2. Rain in Lithuania
• It often rains in Lithuania, especially in
autumn. Do you know that even the name
of our country (“Lietuva – Lithuania) is
originated from the word “lietus – rain”.
3. Bread
• Do you prefer white bread or, maybe, you
eat even black bread? Lithuanians choose
potatoes. These vegetables are the
second bread in our country.
4. A land of storks
• Would you like to have a baby? Ask for a
stork. In Lithuania babies are brought by
the storks.
• A white stork is a national bird of Lithuania. Our country has the highest
density of the white stork population in Europe.
5. A King of the mushrooms
• In Lithuania mushrooms have their own king. It is a
boletus.
In autumn one of the
Lithuanian favourite pastimes
is the mushroom gathering.
More than four hundred edible
varieties are found in the
forests. The most popular are
boletes, the kings of all
mushrooms.
6. Light up a candle
• All Saints’ Day (November 1st) and All Souls' Day
(November 2nd) are held in Lithuania.
• During these days people gather in cemeteries. They
pray, light up the candles on the graves of their dead
relatives and decorate the graves with flowers and
plants.
