Welcome to US 101: Introduction to University Studies
Hi and welcome to US/101. I would like to first introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth O’Connor, but I prefer to be called “Betsy.” Please feel free to call me by my first name. I am 42 years old.I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts (with a concentration in Photography) from University of Arizona in 1993I earned a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts (also with a concentration in Photography) from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1993I was fortunate to receive a teaching assistantship to graduate school so I taught classes to undergraduate photography students while I was a student myself.I continued teaching part time for VCU for three years after I received my graduate degreeI was offered a full time teaching position with Barton College in 1998 and taught for them for 7 ½ years. I enjoyed my time with Barton; however, my husband was offered a promotion with his company that required us to relocate from North Carolina to Florida. While I was with Barton College, I was asked to head the First Year Seminar program, which sought to help students transition from high school to college.I decided to use my time in Florida to be a stay-at-home mom, which I really loved.Once my youngest started Kindergarten, I got bored and decided to return to teaching.I have been teaching for University of Phoenix now for four years and just recently became a full time faculty member. I am excited to have more time to spend with students!
Here is a picture of my family and me from this past summer in Williamsburg, Virginia.
