Faye Abdellah Researches
Reasearches: Faye Glenn Abdellah (born 1919) dedicated her life to nursing and, as a researcher and
educator, helped change the profession's focus from a disease–centered approach to a patient–
centered approach. She served as a public health nurse for 40 years, helping to educate Americans
about the needs of the elderly and the dangers posed by AIDS, addiction, smoking, and violence. As
a nursing professor, she developed teaching methods based on scientific research. Abdellah
continued to work as a leader in the nursing profession into her eighties. Abdellah was born on
March 13, 1919, in New York City. Years later, on May 6, 1937, the German hydrogen–fueled
airship Hindenburg exploded over Lakehurst, New Jersey, where 18–year–old ... Show more content

As her career progressed, her research evolved to include physiology, chemistry, and behavioral
sciences. In 1957 Abdellah headed a research team in Manchester, Connecticut, that established the
groundwork for what became known as progressive patient care. In this framework, critical care
patients were treated in an intensive care unit, followed by a transition to immediate care, and then
home care. The first two segments of the care program proved very popular within the caregiver
profession. Abdellah is also credited with developing the first nationally tested coronary care unit as
an outgrowth of her work in Manchester. The third phase of the progressive patient care equation –
home care – was not widely accepted in the mid–twentieth century. Abdellah explained in her Image
interview that "Short–sighted people at the time kept saying home care would mean having a maid
(nurse) in everyone's home. They could not understand that home care with nurses teaching self care
would be a way of helping patients regain independent function." Forty years later home care had
become an essential part of long–term health care. Established Standards In another innovation
within her field, Abdellah developed the Patient Assessment of Care Evaluation (PACE), a system of
standards used to measure the relative quality of individual health–care facilities that was still used
in the health care industry into the 21st century. She was also one of the first people in

A Secret Sorrow Essay
Linda Lockhart ENGLISH 113–500 Mr. Matthew Williams 21 February 2011 How Can Love Never
Fail? Karen Van Der Zee "A Secret Sorrow uses, Characterization, Tone and Irony to show that love
is powerful and will heal any hurt. Anyone can say that what you hope for always doesn't come to
past, and then you may lose hope of it ever happening. It is possible to give up and live in despair or
even defeat. This is very similar to Karen Van Der Zee, the writer of "A Secret Sorrow portrays in
her story. Karen uses the characterization, tone, and irony to show how love is more than a feeling.
The Characterization of "A Secret Sorrow played a significant part of the story. The story was

transition and dialogue, with natural conversation. The irony weaved into A Secret Sorrow as reveal
how the love that Kai has doesn't fade away with difficult situation, but grows stronger. Faye's
inability to have children, forecast her feeling of fear, because she has already predicted her
relationship with Kai was not going to end in marriage. Kai's gentle, sensitive nature soothed away
Faye mental scars. Karen van Zee use of characterization, tone, and irony to help absorb readers into
the story in a way that they feel they have experienced this kind of love. Many couples are not
successful of keeping the love alive in relationship contrary to Kai and Faye. Even if problems come
between the relationships there is no separation. Unconditional love will help one to work out their
problems. Kai and Faye had adopted three children. They had two girls and one boy. They were

Film Analysis Of Chinatown By Roman Polanski
This week's movie is Chinatown by Roman Polanski. This movie in short follows this private
investigator J.J. Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson) who is hired by the wife of the chief engineer of the
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. At first, the person who hires him is a facade to the
real wife of the chief engineer. The original intentional for hiring him was to find out if the chief
engineer was having an extramarital affairs with someone else; he was not. As time goes on, the plot
thickens with the chief engineer mysterious dying from a supposed suicide. Yet, undeterred J.J took
it upon himself with the help of the actual chief engineer wife Evelyn Mulwray (Faye Dunaway) to
find out who murder the chief engineer and other saddening things related to deceit, corruption, and
murder. The actions committed by J.J. are in some ways a heroic in one form and in others the exact
opposite where in turn it caused a fiasco of events. Some of the ways the directors show this is
through the dramatic terms of close up shots, pans, and crane shots. Chinatown by Roman Polanski
uses the dramatic elements of close up shots, pans, and crane shots to show J.J. Jake Gittes as an
antihero.
The element of close up shots has been used in this movie when uncovering the secret of Evelyn.

father, who was a business partner with her husband. However, the conversation turns into why she

The Life Of Faye G. Abdellah
In life one has to take risks in order to bring forth a vision to life. Through risk taking, Faye G.
Abdellah achieved her inner most dreams which was furthering the science of nursing research.
Faye was a pioneer nursing researcher that helped transform nursing theory, nursing care and
nursing education. In 1960, she was influenced by the desire to promote patient–centered
comprehensive nursing care. Abdellah described nursing as a service to individuals, to families and
therefore to the society. She was a rebel from the start in her efforts to promote nursing. Through
time, she learned to disguise her rebellious leadership methods under the title "politically correct."
Even when faced with setbacks Faye continued to persevere and thrive for change (Houser & Player,
2004).
Furthermore, a team leader is someone who inspires, mentors, guides, thrives for change and sets an
example. Throughout Faye's life she demonstrated strong team leadership styles such as her
remarkable courage and determination for pursuing her vision. The courageous risks she took in her
leadership roles were all in an effort to bring about change in nursing and improve patient care
throughout the world. For example, during a visit to the San Diego long–term care facility Faye
noticed statutory violations and other evidence of substandard care. During her opening of the
conference of the American Health Care Association, she announced to them that the lack of patient
care was unacceptable in the homes

Faye Carey Analysis
Do you see a problem in the world? Do you have the passion to change it? If you have heard the
term, 'teen activism,' the definition of it is "Youth activism is youth engagement in community
organizing for social change." There have been many times when people have wanted to change the
world (or, in other words, was an activist.) You may know Faye Carey or Bianca V. These teenagers
are activists who saw a problem that they could change and made huge differences. Their cause was
animal abandonment. In this text, you will see what they did to make a difference outside their
community, or even country. Faye Carey You have probably gone to a pound with so many dogs
waiting to be adopted, or seen stray animals left on the side of the road. Faye saw this issue, and her
compassion made her start looking into it deeper, and ended up helping dogs way outside of her
community. One of the most significant things that Faye Carey did was she advertised many dogs,
and many of them were adopted. In the article, "Teenage Girl is Dogs' Best Friend," it emphasizes,
"Faye managed to re– home over 60 dogs." This shows that the dogs that ... Show more content on

world wide, and many people use it. That way, many people can see Faye's page. The final way

Narcissism: Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disor
About 1 in 100 people have Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder, OCPD (International OCD
Foundation, 2010), and when the person has this disorder they can have trouble in their personal
relationships. In their work life they do an exceptional job in whatever it is they do, but to their co–
workers and boss they can be mean. In the public's eyes they are the best person to have ever lived,
but to their close friends and acquaintances they can be a cruel individual. Many times a person with
OCPD can be a Narcissist. Narcissism is when an individual believe that they should be praised and
receive excessive admiration. Only around 1% of the population of America has narcissism that
have been studied (American Psychology Associtaion, 2015). It is believed that we actually have
17% of the population that is narcissistic. People with this personality disorder typically have low
self–esteem, does not respond positively towards criticism and critiques. Also they manipulate
people into getting whatever they want. In the award winning movie, Mommie Dearest, both of
these personality disorders are shown by Joan Crawford, portrayed by actress Faye Dunaway, in her
way for bringing up her adopted child Christina Crawford, played by both Mara Hobel (child) and ...

The Sorrowful Woman Short Story
Everyone experiences sorrow in their lives, it is not an enjoyable feeling, but a person may learn life
lessons from dealing with it. Two women experience the dreadful feeling of sorrow in two different
stories. The first woman's name is Faye, from A Secret Sorrow by Karen van der Zee. The second
woman is from "The Sorrowful Woman" by Gail Godwin. In both stories sorrow plays a big role in
the plots, but the two stories are extremely different. The story, written by van der Zee is more
enjoyable than Godwin's because of the way the characters behave, the conflict, and fairy tale
qualities. The characters in both stories must deal with family dilemmas, but the way the characters
deal with them are different. Faye and Kai are in a serious relationship together until Faye feels she
must leave him. She knows she is barren and cannot have the children she desires. Faye feels she is
terrible for Kai because she cannot give him children. She loves her husband so much, she is willing
to leave him so he can have a real family. However, her husband refuses to leave and even demands,
"You're coming with me, now. And I'm not letting you out of my sight until we're safely married"
(van der Zee 35). Kai is extremely demanding, but lets his wife know he will never abandon her
because she cannot bear children. His love for her is admirable and a model for all couples. All Faye
desires is a loving family with her husband Kai. One woman who feels completely different than

You might say you're an animal lover but do you care for it? Faye Carey is teen activist who studies
animals. Some things you could say about Faye is that she doesn't quit at anything and that she'll
keep moving forward even when there's tough situations to make. One example, is she manages to
re–home more than sixty dogs. Here are some things I've learned about Faye and some things that
you can learn from me! When Faye started to volunteer at the shelter she decided to make a
facebook page so people can adopt the dogs. Another example is that Faye always grooms the
puppies and photographs them before she puts them on the facebook page. Therefore, Faye also
posts the new dogs available each week for adoption on her facebook page. Every Time Faye
volunteers at the shelter, the shelter receives 20 new dogs each week but some dogs still need re–
homing. A quote from a worker also from the shelter says " This takes a lot of heat off the pound for
us trying to get these dogs into homes." A quote from Mr. Oliver says "he appreciates Faye in every

This is not what happen to John Wick. He prevailed in avenging his last gift from his dead wife, a
dog named Daisy. This film was mainly about John and how he, in the end, obliterated his enemy. I
will explain the cause and effect of this decision that Iosef made, and why this was such a terrible
decision. First off the cause. The cause of John going berserk was Iosef. Iosef was a terrible person
who though he was untouchable. He thought he could take what he wanted and killed who he
pleased. This was correct until he killed John's puppy, which was a final gift from his dead wife, and

The Day of the Locust Essay

search of the American Dream. They travel west hoping to escape less than perfect lives and pursue
success in
Hollywood. The characters in this novel dream of a life of luxury, having lots of money, and living
happily ever after. They eventually come to the realization that the seemingly picture perfect life that
California represents is not as easy to attain as they once thought. The characters in The Day of the

Faye's insincere discernment of love is a prevalent example of Hollywood's degenerative impact
upon those in search of materialistic success.
Todd's failed efforts to gain the love of Faye Greener characterize his downfall and failure to aspire
to his dreams and goals. While continuing to pay no attention to Todd, Faye Greener strives to
become famous among the movie scene in Hollywood. Her beauty and allure are only surpassed by
her rapaciousness and materialism. A dim cognizance of these traits lead her to blame herself for her
father's death. "I killed him" (122), Faye exclaims realizing that she had once informed him that if
he could not buy her what she wanted that she would leave him to find someone who could. As Faye
faces her guilt for her father's demise, she furthermore sacrifices her moral beliefs when she works
as a prostitute to afford her father's funeral. Miss Greener's life strays more distant from her dreams
as she finds herself being sucked deeper into the Hollywood world of sex, drugs, and deceit. Faye's
selfishness not only shatters her dreams, but correspondingly plays with the emotions and lives of
others. Her constant flirting leads to fights between Earle Shoop and Miquel, eventually
transforming two friends into loathing ememies. At the same time, she drives Homer Simpson to

Analysis Of The Book ' The Play ' Essay
The first thing I noticed about the script is there is no FADE IN: or FADE OUT. The script is done
by an amateur that has no clue how to follow proper industry format rules. There is a clear cut
inciting incident within the first five pages, but the audience is lost by page 15 because they don't
have any idea who is the main character of the story. The story starts out fast and furious but fizzles
out in the second act. The Script is 23 pages too long. Most of the description is written as a novel.
Need to cut down on the description. Too much black blotches of text. Why should the Faye listen to
the plight of her abductor during the whole film? She should try to get away and not listen to his sad
story. Faye should use her sexuality to escape. There's no obstacles for the characters to overcome in
this script. The set up to Faye's abduction needs more time to develop. Need to show that the taxi
driver was following the girls. There is no time for the audience to catch up to the action. For
example, the taxi driver needs to be watching Faye. The audience needs to sense danger to be able to
participate in the moment. Faye is not crucial to the story. She should be cut from the script. She
adds no cinematic or dramatic purpose to the story. The story can be told in present time and no
need for flashbacks. There is a love story in this script. It needs to find its way without the
flashbacks. The tension could be higher if the taxi driver shoots Faye's girl friend in

Audra's War: A Short Story
It was battle morning. War morning. Audra woke in darkness and stuck her head out the bedchamber
window. It was cool out, not frigid, and gentle wisps of wind shook the leaves. If the weather stayed
this calm, that would be advantageous, because arrows would remain on their proper trajectory once
loosed, and they needed every advantage possible. She glanced up at the sky and spotted a handful
of blue–black clouds easing by. Some cloud cover, little wind, and no precipitation... this bode well.
At any moment, Faye and Una would burst into the room and insist upon dressing Audra in her
battle clothes and leather armor. And once again, they would try to convince her not to go. "My lady,

the throne, and protracted war in Aber Hael. Since Carlton's brother had not been heard from in
years on end, he was presumed dead, Audra had declared Vaughan to be the next king should she
and her son die. However, that did not seem necessary, because, for inexplicable reasons, Audra
knew Rory would live. Behind his back, she made sure Vaughan had assigned a score of men to
remain at his side until death. Yet still, she had not revealed to Rory the name of his true father, and
now, on the morning of battle, it was too late. He should not ride out burdened with that knowledge;
his focus needed to rest solely on the fight ahead. Thus, a letter remained locked away in her foot

"Burning of Los Angeles" Essay
In the book The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West, Tod Hackett is an artist who was scouted to
come to Hollywood to learn set and costume designing. After walking around Los Angeles, Tod sees
people that are "of a different type"(West 23). Tod wants to paint these people who he believes came
to California to die. Throughout the book Tod's painting, "The Burning of Los Angeles", is coming
to life. In the last section of the book West has Tod in a mob scene. Tod is painting the people he has
met. He is painting Faye; "Faye ran proudly throwing her knees high. Harry stumbled along behind
her, holding unto his beloved derby hat with both hands" (West 201). This quote shows Tod's view
of Faye and her relationship with her father. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two scenes showed Faye like she was in the painting; she had to be better than everyone and
proud to be herself, a selfish woman getting what she wanted. Tod also painted Claude with his
turned as he ran to thumb his nose at his pursuers (West 201). Tod saw Claude this way because of
the first impression of Claude and his friends. Claude had a huge house that was an exact
reproduction of a mansion in Mississippi. After meeting some people Tod is shown a rubber horse in
the pool. Tod asks why, the woman responds, "To amuse" (West 39). Tod could not understand why
someone would pay money for a rubber horse for amusement. Since Tod saw the house, all the
money, the servants, and all the guests, he could imagine him feeling to good to be apart of the
group he was painting. Tod also painted Homer who started the mob scene at the theater. He was
manipulated by Faye to be a person for her to toy with. Faye would use Homer for his money, his
house, and at times his affection. Tod painted him with his big hands clawing the air in anguish. He
did this because Homer could not express his feeling when he would ask. Tod saw Homer as a
person who needed a friend because he was filled with problems. Tod knew Homer was one of those
people who came to Los Angeles to die, but Homer actually came to Los Angeles to get better. I
believe he could have painted many other people he met such as Miguel, Earl, and Abe. I think these
people also were important

Karen van der Zee's A Secret Sorrow and Gail Godwin's A Sorrowful Woman
Though fulfilling love, happiness and trust in a relationship can be comforting, couples often are
unsuccessful in finding or keeping the love that their relationship need; even if issues may interfere
within the relationship, couples should find a way in working through their problems. Once a
couple's happiness, trust and love have been fulfilled, they can experience unconditional love.
Although they would need to make every possible step to heal their relationship, if and when their
relationship breaks down, there is still much they can learn. With this stated this idea holds opposing

"Faye, we're in this together–you and I. Don't you see that? It's not just your problem, it's ours."
Faye was afraid to come out with her secret of not being able to conceive children, mainly because
she thought that that would affect her relationship with Kai. "If I told you...you wouldn't want me
anymore!" Kai understood what Faye was going through. He knew how much it meant to her to
have children. He also knew that he had to stay by her side during her grief. But Faye felt like she
was letting him down. "Kai, I...I can't live all my life with your regret and your disappointment.
Every time we see some pregnant woman, every time we're with somebody else's children I'll feel
I've failed you! I..." At this point, Kai showed his sympathy for her. It did not matter to him that his
children would not come directly from inside of her. All he cared about was being happy with Faye
and being able to spend the rest of his life with her. However, Faye could not understand why he
wanted to be with her and not any other woman who could give life to his children. "You have a
choice, don't you see that? You don't have to marry me. You could marry someone else and have
children of your own." With Faye saying that, Kai still chose to be with Faye because she is the only
woman he has ever loved since the first day they met. He could not compare any other woman to

Secret Sorrow Analysis
Do you have a favourite genre for stories? Stories come in all sorts of genres and themes. They
attract different types of audiences because they make connections with some readers. For example,
A Secret Sorrow is more Fantasy, and "A Sorrowful Woman" is more realistic. Audiences like me
enjoy fantasy stories since we have an interest in the love connection to the characters. I prefer A
Secret Sorrow because of fantasy, relatability, and love.
In a secret sorrow, Kai and Faye show an example of a fantasy story. "His eyes held her locked in
unrelenting demand "Why should I be disappointed?"" (Page 33, Paragraph 52) Kai presents like a
prince that cares for Faye because these actions are not seen often in the real world. Most males do
not act like him. They are rougher and not understanding. They do not know how to respond like
Kai. Kai responds in a way that makes Faye feel special and wanted. Kai in a way tells Faye that she
is wonderful and he will only love her. This novel is written for the female audience, which is why
Kai is able to speak the way he speaks. "Without even knocking he came into her room and walked
over to the bed. She could feel the mattress sag as his weight came down on it. Her heart was
pounding like a sledgehammer, and then his arms came around her and he drew her against him.
"Faye," he said quietly, "please marry me."" (Page 34, Paragraph 73–74). This part of the story can
make the audience fulfill their dream of this romantic scene. The man you

Comparing the Narrative and Formal Devices of ChungKing...
Comparing the Narrative and Formal Devices of ChungKing Express and A Bout de Souffle
Wong Kar Wai's movie 'ChungKing Express' bears many similarities to Godard's 'A Bout de
Souffle'. To start with, Wai employs a number of cinematic techniques, obviously derived from the
French New Wave, such as for example the jump–cut which is evidently taken from Godard's film.
His use of the Godard–ian jump cut seamlessly blends temporally–exclusive scenes together,
making the passage of time unnoticeable. Other Godard–ian touches include the many shots of
clocks, which remind the viewer that despite the protagonist's fixation on the past, time continues to
move on and that moments in the present are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She wears the same type of cloths, has the same hair do and her rather eccentric attitude to life also
corresponds to that of her French counterpart.
The primary function of the traditional Hong Kong film industry was to churn out movies aimed at
the general public and make sure that they bring in a profit. This is much like the French film
industry was before the emergence of the French New Wave. However Wai's 'ChungKing Express'
was clearly not aimed at the masses, but rather only at the people who have developed a real
understanding and appreciation for the art of film. Godard's 'A Bout de Souffle' was also a film
which was made to rebel against the old style of French cinema and break the conventions of the
film industry. In this way, both of the film directors have something in common with each other.
Much of Wai's work has included themes of time passing and how every human emotion, every
material object or specifically tinned food expires. This reoccurring matter isn't simply an accident
but it carries a very significant political message. At the time that Wai made 'ChungKing Express',
Hong Kong was pending to be handed over from the British democratic powers, to the Chinese
communist government. This period was very turbulent for the Hong Kong people as they were in
anticipation of a great change, but they didn't know whether it would be negative or positive.

Cannibal Holocaust: One of the Greatest Cinematography...
Ruggero Deodato's 1980 Cannibal Holocaust is arguably the most controversial film to date. The
film's plot consists of two distinct stories that are continually presented differently than their actual
timeline; however, directly influence each other. The movie follows the demise of four ruthless
documentary filmmakers: Alan Yates, Faye Daniels, Jack Anders and Mark Tomaso, as they
adventure into the Amazon Rainforest in order to capture footage of primitive cannibal tribes. As the
audience finds out in the beginning of the film, the documentarians have yet to return, prompting the
second and present timeline of the movie, the story of New York University anthropologist, Dr.
Harold Monroe. Dr. Monroe leads a rescue party into the Amazon ... Show more content on

Both Cannibal Holocaust's set and setting are in the Amazon to depict a sense of realism; however,
the set was not actually inhabited by cannibalistic tribes. The film has a continuous theme in which
it attempts to present itself as a real experience, for example, the entire 16mm footage uses natural
lighting. The four cinema verité filmmakers have specific responsibilities during their journeys.
Alan's role as the director is to narrate the situation for the camera. Naturally, having that job, Alan
has the most amount of time pictured in the film of the four. Faye's role was the least conducive to
the group; she in charge of scripting and both her and Alan were romantically involved. Jack and
Mark, the final two members were the cameramen, using 16mm cameras, they usually filmed
together simultaneously, in different perspectives allowing the sequence to be viewed from different
distances, angles and depth of fields. Alan, being in charge of the operation, was a negative
influence on his entire team as he constantly encouraged them to act savagely. Along with Alan,
Jack and Mark repeatedly commit immoral acts when opportunities permit. In watching the
sequences of the plot, the properties of mise–en–scène are disturbing, but when in conjunction with
the cinematography, show the progression of the

Hatred And Anger In Homer's Like The House
This scene not only serves to illustrate why hatred and anger are not able to be acted out, but also
serves to indicate the moment when Homer begins to engage with the fantasy. However, while Faye

Homer's weren't, which is what makes him both atypical and more dangerous than the other

Similar to the argument that Faye has with her father, the moment one person is unable to keep up
the fantasy, no one is able to successfully participate, which more often than not, leads the
participants to want to destroy what has deprived them of their escape. Faye, in this case, is the
person who refuses to fully participate in the fantasy because "[s]he became bored with the life they
were leading together and as her boredom deepened, she began to persecute him" (111). The issue
here seems to be the fact that there is still an authenticity to Homer's actions and emotions, whereas
Faye is incapable of feeling the same type of tenderness, or being candidly generous the way Homer
can. As a result, she found his "servility was like that of a cringing, clumsy dog, who is always
anticipating a blow, welcoming it even, and in a way that makes overwhelming the desire to strike
him" (111). The anger that Faye feels leads her to be both verbally and physically abuse to Homer.
While they are at dinner with Tod, Faye physically forces Homer to drink a cocktail by pouring the
liquor into his mouth and holding "her hand over his lips so that he couldn't spit it back. Some of it
came out of his nose," even though Homer has told her before that drinking makes him feel sick
(112). Once he realizes that drinking may be the only thing that will appease Faye, Homer takes the
next drink "but this time he took it and drank it himself fighting the stuff down" (113). He begins to
act as though he enjoys it and does "his best to laugh with [Faye]" as the night goes on (114). But, it
is too late. Faye is no longer fully participating in the fantasy with Homer, and when Tod witnesses

1928 and 1929 were important years for Los Angeles–born Chinese actress Anna May Wong. News
reports about her Hollywood movies decreased, instead, according to an American gossip columnist
visiting Europe during Wong's tenure, she was "acclaimed by nobility" in several European

which misrepresented Asian women, Wong left the United States for Europe (Vechten, 2003). She

Analysis of The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West
Nathanael West's The Day of the Locust tells the story of people who have come to California in
search of the American Dream. They travel west hoping to escape less than perfect lives and pursue
success in
Hollywood. The characters in this novel dream of a life of luxury, having lots of money, and living

Faye. This compulsion eventually leaves Todd with feelings of failure and breaks him down. Faye
"could only love a handsome man and would only let a wealthy man love her" (67). Faye constantly
disregards Todd's feelings for her, slowly crushing his dream life. Faye's insincere discernment of
love is a prevalent example of Hollywood's degenerative impact upon those in search of

Todd's failed efforts to gain the love of Faye Greener characterize his downfall and failure to aspire

Shortly before his death, Jesus feet were washed in an expensive perfume by one of his followers; a
rare moment of excess in a life lived in humble means. For some of the people now leading
congregations in his name though, that rare moment of excess has turned into a lifestyle. One
famous example is the previously mentioned Rev. Creflo Dollar. The New York Times wrote in
2006, "Mr. Dollar, whose Rolls–Royces, private jets, million–dollar Atlanta home and $2.5 million

this spirituality trap that Carrette and King address. The "ideas and claims" are seen when prosperity

buildings are signs of a healthy spiritual lifestyle being lived in God's favor. Overall,

The Day Of The Locust Analysis
The Daphne is a type shrub that produces a sugary citrus scent that could fill up any room and even
a whole garden. Blooming in February, it produces tiny clusters of white to pink flowers containing
small berries. Sometimes called the romance plant, it is able to attract anyone that comes across it
just by its appearance or scent. However, looks can be deceiving because this plant is extremely
poisonous, containing toxins in all parts of the plant's body like the berries and leaves which if
ingested could cause extreme pain, comatose or sudden death. Just like this small shrub, many of the
characters in The Day of the Locust by Nathaniel West are not as they appear to be. West uses
illusion as a central theme to set the basis of the events regarding the character's true identity within
the novel. Each character being more different from the image they showcase than the last, they all
play a role in the overarching dichotomy that is displayed throughout the novel. The Day of the
Locust, mainly follows the lives of Tod Hackett, Faye Greene and Homer Simpson and the
characters that intertwine with them. The novel first introduces Tod Hackett who has recently
graduated and moved to Hollywood to become a costume designer. Tod judges the people around
him and his surroundings with a critical eye which inspires him to start working on The Burning of

Faye Abdellah Researches

  • 1. Faye Abdellah Researches Reasearches: Faye Glenn Abdellah (born 1919) dedicated her life to nursing and, as a researcher and educator, helped change the profession's focus from a disease–centered approach to a patient– centered approach. She served as a public health nurse for 40 years, helping to educate Americans about the needs of the elderly and the dangers posed by AIDS, addiction, smoking, and violence. As a nursing professor, she developed teaching methods based on scientific research. Abdellah continued to work as a leader in the nursing profession into her eighties. Abdellah was born on March 13, 1919, in New York City. Years later, on May 6, 1937, the German hydrogen–fueled airship Hindenburg exploded over Lakehurst, New Jersey, where 18–year–old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As her career progressed, her research evolved to include physiology, chemistry, and behavioral sciences. In 1957 Abdellah headed a research team in Manchester, Connecticut, that established the groundwork for what became known as progressive patient care. In this framework, critical care patients were treated in an intensive care unit, followed by a transition to immediate care, and then home care. The first two segments of the care program proved very popular within the caregiver profession. Abdellah is also credited with developing the first nationally tested coronary care unit as an outgrowth of her work in Manchester. The third phase of the progressive patient care equation – home care – was not widely accepted in the mid–twentieth century. Abdellah explained in her Image interview that "Short–sighted people at the time kept saying home care would mean having a maid (nurse) in everyone's home. They could not understand that home care with nurses teaching self care would be a way of helping patients regain independent function." Forty years later home care had become an essential part of long–term health care. Established Standards In another innovation within her field, Abdellah developed the Patient Assessment of Care Evaluation (PACE), a system of standards used to measure the relative quality of individual health–care facilities that was still used in the health care industry into the 21st century. • 3. A Secret Sorrow Essay Linda Lockhart ENGLISH 113–500 Mr. Matthew Williams 21 February 2011 How Can Love Never Fail? Karen Van Der Zee "A Secret Sorrow uses, Characterization, Tone and Irony to show that love is powerful and will heal any hurt. Anyone can say that what you hope for always doesn't come to past, and then you may lose hope of it ever happening. It is possible to give up and live in despair or even defeat. This is very similar to Karen Van Der Zee, the writer of "A Secret Sorrow portrays in her story. Karen uses the characterization, tone, and irony to show how love is more than a feeling. The Characterization of "A Secret Sorrow played a significant part of the story. The story was written in 1981, when Faye has a serious car ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faye in tremendous grief: it is like she lost a love one and mourning. The story has a smooth transition and dialogue, with natural conversation. The irony weaved into A Secret Sorrow as reveal how the love that Kai has doesn't fade away with difficult situation, but grows stronger. Faye's inability to have children, forecast her feeling of fear, because she has already predicted her relationship with Kai was not going to end in marriage. Kai's gentle, sensitive nature soothed away Faye mental scars. Karen van Zee use of characterization, tone, and irony to help absorb readers into the story in a way that they feel they have experienced this kind of love. Many couples are not successful of keeping the love alive in relationship contrary to Kai and Faye. Even if problems come between the relationships there is no separation. Unconditional love will help one to work out their problems. Kai and Faye had adopted three children. They had two girls and one boy. They were from far away places. The children were from countries of war, poverty and tragedies They need love, food and care. The children came with their own issues. Living in America the children learn American culture. • 9. Film Analysis Of Chinatown By Roman Polanski This week's movie is Chinatown by Roman Polanski. This movie in short follows this private investigator J.J. Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson) who is hired by the wife of the chief engineer of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. At first, the person who hires him is a facade to the real wife of the chief engineer. The original intentional for hiring him was to find out if the chief engineer was having an extramarital affairs with someone else; he was not. As time goes on, the plot thickens with the chief engineer mysterious dying from a supposed suicide. Yet, undeterred J.J took it upon himself with the help of the actual chief engineer wife Evelyn Mulwray (Faye Dunaway) to find out who murder the chief engineer and other saddening things related to deceit, corruption, and murder. The actions committed by J.J. are in some ways a heroic in one form and in others the exact opposite where in turn it caused a fiasco of events. Some of the ways the directors show this is through the dramatic terms of close up shots, pans, and crane shots. Chinatown by Roman Polanski uses the dramatic elements of close up shots, pans, and crane shots to show J.J. Jake Gittes as an antihero. The element of close up shots has been used in this movie when uncovering the secret of Evelyn. The specific scene that I'm talking is about J.J. comforting Evelyn about her involvement with her father, who was a business partner with her husband. However, the conversation turns into why she is helping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Life Of Faye G. Abdellah In life one has to take risks in order to bring forth a vision to life. Through risk taking, Faye G. Abdellah achieved her inner most dreams which was furthering the science of nursing research. Faye was a pioneer nursing researcher that helped transform nursing theory, nursing care and nursing education. In 1960, she was influenced by the desire to promote patient–centered comprehensive nursing care. Abdellah described nursing as a service to individuals, to families and therefore to the society. She was a rebel from the start in her efforts to promote nursing. Through time, she learned to disguise her rebellious leadership methods under the title "politically correct." Even when faced with setbacks Faye continued to persevere and thrive for change (Houser & Player, 2004). Furthermore, a team leader is someone who inspires, mentors, guides, thrives for change and sets an example. Throughout Faye's life she demonstrated strong team leadership styles such as her remarkable courage and determination for pursuing her vision. The courageous risks she took in her leadership roles were all in an effort to bring about change in nursing and improve patient care throughout the world. For example, during a visit to the San Diego long–term care facility Faye noticed statutory violations and other evidence of substandard care. If you have heard the term, 'teen activism,' the definition of it is "Youth activism is youth engagement in community organizing for social change." There have been many times when people have wanted to change the world (or, in other words, was an activist.) You may know Faye Carey or Bianca V. These teenagers are activists who saw a problem that they could change and made huge differences. Their cause was animal abandonment. In this text, you will see what they did to make a difference outside their community, or even country. Faye Carey You have probably gone to a pound with so many dogs waiting to be adopted, or seen stray animals left on the side of the road. Faye saw this issue, and her compassion made her start looking into it deeper, and ended up helping dogs way outside of her community. One of the most significant things that Faye Carey did was she advertised many dogs, and many of them were adopted. In the article, "Teenage Girl is Dogs' Best Friend," it emphasizes, "Faye managed to re– home over 60 dogs." This shows that the dogs that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 21. The Sorrowful Woman Short Story Everyone experiences sorrow in their lives, it is not an enjoyable feeling, but a person may learn life lessons from dealing with it. Two women experience the dreadful feeling of sorrow in two different stories. The first woman's name is Faye, from A Secret Sorrow by Karen van der Zee. The second woman is from "The Sorrowful Woman" by Gail Godwin. In both stories sorrow plays a big role in the plots, but the two stories are extremely different. The story, written by van der Zee is more enjoyable than Godwin's because of the way the characters behave, the conflict, and fairy tale qualities. The characters in both stories must deal with family dilemmas, but the way the characters deal with them are different. Faye and Kai are in a serious relationship together until Faye feels she must leave him. She knows she is barren and cannot have the children she desires. Faye feels she is terrible for Kai because she cannot give him children. She loves her husband so much, she is willing to leave him so he can have a real family. However, her husband refuses to leave and even demands, "You're coming with me, now. And I'm not letting you out of my sight until we're safely married" (van der Zee 35). Kai is extremely demanding, but lets his wife know he will never abandon her because she cannot bear children. His love for her is admirable and a model for all couples. All Faye desires is a loving family with her husband Kai. One woman who feels completely different than Faye is the mother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some things you could say about Faye is that she doesn't quit at anything and that she'll keep moving forward even when there's tough situations to make. One example, is she manages to re–home more than sixty dogs. Here are some things I've learned about Faye and some things that you can learn from me! When Faye started to volunteer at the shelter she decided to make a facebook page so people can adopt the dogs. Another example is that Faye always grooms the puppies and photographs them before she puts them on the facebook page. Therefore, Faye also posts the new dogs available each week for adoption on her facebook page. Every Time Faye volunteers at the shelter, the shelter receives 20 new dogs each week but some dogs still need re– homing. • 25. Film Analysis Of Chinatown By Roman Polanski Chinatown This week's movie is Chinatown by Roman Polanski. Some of the ways the directors shows this is through the dramatic terms of close up shots, pans, and crane shots. However, the conversation turns into why she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The script is done by an amateur that has no clue how to follow proper industry format rules. There is a clear cut inciting incident within the first five pages, but the audience is lost by page 15 because they don't have any idea who is the main character of the story. The story starts out fast and furious but fizzles out in the second act. The Script is 23 pages too long. Most of the description is written as a novel. Need to cut down on the description. Too much black blotches of text. Why should the Faye listen to the plight of her abductor during the whole film? She should try to get away and not listen to his sad story. Faye should use her sexuality to escape. There's no obstacles for the characters to overcome in this script. The set up to Faye's abduction needs more time to develop. Need to show that the taxi driver was following the girls. There is no time for the audience to catch up to the action. For example, the taxi driver needs to be watching Faye. The audience needs to sense danger to be able to participate in the moment. Faye is not crucial to the story. She should be cut from the script. She adds no cinematic or dramatic purpose to the story. The story can be told in present time and no need for flashbacks. There is a love story in this script. She and Rory would be separated on the field, because if both of them fell, there would no doubt be a struggle for the throne, and protracted war in Aber Hael. Since Carlton's brother had not been heard from in years on end, he was presumed dead, Audra had declared Vaughan to be the next king should she and her son die. Tod also painted Homer who started the mob scene at the theater. He was manipulated by Faye to be a person for her to toy with. Faye would use Homer for his money, his house, and at times his affection. Tod painted him with his big hands clawing the air in anguish. He did this because Homer could not express his feeling when he would ask. Tod saw Homer as a person who needed a friend because he was filled with problems. Audiences like me enjoy fantasy stories since we have an interest in the love connection to the characters. I prefer A Secret Sorrow because of fantasy, relatability, and love. In a secret sorrow, Kai and Faye show an example of a fantasy story. "His eyes held her locked in unrelenting demand "Why should I be disappointed?"" (Page 33, Paragraph 52) Kai presents like a prince that cares for Faye because these actions are not seen often in the real world. Most males do not act like him. Comparing the Narrative and Formal Devices of ChungKing Express and A Bout de Souffle Wong Kar Wai's movie 'ChungKing Express' bears many similarities to Godard's 'A Bout de Souffle'. To start with, Wai employs a number of cinematic techniques, obviously derived from the French New Wave, such as for example the jump–cut which is evidently taken from Godard's film. His use of the Godard–ian jump cut seamlessly blends temporally–exclusive scenes together, making the passage of time unnoticeable. Other Godard–ian touches include the many shots of clocks, which remind the viewer that despite the protagonist's fixation on the past, time continues to move on and that moments in the present are ... The primary function of the traditional Hong Kong film industry was to churn out movies aimed at the general public and make sure that they bring in a profit. This is much like the French film industry was before the emergence of the French New Wave. However Wai's 'ChungKing Express' was clearly not aimed at the masses, but rather only at the people who have developed a real understanding and appreciation for the art of film. Godard's 'A Bout de Souffle' was also a film which was made to rebel against the old style of French cinema and break the conventions of the film industry. In this way, both of the film directors have something in common with each other. Much of Wai's work has included themes of time passing and how every human emotion, every material object or specifically tinned food expires. This reoccurring matter isn't simply an accident but it carries a very significant political message. At the time that Wai made 'ChungKing Express', Hong Kong was pending to be handed over from the British democratic powers, to the Chinese communist government. Homer becomes an actor in Faye's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to the argument that Faye has with her father, the moment one person is unable to keep up the fantasy, no one is able to successfully participate, which more often than not, leads the participants to want to destroy what has deprived them of their escape. Faye, in this case, is the person who refuses to fully participate in the fantasy because "[s]he became bored with the life they were leading together and as her boredom deepened, she began to persecute him" (111). The issue here seems to be the fact that there is still an authenticity to Homer's actions and emotions, whereas Faye is incapable of feeling the same type of tenderness, or being candidly generous the way Homer can. As a result, she found his "servility was like that of a cringing, clumsy dog, who is always anticipating a blow, welcoming it even, and in a way that makes overwhelming the desire to strike him" (111). The anger that Faye feels leads her to be both verbally and physically abuse to Homer. While they are at dinner with Tod, Faye physically forces Homer to drink a cocktail by pouring the liquor into his mouth and holding "her hand over his lips so that he couldn't spit it back. Some of it came out of his nose," even though Homer has told her before that drinking makes him feel sick (112). Once he realizes that drinking may be the only thing that will appease Faye, Homer takes the next drink "but this time he took it and drank it himself fighting the stuff down" (113). He begins to act as though he enjoys it and does "his best to laugh with [Faye]" as the night goes on (114). But, it is too late. Faye is no longer fully participating in the fantasy with Homer, and when Tod witnesses the violence and malice that Faye is capable of, he forces Homer to confront reality as ... News reports about her Hollywood movies decreased, instead, according to an American gossip columnist visiting Europe during Wong's tenure, she was "acclaimed by nobility" in several European newspapers (Petersen, 2014). Severely limited by the noxious roles she was offered in Hollywood, which misrepresented Asian women, Wong left the United States for Europe (Vechten, 2003). She then spent two years in Germany, England and France, where she gained global attention and worldwide stardom. This special period in Wong's life was also a sensitive period for Chinese immigrants and all the ethnic actors and actresses in Hollywood, who barely made livings under ... In the year 1928 New York Time's Article titled "Berlin Praises Miss Wong: Her First Film Produced in Germany Acclaimed Premiere", the journalist wrote that: "Credit is given to China for the success achieved in the Alhambra Theatre last night by Anna May Wong of Hollywood in 'Song,' the first picture she screened here under the management of Richard Eichberg, independent German producer. (New York Times, 1928)" They thought that having Wong in the film was a chance for development and a chance to enlarge the area by involving characters of Asian, when in that time, not so many Asians were in Europe. Besides, Wong was truly a wise woman. She spoke fluent German in her first talkie, "The Road to Dishonor". The article claimed that "Four months ago she hardly knew a word of German. Today, they assure me, she speaks like a native. From the spluttering that goes on I feel certain this is true" (Shute, 1929). By doing everything herself, even the auditoriums, she finally bloomed her talents. Like a good horse finally find the right trainer, I regret her not having met these producer's sooner. Faye pointed a chubby finger to the thousands of stars twinkling in the sky. "Do you want the truth or the lie?" her mother asked back. This was something the mother and daughter did. Whenever Faye asked a question, her mother would tell her the truth, the lie, or both. "A lie and then the truth!" Faye shouted. "Okay," her mother smiled. A light breeze blew by and a shiver passed through Faye. Her mother scooted a little closer to share her warmth. "A long time ago, the Moon and the Sun were good friends," her mother began. ... Hikaru knew that the fight between the Sun and the Moon was silly but he couldn't disobey the Sun's orders. So Hikaru shot at the Moon and purposely missed." "Every evening before the Sun set, the Sun asked Hikaru to report his progress, and every evening Hikaru said the same thing, that the Moon had dodged all the arrows. The Sun would then give Hikaru more arrows to shoot." "This went on for a long time until finally; the Sun forgot what the argument was even about and the Sun ordered Hikaru to stop. The Sun and the Moon reconciled. The arrows Hikaru shot at the Moon are still visible today and they are called stars," her mother finished. "Why didn't the moon try to stop the Sun?" asked Faye, confused. "I don't know. Maybe the Moon was mad at the Sun too and didn't want to bother," her mother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Faye "could only love a handsome man and would only let a wealthy man love her" (67). Faye constantly disregards Todd's feelings for her, slowly crushing his dream life. Faye's insincere discernment of love is a prevalent example of Hollywood's degenerative impact upon those in search of materialistic success. Todd's failed efforts to gain the love of Faye Greener characterize his downfall and failure to aspire to his dreams and goals. While continuing to pay no attention to Todd, Faye Greener strives to become famous among the movie scene in Hollywood. Her beauty and allure are only surpassed by her rapaciousness and materialism. • 75. Mr Dollar Thesis Shortly before his death, Jesus feet were washed in an expensive perfume by one of his followers; a rare moment of excess in a life lived in humble means. For some of the people now leading congregations in his name though, that rare moment of excess has turned into a lifestyle. One famous example is the previously mentioned Rev. Creflo Dollar. The New York Times wrote in 2006, "Mr. Dollar, whose Rolls–Royces, private jets, million–dollar Atlanta home and $2.5 million Manhattan apartment, furnish proof to his followers of the validity of his teachings, is a leading apostle of what is known as the "prosperity gospel"" (Luo 1). It can be characterised as a wholesale commodification of religion, that is the selling–off of religious buildings, ideas and claims to authenticity in service to individual/ corporate profit and the promotion of a particular worldview and mode of life, namely corporate capitalism" (15). Carrette and King are making an important observation that religion has become a good that can be sold and traded through the idea that spirituality is a certain way of living. The "Prosperity Gospel" falls into this spirituality trap that Carrette and King address. The "ideas and claims" are seen when prosperity preachers tell their congregations that monetary donations will lead to an increase in personal wealth, and to better health. Meanwhile the "promotion of a particular worldview and mode of life" is apparent when prosperity preachers teach their followers that money and property are essential in God's plan for them, and it is a sign of their spirituality when they prosper. In addition, the "selling– off of religious buildings" can be found in the numerous mega–churches and multi–million dollar mansions that prosperity preachers inhabit. The wealth of these places sell the idea that fancy buildings are signs of a healthy spiritual lifestyle being lived in God's favor. Overall, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. The Day Of The Locust Analysis The Daphne is a type shrub that produces a sugary citrus scent that could fill up any room and even a whole garden. Blooming in February, it produces tiny clusters of white to pink flowers containing small berries. Sometimes called the romance plant, it is able to attract anyone that comes across it just by its appearance or scent. However, looks can be deceiving because this plant is extremely poisonous, containing toxins in all parts of the plant's body like the berries and leaves which if ingested could cause extreme pain, comatose or sudden death. Just like this small shrub, many of the characters in The Day of the Locust by Nathaniel West are not as they appear to be. West uses illusion as a central theme to set the basis of the events regarding the character's true identity within the novel. Each character being more different from the image they showcase than the last, they all play a role in the overarching dichotomy that is displayed throughout the novel. The Day of the Locust, mainly follows the lives of Tod Hackett, Faye Greene and Homer Simpson and the characters that intertwine with them. The novel first introduces Tod Hackett who has recently graduated and moved to Hollywood to become a costume designer. Tod judges the people around him and his surroundings with a critical eye which inspires him to start working on The Burning of Los Angeles. Then there's Faye Greener, who uses the men around her for her own personal gain. Her victims include Tod and another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
