This document discusses the music video for the song "Eez-eh" by the English rock band Kasabian. The video is abstract and performance-based, showing the band having fun and not taking themselves too seriously. It features various props and outfits to depict the abstract elements of their new album. The band aims to portray an edgy image through their black, white, and pink color scheme and styles.
2. This video is different to that of ‘Days are Forgotten’ as the video is both abstract and
performance based. By using the pink screen of the title of the album behind the band, it shows
how passionate about the album they are and that this is the main focus of the video. The
bands personality shines through this video as they incorporate various different props and
outfits throughout. This shows the abstract element of the video as most of the props don’t
relate to the lyrics as such, but show the fun element of the band and how they don’t take their
music and fame too seriously. The lyrics of the song imply they are singing to a woman as they
say ‘I aint eez-eh’. This shows how as a band they don’t stick the mainstream way of singing
songs to women etc but do it in a humorous way leaving out the cheesy elements. The band
again use a simple colour theme being white, black and pink. These are the colours of the
album and also represent the band as a whole, as they want to be percied as ‘black and white’
meaning they are real and not fake, and then the pink can be used to reflect the abstract
elements that are apparent throughout their new album. The band wears black and white
clothing which links in with this colour scheme. However, the lead singer Tom has his own
signature look being a smart black or white jacket with black trousers and white converse.
Serge(vocalist and guitarist) also has a signature look as he wears a t-shirt with the album title
on it and skinny black trousers.
LANGUAGE
3. Kasabian formed in Leicester in 1997. They are a rock band that are mostly
known in England. Their lead singer is Tom Meighan, and guitarist and singer
Sergio Pizzorno, as well as the other band members. They are signed to Sony,
RCA records and Columbia. In 2010 they won ‘Best Act In The World Today’ by
Q. Although Kasabian are typically known for not wanting to be perceived as
‘indie’, they are recognised as an indie rock band by many. There music has
varied throughout their 5 albums, as some has more of a rock sound and some
are more of an ‘indie’ sound. Their new album 48:13 has a new sound to it with
songs such as ‘bumbleebeee’ and ‘Eez-eh’. They are known for their specific
image especially on their latest tour for wearing black and white with a pink
background behind them. This represents how edgy the band are and how they
want to stand out.
INSTITUTION
4. Kasabian are quite an edgy rock band with specific styles and sounds. This is
made apparent in their music videos, especially in ‘Days are Forgotten’ as they
used animation to create the instruments. A typical feature in their music videos
is performance which shows how the band want to be perceived as different to
the mainstream pop artists. Drugs and alcohol are referred to in their songs a lot
which also explains why some of their videos appear to be showing strange alter-
realities almost and not true to life experiences. By mentioning drugs and alcohol
they are going against what is seen to be acceptable and conforming to the
expectations of the rock genre.
IDEOLOGY
5. The audience for this album may be different to that of previous Kasabian
albums as the style of the music has changed slightly, being this album is
relatively ‘dancy’. However, the album would still attract the usual niche audience
of indie rock. Typically, Kasabian’s videos are known to show performance in
them, which reflects the bands belief that it is all about the music and now fame
and the music industry. This gives the audience an insight into what they would
expect to see at a concert, so they would be more compelled to see the band live.
This paired with the abstract elements of the videos which show the band having
a good time would appeal to the younger teenage audience.
