Brief History Of Field Hockey
Introduction: A Brief History
Field hockey's origins can be traced back 4000 years to ancient Egypt, Greece and Persia, although the game, as we have all come to know it, was
developed in Britain in the late 19th century (Longstreth, 2014) . It is said to be the oldest team sport in history (Girasole, 2010) . Field Hockey's
original name was the "ball and stick" game. Hockey was initially played with a cube, instead of the ball we use today. Hockey was initially
considered to be too dangerous for women, but it became socially accepted when women were allowed to play sports such as lawn tennis and
croquette (Girasole, 2010). The first Women's field hockey team was formed in 1887 in England. Hockey made its debut in the Olympics in 1908 and
thus the International Hockey Federation was assembled (Girasole, 2010). Today, field hockey is the second largest team sport in the world, played in
over 100 countries (McBryde, 2013).

These different responses can be a result of genetics, body size and shape, chronic conditions, past experience, injuries, gender and so forth. For
example, the training program for a women's hockey team will be different to the training program for a men's hockey team. This would be due to
factors such as men having higher testosterone levels, allowing them to build muscle mass faster, and men having lower flexibility, the men would
thus have to do more flexibility exercises in order to abstain from injury. Another example would be that the links would have a different training
program to the goalkeeper. The links would have a greater emphasis on fitness and speed, while the goalkeeper would have more of an emphasis on
flexibility and skill, although fitness would also be a large aspect. It is imperative that a goalkeeper knows how to save a goal and is able to do so
without injuring

The Biomechanics Of A Skiing
For this research assignment, the topic I would like to discuss is the biomechanics of a skiing. Skiing is one type of sports that has begun to increase
in popularity. Athletes are always trying to discover ways to get stronger, faster, and higher with minimal injuries. Improving our biomechanics is one
important way of improving your athletic performance, and limit injuries. However, there are many pros and cons within the biomechanics of skiing. I
would like to learn more about leg alignment and form and how these can affect the skier. Abnormalities of the leg and lower–leg alignment are
important factors while skiing. To be an efficient skier it requires a balanced movement. My methods of data collection to analyze my subject 's skill
movement will consist of a multi–methods approach. This approach includes a mixture of literature reviews, observational review through video
analysis, and interviews with the athlete. These data collection methods will help me in my project by allowing me to strategically point out
differences in angular placement and posture, along with speed variations due to changes in position. I will be able to compare a professional style
of skiing with that of a novice skier and point out the differences in positioning between an experienced skier and a novice skier. I will limit research
information to scholarly and reputable sources only. Once of the sources I will reference comes from a research article called Clinical Biomechanics of
Skiing.

The Golden Basketball Necklace : The Golden Basketball Game
The Golden Basketball Necklace Running into the gym with my team, knowing it was my last middle school basketball game, but the first
championship game I felt elated and truly blessed. My knees quivered with anticipation after seeing all the bleachers filled with people. After realizing
even the press and other media was in attendance I grasped the moment like a newly elected president at his inauguration. I am warming up doing
basketball drills, when I began to look at the flags on the gym wall depicting the history of the basketball team. The years and dates of the last
championship game, Historically a championship game had not been won since 2007 . The more I stared at the flags, the more it made me want to
win this game and make history in this gym. As the crowd and cheerleaders start to chant, cheer and get loud, I started to feel more comfortable
and rowdy more than I had ever felt in any other game that I've played. Waiting for the referee to blow the whistle for jump ball to start. I felt my
fingertips tapping the side of my leg, which for some reason gives me a sign to me that I am pumped up and ready to play! As the referee blew the
whistle, it was game time! My teammate was on her tip toes already in motion to jump, she jumped and smacked the ball before the other opponent
could even get a chance to jump! The ball came my way and I dribbled the ball three times, crossed doubled between my legs two times, I lingered up,

Benefits Of Team Sports
Many people love to praise victory on the playing field, cheer for their favorite team and play sports. However, is there more to sports than just
fitness? Is playing a team sport actually good for us as we make it seem or is it just a fun way to pass the time? Actually, participating in any team
sport has a positive effect on many areas of life. Some are well known and others may surprise you. We all know that playing any kind of sport
comes with physical benefits like strengthening the body, developing coordination, and promoting physical fitness, but is that all that the player
gains? First of all, it is well accepted that exercise is good for our bodies and minds. Exercising gives us stronger bones, clears out cholesterol from
out arteries, and decreases the risk of stroke, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Does that mean we get much benefit of going to the gym five days
a week as we would by joining a team and competing? Here is where it gets interesting; studies show that if you find a sport and a team you like
you will gain all sorts of benefits that go beyond the physical and mental of exercise alone. Literature review: What is a team?: A team is a group of
players forming one side in a competitive game or sport. An individual cannot perform all tasks on his/her own. Team... Show more content on

sports are numerous. Exercise in general controls weight by burning calories, improves the functioning of the cardiovascular system, placing a lower
strain on the heart, and increases an athlete's energy level while improving the quality of sleep." When people are occupied with playing the game they
often forget that they are indeed becoming more and fitter. This gives them an advantage because they aren't doing the same exact workout over and

Performance Analysis : The International Basketball...
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW 2.0 Previous research
The majority of previous research pertaining to performance analysis in basketball has been focused on the quantitative analysis of game–related
statistics, commonly found in a basketball box–score (Sampaio et al., 2006). These game–related statistics include: field goal attempts, field goals
made, field goal percentage, 3–point field goal attempts, 3–point field goals made, 3–point field goal percentage, free throws attempted, free throws
made, free throw percentage, defensive rebounds, offensive rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers and personal fouls.
The practical value of performance analysis is that well–chosen performance indicators allow good and bad techniques or team performances to be
highlighted (Hughes & Franks, 2008). Trinic et al. (2002) analysed the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) official performance indicators with
the goal of identifying parameters that differentiated between winning and losing teams which played in the final tournaments of the European club
championships from 1992 to 2000. Discriminant function structure coefficients (SC) from discriminant analysis exposed that defensive rebounds (SC
= 0.42), field goal percentage (3–point field goals made SC = 0.24, 3–point field goals missed SC = –0.30, 2–point field goals made SC = 0.14 and
2–point field goals missed SC = –0.26), and free throw percentage (SC = 0.26) had the highest discriminative power respectively.

Moving To A Small Town Research Paper
For me the move to Charlotte was a big improvement from my hometown. Yes the move does have its downside but when comparing the overall
positives to the negatives, the good outweighs the bad. Coming from me that is major because when my mother first told me and my sister that we
were moving I was not the happiest camper. The thought of moving from the country side to the city, did not excite me at all.
My home town is none other than small town Greenwood located in South Carolina. Greenwood is a very small town population 69,520. A town so
small that everyone seemed to know everyone, this was my least favorite thing about living there. But the peace and quiet and green scenery
outweighed it. Don't get me wrong the fact that everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of racket. Living the country side allowed you have your own personal space, not having another family that lived so close to you that you felt
they were in your own yard. There was so much land around my home I could enjoy things like having a full court to shoot hoops on, enjoy things
like riding go carts, four wheelers, and dirt bikes. Not only did I enjoy have all that space, but so did my dog Snoopy, he was able to roam freely and
mark his territory where ever he pleased. Not only did I have the comfort of the low crime rate and the comfort of having space, your own getaway

The Peach Basket Game: Basketball: The Game Of Basketball
Basketball was invented by Dr. Naismith. (He looks like teddy Roosevelt) Dr. Naismith, with all of his imaginative planning, could not have
imaged his Peach Basket game would turn into my favorite indoor sport. Originally, there was no set rule on the number of players. The idea was
that the game could be played by any number of players at one time. However that never worked, so they changed the rule from any number of
players to 9. But In 1897 they changed it to five because nine was too many players. Originally, the game was played with peach baskets or 18
square boxes hung from the balconies of the running tracks of most indoor places. So every time someone would make a basket someone would half
to get a ladder to get the ball back.
At this time the basket height was established at 10 feet which is the same height to this day. Back to the baskets it took forever to get the ball out of
the baskets then, a year later, in 1893 cast iron rims were used as nets. Backboards were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1904 that boundaries became lines. The first out of bounds situations turned out to be disastrous. Ball possession was awarded to the first person
who touch the ball after it went out of bounds. This rule ended up in players fouling left and right.
It got even worse when the ball went in the belchers people would run from the ball. Basketball was once called the cage game. Although the use of
cages were abandoned in 1933 the name cagers is used to day. They had put chicken wire around the entire court. But it was also used so no one
could through stuff in to the court. The half court line was made in 1932 to stop stalling. Before the half court line was made the other team would
have the entire court to them self's. Adding the half court line made it easier for the other team. The FIBA and NBA modified and lowered the 10
second to 8 seconds in 2000. College women's rules do not have a 10 second

Lindeman And Lazaro Gamio: NBA Team Analysis
This visualization was published by Todd Lindeman and Lazaro Gamio on 2014. It is an analysis on the performance of the team members of the
Wizards team from the NBA.
The visualization has the purpose of detecting the distances between the player and the hoop where the most efficient shots where taken.
The content includes the distances of all the shots taken by the team, and different data per team member such as type of shots, shots missed, shot
made, and a basketball court zone where the player has performed better than anyone in the league, worst, or the same.
The structure of he data is easy to read as they use colors, patterns and size to distinguish different information.
The main element is the visualization of the shots. The shots are formed by arcs that go from the hoop to the distance where the player took the shot. ...

Passer To Play Volleyball
A new sport was invented by William Morgan in 1895. "Morgan was an instructor at a YMCA and blended elements of basketball, baseball, tennis,
and handball to create this new sport." (Evdokimoff 2011) Since the ball was "volleyed" over a net, it soon became known as volleyball. According to
Evdokimoff, the first official game was played at Massachusetts College in 1896. Volleyball is considered an easy sport to those who have never
played; however, it involves many skills, much determination, and constant communication. On the offensive end, passing is the first thing that must
be done.
In order for the setter to set the ball, the passer must make a good pass. The passer has to judge whether or not the serve or the hit is in or out. Next,
a passer will move his or her body behind the ball. While staying low, the passer then turns his or her shoulders towards the target, the setter. It... Show

The hitter's first job is to try to block the opposing team's attack. Then the hitter must get off the net and be ready for the set. If the ball does not
come, the hitter must cover the person who is hitting. In an attacking situation, the hitter must jump, make contact with the ball at its highest peak,
and snap the wrist. In volleyball, all players have a specific job, but must rely on each other to get individual jobs done. Communication is the
biggest key to a good volleyball team. First, a passer must call the ball if able to make the pass. If players do not talk and claim the ball, it may hit
the floor. Also, the setter has to tell his or her teammates if he or she can get to the second hit. Finally, everyone who is not hitting should talk to the
hitter. It is imperative to share where to place the hit, if tipping is a better option, and how many blockers there are. Miscommunication could cost the
team a point or even the game. The game of volleyball is all about working as a team and

Who Is Dr. James Naismith: A Very Brief History Of Basketball
Dr. James Naismith was given a task to come up with a game to play inside the gym during winter at the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA)
in Springfield, Massachusetts (Pruter, Robert, editor. "Basketball." Basketball, The Electronic Encyclopedia of Chicago, 1 Jan. 2005). This is how the
game of basketball was invented in 1891. The goal in this new game was to put the soccer ball in the opposing teams peach basket ten feet in the air.
Every time a team scored they had to stop the game and climb a latter and retrieve the ball from the peach basket. Basketball has changed so much
since 1891. The game of basketball started with thirteen rules and nine players on each team. Today there are five players from each team on the court,

Once a player reaches the foul limit (6 fouls), they are not allowed to play the rest of the game. In 1920 a player could only re–enter the game once,
This changed in 1934 which allowed them to re–enter twice, however in 1945, they made to where a player could re–enter the game a unlimited
amount of times. 1950 marked a special year in the NBA season because it was the season when Earl Lloyd became the first African American to play
in the NBA . Another Major change in NBA history was the shot clock, Added in the 1954
–55 season it has changed the way basketball is played.
Danny Biasone invented the shot clock and came up with a special number for how long teams can hold the ball. He looked at the box scores of
games he enjoyed watching the most and seen that each team took roughly around sixty shots so he times that by two, (Two teams) so that equals
120 shots. He then took forty eight minutes ( Length of a basketball game) and subtracted 2,880 ( Number of seconds in forty eight minutes) and
divided that by 120 (Shots per game) And came up with twenty four seconds. So now teams can no longer hold the ball for unlimited time, They have

Basketball's History And The History Of Basketball
The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts to condition young
athletes during cold months. It consisted of peach baskets and a soccer style ball. The game became established quickly and grew very popular as the
20th century progressed, first in America and then throughout the world. Afterbasketball became established in American colleges, the professional
game followed. The American National Basketball Association (NBA), established in 1946, grew to a multibillion–dollar enterprise by the end of the
century, and basketball became an integral part of American culture. This game is now played by more than 250 million people worldwide in an
organized fashion, as well as by countless others in pick up games. Basketball originated in 1891 when a future Presbyterian minister named James
Naismith was assigned to teach a physical education class at a Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) training school in Springfield,
Massachusetts. The first professional league was in 1898. Players that wanted to play earned $2.50 every home game they played and $1.25 for an
away game. A player on the Washington Bullets which are now called the Washington Wizards, had offers of more than 100 million dollars in over
seven seasons on the Washington Bullets and the Miami Heat. A lot of teams in the NBA now have players from different countries, who return home
to represent their native countries during the Olympic Games. The "Dream Team", made u–p of the top American professional players, has stood up for
the United States in the recent Olympic Games. In 1996 the "Dream Team" trailed some opponents until fairly late in the games– an indication of
basketball's growing international status. In Athens 2004, Argentina took the gold medal home. That's the first time a Latin American country won the
basketball honor. The rules to the game of Basketball is that the ball can be thrown in any direction with one or both hands. The ball may be batted in
any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist. A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he

Chuck Cooper, becoming the first NBA Franchise to sign a black player. The Celtics struggled in the early years, until future Hall of Famer coach
Red Auerbach would arrive. Auerbach did everything, he has no assistants, he did all of the scouting, scheduling, and coaching. In the mid 1950's
Star Bob Cousy would join the Celtics and the beginning of a dynasty had been formed. In 1957 the Celtics would draft Hall of Famer Bill Russell, one
of the greatest players to ever play the game of basketball. It didn't take long for the Celtics to take off, in just his rookie season Bill Russell led the
team to the NBA Finals and they won the NBA Championships, the first of his eleven, and the first of the Celtics seventeen, this began the Bill
Russell era. Russell would go on to lead the Celtics to eight championships in a row, and NBA record, he would retire with eleven NBA
Championships. Russell became a player coach in the late 1960's after Auerbach retired, becoming the first to ever do that and the first African
American coach in Pro Sports History. After Russell retired the Celtics went through a slight rebuilding phase, it didn't take long though. In 1970 Dave
Cowens came to the Celtics and in just 1974 the Celtics would go on to win their 12th NBA Championship. In 1976 the Celtics won their 13th

NBA 2K18, an annual installment of the 2K series, is targeted towards anyone who generally enjoys basketball who is over the age of ten.
Interestingly, many parents opt to buy this game for even younger children who are fans of the NBA so that the children themselves can indulge in
continuing their interest in basketball. What makes NBA 2K18 so effective is the realism it portrays through simulation. Players are able to control an
NBA player or team and learn many different play styles of basketball. Implicitly, the game allows players through observation to fundamentally
make adjustments to their own play style in real life or mimic aspects of professional player to make themselves better. On the other hand, players
through simulation may simply play their own play style and learn its weakness and strengths through success or failures against other players,
friends, or computer simulated games. For anyone who does not play basketball, NBA2K appeals to many because the NBA has such a huge fanbase.
By being able to control players in the NBA, fans can recreate highlight plays such as inhuman dunks, exceptional passes, and of course simply use
their favorite team to dominate all other NBA

As far as I have concluded, you really do not get any benefits except getting to bond with your kids and getting free airplane rides. There are as many

The game was initially played with peach baskets with a small hole in the bottom for a rod to poke the ball out, but they slowed the pace of the
game as the ball would need to be removed after a made shot. The first improvement to the peach basket came a year after basketball's invention
when the wire rim was introduced. It was not until 1906 that the metal rim and backboard were made standard (Basketball Equipment). Also,
basketball was first played with a soccer ball. When the first ball was designed specifically to be a basketball it was brown, making it hard for
players and spectators to track. It was not until the late 1950s that Tony Hinkle, Butler coach and president of the National Association of Basketball

Global health is defined as "health problems, issues, or concerns that transcend national borders" (Institute of Medicine, 1997, p. 2). Koplan (2009)

an interdisciplinary perspective and blends population health and clinical care.

An Article On The World Anti Doping Agency
On June 9th, 2016, an article written by ESPN Senior Writer, Darren Rovell, was published on ESPN.com regarding Maria Sharapova's two–year
suspension over a positive doping test result (Rovell, 2016). Maria Sharapova, the highest–paid female athlete today, announced in March 2016 that she
tested positive for taking meldonium, a banned substance that was recently added to the World Anti–Doping Agency's (WADA) prohibited substance
list. Initially, the International Tennis Federation(ITF) suspended Sharapova for two years but after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport
(CAS) by the Sharapova team, the Russian tennis star's suspension was reduced to 15 months and she can return to competition in April 2017.
Meldonium is a heart drug that is available for purchase over the counter in Russia. This drug is believed to help the body produce energy in a more
efficient manner. Sharapova was unintentionally committing a doping violation, which is the ethical issue in this situation. She had been taking
meldonium since 2006 to help her manage multiple health problems. Sharapova however, was not the only athlete that tested positive for meldonium.
There were around 172 athletes in total, 40 whom were Russian that also failed a drug test for taking meldonium. This affected Russia's attendance in
the Rio Olympic Games as a number of athletes were banned from participating in the Games for their meldonium intake. Sharapova's ethical

National Basketball Association: The Lockout

Webster University
Abstract (150 words)
This paper explores the history of the relationship of National Basketball Association and National Basketball Players Association.
It's really the behind the scenes acts of the players and owners that dictate what we watch on television. This behind the scenes activity is the act of
collective bargaining, which has existed since the begging. Collective bargaining in sports is the process by which owners in the professional sports
leagues negotiate with the players in their league on every issue that affects the sport. In this paper we are going to focus on the NBA (NATIONAL
Basketball Association) National Basketball Association: The Game Off The Court
The game of basketball was founded by Canadian physical education instructor James Naismith in 1891. It was a game that was first played in
local YMCA that helped developed the game to what it is today. The YMCA had a major role in spreading basketball thought the world. In 1893
basketball was now played at the collegiate level. A few years later in 1898 the first professional league was founded. The National Basketball
League consisted of six teams, but was later abandoned in 1904. The game continued to be played in YMCA and colleges around the world.
Basketball was known as an international sport and in 1932 FIBA (International Basketball Federation) was formed. Fifty–five years later after the
game we all grew to

Three Pointer Shot Percentage Of Mba Essay
My aim in doing this project with the set of data I have is to find out if the amount of games a person plays in the NBA effects there three pointer
shot percentage. NBA stands for National Basketball Association. A three pointer applies to a game called basketball. You shoot a three pointer
when you are behind the arc on one side of the court. The answer to this question may seem simple but it really isn't. For example, in the NBA there
has been a number of people that played 20 games but has a better three pointer shot percentage than someone that had played 50 games in the NBA.
Even though someone plays more games in the NBA, it does not mean that their shooting average would be better than someone who has not played as
much games as they did. ESPN is a U.S.–based global cable and satellite television channel owned by ESPN Inc. I am not sure how the number of
games effects three pointer shot percentage, but i would like to discover the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The independent variable would be the number of games played. To find the relationship I will be using frequency tables to organize the number
of games and shots made. The frequency table would allow me to see if the group with the highest games played made the most three points shots.
After i use the frequency table I will use measures of central tendency to find out the mean and the mode of the data set. After, I will make a line
regression to graph the line of best fit for my data to determine if it is strong, moderate, or weak. Then use correlation coefficient to to tell whether
the slope is negative or positive. Finally i will use the chi squared test for independence and x^2 to determine whether to form my hypothesis and

The rules are to dribble the ball, shoot the ball, pass the ball, and play as a team. To dribble the ball, you cannot travel. If you walk with the ball during
the game, the reff's will call it and you will get a turn over. To shoot the ball, you have to be open so that your opponent won't block you. There are

Brief History Of Field Hockey

  • 1. Brief History Of Field Hockey Introduction: A Brief History Field hockey's origins can be traced back 4000 years to ancient Egypt, Greece and Persia, although the game, as we have all come to know it, was developed in Britain in the late 19th century (Longstreth, 2014) . It is said to be the oldest team sport in history (Girasole, 2010) . Field Hockey's original name was the "ball and stick" game. Hockey was initially played with a cube, instead of the ball we use today. Hockey was initially considered to be too dangerous for women, but it became socially accepted when women were allowed to play sports such as lawn tennis and croquette (Girasole, 2010). The first Women's field hockey team was formed in 1887 in England. Hockey made its debut in the Olympics in 1908 and thus the International Hockey Federation was assembled (Girasole, 2010). Today, field hockey is the second largest team sport in the world, played in over 100 countries (McBryde, 2013). Identification of Problem In a sport with so much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These different responses can be a result of genetics, body size and shape, chronic conditions, past experience, injuries, gender and so forth. For example, the training program for a women's hockey team will be different to the training program for a men's hockey team. This would be due to factors such as men having higher testosterone levels, allowing them to build muscle mass faster, and men having lower flexibility, the men would thus have to do more flexibility exercises in order to abstain from injury. Another example would be that the links would have a different training program to the goalkeeper. The links would have a greater emphasis on fitness and speed, while the goalkeeper would have more of an emphasis on flexibility and skill, although fitness would also be a large aspect. It is imperative that a goalkeeper knows how to save a goal and is able to do so without injuring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Biomechanics Of A Skiing For this research assignment, the topic I would like to discuss is the biomechanics of a skiing. Skiing is one type of sports that has begun to increase in popularity. Athletes are always trying to discover ways to get stronger, faster, and higher with minimal injuries. Improving our biomechanics is one important way of improving your athletic performance, and limit injuries. However, there are many pros and cons within the biomechanics of skiing. I would like to learn more about leg alignment and form and how these can affect the skier. Abnormalities of the leg and lower–leg alignment are important factors while skiing. To be an efficient skier it requires a balanced movement. My methods of data collection to analyze my subject 's skill movement will consist of a multi–methods approach. This approach includes a mixture of literature reviews, observational review through video analysis, and interviews with the athlete. These data collection methods will help me in my project by allowing me to strategically point out differences in angular placement and posture, along with speed variations due to changes in position. I will be able to compare a professional style of skiing with that of a novice skier and point out the differences in positioning between an experienced skier and a novice skier. I will limit research information to scholarly and reputable sources only. Once of the sources I will reference comes from a research article called Clinical Biomechanics of Skiing. ... • 3. The Golden Basketball Necklace : The Golden Basketball Game The Golden Basketball Necklace Running into the gym with my team, knowing it was my last middle school basketball game, but the first championship game I felt elated and truly blessed. My knees quivered with anticipation after seeing all the bleachers filled with people. After realizing even the press and other media was in attendance I grasped the moment like a newly elected president at his inauguration. I am warming up doing basketball drills, when I began to look at the flags on the gym wall depicting the history of the basketball team. The years and dates of the last championship game, Historically a championship game had not been won since 2007 . The more I stared at the flags, the more it made me want to win this game and make history in this gym. As the crowd and cheerleaders start to chant, cheer and get loud, I started to feel more comfortable and rowdy more than I had ever felt in any other game that I've played. Waiting for the referee to blow the whistle for jump ball to start. I felt my fingertips tapping the side of my leg, which for some reason gives me a sign to me that I am pumped up and ready to play! As the referee blew the whistle, it was game time! My teammate was on her tip toes already in motion to jump, she jumped and smacked the ball before the other opponent could even get a chance to jump! The ball came my way and I dribbled the ball three times, crossed doubled between my legs two times, I lingered up, did the Lebron James basketball ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Benefits Of Team Sports Many people love to praise victory on the playing field, cheer for their favorite team and play sports. However, is there more to sports than just fitness? Is playing a team sport actually good for us as we make it seem or is it just a fun way to pass the time? Actually, participating in any team sport has a positive effect on many areas of life. Some are well known and others may surprise you. We all know that playing any kind of sport comes with physical benefits like strengthening the body, developing coordination, and promoting physical fitness, but is that all that the player gains? First of all, it is well accepted that exercise is good for our bodies and minds. Exercising gives us stronger bones, clears out cholesterol from out arteries, and decreases the risk of stroke, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Does that mean we get much benefit of going to the gym five days a week as we would by joining a team and competing? Here is where it gets interesting; studies show that if you find a sport and a team you like you will gain all sorts of benefits that go beyond the physical and mental of exercise alone. Literature review: What is a team?: A team is a group of players forming one side in a competitive game or sport. An individual cannot perform all tasks on his/her own. Team... • 7. Performance Analysis : The International Basketball... CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.0 Previous research The majority of previous research pertaining to performance analysis in basketball has been focused on the quantitative analysis of game–related statistics, commonly found in a basketball box–score (Sampaio et al., 2006). These game–related statistics include: field goal attempts, field goals made, field goal percentage, 3–point field goal attempts, 3–point field goals made, 3–point field goal percentage, free throws attempted, free throws made, free throw percentage, defensive rebounds, offensive rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers and personal fouls. The practical value of performance analysis is that well–chosen performance indicators allow good and bad techniques or team performances to be highlighted (Hughes & Franks, 2008). Trinic et al. (2002) analysed the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) official performance indicators with the goal of identifying parameters that differentiated between winning and losing teams which played in the final tournaments of the European club championships from 1992 to 2000. Discriminant function structure coefficients (SC) from discriminant analysis exposed that defensive rebounds (SC = 0.42), field goal percentage (3–point field goals made SC = 0.24, 3–point field goals missed SC = –0.30, 2–point field goals made SC = 0.14 and 2–point field goals missed SC = –0.26), and free throw percentage (SC = 0.26) had the highest discriminative power respectively. ... • 8. Moving To A Small Town Research Paper For me the move to Charlotte was a big improvement from my hometown. Yes the move does have its downside but when comparing the overall positives to the negatives, the good outweighs the bad. Coming from me that is major because when my mother first told me and my sister that we were moving I was not the happiest camper. The thought of moving from the country side to the city, did not excite me at all. My home town is none other than small town Greenwood located in South Carolina. Greenwood is a very small town population 69,520. A town so small that everyone seemed to know everyone, this was my least favorite thing about living there. Living the country side allowed you have your own personal space, not having another family that lived so close to you that you felt they were in your own yard. There was so much land around my home I could enjoy things like having a full court to shoot hoops on, enjoy things like riding go carts, four wheelers, and dirt bikes. Not only did I enjoy have all that space, but so did my dog Snoopy, he was able to roam freely and mark his territory where ever he pleased. Not only did I have the comfort of the low crime rate and the comfort of having space, your own getaway within your home, but I also had the comfort of my a few family member who were my neighbors, all of my near neighbors were my family members, with them living so close they were there to help raise me, and I am so thankful to have had family so ... • 9. The Peach Basket Game: Basketball: The Game Of Basketball Basketball was invented by Dr. Naismith. (He looks like teddy Roosevelt) Dr. Naismith, with all of his imaginative planning, could not have imaged his Peach Basket game would turn into my favorite indoor sport. Originally, there was no set rule on the number of players. The idea was that the game could be played by any number of players at one time. However that never worked, so they changed the rule from any number of players to 9. But In 1897 they changed it to five because nine was too many players. Originally, the game was played with peach baskets or 18 square boxes hung from the balconies of the running tracks of most indoor places. So every time someone would make a basket someone would half to get a ladder to get the ball back. At this time the basket height was established at 10 feet which is the same height to this day. Back to the baskets it took forever to get the ball out of the baskets then, a year later, in 1893 cast iron rims were used as nets. Backboards were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1904 that boundaries became lines. The first out of bounds situations turned out to be disastrous. Ball possession was awarded to the first person who touch the ball after it went out of bounds. Although the use of cages were abandoned in 1933 the name cagers is used to day. They had put chicken wire around the entire court. But it was also used so no one could through stuff in to the court. The half court line was made in 1932 to stop stalling. Before the half court line was made the other team would have the entire court to them self's. It is an analysis on the performance of the team members of the Wizards team from the NBA. The visualization has the purpose of detecting the distances between the player and the hoop where the most efficient shots where taken. • 11. Passer To Play Volleyball A new sport was invented by William Morgan in 1895. "Morgan was an instructor at a YMCA and blended elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create this new sport." (Evdokimoff 2011) Since the ball was "volleyed" over a net, it soon became known as volleyball. According to Evdokimoff, the first official game was played at Massachusetts College in 1896. Volleyball is considered an easy sport to those who have never played; however, it involves many skills, much determination, and constant communication. On the offensive end, passing is the first thing that must be done. In order for the setter to set the ball, the passer must make a good pass. The passer has to judge whether or not the serve or the hit is in or out. Next, a passer will move his or her body behind the ball. While staying low, the passer then turns his or her shoulders towards the target, the setter. It... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hitter's first job is to try to block the opposing team's attack. Then the hitter must get off the net and be ready for the set. If the ball does not come, the hitter must cover the person who is hitting. In an attacking situation, the hitter must jump, make contact with the ball at its highest peak, and snap the wrist. In volleyball, all players have a specific job, but must rely on each other to get individual jobs done. Communication is the biggest key to a good volleyball team. First, a passer must call the ball if able to make the pass. If players do not talk and claim the ball, it may hit the floor. Also, the setter has to tell his or her teammates if he or she can get to the second hit. Finally, everyone who is not hitting should talk to the hitter. It is imperative to share where to place the hit, if tipping is a better option, and how many blockers there are. Miscommunication could cost the team a point or even the game. • 13. Basketball's History And The History Of Basketball The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts to condition young athletes during cold months. It consisted of peach baskets and a soccer style ball. The game became established quickly and grew very popular as the 20th century progressed, first in America and then throughout the world. Afterbasketball became established in American colleges, the professional game followed. The American National Basketball Association (NBA), established in 1946, grew to a multibillion–dollar enterprise by the end of the century, and basketball became an integral part of American culture. This game is now played by more than 250 million people worldwide in an organized fashion, as well as by countless others in pick up games. Basketball originated in 1891 when a future Presbyterian minister named James Naismith was assigned to teach a physical education class at a Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. The first professional league was in 1898. Players that wanted to play earned $2.50 every home game they played and $1.25 for an away game. A player on the Washington Bullets which are now called the Washington Wizards, had offers of more than 100 million dollars in over seven seasons on the Washington Bullets and the Miami Heat. A lot of teams in the NBA now have players from different countries, who return home to represent their native countries during the Olympic Games. The "Dream Team", made u–p of the top American professional players, has stood up for the United States in the recent Olympic Games. In 1996 the "Dream Team" trailed some opponents until fairly late in the games– an indication of basketball's growing international status. In Athens 2004, Argentina took the gold medal home. That's the first time a Latin American country won the basketball honor. The rules to the game of Basketball is that the ball can be thrown in any direction with one or both hands. A fast–paced and physical game, fans and players devote countless time, energy, and money to the beloved sport. From pee–wee to the NBA, basketball has become one of the world's most popular sports. Ironically enough, the game of shot clocks and three point lines started with one man, a soccer ball, and two peach baskets. In 1891, in the town of Springfield, Massachusetts, a Canadian physical education instructor at the YMCA Training School was faced with a problem. Dr. Naismith had a Massachusetts winter to face, and he did not have a satisfactory activity to keep his students engaged while indoors. He wanted an activity that would be strenuous for his young... The game was initially played with peach baskets with a small hole in the bottom for a rod to poke the ball out, but they slowed the pace of the game as the ball would need to be removed after a made shot. The first improvement to the peach basket came a year after basketball's invention when the wire rim was introduced. It was not until 1906 that the metal rim and backboard were made standard (Basketball Equipment). Also, basketball was first played with a soccer ball. When the first ball was designed specifically to be a basketball it was brown, making it hard for players and spectators to track. It was not until the late 1950s that Tony Hinkle, Butler coach and president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches from 1954 to 1955, designed an easily visible orange ball (Basketball Equipment). As for size, the ball was first invented, in 1894, to be thirty to thirty–two inches in circumference, but today it has two general sizes, 28.5 and 29 inches in circumference, the larger size for men's basketball and the smaller for ... • 36. An Article On The World Anti Doping Agency On June 9th, 2016, an article written by ESPN Senior Writer, Darren Rovell, was published on ESPN.com regarding Maria Sharapova's two–year suspension over a positive doping test result (Rovell, 2016). Maria Sharapova, the highest–paid female athlete today, announced in March 2016 that she tested positive for taking meldonium, a banned substance that was recently added to the World Anti–Doping Agency's (WADA) prohibited substance list. Initially, the International Tennis Federation(ITF) suspended Sharapova for two years but after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) by the Sharapova team, the Russian tennis star's suspension was reduced to 15 months and she can return to competition in April 2017. Meldonium is a heart drug that is available for purchase over the counter in Russia. This drug is believed to help the body produce energy in a more efficient manner. Sharapova was unintentionally committing a doping violation, which is the ethical issue in this situation. She had been taking meldonium since 2006 to help her manage multiple health problems. Sharapova however, was not the only athlete that tested positive for meldonium. There were around 172 athletes in total, 40 whom were Russian that also failed a drug test for taking meldonium. This affected Russia's attendance in the Rio Olympic Games as a number of athletes were banned from participating in the Games for their meldonium intake. Sharapova's ethical orientation affects her behaviour and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Three Pointer Shot Percentage Of Mba Essay My aim in doing this project with the set of data I have is to find out if the amount of games a person plays in the NBA effects there three pointer shot percentage. NBA stands for National Basketball Association. A three pointer applies to a game called basketball. You shoot a three pointer when you are behind the arc on one side of the court. The answer to this question may seem simple but it really isn't. For example, in the NBA there has been a number of people that played 20 games but has a better three pointer shot percentage than someone that had played 50 games in the NBA. Even though someone plays more games in the NBA, it does not mean that their shooting average would be better than someone who has not played as much games as they did. ESPN is a U.S.–based global cable and satellite television channel owned by ESPN Inc. I am not sure how the number of games effects three pointer shot percentage, but i would like to discover the... After, I will make a line regression to graph the line of best fit for my data to determine if it is strong, moderate, or weak.
