I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, 80% of the students are expected to :
a. Define the terminologies involve in algebraic expressions.
b. Demonstrate understanding about the terminologies used in the topic.
c. Translate real life verbal expressions into letters or symbols and vice
versa.
d. Participate actively in the activities performed during class discussion.
e. Make use of algebraic expressions in real life situations by sustaining
interest in the topic.
f. Evaluate student’s performance.

Concepts:
According to Wikipedia, an Algebraic Expression is an
expression built up from integer constants, variables, and the algebraic
operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and
exponentiation by an exponent that is a rational number). For example, 3x2
– 2xy c is an algebraic expression.
A rational algebraic expression is an algebraic expression that
can be written as a quotient of polynomials, such as x2+4x+4. An irrational
algebraic expression is one that is not rational such as 𝒙 + 𝟒.

 Study the table and try to answer the question asked.
 Then translate the real life verbal expression into algebraic expression.

 A variable is any letter or symbol that represents a number.
 A constant has a fixed value that does not change.
 An algebraic expression is a mathematical phrase that uses variables,
numerals and operation symbols.

Directions for the activities:
 Group the class .
 Choose the officers for the activity.
 The teams will be given worksheets that they should follow.
 They need to make sure that the basic elements of Cooperative
Learning is present in the activity.
 The teams will be given 20 minutes to discuss the problem and come
up with the answer s and 10 minutes each in presenting their answer.

WARM UP ACTIVITY
Ask:
 What is algebraic expression?
 What is the use of algebraic expression in your day to day life?
 Imagine a fare for the first 4 km is P8.00 and an additional P1.00 for
every kilometer. Richie will go to Cubao from Antipolo and the distance
is about 28 km. How much does she need to pay?

WARM UP ACTIVITY
 Group the class into two. From the given problem, each will be
presented with the answers but they need to make sure they will
choose the correct ones. They need to choose wisely.
 After discussing their answer, each will present and will be given
evaluation forms to rate their performances.
 Their answer may be posted in the board for the class to see.

III. Procedure:
ACTIVITY 1
 Group the class into three.
 The students will then arrange their chairs and face their classmates.
 The teams will be given worksheets to be answered.
 A recorder will write the team’s answer.
 And a reporter will report it after they’re done.

 Group the class into four.
 Ask a representative for each team to be in the expert group.
 The expert group will then discuss the topic including the answers of
the problem.
 And then the expert members will go back to their respective group to
discuss the answer with their teammates.
 After the discussion, the reporter will then present the team’s answer to
the class.

Generalization:
Algebraic Expression is a mathematical phrase that uses
variables, numerals, and operation symbols. A numerical expression is an
expression that combines numbers and one or more operation symbols. A
variable is any letter or symbol that represents a number. A constant has a
fixed value that does not change.
Algebraic Expression is basically used in all facets of life. It can
be used in getting the price of our shirts, the payments from our jeepney
fares or our body weights in kilograms. Word phrases and algebraic
expressions are necessary to solve those real life situations we encounter
everyday. To translate word phrases into algebraic expression, familiarity
with words and phrases associated with symbols or operations are
important.

IV. Evaluation:
Romar is twice as old as Mavic. If Mavic is q years old,
Jaypee is 2 years older than Romar.
a. If Mavic is q years old, how old is Romar algebraically?
b. Express Jayvee's age algebraically.
c. Write an expression for the sum of Romar and Mavic
ages.

Subject Matter: Concepts: According to Wikipedia, an Algebraic Expression is an expression built up from integer constants, variables, and the algebraic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and exponentiation by an exponent that is a rational number). For example, 3x2 – 2xy c is an algebraic expression. A rational algebraic expression is an algebraic expression that can be written as a quotient of polynomials, such as x2+4x+4. An irrational algebraic expression is one that is not rational such as 𝒙 + 𝟒.

Procedure: Directions for the activities:  Group the class .  Choose the officers for the activity.  The teams will be given worksheets that they should follow.  They need to make sure that the basic elements of Cooperative Learning is present in the activity.  The teams will be given 20 minutes to discuss the problem and come up with the answer s and 10 minutes each in presenting their answer.

From the given problem, each will be presented with the answers but they need to make sure they will choose the correct ones. They need to choose wisely.  After discussing their answer, each will present and will be given evaluation forms to rate their performances.  Their answer may be posted in the board for the class to see.

Procedure: ACTIVITY 1  Group the class into three.  The students will then arrange their chairs and face their classmates.  The teams will be given worksheets to be answered.  A recorder will write the team’s answer.  And a reporter will report it after they’re done.

Procedure: ACTIVITY 2  Group the class into four.  Ask a representative for each team to be in the expert group.  The expert group will then discuss the topic including the answers of the problem.  And then the expert members will go back to their respective group to discuss the answer with their teammates.  After the discussion, the reporter will then present the team’s answer to the class.

A constant has a fixed value that does not change. Algebraic Expression is basically used in all facets of life. It can be used in getting the price of our shirts, the payments from our jeepney fares or our body weights in kilograms. Word phrases and algebraic expressions are necessary to solve those real life situations we encounter everyday. To translate word phrases into algebraic expression, familiarity with words and phrases associated with symbols or operations are important.
