmingly attest that monotheism is key to the Christian confidence, as the Nicene Creed (and others), which gives the customary Christian meaning of the Trinity, starts: "I have faith in one God". From sooner than the seasons of the Nicene Creed, 325 CE, different Christian figures pushed the triune secret nature of God as a standardizing calling of confidence. As per Roger E. Olson and Christopher Hall, through supplication, contemplation, study and practice, the Christian people group finished up "that God must exist as both a solidarity and trinity", arranging this in ecumenical chamber toward the finish of the fourth century. Most current Christians trust the Godhead is triune, implying that the three people of the Trinity are in one union in which every individual is additionally completely God. They additionally hold to the precept of a man–god Christ Jesus as God incarnate. These Christians additionally don't trust that one of the three heavenly figures is God alone and the other two are not but rather that each of the three are strangely God and one. Some Christian religions, for example, Mormonism, contend that the Godhead is in reality three separate people which incorporate God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Every individual having an unmistakable reason in the fantastic presence of mankind. • 11. Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity Two Methods of Defending the Trinity Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defenses that are studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying degrees of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph Madhi with few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and therefore more effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a compelling argument to refute the Caliph's simple yet powerful statement: "If He is one, He is not three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction?" (69). The most obvious of Timothy's logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the "Son" of the Trinity is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew Scripture to show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: "God, therefore, called Christ 'a Lord' through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that Christ is not a servant" (82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince the Caliph, lies in the fact that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also flawed from a modern point of view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to claim for example that the "We" of the creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity. Timothy makes similar mistakes in reference to the Koran and the Gospels. He says, "It is also possible that the three letters placed before some Surahs in the Kur'an...refer also in your Book to God, His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Aquinas's Argument On The Universe order. The divine order and harmony of the universe further support Aquinas's argument. The intelligent designer is the final cause of all things. Psalm 19:3–4 makes a valid point as well. It states, "There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun."[18] These two verses also discredits Hume's argument by saying the universe has no creative attributes of an intelligent designer. Though, the universe cannot speak with a voice, they speak without using words. God's power is revealed and proclaimed through heavens presentence. Not only is God's attributes revealed through the universe, the heavens ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Analysis : Thomas Forsythe Torrance T.F. TORRANCE: TRINITARIAN INTRODUCTION Thomas Forsythe Torrance was a theologian who was passionate about God and about theological accuracy. He fully invested himself in educating people regarding the nature of God and bringing together theological and doctrinal factions within the body of Christ. To quote Torrance, "...I find the presence and being of God bearing upon my experience and thought so powerfully that I cannot but be convinced of His overwhelming reality and rationality. To doubt the existence of God would be an act of sheer irrationality, for it would mean that my reason had become unhinged from its bond with real being". Indeed, his mother had given him a copy of Barth's Credo that encouraged him to oppose not only rationalistic liberalism but fundamentalism and deterministic sorts of Calvinism as well". A key tenet of Torrance's theological expositions is that no one can reach to God, but God must reach to Him. Torrance expressed his opposition to the concept of subjectivism–"the doctrine that all knowledge is limited to experiences by the self, and that transcendent knowledge is impossible" by stating that a seeker cannot find God by looking into himself, but by seeking for God in God. In 1927 the Torrance family moved to Scotland where Torrance bloomed academically and went onto University. While in graduate studies, Torrance was further influenced by Barth's writings, especially in relation to the Trinity. "...Torrance became utterly convinced that any rigorous scientific approach to Christian theology must begin with actual knowledge of God reached through God's self–revelation in Christ and the Holy Spirit". Torrance worked diligently to promote ecumenical relations between the Easter and Western churches. He also addressed unique doctrinal issues held within the Roman Catholic Church. In all of his dealings with each church's doctrinal differences, his intent was to facilitate friendly dialogue between the churches and a greater understanding of God from the Trinitarian standpoint. • 17. Reflection Paper I always knew there was a God. That is something I never questioned. When I was little I was taught about the LDS church by my grandparents. My dad always taught me that the LDS church was not true. He would tell me things like "all mormons are going to hell" and he would tell me it was a church based on lies. At such a young age this was very confusing for me, but I have always been a daddy's girl so of course at one point I started to wonder if my dad was right. I wasn't able to be baptized at 8 because my dad would not allow it. When I was in 4th grade my mom, my sister, and I moved out of my grandparents house and became inactive to the point where I had forgotten a lot of what I had learned from my grandparents and at church. We continued to be in active and would attend church maybe two or three times a year. The missionaries would come to our door occasionally, but my mom would always tell them that me and my sister are unable to be baptized because my dad won't allow it and send them away. When I was visiting my dad the summer before my 7th grade year I went to church with him all summer at an evangelical christian church. A week before I was suppose to go back to my moms house my dad told my sister and I that we were going to live with him until we graduated. For the next 6 months I continued going to church with my dad. I went through one of the hardest trials I have ever gone through. This caused me to hit a point where I felt extremely alone and even abandoned. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Christianity is a religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Ever since Christianity started to emerge in the mid–first century it has only increased in size and became even more powerful now than in the origins of the Religion. Jesus Christ is considered to be the Son of God and through the Bible's scriptures that include many sacred writings of Christianity it has given people hope and more importantly something to believe in. Faith is a huge part of any Religion because that is when you put your complete trust or confidence in someone or something. For Christians our faith is put into the Bible, believing in and worshipping a supreme being, God, and a superhuman, Jesus Christ. The importance to Christianity and to anyone's growth in Christian life can be seen through believing in someone whether human or divine, God as three persons in one divine being, genuine friendship, the sacraments, and Jesus Christ as the fullness of both divinity and humanity. Although Christianity is not for everyone, there are thousands of different kinds of Religion from which an individual can choose to follow. Even though Christianity is one of the biggest Religions in the World there are just some people who either don't believe in Christianity or have a hard time understanding it. Being brought up as a Christian I have put my faith in God's hands as did my family and many others. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Is Mormonism Really A Cult Mormonism–Is it really a cult? Many people see The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also known as LDS or Mormonism, as a cult. But are they really a cult? Again others see them as a valid denomination of Christianity. Which of these is more correct? A great deal of people consider Mormonism to be a cult. They think that they have strange customs, such as not eating fruit. It is true that Mormonism is different in many ways from most Christianity, but does that really make it a cult? To quote the textbook: "A cult represents a distinct break from other traditions". So by that definition, all religion is cultist in nature. • 23. The Trinity : The Doctrine Of The Trinity There is nothing like going to church on Sundays and listening to a very heartfelt sermon about how God played a role in someone's life. Not only that, but also the stories each Sunday vary depending on whether the Father, Son, or Holy Spirit is given the credit in the story. Sadly, some preachers fail to explain that all three persons were active in the person's life. Walter Martin, an American Evangelical Christian minister and author, makes sure to point out that the "Doctrine of the Trinity teaches that within the unity of the one Godhead there are three separate persons who are coequal in power, nature, and eternity" (Martin). The most important part about this statement being that the three different persons within the Godhead are equally the same. So how does this make sense? Historically, many philosophers and theologians have tried to explain God without the idea of the Trinity. This, however, did not work out so well for them. As Michael Reeves, author or Delighting in the Trinity, explains, theologians such as Arius back in the early fourth century, who tried to define God, missed the true picture. Reeves explains that "without the Son, God cannot truly be a Father; thus alone, he is not truly love. Thus he can have no fellowship to share with us, no Son to bring us close, no Spirit through whom we might know him" (Reeves). Furthermore, viewing God as only one person limits the amount of involvement He is capable of having in one's life. The reason there are so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Cosmic Trinity Good Morning all, welcome to this Beyond Belief presentation of Trinity artwork. I am Eloise Daly and my watercolour painting is titled 'A Cosmic Trinity'. I chose this art form to express my concept of the Trinity because it flows easily, like how each reflection of God can relate to the essence of God. This artwork is representational; it was chosen because the trinity can be clearly represented. In this piece, the Earth is the centre of the artwork to signify how God watches over us. The Father as the creator of life, the Son as the flesh of God, and the Holy Spirit as the love and spirit of God. • 27. Modern Theology: Karl Barth and Emil Brunner Essay The doctrine of election has been one of the key subjects discussed by various influential theologians throughout the two thousand years. Many have attempted to understand and embrace the enigma of election presented in the bible. It is important to realize that there are many views pertaining to the doctrine of election ranging from prominent theologians such as Augustine and Pelagius, Calvin and Arminius, Barth and Brunner and various other theologians and their respective counterparts. Karl Barth and Emil Brunner are the giants on the subject of modern theology. Their theological insights are such that even now people are mesmerized by their incredible aptitude for theological understanding and presentation of that framework in a fluid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He presents the theology of election as a focus on the predestination choice God made to be who He is for humanity. This God does by God electing God the only begotten Son of the eternal God to be substitute atonement for the humanity and then electing an elected man who is the true Adam that is Christ Jesus. Barth presents the election done by the Triune Godhead in divine freedom to be for the humanity which reveals a beyond comprehension and unmeasurable grace and love of God towards humanity. Thus Jesus Christ is both the electing God and also the elected man. Barth portrays Jesus Christ as the great pleasure and will of God in force beyond realization. Barth declares that "the doctrine of election is of God electing man predestined not only of man but also of Himself." Jesus Christ is not purely the unveiling of the enigma of God. Jesus is the very thing concealed in the heart of God, and the revelation is of Jesus Christ Himself not anything else. Jesus is the elector God who is active in electing all of humanity in Himself. Barth's concept of the doctrine of election is the totality of the Scriptures and the anchor from whence understanding God from a finite perspective becomes possible. Barth argues that an applicable doctrine of election must have its foundation on Jesus Christ who is the revelation of God to the humanity. Barth's view on Christ is that of not just an emissary of election but rather He Himself is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Trinity, The Three Distinct Persons Of God Essay Throughout the ages, scholars and different denominations tried to explain the Trinity, the three distinct Persons of God. But yet through the limited understanding of human knowledge and perceptions of God, they were not able to comprehend indefiniteness of God. One of the issues that Christians wanted to understand is the Triune God; in order to understand Trinity, it is helpful for us to know the existence of God. Then ask questions like; How the three Gods united and become One God? How should we understand Trinity? What are the positions and differences of Seventh–day Adventist belief from Evangelical? The scope and limitation of this paper are to answer the questions above and my own understanding of God as I study the scriptures. Let us fully understand the existence of God, however for us to be able to comprehend God, we must ask God in a humble way to reveal Himself to us. Meaning the core of this study is base on faith and supported by reading the scriptures. To begin with, the sub–questions where does God come from? The Seventh–day Adventist belief stated that the existence of God assumes in the scriptures, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Gen1:1) . In science, we are taught in order for the hypothesis to be valid it should undergo scientific observation and analysis. In this kind of processes, we are trying to observe the existence of God by the use of scientific tools, in contrast, science should be the primarily tool to prove the ... • 31. Skeptics Of The Holy Spirit To a skeptic the Holy Spirit may seem as another description of God the Father that the Spirit is not a separate person at all. Some acknowledging the Spirit contend the Spirit is not fully God. However, Scripture supports the existence of the Trinity, including the person of the Holy Spirit, sharing the same authority, and power as God the Father and the Son. Through the works of the Spirit, skeptics can be converted by perceiving the things of God once hidden. Of great importance, Wesley identified the Holy Spirit as one of the three persons of the Trinity. That the Spirit of God had all the attributes of God, and is eternally in communion the fullness of God (Oden, 2012, p.105– 106). Our God has said, "I am the Lord; that is my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Spirit is the witness to the adoption of believers into God's family as a joint heir with Christ (Romans 8:12–16). Wesley describes the Spirit as guiding, rectifying, teaching, purifying and uniting believers together in the will of God through Jesus Christ (Oden, 2012, p.106). The Bible tells us while Jesus has ascended above and is seated at the right hand of the Father, the Holy Spirit dwells in believers here ( Matthew 22:44, Psalm 101:1, Acts 1:5, John 14:17). It is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that allows believers to see the truth, and perceive the Spirit himself – "He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you." John 14:17 (NLT). So it is by the infilling of the Holy Spirit, that one not only experiences works of the Spirit, but confirmation of the Spirit Himself. In conclusion Scripture confirms the person of the Holy Spirit, sharing equally in the glory and authority of the Godhead. The Spirit of God possesses attributes reserved only for Almighty God and reviles the things of God to man, including the presence of the Spirit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. What Is The Trinity? What is the Trinity? The Trinity is the Christian Godhead as one God in three persons. The three beings are God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. They are three beings in perfect relationship in one essence. Each member of the Godhead are equally important, but serve different positions in authority. [2 The word Trinity is the Christian doctrine of the Godhead.] The Trinity is considered a divine mystery beyond comprehension. The word trinity itself is never actually used in the bible, but is clearly see in the scriptures. Old testament one of the old testament verses that share the trinity is Gen 1:26 "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." The first story of creation supports the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and at the very least, it does not oppose the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. A New testament passage that supports the trinity is John 1:1–11 "1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it." These different Councils were the Council of Nicea, Council of Constantinople, and the Council of Chalcedon. The Council of Nicea was initiated because Bishop Alexander along with other Bishops wanted to counter the misguided teachings of Arius. They believe in God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They interpreted that Jesus is begotten of Son of God (not made) and of one substance with God True God from true God). The study of Jesus Christ (Christology) is very important to us as Christians in our walk and our daily lives. In order to fully be able to follow Christ, we must be able to understand who He is. Hebrews 10:25 says, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching". Christology compares to the Nicene orthodoxy because the Nicene Creed represents a part of our history when we were trying to get a greater understanding about Christ, his deity, the Trinity and Jesus as a man. Because they believe that divine apostolic authority was lost from the earth after the death of the ancient apostles, a restoration of that authority was necessary. • 39. Theology : Theology Vs. Theology NAZIENZUS' THEOLOGY COMPARED TO ARIAN THEOLOGY Ever "since the Council of Chalcedon in 451, Gregory has been honored with the title "the theologian" for his definitive teaching on the Trinity in the late–fourth century." This has been bestowed to him because of his precise theological works "that helped to shift the official orthodoxy of the church and empire from the homoian doctrine supported by [the Arians] to the fully Trinitarian" faith that was confirmed at the Council of Constantinople in 381 AD. One of the arguments presented against Nazienzus is that the Holy Spirit is not fully deified as the Father and the Son are deified. Arian theology asserts that the Holy Spirit is an illuminator that gives people the power to become right with God, but is not on the same level as God. Nazienzus' refutes this heresy by asking, "if [the Holy Spirit] is in the same rank with myself, how can He make me God, or join me with [the] Godhead?" One cannot logically subvert the role of the Holy Spirit because He brings people into communion with God, and only God himself can make Christians into new creations. Nazienzus uses John 1:9 to "express precisely the deity" of the Holy Spirit, and in using this verse, along with others, he refuted the false Arian theology that the Holy Spirit is not fully divine. Eunomius, one of the Arian extremists, believed that the Holy Spirit is a substance, and to consider Him a part of the deified Trinity is "completely ridiculous and so wholly ... This pillar however has caused many debates amongst many other religions and has been rejected by most with a lot of speculation about Jesus and His followers. The Jewish nation however is one of the most sceptical with regards to the acceptance of the Trinity, the New Testament and Jesus. • 43. Main Hermeneutical Strategies Used By Basil One of the main hermeneutical strategies used by Basil in his work is confirm the oneness of the triune God. While some of his heretical opponents insist that the triune Godhead is not fully unified, Basil set the record straight by saying that "according to the distinction of Persons, both are one and one, and according to the community of Nature, one." Basil is not talking about two or three different Gods, but of one single God, one that "is not cloven in two, nor the glory divided," but instead of a God that is triune in essence. The eternal generation of the Son, along with the eternal precession of the Holy Spirit is essential to the doctrine of the triune God, and Basil asserts that taking any part of this away from God is heresy. The Godhead can only rightly be described in its triune form, as Holy Spirit is conjoined "to the one Father through the one Son, and through Himself completing the adorable and blessed Trinity." One of Basil's greatest typological arguments is that the Holy Spirit is equal to the Father throughout the canon of scripture. He asks the question, "how can he who calls Scripture God–inspired, because it was written through the inspiration of the Spirit, use the language of one who insults and belittles Him?" That is to say, how can scripture that is inspired by the Holy Spirit still be the living, breathing word of God? In the Old Testament life started when God decided to make Adam, "Let us make human beings in our image, (Genesis 1:24 NIV)". God revealed himself to humans. This is where God connected on a personal level with each of us and we learned how to speak to God. This is also the time when the "Fall of Man" was redeemed. Early Kabbaah Research Paper The Jewish mystical speculation during the first hundred years of the movement was known by the Hebrew term Kabbalah, which means, something handed down by tradition. The beginnings of this movement are usually set in the last decade or two of the twelfth century C.E., and this period of Kabbalistic incubation is generally thought to end with the composition of the masterful Sef ha– Zohar (The Book of Splendor). Thus, "early Kabbalah" is the period of Jewish mystical creativity in Kabbalistic form bracketed by two literary creations of mystical theosophy: the Sef ha–Bahir (The Book of Brilliance) marks the beginning of this stage and the Zohar, written by the Spaniard Kabbalist Moses de Leon (c. 1240–1305), marks the end. It is expressed in the separate usage of the terms Kabbalah iyyunit (speculative Kabbalah) and Kabbalah ma'asit (practical Kabbalah), evident from the beginning of the fourteenth century, which was simply an imitation of Maimonides' division of philosophy into "speculative" and "practical" in chapter fourteen of his Millot ha–Higgayon. • 53. The Controversy Surrounding The Church Essay Leithart begins this book by talking about the controversy surrounding the church in the 4th century. Athanasius, a young man brought up in a pagan household, was taught to fear the Lord from a man named Alexander from a young age. Athanasius' main opponent during his lifetime was to discount Arianism, a heresy that tried to propose the "subordination of the Son to the Father," a view that outright "denied the eternal generation of the Son," making Jesus less than God. The Arians believed that "the Father exists prior to the Son, since the Son is not eternal, that is, not timelessly self– subsistent" to the Father. This is to say that the Father does not eternally generate the Son, but instead came into being at a certain point in history, a blatant heresy that was corrected by Athanasius and the Church council in the 4th century. Athanasius believed that Jesus was "shepherd, high priest...Passover Sacrafice," which manifests itself now in the living incarnate son of Jesus Christ. Jesus is unique, however, in the fact that he is the all–sustaining high priest "without transition and without succession." Athanasius also believed that Jesus is eternally generated by the father, and that Jesus, along with the father, is unoriginate, from alpha to omega. Leithart states that the Arians dishonor God by describing Jesus as originate, while Athanasius equates Jesus with God and the Holy Spirit in the Holy Trinity. St. John Chrysostom 's Homily Sermons on Christmas morning focus on the birth of a baby wrapped in swaddling cloth laid in a manger in ancient Bethlehem, such sermons proclaim the wonders of the Nativity. However, such sermons do more than just communicate the joy of our Savior's birth, for this celebration, as exemplified in St. John Chrysostom's homily, is an ideal setting to address the question of "who is Christ". There are many themes and topics in Chrysostom's Christmas morning sermon and through his speaking of Jesus Christ's birth, the Incarnation, he addresses heresies, enumerates Christian doctrine, and announces various elements of Christology. Chrysostom opens his sermons rejoicing over the salvific moment of Christmas and makes known how Christmas is a merciful gift and expression of true humility by God (110). Such an importance of the grace of this moment is also found in the writings of St. Leo the Great and St. Augustine as they both affirm this is an act of generosity not failure or necessity by God. This is important to redemption and to Christology because it shows how Christ was not obligated to save humanity but did so out of love of Creation. With this gift makes it salvation possible, for without the Word's free participation our unpayable debt could not be satisfied as St. Augustine explains. While His incarnational gift allowed Christ to the Savior and Mediator by costing the Son of God to suffer and die on the Cross, this gift did not cause Him to be "departed from the ... • 59. Economic Trinity Jesus Christ's death and resurrection play an extremely critical role in the revelation of the Trinity because both of these events reveal the "immanent" Trinity and the "economic" Trinity to humanity. Without Jesus' death and resurrection, humanity would have absolutely no idea that God is tri– personal; instead, they would still only comprehend God as a solitary being. Jesus' death and resurrection shatter this notion and replace it with a much more dynamic and fecund understanding of God. In order to understand God's triune nature, it is first important to look at the economic Trinity. In creation, it is possible to come to know that there is a God, and this takes place through nature (i.e. natural theology). This knowledge about God, however, is limited and it does not fully reveal him or his triune identity. The only way that humanity was able to initially comprehend God's true identity is through his actions in history. Through his saving actions in history (i.e. salvation history), God revealed himself gradually to humanity: 1.) to the people of Israel through their history; 2.) in the person of Jesus ... The economic Trinity emphasizes the Trinity's activity in creation, whereas the immanent Trinity emphasizes the Trinity's internal activity among the three divine persons. • 61. How Are Brahman And God Similar In Western Religions Journal Reflection 1 Madison Dever How are Brahman and God similar in Western Religions? How are they different? Why? Brahman and God have many similarities and differences. Brahman is the ultimate, infinite Godhead of Hinduism while God is the head of many different Western Religions such as Christianity. Both are infinite and limitless. They are also very different, Brahman is a human being divine "self", which remains formless, while Christianity's God is the creator of human beings who are devotees who follow God. "This infinite center of every life, this hidden self or Atman, is no less than Brahman, the Godhead. Body, personality, and Atman–Brahman– a human self is not completely accounted for until all three are noted." (Smith 21) Both Brahman and God have infinite power. Brahman is the human self but has a being that never dies and is unrestricted. The ultimate goal in Hinduism is to achieve this realization of one self to earn liberation (moksha). • 63. Holy Spirit Research Paper This is a great verse of Scripture to lift the heart in praise and worship of God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It make me think of the Triune Godhead, and how it is for our benefit that God sent Jesus to atone for our sins, break down the barrio that separates us from Him, not only did Jesus Christ carry out the mission that God ordained; He sent the Holy Spirit to keep us, guide us in all that Jesus had taught, and that God's will be done. I think that the Holy Spirit is not given the praise that He is worthy of receiving. I have written about the experience that I have encountered with the Holy Spirit, and it was so real. Once you have experienced the Holy Spirit, it will change your life in one way or another. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. The And Of The Godhead "Oh my God!" is a phrase that has become more and more frequently used in day to day conversations all across America. We often exclaim His name as we are given a new piece of information, become annoyed, are surprised, and when we are exhausted and pleading for help from deity. We hear His name in movies, song lyrics, and everyday life. There is no escaping it. Do we ever really stop and think about what it is that this phrase is saying? Who is "God" and is He really yours to be had? How can we as a society say and hear this phrase so often, and yet I don't think many of us actually know who this "God" is that we speak of. As we come to learn and understand who the members of the Godhead are, we will come to know and gain an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some Christian religions these three individuals are considered to exist as one, and it is referred to as The Trinity. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–Day Saints, however, believes that God the Father, Jesus the Messiah, and The Holy Spirit are three distinctly separate individuals with their own distinct roles in our eternal progression. According to the church's first Article of Faith, "We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.". We esteem this principle of the gospel of Jesus Christ to be so important that in the recorded word of God that is the Pearl of Great Price, there is a Prophet to whom the Lord gave a commandment that highlighted the plain and simple need of the understanding of this principle. In Moses chapter 7, verse 11, "And he gave unto me a commandment that I should baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, which is full of

Many opposed this event by turning to Monasticism, these people wanted to devote their lives to God, but despite of all of this Weisser notes that Oneness still exist. Chapter 6 This chapter explains the events taking place in the eighth through fifthteenth centuries (middle Ages). It is when secular leaders are struggling against the papacy for power. During this time the crusades took place. The main problem in the middle Ages was between the pope and the king, this desire for power caused the churches from the East and West to separate. This made the Cathari and Waldenses to question the authority of the pope and placed Biblical authority over men. Chapter 7 In chapter seven Weisser takes a deep look into the Reformation, and how the printing of pamphlets in mass number can cause a greater influence than before. The Catholic Church had become very corrupt and caused men like Martin Luther and John Calvin to push against the church abuse. These men had different views, but for the most part they agreed. We also see the Oneness of God doctrine in the sixth and seventeenth centuries. This was inspired by Michael Servetus and once again the challenge of this pagan doctrine (Trinitarians) would last for two centuries. Chapter 8 In this chapter Weisser explains how the Enlightenment period disagreed with the Reformation, this caused separation within the Christian church. This period also brought the ... • 70. Gnosticism And Tertullian's Development Of Christian... During a time where Gnostic ideology was one of the heresies gaining momentum, Tertullian and Irenaeus were two of the individuals that brilliantly defended the faith. They saw Gnosticism through the same lens as many other Church Fathers, as nothing else but a heresy. In their time this was a real threat to the true faith that was laid out for them through the Scriptures and through the oral tradition passed down by the apostles. Like many heresies, Gnosticism started off within a Christian foundation. However, what makes it more interesting is that Gnosticism as philosophy or the ideology as a whole may have predated Christianity since we see some epistles arguing against some of the Gnostic principles (Kelly 23). To further refute the heresy, Irenaeus and Tertullian had a tremendous contribution in the development of Christian apologetics. While similar, many have credited Irenaeus to his ecclesiological development and Tertullian to his Christological development in the early Church. Through the writings of Irenaeus, we quickly learn of how he viewed the Scriptures and the apostles. Irenaeus laid his argument by stating a foundation that every Christian would agree with, which was that Christ himself is the ultimate source of Christian doctrine. While this may seem very intuitive, it is because of this foundation that Irenaeus lays out that he is able to further develop his argument. Irenaeus continues with this argument by stating that Christ has revealed his message ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Belief In The Trinity Belief in the Trinity A part of the Christian faith that has long been debated over, yet is a part of our solid foundation, is the belief in the Triune God. Christians believe that there is only one God, but God is also three individual and distinct beings. The Godhead is made up of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirt. It is important to note that although God is three different beings they are all consider one God because of the oneness of their nature. Although, the Bible never explicitly speaks about the Trinity, each of the members of the Godhead can be seen working together. • 76. The Trinity : God Of Three Persons THE TRINITY: GOD IN THREE PERSONS The 21st century has become a time of drastic change. America and the world are becoming more irreligious, urban, diverse and postmodern. Almost everything is now being debated and re–examined concerning who God is and how the Bible is construed. Hollywood and TV have helped shaped a variety of people beliefs about Who God is more than the teaching of the Bible or any religious literature. Just as conducting a study of the Triune of God was historically important for the church, it is even more important today to teach on the Trinity. Therefore, it is essential to do a spiritual study in order to get a better understanding of the true and reliable doctrine of the Trinity. No one has to be puzzled or has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. McGarth's book explains that the best way of understanding the basis of the doctrine of the Trinity is to consider it to be the inevitable and legitimate way of thinking about God, the works of God and what the Bible says (p. 102). The doctrine of the Trinity can be based upon the process of biblical activities and Christian experience. In Act 17:29 (King James Version) Paul is says, "Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man 's device." He is explaining that God is our creator, He is not the creation. God is sovereign and in control while at the same time being close and personal. When anyone studies a doctrine like this, or reads about it in a theology book it may appear that writers are saying, "Here are the guidelines, principles or creeds we believe, and this is what you should believe." We cannot and should not solely rely just on someone's theological study or research, but instead refer to and rely on the unfailing Holy Wordof God, the Bible. Dr. McGrath also states that the best way to grasp the Doctrine of the Trinity is to think of the Christian Bible as setting the nature and actions of one God (p. 102). As a Christian, it is important to remain faithful to the witness of God whether or not others fully understand it. The Apostle's Creed (McGrath, 2004) is made up of three short paragraphs, one each for each "Person" of the Trinity. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Cooperation In The Godhead Research Paper Cooperation in the Godhead Based on our previous lecture we discussed about the Godhead it brought an understanding of how the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit cooperate. The Godhead demonstrates God's intra–relationship by expressing how the persons of the Godhead relate to each other, within the unity of being one indivisible God. The purpose of this paper is to not only gather an understanding of the Trinitarian theology, which is a Christ–centered way of understanding who God is; however, it is to introduce lessons through scripture reading so students can learn from seeing the Godhead as a pattern for our lives. In lecture 3 we discussed how the Father, son, and holy spirit cooperate in redemption and salvation, therefore identifying the distinction instead of separation. In Matthew 3:16–17, scripture quoted: And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, "This is ...
