Firewalls are systems that control communication between a computer network and the outside to maintain the safety of the network. They are named firewalls because they prevent "fire", or cracking, from the outside from reaching the internal computer network. Firewalls aim to maintain the security of computer networks by regulating communication between the network and external sources.
