2. Become a retailer. eBay has an access to hugest online marketplace in the world and is well placed to take an advantage of that by becoming a
retailer. The company has its IT and CRM systems in place already and could easily stake out a market share from Amazon and other online retailers.
3. Increase services portfolio through acquisition. The company has successfully acquired many companies to extend its services offering and should
continue adding new services through mergers and acquisitions.
4. Open more online stores in other countries. To sustain current growth levels, eBay could open its online marketplaces in other large and growing
economies in Asia and Europe.
Threats
1. Online security. PayPal stores online shoppers' personal information, such as bank account details, which is a target for online thefts. The more
online customers PayPal has, the more attractive as a target for identity thefts it becomes.
2. Regional low cost online retailers. Regional low cost online retailers could outrival eBay on faster and cheaper shipping, more localized product
offering and better knowledge about home market.
3. Increasing competition from Amazon. Amazon's online presence has significantly increased and now Amazon's marketplace is just behind eBay's.
4. Exchange rates. eBay receives a part of its income from foreign

The Top Five Online Auction Website
According to Top Ten Reviews, in 2016 the top five online auction sites are eBay, eBid, Webstore, Online Auction and ePier.
According to Baye, Price and Squalli, in an auction, potential buyers compete for the right to own a good, service, or, more generally, anything in
value. Auctions are used to sell a variety of things, including art, Treasury bills, furniture, real estate, oil leases, corporations, electricity and numerous
consumer goods at auction sites on the Internet. When the auctions take place, the seller interest is to ensure that they receive the highest price for their
item. As for the buyer, the main interest is the ability to purchase an item at a lowest cost possible.

The fees that eBay could apply to you will depend of the type of seller you are, the number of items you are selling per month, type if items and the
type of auction you choose to sell your items through.
Per month eBay offers 50–item listing free of charge after which it charges 30 cents per any additional listing. Additional charges apply if you would
like to make your listing standout with bold text, etc. Depending on the number of items that you would like to list on the monthly basis, e–Bay offers
a special subscription fee for "store subscribers" with fees ranging from $20–200$ per month. Supposedly this provides a better offer to those with a
big monthly number of listing.
Once you sell your item through eBay, this is where the platform will make additional money. eBay will charge 10% of any item sold (including the
final price the item was sold + shipping costs). So if you sold an item for $15 and your shipping costs come to $5, eBay will charge you 10% of the
final cost $20, and would receive $2 of your sale.
Selling Features
Being the biggest online market place out there with over 100m users, Ebay provides all the selling features you can think of. Some of those features
are:
Submit items to search engines – eBay will submit your items to most popular search engines to help gain exposure
Traffic report – eBay provides information on who your visitors are, time they spend on your page, what they

To attain this objective, eBay 's vision is to construct a framework that has four parts:
a. WHAT– Track a few thousand business measurements, gauge for 1 day in future (tomorrow) and if there is deviation in the middle of figure and

b. WHY – Determine causality, once a sign (deviation from figure) is recognize. They anticipate that the framework will robotize the procedure of

How Does Information Systems Enhance Business Strategy?
How does Information Systems enhance Business Strategy? Business Strategy Business Strategy is a hard concept to put into words. A clear
definition has been debated by many, yet some common aspects can be found. So a strategy could be explained as a chain of goal oriented decisions
that match an organizations skills and resources with the opportunities and threats in its environment. There are four main areas of the above
definition, 1.Should address organizations goals 2.'Involves what are we going to do' and 'how are we going to do it' decisions 3.Match organizations
resources and capabilities with the environment it operates in 4.These decisions are a pattern in that they are an ongoing process Business Strategy is
different from the company's mission and vision. Without clear answers to the above, the company might have an exciting vision and mission but there
won't be clear direction. It is clear from the definition that Business Strategy is not a short term plan but 5–10 year plan. Information Systems Many
organizations as a result of its day to day activities generate large amount of data. This data is just mere facts and has no order by itself. This is where
information systems come in. An information system could be defined as a computer system "that helps organize and analyze data. So, the purpose of
an information system is to turn raw data into useful information that can be used for decision making in an organization" (Jacobson). A typical

The Marketing Plan Of Ebay Essay
eBay was founded in Pierre Omidyar 's San Jose living room back in September 1995. It was from the start meant to be a marketplace for the sale of
goods and services for individuals.
In 1998, Pierre and his cofounder Jeff Skoll brought in Meg Whitman to sustain the success.
Meg had studied at the Harvard Business School and had learned the importance of branding at companies such as Hasbro.
Meg culled her senior staff from companies such as PepsiCo. and Disney, created an experienced management team with an average of 20 years of
business experience and built a strong vision for the company –– that eBay is a company that 's in the business of connecting people, not selling them
things.
They quickly shed the image of only auctioning collectibles and moved into an array of upscale markets where the average sale price (ASP) is higher.
ASP is a key metric in determining eBay 's transaction fees, so increasing the ASP became an important item. By forging partnerships with name
brands such as GM, Disney and Sun, eBay has managed to do exactly that. In addition to its auction–style sales, the website has since expanded to
include "Buy It Now" shopping; shopping by UPC , ISBN , or other kind of SKU ,online classified advertisements (via Kijiji or eBay Classifieds);
online event ticket trading (via StubHub ); and other services. It previously offered online money transfers through PayPal which was a wholly owned
subsidiary of eBay from 2002 until 2015. The

This must be considered a high margin, much bigger than Amazon.com's. However, unlike a production company, most of eBay's costs are not
variable costs but rather operating expenses. Contrary, Amazon.com's business model has a high degree of Cost of Sales and achieves a gross margin
of only 22.35% in 2010. The majority of costs are captured in the operating margin. eBay's operating margin is also much higher than that of
Amazon.com. The pattern repeats itself in the pre–tax margin. * Return on Invested Capital | eBay| Amazon| | 2007| 2008| 2009| 2010| 2009| 2010|

eBay should keep a close eye on threats to their company and do what they can to make them opportunities for change.
Conclusion By implementing their business model, eBay employed three main tactics. First, they looked to build strategic partnerships, such as PayPal
and Half.com. Second, they looked for customer feedback to constantly make changes and improvements. Finally, they monitored of their internal and
external environments for possible opportunities. By initiating all of these tactics, eBay is able to adapt to the changing ways while keeping their
customers satisfied. To be successful eBay must continue to mold and change their business model to satisfy customers and keep the level of quality
they employ to the highest degree possible. If eBay is able to work these ideas into their everyday business life, they will continue to be successful.
Furthermore, eBay must continue to improve its level of service, strengthen community trust and safety, increase system reliability, enhance website
features and functionality, and broaden the company's trading platform by growing existing product categories and promoting new product categories
in order to cope with competitive pressures and maintain its existing customers and attract new ones. Finally, they can expand their market to the
growing population of older generations by making their websites more attractive by catering to

Information system is analyzed as the parity. The reason is lack of a customer service hotline on eBayВґs websites. But on the other side they try to
meet needs their customer, e.g. facilitate payment system. eBayВґs executives do not adopt the management style to Chinese conditions. For the
majority of population was the only option to pay by cash, because of non–users of credit cards. Also there are problems with the system of auction,
because Chinese people like face to face purchases and they are used to deal the lowest price and in auction– selling format usually the prices went up.
These issues caused the evaluation of marketing and customer service as the parity. E–Bay had adopted various expansion strategies, both locally in the
US and globally in new international markets. It builds a brand image in the US as an industry leader and tries to expand to other foreign countries.
Additional temporary advantage related to the purchase protection because respondents extremely agreed that eBay did the best job in monitoring and
protecting its users from purchasing counterfeit items from its site.

competitive environment using the Porter's 5 forces and positioning in the industry using the BCG portfolio matrix. Following which, we will proceed
to identify the sustainable competitive advantages of eBay using the resource–based view of the firm. The core competence of eBay will also be

However, it should be noted that not all webhosting companies are able to host the colossal traffic required by eBay. In addition, eBay would
preferably choose a webhosting option that is reliable and offers round the clock customer service since people conduct business over eBay round the
clock.
Next, there is a moderate threat of substitute services. More and more offline companies are tapping on the vast potential of the online market through
the creation of their online retail sites. For example, if someone wants to get a Dell computer, he may choose to go to Dell's online store to purchase it.
However, the uniqueness of the online auction site is that almost everything under the sun can be listed for sale. If a person is looking to buy
something special, he can more often than not find it listed on eBay.
Lastly, there is a great intensity of rivalry among the competitors in the industry. Because of the potentially lucrative market in Asia, there are many
competitors wanting a slice of the pie and that includes search engine giant, Google. In China, Alibaba–owned Taobao is already providing intense
competition by providing zero listing costs and providing customer service catered to the needs of the local population[2]. In Korea, Gmarket is also
providing intense competition by continuously introducing new marketing initiatives such as the 'lucky lottery' where buyers may be able to purchase
an item for 10% of its retail

No matter how many precautions eBay takes computer hackers and thieves will find new ways to trick honest shoppers.
2. Increasing numbers of online trading sites and competitors : eBay already has many competitors including Amazon.com, Online shopping is
becoming more and more common. Stores such as Target and JC Penny have developed sites where people can shop from home. This poses a large
threat to eBay. It is now not only competing with other online auction sites but also online retailers.
Analysis of eBay's Strategies and business model
1. Business Level Strategy
Broad differentiation eBay competes in the online auction industry using a broad differentiation strategy. eBay may not be the most inexpensive online
auction site, they have the largest variety of products offered. They also appeal to a larger group of consumers that include individual sellers, small
entrepreneurs, and corporations all over the world. eBay achieves broad differentiation through their strong eBay community, a global reach not
matched by any competitor, and a category span of 27,000.
The main ways that eBay differentiates themselves is through:
a) Variety of products offered eBay boasts a category variety not matched by any competitor with over 27,000.
b) The eBay Community eBay wants their customers to feel like they are a part

Ecommerce is the next raising thing in the economic growth market. Thus those who have managed to stake out their niche business in the
ecommerce market are leaps and bounds above those who are now just starting to see the relevancy of this new market. As businesses and
organizations all look for ways to pull their bottom lines up. They are all looking at the ecommerce market place and are taking notice of the
ecommerce market leaders and seeing how they can emulate their success ("eBay, Annual Report 2011," 2012). During this case analysis of eBay
shopping spree, the following items will be covered:
1.Explain whether or not making so many acquisitions is a risky proposition.
2.Argue why eBay can successfully compete with its top three competitors.
3.Explain why eBay is the perfect model for the integration of all the aspects of e–commerce.
Explain whether or not you think making so many acquisitions is a risky proposition and why?
The acquisitions are risky but support the eBay overall open source commerce platform called X.commerce. Therefore, the acquisitions are warranted
as a calculated risk which enables merchants to more easily integrate online and offline commerce efforts (Laudon & Traver, 2012). Specifically, the
acquisitions of RedLaser and Milo allow eBay to build services to help sellers offer goods locally, both online or through a mobile device, providing
them with another channel for product distribution ("eBay, Annual Report 2011," 2012). RedLaser

Most rely on valuation heuristics involving P/E, PEG, and price–to–sales . The simplicity of using heuristic triggers dependence on valuation heuristics
as an alternative for the fundamental valuation. P/E, PEG, and price–to–sales need few variables and use simple formulas. Therefore , the estimates are
rather perceptive THUS subject to bias. The cause of these biases arise from weak assumption made towards P/E, PEG, and price–to–sales inputs.
Lastly, analysts face agency conflicts. They must maintain relations with the managers of the firms they cover. For this reason, they are prone to pick
valuation heuristics tactically, to reach the numbers that will satisfy managers. According to Hersh Shefrin, the solution to agency conflicts involves
the arrangement of incentives between principal and agent ; Behavioral phenomena need to be tackled using de– biasing methods. Brandt Cornell

eBay still has a dominant market share of online auction. His reputation is a sweeping force in maintaining his good performance. However, eBay has
to be cautious in every marketing decision. His mistakes will be taken advantage by these new comers. For example, www.bidville.com , an online
auction site, recently experienced a dramatic increase in new member registration after eBay announced they would raise their listing fees for sellers.
eBay took a prompt response by resuming the listing fee back to the original level. eBay didn't win anything in this price adjustment and readjustment,
but eroded his reputation. Essentially in this online auction market, whoever has the most name recognition, wins the game. Right now, Bidville's
disadvantage in name recognition puts Bidville out as a possible alternative to eBay's market space temporarily. eBay should think about more to
maintain his name recognition on the long run.
Patents eBay does not hold any key patented technology. A new entrant could easily emulate eBay's interface.
High cost of entry eBay's most effective barriers are its large network and credible reputation. It is rather difficult for a new entrant to build a new
network starting with no users. (We can verify this by how new air ticketing companies grow.) The only way to start a network from a reasonable size
is to derive an online auction market from an existing

Amazon and Ebay are two well–known brands of online shopping sites. They have evolved and grown from small firms to the giants of e–commerce
today. In this essay, a comparison would be made between the two firms.
Questioning the types of business models Amazon and Ebay's have employed and how they have evolved over time, the driving factors of change, and
finally the future outlook of each firm help distinguish the trails both firms made to become the two leaders in the market of ecommerce. They are
imperative in making a comparison between the two because despite being direct competitors in the same market, Amazon and Ebay's business models
are distinctly different. Both companies have altered business strategies over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Amazon intended to benefit from cross selling on the basis that it already has a loyal installed base in place. (Krishnamurthy, 2004) Amazon also
benefited from economies of scope as its basic infrastructure is already in place and highly scalable.
Three building blocks complement this: Amazon's feedback system, recommendation system and its buy/sell system. Its recommendation system
accounts for 35% of Amazon's sales as customers are more inclined to buy a product based on the strength of the reviews of other customers. It also
brought repeated purchasers that account for 66% of sales. (Salehnejad, 2012)
Also, Amazon has emphasized on building "several distribution centers around the world to hasten deliveries"(Hof and Himelstein, 1999). Coupled
with its software it provides a "laser–like focus on the buying experience"(IT Business Edge, 2012). Such a system and service is what draws customers
towards Amazon and subsequently retains them.
In 1999, Amazon became a merchant platform by introducing zShop, "a new service that allows anyone to sell merchandise through its website".
(Moore, 1999) It not only creates extra revenue from the $9.99 monthly subscription fee from sellers but also "60 cents per transaction for payments
made with 1–Click, as well as 4.75 percent of the final sale". (Moore, 1999)
The draw for small to medium business to subscribe to Amazon's zShops would be Amazon's huge customer

Re Expansion Of Ebay Into China
The re–expansion of eBay into China seems to be a viable probability and a part of the companies plan for the near future. In 2002, eBay established
a presence in china with the acquisition of leading auction site Eachnet to form eBay Eachnet. Up until 2005 eBay Eachnet was the leader of the
ecommerce market due to their C2C platform. However, with the emergence of Alibaba owned subsidiary Taobao.com (Taobao),eBay Eachnet soon
lost its stronghold on the market. This factor combined with a rigid Chinese ecommerce market drove eBay to withdraw business dealings in the
country in 2006.
Yet, the goal of a successful longstanding ecommerce venture has never been far from the companies plan. In 2013 the ecommerce giant announced

As interest in eBay and conducting business on the site began to grow eBay started applying a nominal fee for listing items on the site, and a
percentage of proceeds after sales had concluded.
Application of nominal fees on each transaction enabled Omidyar to garner revenue from his venture. In 1996 Omidyar appointed Jeff Skoll as
president of eBay. Skoll's first order of business as president of eBay was to grow the customer support team for e–bays market place and in 1997. This
entailed appointing people to eBay's customer service department to settle disputes, attract new customers and keep current customers happy. By
September of 1997 the company officially changed its name to the now well–known moniker eBay Inc. It was in this same year that eBay was
receiving one million page hits per week and at minimum 15,000 item listings per day. eBay, thereby had become one of the most visited sites on the
web.
With the company growing at an exponential rate Skoll and Omidyar knew that they needed to garner venture capital. So, in 1997, Omidyar and
Skoll approached the U.S venture capital firm Benchmark. They were able to broker a deal and Benchmark endowed eBay with $ 5 million with the
stipulation that Benchmark be given a 22 percent stake in the company. With the help of Benchmark Omidyar and Skoll were able to bring onboard
David Beirne and Robert Kagle to service operations, as well as Meg Whitman an MBA Harvard

Essay about Ebay analysis
The name "eBay" (http://www.ebay.com) is synonymous with "online auctions". Founded in September 1995, the company qualifies as a genuine
cultural and economic phenomenon (Bunnell, 2000, p.vii). The site can be credited with creating and defining an entire industry and has remained the
dominant force in the online auction world, with anywhere from 70 to 90 percent of the person–to–person online auction market. eBay is also the 15th
most visited site (http://www.MediaMetrix.com) on the web. In the face of large competitors such as eBay, internet powerhouse,Amazon.com Auctions

eBay, users are required to accept the terms on which eBay offers you access to their services as described in the 'User Agreement' (please find

Taobao's Success 2
Abstract
With the great speed of economic globalization, E–Business is developing in a surprising speed through the wide–spread of information technology.
Nowadays, there are a lot of big E–business corporations such as Amazon, E–bay focus on different E–business model and field. However when these
international companies carving up the global market, some local enterprises also growing up and want to share this big cake.

Until 2005, this
Taobao's Success 5 problem was solved by eBay–Each, but without doubt, eBay–Each lost its advantage in credit transaction.
Third, eBay–Each used advertisement blocking tactics to fight Taobao. In 2003, the biggest three portal in China (Sohu, Sina, 163) made a deal with
e–Bay that they would never use Taobao's advertisement. To fix this problem, Taobao use a lot of traditional medium such as newspaper, TV or
subway stops, bus, road advertising. Moreover, Taobao also made a co–operation with Yahoo, using Yahoo's search bid, investing 2 million keywords.
Then Taobao increased the keywords to 3 million, and the hits up to 6million in one day. That made Taobao beyond its opponent in two key indicators,
accounting for the initiative in future competition. Furthermore, another difference in Taobao's advertisements, their membership in the trading
process could feel lively culture of family. Fourth, eBay–Each and Taobao had a significant understianding gap in market positioning. EBay–Each have
their global strategy and want to do business with the people who are 30–40years old. While Taobao's strategy is localization, and its target population
was also younger than its counterpart. Last but not least, Taobao encouraged their buyer and seller makes private transaction, and supported a
convenient platform. One example is the communication tool for members in a timely manner – Live Messenger. If the user enters a shop, just the

eBay Structures Its Bid For Change
Problem Statement Adoption of an improper organizational structure design that is not flexible enough to the unstable and the rapidly changing
external environment in eBay's domestic and international markets.
Analysis and Evaluation
A functional organizational structure with various operational areas, such as finance, operations, human resources, and legal units was adopted for the
eBay during its establishment. In a functional structure, workers and activities are organized into areas of their expertise or units given specific
functions. Therefore, the structure promotes efficiency and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the exception of PayPal and Skype, the other companies joined the Marketplace category that offers eBay main Marketplace activities. The
Marketplace operation contributes the largest share of the revenues for eBay, followed by PayPal and Skype with the lowest revenues.
In such a multidivisional structure, there are separate and smaller divisions that perform varying functions. Every unit of the divisions is more focused
in a given area, which makes the structure have more ability to adapt to market changes than the functional structure. Nevertheless, this kind of
structure leads to duplication of management, administration, and staff activities, thus, there is inefficiency in the use of functional resources, higher
costs, and loss of economies of scale. The multidivisional structure that was introduced in eBay was services–centric because it was focused on the
kind of services provided in each division (Lee et al., 2015).
The changes that have occurred in eBay's organizational structure resulted in the current matrix structure. This is because the activities of the Company
are aligned along more than one line of authority that is also applying the divisional and functional chains of command. As it is explained in the case
study, each of the three divisional units has a president and its functional areas. This kind of structure

Where this online phenomenon has low entry barrier that attracts potential competitors, eBay's position in the dynamic market is definitely threatened.
Where consumers are more demanding and has access to latest information, eBay must stay focus and responsive to customers' needs and wants,
monitoring its business structure closely to ensure sustainability. 2) Over Diversification As mentioned, focus is crucial.John Donahoe made a mistake
by overly diversifying its resources and core business. A ‗strategic misfit' has occurred, such that eBay has never been able to meaningfully
integrate Skype, an online communications service, that failed to produce intended results of integrating eBay's core operations and its inability to
capture the synergy that justifies the acquisition. As a result, Skype's ownership was speculated to be transferred to either Microsoft or Google.
Difficulty in finding a long–term solution to increase growth in its core market during a global economic slowdown would eventually leads to a
dramatic erosion of eBay's core customer base and the company also faces deficiency of innovative capabilities. 3) Incompetency of CEO John
Donahoe's management capability has been judged as ‗a miserable debacle that is getting worst day by day' by one of his employees. A website
that allows employees to rate their CEO fell to 22%. Apparently, not even 1 in 3 eBay employees is happy with Donahoe's position in eBay as they

Porter's 5 Forces: Threat of Entry
Porter's 5 Forces
Threat of Entry
EBay's threat of entry is high. The business behind eBay is an Internet–driven industry. The main barriers surrounding this industry is the regulation
imposed by the government. The government will hold restrictions to some products that are sold in states or countries. EBay has implemented certain
restrictions, such as the Trust and Safety Department, that prevent transactions that could potentially threaten restrictions of fraud and consumer
protection. Although eBay does not sell any inventory directly to customers, the company is still held responsible for any misguided or unlawful
transactions. In this type of industry, safety and brand recognition are very important. EBay has a great job at excelling at their brand recognition. In
addition, the barriers to entry are low, however, creating the consumer population to back up such an industry is difficult.
Threat of Rivalry The threat of rivalry for eBay is moderate. The low barriers of entry create many ambitious competitors into this market. Yahoo
Auctions is becoming an intense competitor with eBay in the market. EBay is able to attract their customers by providing them with the best service at
the lowest price. One of the key aspects to appealing customers is brand identity. Customers always recognize Google, Amazon,Yahoo, and
Overstock.com, which is why these companies have become major competitors and threats to eBay. In addition, there are also low barriers to exit in the

Secondary Data Collection Analysis : Reasons Behind Amazon...
5.0 CHAPTER 2. SECONDARY DATA COLLECTION ANALYSIS
– REASONS BEHIND AMAZON'S AND EBAY'S SUCCESS:
5.1 Amazon's success:
One of America's greatest start–up success stories is Amazon. Jeff Bezos launched the website in 1995 and he is now having revenues of $61 billion.
At the start of e–commerce, Amazon was an innovator of delivering supreme customer service, which at that times was very rare. Amazon is an
illustration of massive organising skills, the company sells an enormous range of products, all day, every day, for 365 days a year and is able to
maintain over 80 warehousing and fulfilment centres.
When the dotcom bubble burst, the company Amazon was one of the few saved businesses. Within a year of the general collapse, Amazon declared...

The company understood the high importance of smooth and easy order process for their customers. Any obstacles could result in potential customers
not being able to purchase the product and eventually leaving the website, which would lead to Amazon not making profit.
2. Invent
In 2007, Jeff Bezos decided to 'attack' the online grocery delivery business by starting AmazonFresh. He started the business in the neighbourhoods of
Seattle and by 2012 had spread to other Seattle communities. From June 2013, AmazonFresh is available in some Los Angeles zip codes.
Amazon's founder confessed that Mick Mountz gets the merit for the success of AmazonFresh. Mr Mountz developed an inventive technology called
Kiva Systems.
''It consisted of huge Frisbee–shaped robots that could be steered via a grid of floor magnets. The robots picked up the warehouse rack containing the
item in the customer order and delivered it to the operator. He picked the item from the rack; scanned its barcode to verify that it was correct; and put
the item in a cardboard box with that customer's shipping label'' (Forbes, 2013)
In 2012, Amazon acquired Kiva for $775 million and uses it to help make AmazonFresh a success.
3. Be patient
The main characteristic of Jeff Bezos is that he does not expect to get it right the first time. He has learned that building a successful new business
does not come from one big idea but it rather takes a lot of time to

Business Opportunities, Challenges, And Trends Essay
4. Discuss the business opportunities, challenges, and trends prevailing in the Indian ecommerce market.
The business opportunity for eBay as of right now is not great although there is a lot of potential growth in the future. In 2014, the Indian ecommerce
industry showed a tremendous growth. This growth is driven by the rapid adoption of technology such as smartphones and tablets (ecommerce in India
– Accelerating growth, 2015). There are opportunities for eBay to expand its market and invest more in the future. But there are also their competitions
that they need to worry about. A company like Amazon is a well–known international online shopping superstore where you can buy almost everything.
There are Flipkart and Snapdeal that started their online store in India. eBay is losing its battle with their competition. For example, eBay Inc. pumped
in about `650 crore into the India business last year. In comparison, Flipkart raised about $1.4 billion from institutional investors in the last 13 months,
while Snapdeal mopped up $1.1 billion in about the same time. Amazon also announced in that the company will pump in $2 billion into India.
Amazon has infused `2,437 crore into its India arm. (live mint, 2016). Although eBay is not making as much revenue as they wanted the future
generation in India will become more online. The Indian youth will dominate the county 's 130Вmillion strong urban mass and it will drive the
consumer market growth over the next 5В10 years (The

Online Shopping And Mobile Transactions
INDUSTRY DEFINITION E–COMMERCE Today, consumers steadily use multiple devices for online shopping and mobile transactions rise steeply.
The e–commerce market has transformed the way businesses are managed, conducted and executed, locally or globally. Earlier with the Internet,
success in retail was said to be depending on location. But at present, the Internet is said to be a global marketplace, and have come up with even the
tiniest retailer a national – if not a global existence. The span of the e–commerce marketplace is tough to measure. The e–commerce market has
become such a dynamic part of the economy that is hard to identify precisely where e–commerce commences and the old world economy ends. The
e–commerce industry made a notable progress in 2014 with goods and services worth $1.5 trillion bought by consumers via desktops, tablets and
smartphones. That is why, most advertisers are now spending a cumulative part of their marketing resources on Internet promotion and marketing. The
world 's leading markets for e–commerce are led by the United States, China, and the United Kingdom. Across the world, the previous years carried a
continuous remarkable growth and progress of retail e–commerce all over the world. Revenues increased and had a raise more than 20% worldwide in
2014 to almost $840 billion, as online retailers are constantly expanding to new layouts and physical merchants move in to new markets through

The Pros And Cons Of Cyber Crime
Cyber crime is criminal activity done using computers and the Internet. This ranges from downloading illegal music files to offenses, such as creating
and distributing viruses on other computers or posting private business information on the Internet.
Perhaps the most outstanding form of cyber crime is identity theft, in which wrongdoers use the web to steal personal information from other users.
One of the most frequent ways this is done is through phishing. This method entices people to fake websites (that appear to be legitimate), where they
are asked to enter information about themselves. This includes inputting information, such as usernames and passwords, mobile numbers, addresses,
credit card numbers, and other information criminals can use to gain another person's identity. "Many people in developing countries are getting
attracted towards because of high unemployment and low wages". (Kshetri, 2010)
Another way this is done is through the use of viruses, There is a number of ways that you can get a virus on your computer while on the other side
someone is able to access all the data in your machine. One of the most common way on how this is done is when an attachment is sent to you on
email or any other social networking site and when you open it, your machine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

there who like to take advantage of unsuspecting people. Also sadly it is sometimes difficult to trace the person/s who is or are doing it. So it is smart
to protect yourself using anti–viruses and spyware. In developing countries they are not too keen on the laws broken unless it is a major cyber crime

Online Shopping As Viral And Thriving Within A Decade
2.0. Introduction:
The discovery of the Internet has completely transfigured man's lifestyle by cutting distance and making the world a small and reachable place to live
in. Information is made available with just a click of a button.
People have changed the way of shopping itself. Online shopping has become viral and thriving within a decade, making it one of the most competitive
markets in the current world (Atechnologysociety.co.uk, 2015).
The e–commerce market was worth 1.471 trillion dollars worldwide in 2014 and in forecasted to increase by 20% in 2015 (Emarketer.com, 2015).

EBay is an American multinational firm that offers consumer–to–consumer and business–to–consumer sales services through the Internet. It was
founded in 1995 by Pierre Omidyar and is headquartered in California, USA (Ebayinc.com, 2015). The company started with online auctions and
then grew into a shopping website where buying and selling takes place between the general public and businesses. EBay has had several
acquisition successes. In 2000 eBay bought Half.com, an online site for sales of books, music, movies and games. In 2007 it acquired StubHub, a
provider of online services for sellers and buyers of various types of tickets such as concerts, sports, live shows etc. (StubHub, 2015). In 2005
eBay acquired Skype, a telecommunication application, which was later acquired by Microsoft in 2011 for 8.5 billion dollars giving the company
a great monetary boost. In 2002 PayPal, a digital wallet for online transfer of money, was made a whole subsidiary of eBay. This was one of the best
acquisitions as PayPal's functionalities were merged with eBay's platform providing the online shopping process easier, faster and safer
(Investor.ebayinc.com, 2015). PayPal is available for users in 38 different countries giving eBay a greater advantage over its competitors in terms of
ease in payment options (Investor.ebayinc.com, 2015).

that actually turns a profit, and managed to outlast the "dotcom crash". By remaining flexible and adaptable, the ever–changing eBay has developed a

While migration from a single server to a storage area network and some performance enhancements improved the situation, there was still much
room for improvement. Modifications over time (feature enhancements, emergency bug fixes, etc.) were making the application difficult to manage.
One particular program contained 3.3 million lines of code [8]. This made debugging and finding problem source code extremely difficult.
Engineers and architects were spending the majority of their time fixing problems and keeping the site alive with little or no time to proactively
develop architectural strategy. If eBay wanted to successfully expand to meet the needs of its growing customer base and new business models, it had
to incorporate a new architecture while simultaneously keeping the present architecture running smoothly. This would require a focused and
ambitious effort. EBAY TOOLS AND COMPONENTS eBay created a developer program for businesses and individuals, for modest user fees, to
incorporate "eBay" technology and functionality in to their personal or business applications using eBay components. And even though the
architecture adheres to the principles of J2EE, the technology is available to practically any platform. The eBay API, which is the primary
component, is a collection of database calls that will return results in a consistent XML based format. This allows for developers to easily incorporate

It suggests that being on the strong financial position can be the key factor of success. eBay's financial performance resulted a 2 percentage increase

Programs are easier to write than papers for some of us students, myself included. I feel as though with the future comes change – that change is that
we, the students, should have the option to develop an in depth program (solely) instead of an antiquated, tautological, and outmoded paper for our
classes. Some of us have more advanced programming skills and would like a chance to use them instead of our weaker research and documentation
skills. There is no enjoyment on researching topics like this for me, I loathed every second of research and production of this paper. Research on how
code works and what to do with that code, the algorithms and routines that you can do with it is very stimulating for me. Please, feel my effusive abhor
while you read.
Abstract

Pierre Omidyar, a French entrepreneur, was just 28 when he sat down over a long holiday weekend to write the original computer code for what
eventually became an Internet megabrand. The brand has grown tremendously over the decade or so since its conception. The company exploits the
benefits of Customer Relationship Management (CRM). Buyers and sellers register with the company and data is collected by eBay on individuals.
This is the Business–to– Consumer (B2C) side of their business. However the strong customer relationships are founded on a Consumer–to–Consumer
(C2C) business model, where strong interrelationships occurs, for example where buyers and sellers leave feedback for each other, and whereby
awards are given to the most genuine of eBayers. The term 'eBay' has become a generic term for online auctions. Other companies with such a
strong position include Hoover for vacuum cleaners, and Google for search engines. Today it is common to hear that someone is 'ebaying' or is an
'eBayer,' or that someone is going 'to eBay.' Weaknesses of eBay were as below, The organizations work tremendously hard to overcome fraud.

Alipay's core service is an escrow service which solves the concerns related to settlement risk between buyer and seller. In this system, after a buyer
commits himself/herself to an online transaction, his/her payment is held in an Alipay account until he receives the product ordered. After the product
is received the buyer notifies Alipay and the payment is then forwarded on to the seller. As of December 2006, Alipay had 33 million registered users.
(Source: "Alipay – 33 Million Registered Users," www.imnewswatch.com, February 5, 2007) PayPal was a leading online payment company
purchased by eBay in mid–2002. In June 2007, PayPal had 143 million user accounts across the world. Through PayPal, individuals and businesses
could send or receive money over the Internet. PayPal supported payments in US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, Australian Dollars, Euros, Pounds
Sterling, and Japanese Yen. Buyers could also pay for their online purchases on various e–commerce websites and auction sites like eBay using the
balance in their PayPal account. Though this mode of transaction was quick, there were also a number of complaints from disgruntled PayPal
users. Most of the complaints were related to the dispute resolution procedures of PayPal. In eBay China, transaction fees used to be charged as a
percentage of the value of completed sales. This ranged from RMB 10 for a sale worth RMB 500 to RMB 115 for one worth RMB 20,000 (Source:

Become a retailer. eBay has an access to hugest online marketplace in the world and is well placed to take an advantage of that by becoming a retailer. The company has its IT and CRM systems in place already and could easily stake out a market share from Amazon and other online retailers. 3. Increase services portfolio through acquisition. The company has successfully acquired many companies to extend its services offering and should continue adding new services through mergers and acquisitions. 4. Open more online stores in other countries. To sustain current growth levels, eBay could open its online marketplaces in other large and growing economies in Asia and Europe. Threats 1. Online security. PayPal stores online shoppers' personal information, such as bank account details, which is a target for online thefts. • 2. The Top Five Online Auction Website According to Top Ten Reviews, in 2016 the top five online auction sites are eBay, eBid, Webstore, Online Auction and ePier. According to Baye, Price and Squalli, in an auction, potential buyers compete for the right to own a good, service, or, more generally, anything in value. Auctions are used to sell a variety of things, including art, Treasury bills, furniture, real estate, oil leases, corporations, electricity and numerous consumer goods at auction sites on the Internet. The fees that eBay could apply to you will depend of the type of seller you are, the number of items you are selling per month, type if items and the type of auction you choose to sell your items through. Per month eBay offers 50–item listing free of charge after which it charges 30 cents per any additional listing. Additional charges apply if you would like to make your listing standout with bold text, etc. Depending on the number of items that you would like to list on the monthly basis, e–Bay offers a special subscription fee for "store subscribers" with fees ranging from $20–200$ per month. Supposedly this provides a better offer to those with a big monthly number of listing. Once you sell your item through eBay, this is where the platform will make additional money. eBay will charge 10% of any item sold (including the final price the item was sold + shipping costs). So if you sold an item for $15 and your shipping costs come to $5, eBay will charge you 10% of the final cost $20, and would receive $2 of your sale. • 5. How Does Information Systems Enhance Business Strategy? How does Information Systems enhance Business Strategy? Business Strategy Business Strategy is a hard concept to put into words. A clear definition has been debated by many, yet some common aspects can be found. So a strategy could be explained as a chain of goal oriented decisions that match an organizations skills and resources with the opportunities and threats in its environment. There are four main areas of the above definition, 1.Should address organizations goals 2.'Involves what are we going to do' and 'how are we going to do it' decisions 3.Match organizations resources and capabilities with the environment it operates in 4.These decisions are a pattern in that they are an ongoing process Business Strategy is different from the company's mission and vision. Without clear answers to the above, the company might have an exciting vision and mission but there won't be clear direction. It is clear from the definition that Business Strategy is not a short term plan but 5–10 year plan. Information Systems Many organizations as a result of its day to day activities generate large amount of data. This data is just mere facts and has no order by itself. This is where information systems come in. An information system could be defined as a computer system "that helps organize and analyze data. • 6. The Marketing Plan Of Ebay Essay eBay was founded in Pierre Omidyar 's San Jose living room back in September 1995. It was from the start meant to be a marketplace for the sale of goods and services for individuals. In 1998, Pierre and his cofounder Jeff Skoll brought in Meg Whitman to sustain the success. Meg had studied at the Harvard Business School and had learned the importance of branding at companies such as Hasbro. Meg culled her senior staff from companies such as PepsiCo. and Disney, created an experienced management team with an average of 20 years of business experience and built a strong vision for the company –– that eBay is a company that 's in the business of connecting people, not selling them things. They quickly shed the image of only auctioning collectibles and moved into an array of upscale markets where the average sale price (ASP) is higher. ASP is a key metric in determining eBay 's transaction fees, so increasing the ASP became an important item. By forging partnerships with name brands such as GM, Disney and Sun, eBay has managed to do exactly that. In addition to its auction–style sales, the website has since expanded to include "Buy It Now" shopping; shopping by UPC , ISBN , or other kind of SKU ,online classified advertisements (via Kijiji or eBay Classifieds); online event ticket trading (via StubHub ); and other services. It previously offered online money transfers through PayPal which was a wholly owned subsidiary of eBay from 2002 until 2015. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 2002, eBay established a presence in china with the acquisition of leading auction site Eachnet to form eBay Eachnet. Up until 2005 eBay Eachnet was the leader of the ecommerce market due to their C2C platform. However, with the emergence of Alibaba owned subsidiary Taobao.com (Taobao),eBay Eachnet soon lost its stronghold on the market. Skoll's first order of business as president of eBay was to grow the customer support team for e–bays market place and in 1997. This entailed appointing people to eBay's customer service department to settle disputes, attract new customers and keep current customers happy. By September of 1997 the company officially changed its name to the now well–known moniker eBay Inc. It was in this same year that eBay was receiving one million page hits per week and at minimum 15,000 item listings per day. eBay, thereby had become one of the most visited sites on the web. Every unit of the divisions is more focused in a given area, which makes the structure have more ability to adapt to market changes than the functional structure. Nevertheless, this kind of structure leads to duplication of management, administration, and staff activities, thus, there is inefficiency in the use of functional resources, higher costs, and loss of economies of scale. The multidivisional structure that was introduced in eBay was services–centric because it was focused on the kind of services provided in each division (Lee et al., 2015). The main barriers surrounding this industry is the regulation imposed by the government. The government will hold restrictions to some products that are sold in states or countries. EBay has implemented certain restrictions, such as the Trust and Safety Department, that prevent transactions that could potentially threaten restrictions of fraud and consumer protection. Although eBay does not sell any inventory directly to customers, the company is still held responsible for any misguided or unlawful transactions. In this type of industry, safety and brand recognition are very important. EBay has a great job at excelling at their brand recognition. In addition, the barriers to entry are low, however, creating the consumer population to back up such an industry is difficult. Threat of Rivalry The threat of rivalry for eBay is moderate. The low barriers of entry create many ambitious competitors into this market. Yahoo Auctions is becoming an intense competitor with eBay in the market. EBay is able to attract their customers by providing them with the best service at the lowest price. One of the key aspects to appealing customers is brand identity. • 36. Business Opportunities, Challenges, And Trends Essay 4. Discuss the business opportunities, challenges, and trends prevailing in the Indian ecommerce market. The business opportunity for eBay as of right now is not great although there is a lot of potential growth in the future. In 2014, the Indian ecommerce industry showed a tremendous growth. This growth is driven by the rapid adoption of technology such as smartphones and tablets (ecommerce in India – Accelerating growth, 2015). There are opportunities for eBay to expand its market and invest more in the future. But there are also their competitions that they need to worry about. A company like Amazon is a well–known international online shopping superstore where you can buy almost everything. There are Flipkart and Snapdeal that started their online store in India. eBay is losing its battle with their competition. For example, eBay Inc. pumped in about `650 crore into the India business last year. In comparison, Flipkart raised about $1.4 billion from institutional investors in the last 13 months, while Snapdeal mopped up $1.1 billion in about the same time. Amazon also announced in that the company will pump in $2 billion into India. Amazon has infused `2,437 crore into its India arm. (live mint, 2016).
