Tooth And Caw Analysis
Tooth and Claw: Analytical Paper
Tooth and Claw is a short story written by Tom Coraghessan Boyle. The phrase Tooth and Claw
means one is struggling as hard as he can and making every effort possible. Junior is struggling and
making an effort to overcome his past burdens and insecurities. The story is set in Santa Barbara,
California. In the story Tooth and Claw, Junior wins a cat in a game of dice, from a irregular man
named Ludwig. The cat is justified to be unmanageable. Shortly after, Daria tells Junior she is in a
relationship. Daria leaves Junior to take care of the cat alone. Junior gets frustrated and decides to
free the cat. Irony, Setting, and Characters are presented in this short story which make it very
remarkable. First, the irony that is presented in the story is presented when Junior moved to the
coast to achieve excitement to his life. He only receives pleasure working or hanging at Daggetts.
Junior despises drunkards and has no intention of becoming a drunkard himself, yet hypothetically,
he allocates much of this time drinking at Daggetts. An example of how this is clearly shown is
when the reader claims, "I wasn't stupid. And I had no intention of becoming a drunk like all the
hard–assed old men in the shopping mall blighted town I had grew up in. . . and Daggett's was the
only place I felt comfortable. . . because it was filled with old men drinking themselves into
oblivion" (62).This example explains why this is so important because he references

My Tooth Fairy Speech
Mommy, how do I kill the tooth fairy?
I hated the tooth fairy. Okay, I still hate the tooth fairy. But I mean come on! A small, winged person
comes into your room while you're sleeping and exchanges a piece of your body for money. I'm
pretty sure that's only legal in Nevada.
When I first discovered this mythical creature, I was four, and had a newly loose tooth.
"The tooth fairy will be coming tonight," my mother said.
Girl was lying to me; I did not believe one word that lying witch uttered.
So... I did what any normal four year old would do:
I broke into my parent's' wallet and marked all of their dollar bills with a highlighter.
And guess what? I woke up with highlighted bill under my pillow. Who woulda thunk?
I ran into my parents bedroom screaming "I HAVE PROOF, I HAVE PROOF! THE TOOTH FAIRY
IS FAKE AND YOU LIED TO ME!"
And I was right... and broke; never got another cent from the tooth fairy.
Yet, that fateful day, I learned the most important word of my life; my mother looked at me with a
whimsical glance and said, "My curious boy."
I don't know why she talks like that.
But that word, curious, stuck with me. Curiosity instigates change, governs the governors. Yet, our
curiosity is fading, and the consequences are evident. From indifference to stagnation, we aren't
asking questions.
That's just it, isn't it? To question is to know, and knowledge is a prerequisite to informed decision
making.
Therefore, it is necessary to examine our fading curiosity and its effects.

Causes And Disadvantages Of Tooth Discoloration
A recent survey has found that 80% of Americans aged eighteen to forty–nine want their teeth
whiter (Lisa Vernon–Sparks 2010). According to the American Association of Orthodontists, they
have found that 90% of their patients request tooth whitening (Mouth Healthy 2013). Many claim a
brighter smile would help boost their self confidence and it is also a cost effective way to enhance
teeth (Your Smile Becomes You). Teeth whitening has become an easy way to instantly improve
appearance or first impression on someone. Numerous toothpaste companies claim their brand of
toothpaste can whiten teeth the best, but can they really? Top toothpaste brands include Colgate
Optic Whitening Toothpaste, 3D Crest White Luxe Toothpaste, AP–24, Arm & Hammer Advance
White Toothpaste, Sensodyne Pronamel Whitening Toothpaste, and many more. Overall AP–24
Toothpaste has the best whitening result on ceramic tile.
What is the tooth discoloration? The main causes of tooth discoloration is antibiotics, genetics,
certain foods, and aging. There are two types of tooth discoloration. They consist of internal and
external tooth discoloration. Internal tooth discoloration is caused by changes in enamel of the
dentin and tooth. Main causes of internal tooth discoloration are exposure to high level fluoride,
tetracycline, use of antibiotics as a child, developmental disorders, tooth decay, trauma, root canal
issues, and restorations. External tooth discoloration is caused from the outside of the body,

Childhood Memory
There is one childhood memory that I can easily remember, even though it was ten years ago, I can
remember it as if it were yesterday. Reminiscing back to the sad day racing my brother home from
the bus stop where I had the accident of my life. Him being nearly a year older he beat me home but
shut the door in my face as soon as I reach home where I was running full speed right into the door
head first. That day change my life in all the wrong ways because I chip one of my tooth and lost a
one as well. I was mad at my brother for weeks even though I know he didn't mean to hurt me or
wanted to damage my teeth because I understand that accident do happen. I forgave him for that
incident but indue time I realize the way my teeth was growing which wasn't normal.
Meanwhile, as time past my teeth situation had gotten out of control where I desperately told my
mother that I wanted to go to the dentist. She immediately told me she would book me an
appointment. As time past I went for a check up where I heard the great news I would need to get
braces in the future. Growing up my mom was single parent with four kids so paying for braces
wasn't her first priorities. Therefore we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

while me and the rest of my classmates outside running around saying I had an earlier dismissal.
Getting braces was all I thinking about while packing my bag and on the way to get in my mothers

orthodontist to get my braces. I was extremely happy that the day had finally came and was more

Tooth Discoloration Essay
Tooth discoloration is extrinsic or intrinsic i.e. may be restricted to the outer layer (enamel) or may
involve the deeper layer (dentin) of the tooth. Various factors like genes, poor oral hygiene,
smoking, consumption of food substances like tea, coffee, wine, cranberries, etc. and even aging are
the common culprits behind the tooth discoloration. The stains on the teeth can also stain your life
negatively. You may suffer from low self–esteem and self–rejection due to the failure in securing a
job or because of a broken relationship. People judge by appearance and tooth discoloration gives an
indication of negligence towards oral hygiene. Nevertheless, tooth whitening helps you regain back
your beautiful smile.

–The concentration of bleaching agents like hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide is high in
the solutions used in the chairside tooth whitening procedures.
–The dentist uses tools like lasers, heat therapy or special lights to remove the deep and intrinsic
discoloration as it helps the solution to oxidize the ingrained stains.
–Thus, you can get whiter teeth within one or two appointments. Also, the effects last longer when
compared to those obtained by other methods.
–Tooth sensitivity usually occurs, especially in young people, during or after the treatment.
However, the dentist isolates the soft tissues during the procedure with rubber dam or protective gel
and uses special techniques to minimize the chance of development of tooth sensitivity.
–The professional tooth whitening does not require a much active participation of the patient as
compared to the use of 'over–the–counter' products or the at–home whitening kits. Thus, you can sit
back, relax on the dental chair and listen to your favorite piece of music while your dentist gives you

Teeth whitening is the process of making teeth look whiter using bleach or other materials to remove
stains and discoloration from the surface of the tooth. Do you think teeth whitening should be
available anywhere? There are many important factors to consider. "Understanding the Legal Battles
over Teeth–Whitening" published by the Association of Health Care Journalists written by Mary
Otto, n.d. states some people say "non dentists should not be allowed to bleach teeth. Many states
have taken steps to shut down these establishments". Some but not all states have changed laws and
regulations to ban all non dentists, hygienists and assistants from teeth whitening procedures.

Experience With The Tooth Fairy
I have had too many experiences with the paranormal not to believe that there is something more
going on than meets the eye. One of my biggest scares from when I was young was an experience
with the Tooth Fairy – or what I thought was the Tooth Fairy. After this experience, I don't ever
remember putting a tooth under my pillow again. The fear of what might have come into my already
terrifying room was likely too scary to me.
My Tooth Fairy Didn't Feel This Cute
My Childhood Bedroom Was Terrifying

terrifying to me. I had experiences in the rest of the house too, but the bedroom is supposed to be a
place where you can go and hide and be safe.

pulled down and up on numerous occasions. Knocks on the walls. My side light turning on all by
itself as I slept. And the Tooth Fairy entering my room... but I'll tell you about that in a second.
I was so scared every single night that I would say the following prayer:
Please don't let me hear anything, feel anything, see anything, touch anything, or sense anything.
I would repeat it over and over until something scary happened or until I fell asleep.
I also slept with a pillow over my head to try and drown out any noise – a habit I haven't gotten rid
of yet.

reason, this night I was scared.
I had my tooth pillow under my sleeping pillow, and I was scared out of my mind as I laid on my
side waiting for the Tooth Fairy to come.
My bed was facing my closet, which reflected light off it because it was white and shiny. And the

Cracked Tooth
No one likes to hear the news that one of their teeth contains a cavity or is cracked. The general
procedure for cavity restoration consists of filling the cleaned tooth with either silver amalgam or
white composite, but from time to time a dentist will recommend replacing a damaged tooth with a
dental crown. But how do you know if you might need one?
Cracked Tooth
A tooth can crack for numerous reasons: grinding the teeth, biting hard foods, an injury, and/or
natural wear and tear. Indications of a possible crack are temperature sensitivity or pain while biting.
If the crack is a surface crack just within the enamel, then bonding the tooth to keep the crack from
spreading is an acceptable solution. However, if the crack is close to the

Principle 1: In tooth supported edentulous spaces,...
Principle 1: In tooth supported edentulous spaces, location of the undercut determines the retentive
clasp type. In general, in these cases any type of clasp that could approach the undercut of the
abutment teeth can be used.
NOTE: When mesiobuccal undercut is presents in the mesial abutment tooth of a modification in
Class II mod 1 classification, wrought wire clasp must be used and if a distobuccal undercut is
presents, I bar or half–T clasp must be used.
Principle 2: In the abutment teeth adjacent to the tooth and tissue supported edentulous spaces
(Kennedy Class I & II and long span Class III & IV):
–RPI (mesial rest, distal proximal plate, and buccal I–bar) design is the clasp of choice.
– If use of I–bar in vestibule, because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The latter clasp would be preferred if caries incidence is higher than usual.
–Consider the tooth position in the arch. Some clinicians feel that the canine teeth should be clasped
with cast infrabulge retainers (bar clasps) since these teeth are relatively unsupported against
mesially directed forces. It is reasoned that wrought clasps are too flexible and will not resist such
movement.
–When there is marked mobility of one or more of the abutments, the use of stress–releasing direct
retainers becomes more important. Stress relieving clasp assemblies allow release of the tooth and
therefore, result in more of load being transferred to the denture base tissues.
–I–bars should gently curve from the gridwork and originate from the gridwork approximately one
tooth posterior to the replacement tooth adjacent to the abutment. Do not use L–bars (less flexible).
6– Designing the indirect retainer
Class I and Class II partial dentures often require indirect retainers. These should be as far from the
primary fulcrum line as possible (90°), and placed on the opposite side of the fulcrum line from the
denture base. They are normally not required for tooth–borne RPD's.
They must be placed on a rest seat prepared on an abutment tooth that is capable of withstanding the
forces placed on it. An indirect retainer cannot function effectively on an inclined tooth surface, nor
can a single weak incisor tooth be used for this purpose.

Relativity Of Truth In Life Of Pi
Life of Pi: The Relativity of Truth
The relativity of truth refers to truth relativism, which is the doctrine that there are no absolute
truths. The truth is always relative to some particular frame of reference. An example of truth
relativism is the "The Dress" trend which went viral because viewers disagreed over whether the
colors of the dress were black and blue or gold and white. Because of how a human perceives the
color, it could be either of these colors based on how a person sees it. The relativity of truth in the
Life of Pi includes and refers to "the Blind Frenchman", the algae island, and which story Pi told the
interviewers was true.
To begin, when Pi went blind in chapter 90 and practically gave up on surviving, he heard a voice.
"It's astonishing what you hear when you're alone in the blackness of your dying mind." (Martel, Pg
242). To people, this could refer to Pi hearing an actual person or it could just be a figment of his
imagination. " Misery loves company, and madness calls it forth." (Martel, Pg 242). This adds to the
theory that the voice Pi heard was just a figment of his imagination. Further on in the novel, Pi
"meets" and "speaks" to "the Blind Frenchman" after figuring out that it wasn't Richard Parker he
was talking to. Later on, Richard Parker "killed" the Frenchman and Pi explored his boat, finding
out that the Frenchman had lied to him about having food. What doesn't add up is that Pi regained
his eyesight two days after the Frenchman's "murder" and when he went to check out the dead man's
boat, he was still blind. This could mean that Pi didn't actually go on the Frenchman's boat but was
actually exploring his boat and that the man was a figment of his imagination to suppress the
loneliness Pi was feeling.
Furthermore, in chapter 92, Pi discovers an algae island with food to eat and land to settle on. Pi
stated " ...that the island was not an island in the conventional sense of the term–that is, a small
landmass rooted to the floor of the ocean–but was rather a free–floating organism..."(Martel, Pg
271–272). One could assume that this wasn't an actual island, but something that Pi made up to add
depth to the story he was telling or this was an island that has never been

Descriptive Essay About A Puppy
Running faster than the speed of light, a cute puppy came rushing toward me as we were playing in
the backyard. With no intention of stopping, the biggest puppy I've ever seen in my life ran head
first hitting the top of my mouth¬―chipping my tooth. The puppy's name was Bruno. A big brown
playful puppy with a line of white fur running from the middle of his eyes to the top of his nose on
his face. I loved Bruno, but he was not the first pitbull puppy that I've had.
When I was in Idyllwild on a family trip to play in the snow one day, we stopped at a convenience
store to get something to snack on and drink. When we walked inside there was a man walking
around trying to sell a pitbull puppy with faint black spots hidden behind his fuzzy white fur. It was
close to my step brother's birthday at the time, and he wanted the puppy as an early birthday present.
My step brother, Nathaniel, wasn't the only one who wanted that puppy. In truth, the rest of my
family on this trip also wanted the puppy. As we left Idyllwild that day, we left with one more puppy
than we came with. At the time, the puppy's name was Carlitos, but we decided to name him Rosco
instead.
Rosco rarely wanted to play with me because he loved my step brother so much more than he did
me, or anyone else for that matter. In fact, Nathaniel was the only person who Rosco would run
around and jump on whenever he was in his presence. I wished that Rosco would play with me just
as much as he did with my step brother, but

Human tooth
Teeth of humans are small, calcified, whitish structures found in the mouth that are used to break
down food. The roots of teeth are embedded in the maxilla (upper jaw) or the mandible (lower jaw)
and are covered by gums. Teeth are made of multiple tissues of varying density and hardness.
Teeth are among the most distinctive (and long–lasting) features of mammal species. Humans, like
other mammals, are diphyodont, meaning that they develop two sets of teeth. The first set (also
called the "baby", "milk", "primary", and "deciduous" set) normally starts to appear at about six
months of age, although some babies are born with one or more visible teeth, known as neonatal ...

Depending on the extent of tooth destruction, various treatments can be used to restore teeth to
proper form, function, and aesthetics, but there is no known method to regenerate large amounts of
tooth structure. Instead, dental health organizations advocate preventive and prophylactic measures,
such as regular oral hygiene and dietary modifications, to avoid dental caries.
Causes
There are four main criteria required for caries formation: a tooth surface (enamel or dentin); caries–
causing bacteria; fermentable carbohydrates (such as sucrose); and time. The caries process does not
have an inevitable outcome, and different individuals will be susceptible to different degrees
depending on the shape of their teeth, oral hygiene habits, and the buffering capacity of their saliva.
Dental caries can occur on any surface of a tooth that is exposed to the oral cavity, but not the
structures that are retained within the bone. All caries occurs from acid demineralization that
exceeds saliva and fluoride remineralization, and almost all acid demineralization occurs where food
(containing carbohydrate like sugar) is left on teeth. Though most trapped food is left between teeth,
over 80% of cavities occur inside pits and fissures on chewing surfaces where brushing, fluoride,
and saliva cannot reach to remineralize the tooth as they do on easy–to–reach surfaces that develop
few cavities.

How Do Different Liquid Affect The Health Of A Tooth?
My question is how do different liquid affect the health of a tooth? In many ways each tooth can be
affected by liquids, but how much can the tooth take from one kind of liquid. Now how much
caffeine, acid, and sugar must be used in these liquids to erode or stain your teeth and how hot and
cold does it have to break them..
The items I am using is coffee, tea, non–caffeine soda, diet soda, and normal soda. One thing I saw
alike in coffee, tea, diet soda, and normal soda, is that they all include caffeine. Caffeine is one out
of many types of items that stain your teeth.Caffeine also causes your teeth to become more
sensitive. Sensitivity is a very important to erode teeth this is because acids could come in and easily
break your teeth.
Another acid that is in most of these liquids is citric acid this acid is another way the tooth erodes
easier. The reasoning behind this is that citric acid could move inside the softer area of your tooth,
inner layer of the tooth or dentin. This process allows significant sensitivity on you teeth. This
process not only erodes the tooth it also dissolves your teeth. This then allows the liquid to erode
more easily and quicker. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, tooth decay is caused by bacteria in the mouth using sugar from drinks to produce
acids that dissolve and damage the teeth. So without sugar the acids that are used to erode your teeth
would not be produced and reproduce multiple times. This also causes conditions such as tooth pain
and sensitivity. Sugar also includes a part in causing plaque this is because as the sugar and bacteria
mix and create acid some parts of the bacteria are left on the your teeth, this is how plaque is made.
This bacteria that is left on the teeth then builds up more and more bacteria which then will become
acid if you add sugar. This acid will then erode your teeth in an extraordinary

An Experiment On Tooth Decay
Karly Klein and Hope Greim
4th Hour
ISP Research Paper
For an ISP, the topic of this experiment is on tooth decay. In order to prepare for the experiment,
research was conducted for information about teeth, how teeth are similar to eggshells, how sugar
affects the teeth, the amount of sugar in selected drinks, and the MOHS Scale. Tooth decay is the
ruin of the outer surface (enamel) of the tooth. The enamel is the thin outer covering of the tooth.
Responsible for the protection of the teeth, the enamel is the hardest tissue in the human body. Tooth
erosion occurs when this surface is worn away by acidic substances. Some sources of tooth erosion
are soft drinks, juice drinks, or any other sugary drink. Sugar reacts with plaque, a ... Show more

Teeth and bird eggs are similar because both are made from calcium compounds. The tooth enamel
is made from calcium phosphate, which is any variety of phosphates of calcium. The egg shell
contains calcium carbonate, which is CaCo3 . These are alike because both contain composites of
calcium, but are not actually pure components of it. So when the MOHS scale is performed, the egg
and teeth get damaged in similar ways.
The MOHS scale of hardness is an essential part of this experiment. This method was invented by a
German mineralogist, Frederich Mohs (1773–1839) in 1812. The purpose of the Mohs scale is to
identify the hardness of materials and minerals using items that can be found in a classroom. The
MOHS scale is done using a scale to measure the hardness of a material by the resistance to
scratching. The process is to apply slight pressure to the object being tested (an egg in this case)
using an item like a nail or coin, and pull the item along the surface of the object. If there is a
scratch, then that is the hardness of the object. However, if there is only some residue from the
object being scratched, then that is not considered the hardness. To check if there is a scratch or
residue, gently wipe off the area. If the mark remains, then it is a scratch, not just residue. These are
easy to get confused. Make sure to perform the test again in a different area to check the results to
make sure they are accurate. There are different items used to test this

When they eat those foods, the bacteria create an acid that attacks tooth enamel and causes decay.
The acids that cause tooth demineralization (cavity formation) are produced by specific types of
bacteria (mutans streptococci and lactobacilli) that live in dental plaque.
These bacteria are living organisms just like we are. When we consume foods and beverages, we
create waste products. Bacteria do the same thing. The bacteria that cause tooth decay utilize sugars
(glucose, sucrose, fructose, lactose, or cooked starches) as their food source. The waste products
created from digesting these sugars are the acids (especially lactic acid) that cause the
demineralization of tooth enamel and dentin.
Since the bacteria that live in our mouth eat when we do, as we ingest foods which contain sugars
(such as soda, candy, milk, and even fruits and vegetables) these bacteria get a meal too. And within
minutes they start producing the acids that cause tooth decay. Bacteria that are exposed to sugars or
carbohydrates can make acid, which attacks the crystal–like substance in the tooth's outer surface.
This process is known as demineralization. The first sign of this is a chalky white spot. Acid
formation, and hence tooth demineralization, begins within minutes of the bacteria receiving a
sugary meal. It can take up to several hours for saliva to penetrate the layer of dental plaque and
neutralize these acids. At this stage, the decay process can be reversed. Using

Tooth Bleaching
Patients today are in high demand for more than a healthy mouth and a perfect smile. Color and
esthetics of the teeth are important topics for patients, as they influence self–esteem and professional
relationships. Tooth discoloration may cause cosmetic and social problems for the patient. Therefor
dentist and patients spend a large amount of money trying to improve the appearance of teeth. Tooth
bleaching has become a very popular and common method for whitening discolored teeth in modern
esthetic dentistry. Tooth bleaching refers to any procedure that does not use restorative materials and
that changes the color and appearance of teeth that were discolored do to intrinsic and extrinsic
staining (Karadas and Hatipoglu 2015). There are three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Listerine Whitening and Plax Whitening could not match the results of supervised home
bleaching methods, such as 10% Carbamide peroxide Whitening gel. This factor could be caused by
the fact that Whitening mouth rinses contain a lower percentage of hydrogen peroxide. Listerine
Whitening contains 2% of hydrogen peroxide and Plax Whitening contains 1.5%. Additionally, how
acidic the mouth rise is can determine the whitening effect of the mouthwash. If the mouthwash is to
acidic it can cause the shade of the teeth to become darker over time. Another factor that researchers
has stated that can affect the whitening effect of whitening mouthwashes is the exposure time. The
use of Whitening mouth rinses is recent and few studies on this topic are available (Oliveira et al.,
2017). Additionally, manufactures conduct their own evaluations or fund researchers to test their
product. Thus, there is no need to conduct independent studies using commercially available
products to learn the action and possible side effects of mouth rinses and other over the counter
bleaching products (Lima et al., 2012). More clinical trials are needed so that researchers can ensure
the effectiveness of whitening mouth rinses, and determine the best protocol to use

The Replacement Of A Single Tooth
Introduction:
The replacement of a single tooth lost due to dental caries or trauma can be challenging for a
clinician. Traditionally several options are indicated in order to restore the edentulous space
including implant/crown, fixed partial dentures (FPD) or removable partial denture (RPD). However
economic factors, occlusal disturbances, lack of adequate bone support or excessive removal of
healthy dental structure are some of the limiting factors in the traditional treatment modalities.
One approach that is overlooked and may serve as a good treatment modality is the Fiber Reinforced
Composite Bridge (FRCB). FRCBs are minimally invasive and economic treatment modalities that
can be utilized to replace of a missing tooth and restore an edentulous space.
The ideal site for a conservative FRCB is an edentulous space spanning one to two teeth. Other
considerations include occlusion or the bite relation, periodontal status, oral hygiene, and the status
of abutment teeth.
It should be noted that this modality of treatment is the not the most ideal modaility of treatment
however, it does provide an alternative approach if the ideal modality (Implant/Crown, FPD, RPD)
is not accepted or acceptable. Patient accepting this treatment modality should be aware that there is
a risk of aspiration. Retention with FRCB cannot reach the level of FPDs; more conservative
preparations and bonded nature FRCBs are two reasons worth noting. Patients should exercise care

Root Canal Retreatment Research Paper
If you are experiencing in a tooth that has previously undergone a root canal treatment, you may
need a second root canal. A second root canal on the same tooth is referred to as a retreatment.
What Prompts A Retreatment
The vast majority of root canal treatments are successful the first time through. However, a small
percentage of people who have a root canal done will need to the that same tooth treated again at
some point down the road. The causes behind a retreatment can vary, but are generally caused by
one of the following issues:

If you have secondary roots or if your roots look very small and curved, an endodontist will have the

What Happens During A Retreatment
A root canal retreatment is very similar to a root canal treatment. The area around the affected tooth
will be numbed and dental dam will be placed in your mouth in order to stabilize the surgery
location.
The biggest different between a retreat and a regular root canal occurs during the next step. Any
crowns, posts or filling material that have been installed in your tooth will need to be removed. The
first time your tooth was worked on, there should not have been any crowns or posts to remove. This
adding process makes the retreatment process a little longer than the original process.
Next, any additional material that may obstruct the dentist from doing their job will be removed
with a very small tool that vibrates loose any additional tooth debris. Then, your dentist will use
very small tools in order to clean out all of your roots. If you have any curves or twists in your roots,

This inexpensive home remedy works because it's a mild abrasive and scrubs away stains instead of

For another way to use this product, mix a small amount of hydrogen peroxide with a small amount
of baking soda in order to make a paste that helps remove more plaque from teeth. A review
published in the Journal of Dentistry found that "results from the five controlled clinical studies on
over 270 subjects consistently demonstrate that Arm & Hammer baking soda dentifrices enhanced
plaque removal effectiveness of tooth brushing to a significantly greater extent than the non–baking
soda dentifrice products." (5) Results from measurements of patients' tooth surfaces (such as facial,
lingual, proximal and gingival surfaces) also demonstrated statistically greater reductions in mean
plaque scores when using baking soda compared to when using baking soda–free products.

Life Of Pi Diction Essay
The passage chosen is an extract from pages 310–311 in Life of Pi by Yann Martel, taken place
shortly after Pi arrives on the island. The purpose of the passage is crucial in both the reader's and
Pi's frightening realization of the carnivorous nature of the island, as Pi finds a set of human teeth
hidden in accumulation of leaves. As the reader unravels the passage and subsequently realizes its
horrors, one finds that the Martel successfully uses structure with the transitioning to very short
paragraphs. Language, or rather the use of repetition, places great emphasis into Pi's unravelings,

There is a very small portion of the picture being described. Nothing about the surroundings, what
Pi is feeling, or anything else offering the reader imagery of other sorts. Instead, the beginning of the

narration is very evident in excerpts in the 3 paragraph Martel uses to show the reader that Pi is
peeling the fruit, "After a few layers I came to leaves that had lost their stems and were flatly glued
to the ball. I used my fingernails to catch their edges and pull them off. Sheath after sheath of leaf
lifted, like the skins off an onion. I could simply have ripped the "fruit" apart – I still call it that for

effective in forcing the reader to focus, and put all their attention onto the step by step progression,
successfully setting the stage for the reader to come across what would be the climax of the scene.
Ultimately, in the creation of this important scene that changes the course of the novel, Yann Martel
uses literary techniques to bring out the its horrors, through his manipulation of the speed, by

The Tooth Fairy Essay
Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, & Truth in Parenting
The early childhood years are full of play, pretend and magical thinking. Young children put on
wings and take flight around preschool classrooms. They can be anyone they can imagine –
superheroes, princes & princesses, mommy, daddy, and even the dog or the cat. The magic will
gradually fade and they may have a few questions for you...
The Shift
Children cannot distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality like adults. They believe that
fantasy can be real because they do not know the limits of reality.[1] This limitless way to see the
world allows them to believe that anything can happen. For example, approximately 65% of
children ages have imaginary friends by the age of 7.[2] They may even get upset when we forget to
buckle their "friend" into the car. I remember my sister getting very upset when I seemed to
continuously sit on her imaginary friend in our living room. This lack of boundary between fantasy
and reality allows kids to believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny...until they
don't.

main cause of cavities is because the enamel breaks down and doesn't defend the tooth against
germs. Fluoride promotes stronger enamel, which protects the teeth from those oncoming

Interpreting Disorders: Understanding Dental Veneers
Understanding Dental Veneers
Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished you could enhance the color, shape, size, or length

So, what exactly are veneers, what problems do they fix, what is the process for applying them and
what advantages are associated with this solution? Read on to find out.
What are Veneers?
Dental veneers are very thin, customized shells that cover the front surfaces of teeth. Most are
created from porcelain or resin composite materials. There are benefits of both options:
Resin Composite – These are thinner and can be applied without having to remove as much enamel.
Porcelain – These are often more popular because they resist stains and more closely mimic the ...

Worn, Broken, or Misshapen Teeth – Instead of extracting worn, broken, or misshapen teeth to insert

Misaligned Teeth – Veneers can improve teeth alignment and also eliminate gaps between teeth.
Applying Dental Veneers
There are typically three dental visits involved when you're considering veneers:
Planning – When you are considering veneers, you should go to the dentist to determine if you're a
good candidate and, if so, to plan your treatment. During this visit, your dentist may take x–rays and
make impressions of your teeth to facilitate a discussion about what changes can be made with
veneers.
Preparing – To prepare your teeth for veneers, your dentist will shave approximately ½ millimeter of
enamel from your teeth's surfaces. After doing so, he or she will make an impression of each tooth

How to Treat a Stained Tooth Fissure
Introduction
The morphological configuration of the occlusal surface of the first permanent molar is the most
vulnerable and susceptible tooth surface to dental decay and the incidence of caries on these
surfaces is still rising. There are occasions where the fissures of these teeth are stained and at the
time of deciding the appropriate treatment the question arises whether we should or we should not
treat them. When there are dentists that think that seal over a stained fissure is the right treatment
choice, there is evidence suggested by others that a stained fissure should not be treated as a sound
fissure.
There are teeth with questionable or suspicious occlusal surfaces, in which we can notice that there
have been changes from the clear sound fissures even without loss of surface and it is dubious to
decide whether or not it should be treated as it could be an incipient but not cavitated fissure. A
stained fissure means a fissure that is discoloured, brown or black, even an area of white or opaque
enamel where its normal translucidency is lost but it has no evidence of surface breakdown
(cavitation). Discoloured fissures does not necessary indicate an active caries process and they may
represent sounds surfaces (where the discolouration descends from organic material trapped in the
fissure) or non–cavitated caries lesions (where the demineralised enamel has been stained and
possibly arrested).
It is doubtful if a discoloured fissure expresses generally a viable

Tooth Decay Is An Imbalance Of Mineral Loss And Replacement
Tooth Decay
Tooth decay is an imbalance of mineral loss and replacement within a tooth over time in response to
acid attacks on a daily basis. These acid attacks are a direct result of food and drink consumption
resulting in cavities and decay. The cavity and tooth decay process can be prevented by working
closely with a professional dentist and following a thorough at–home dental health routine. Eating
the correct foods at the right times and avoiding certain snacks can all help to prevent tooth decay.
So let's take a look at tooth decay and the actual process itself.

This series of attacks and rebuilds is much like a tug of war in your mouth. It's also a way of the
body protecting itself from everyday problems. In order to help prevent tooth decay we must first
understand it fully and a great way to begin is to look at each of the three main factors in closer
detail.
The three main factors in tooth decay
Food and Drink – when food and drink is consumed over an extended period of time between meals,
the balance between remineralisation and demineralisation can tip in favour of tooth decay. Sticky
foods such as caramel and raisins are particularly adept at causing acid attacks that become too
much for saliva to prevent and repair. Eating these foods during a meal however allows for the tug–
of–war scenario to become a winning situation for a person and their teeth. A scenario in which
tooth decay can occur rather rapidly happens to be when children are allowed to fall asleep with a
bottle. This can be the same if a bottle is given to them for them to carry around too. Whether it
contains milk, juice or another drink, bacteria can use them all to produce acids and this is known as
"baby bottle tooth decay". In order to help prevent tooth decay, you must limit the intake of sugary
and sticky foods along with sweetened beverages between your meals.
Bacteria in Plaque – plaque on your teeth should be removed by your toothbrush and floss everyday.

Summary Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress
Whether it be a result of the re–education or just coming of age, the Narrator in the novel Balzac and
the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie develops monumentally. In this passage, The Narrator
was caught retelling the tailor a story he had read. However, the headman put forth a proposition. If
Luo (the Narrator's friend) can fix his tooth, he will not report the Narrator to the Security Office.
The headman is both respected and feared yet in reality, he is quite vulnerable. This is proven during
his tooth procedure performed by Luo. The Narrator's reaction to the surgery reveals his desire to get
revenge on the headman. The passage starts out with an in–depth description of the headman's
extracted tooth. The fragile state of his tooth is espied along with the diagnosis of other health
complications, including a bout of syphilis. This manifests the fact that the headman physically is
not as tough as he appears to be. Sijie uses grotesque imagery like a storyteller would in order to
describe the headman's tooth. The tooth is described to resemble a "...jagged mountain range" with
"blackened inflamed gums" next to it were "tobacco–stained canines" and a "dark pulpy hole." This
vivid description unveils the fact that the headman is not all that beloved. A citizen would not
describe a leader he admired as having anything close to a "disgusting" feature. If the Narrator
valued the headman, he would not go into such great detail of how vulgar the molar was. This also

The author fails to provide any measures of spread like standard deviation or range of the population
he is talking about, say it could be 50 % of the population had 4 dental visits a year and rest of the
population had number between 0 to 2 visits and the could average turn out to be 1.25. The section
of the population who had 4 dental visits per year might have lower levels of tooth decay compared
to the children from Nepal and the section with 0 to 1 dental visit might contribute mostly for the
high level of tooth decay observed in the overall population. Thus claiming that regular dental care
is not helpful based on the numbers is flawed. Overall, the argument the author makes regarding the
ineffectiveness of dental care in preventing tooth decay is flawed because of differences between the
two groups he had chosen to compare and arrive at his conclusion. It can be even argued that
considering the diet habits and environmental factors in the United States without dental care the
level of tooth decay could be much worse than that of children in

  • 3. Tooth And Caw Analysis Tooth and Claw: Analytical Paper Tooth and Claw is a short story written by Tom Coraghessan Boyle. The phrase Tooth and Claw means one is struggling as hard as he can and making every effort possible. Junior is struggling and making an effort to overcome his past burdens and insecurities. The story is set in Santa Barbara, California. In the story Tooth and Claw, Junior wins a cat in a game of dice, from a irregular man named Ludwig. The cat is justified to be unmanageable. Shortly after, Daria tells Junior she is in a relationship. Daria leaves Junior to take care of the cat alone. Junior gets frustrated and decides to free the cat. Irony, Setting, and Characters are presented in this short story which make it very remarkable. First, the irony that is presented in the story is presented when Junior moved to the coast to achieve excitement to his life. He only receives pleasure working or hanging at Daggetts. Junior despises drunkards and has no intention of becoming a drunkard himself, yet hypothetically, he allocates much of this time drinking at Daggetts. An example of how this is clearly shown is when the reader claims, "I wasn't stupid. And I had no intention of becoming a drunk like all the hard–assed old men in the shopping mall blighted town I had grew up in. . . and Daggett's was the only place I felt comfortable. . . because it was filled with old men drinking themselves into oblivion" (62).This example explains why this is so important because he references ... • 5. My Tooth Fairy Speech Mommy, how do I kill the tooth fairy? I hated the tooth fairy. Okay, I still hate the tooth fairy. But I mean come on! A small, winged person comes into your room while you're sleeping and exchanges a piece of your body for money. I'm pretty sure that's only legal in Nevada. When I first discovered this mythical creature, I was four, and had a newly loose tooth. "The tooth fairy will be coming tonight," my mother said. Girl was lying to me; I did not believe one word that lying witch uttered. So... I did what any normal four year old would do: I broke into my parent's' wallet and marked all of their dollar bills with a highlighter. And guess what? I woke up with highlighted bill under my pillow. Who woulda thunk? I ran into my parents bedroom screaming "I HAVE PROOF, I HAVE PROOF! THE TOOTH FAIRY IS FAKE AND YOU LIED TO ME!" And I was right... and broke; never got another cent from the tooth fairy. Yet, that fateful day, I learned the most important word of my life; my mother looked at me with a whimsical glance and said, "My curious boy." I don't know why she talks like that. But that word, curious, stuck with me. Curiosity instigates change, governs the governors. Yet, our curiosity is fading, and the consequences are evident. From indifference to stagnation, we aren't asking questions. That's just it, isn't it? To question is to know, and knowledge is a prerequisite to informed decision making. Therefore, it is necessary to examine our fading curiosity and its effects. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Causes And Disadvantages Of Tooth Discoloration A recent survey has found that 80% of Americans aged eighteen to forty–nine want their teeth whiter (Lisa Vernon–Sparks 2010). According to the American Association of Orthodontists, they have found that 90% of their patients request tooth whitening (Mouth Healthy 2013). Numerous toothpaste companies claim their brand of toothpaste can whiten teeth the best, but can they really? Top toothpaste brands include Colgate Optic Whitening Toothpaste, 3D Crest White Luxe Toothpaste, AP–24, Arm & Hammer Advance White Toothpaste, Sensodyne Pronamel Whitening Toothpaste, and many more. Overall AP–24 Toothpaste has the best whitening result on ceramic tile. What is the tooth discoloration? The main causes of tooth discoloration is antibiotics, genetics, certain foods, and aging. • 13. Tooth Discoloration Essay Tooth discoloration is extrinsic or intrinsic i.e. may be restricted to the outer layer (enamel) or may involve the deeper layer (dentin) of the tooth. Various factors like genes, poor oral hygiene, smoking, consumption of food substances like tea, coffee, wine, cranberries, etc. and even aging are the common culprits behind the tooth discoloration. The stains on the teeth can also stain your life negatively. You may suffer from low self–esteem and self–rejection due to the failure in securing a job or because of a broken relationship. Some but not all states have changed laws and regulations to ban all non dentists, hygienists and assistants from teeth whitening procedures. • 17. Experience With The Tooth Fairy I have had too many experiences with the paranormal not to believe that there is something more going on than meets the eye. One of my biggest scares from when I was young was an experience with the Tooth Fairy – or what I thought was the Tooth Fairy. After this experience, I don't ever remember putting a tooth under my pillow again. The fear of what might have come into my already terrifying room was likely too scary to me. My Tooth Fairy Didn't Feel This Cute My Childhood Bedroom Was Terrifying Before I tell you what happened with the Tooth Fairy, let me make it clear that my bedroom was terrifying to me. I was so scared every single night that I would say the following prayer: Please don't let me hear anything, feel anything, see anything, touch anything, or sense anything. I would repeat it over and over until something scary happened or until I fell asleep. I also slept with a pillow over my head to try and drown out any noise – a habit I haven't gotten rid of yet. The general procedure for cavity restoration consists of filling the cleaned tooth with either silver amalgam or white composite, but from time to time a dentist will recommend replacing a damaged tooth with a dental crown. But how do you know if you might need one? Cracked Tooth A tooth can crack for numerous reasons: grinding the teeth, biting hard foods, an injury, and/or natural wear and tear. Indications of a possible crack are temperature sensitivity or pain while biting. Principle 2: In the abutment teeth adjacent to the tooth and tissue supported edentulous spaces (Kennedy Class I & II and long span Class III & IV): –RPI (mesial rest, distal proximal plate, and buccal I–bar) design is the clasp of choice. – If use of I–bar in vestibule, because of ... Some clinicians feel that the canine teeth should be clasped with cast infrabulge retainers (bar clasps) since these teeth are relatively unsupported against mesially directed forces. It is reasoned that wrought clasps are too flexible and will not resist such movement. –When there is marked mobility of one or more of the abutments, the use of stress–releasing direct retainers becomes more important. Stress relieving clasp assemblies allow release of the tooth and therefore, result in more of load being transferred to the denture base tissues. –I–bars should gently curve from the gridwork and originate from the gridwork approximately one tooth posterior to the replacement tooth adjacent to the abutment. Do not use L–bars (less flexible). 6– Designing the indirect retainer Class I and Class II partial dentures often require indirect retainers. These should be as far from the primary fulcrum line as possible (90°), and placed on the opposite side of the fulcrum line from the denture base. They are normally not required for tooth–borne RPD's. They must be placed on a rest seat prepared on an abutment tooth that is capable of withstanding the forces placed on it. • 24. Relativity Of Truth In Life Of Pi Life of Pi: The Relativity of Truth The relativity of truth refers to truth relativism, which is the doctrine that there are no absolute truths. The truth is always relative to some particular frame of reference. An example of truth relativism is the "The Dress" trend which went viral because viewers disagreed over whether the colors of the dress were black and blue or gold and white. Because of how a human perceives the color, it could be either of these colors based on how a person sees it. The relativity of truth in the Life of Pi includes and refers to "the Blind Frenchman", the algae island, and which story Pi told the interviewers was true. To begin, when Pi went blind in chapter 90 and practically gave up on surviving, he heard a voice. "It's astonishing what you hear when you're alone in the blackness of your dying mind." (Martel, Pg 242). To people, this could refer to Pi hearing an actual person or it could just be a figment of his imagination. " Misery loves company, and madness calls it forth." (Martel, Pg 242). This adds to the theory that the voice Pi heard was just a figment of his imagination. Further on in the novel, Pi "meets" and "speaks" to "the Blind Frenchman" after figuring out that it wasn't Richard Parker he was talking to. Later on, Richard Parker "killed" the Frenchman and Pi explored his boat, finding out that the Frenchman had lied to him about having food. What doesn't add up is that Pi regained his eyesight two days after the Frenchman's "murder" and when he went to check out the dead man's boat, he was still blind. This could mean that Pi didn't actually go on the Frenchman's boat but was actually exploring his boat and that the man was a figment of his imagination to suppress the loneliness Pi was feeling. Furthermore, in chapter 92, Pi discovers an algae island with food to eat and land to settle on. Pi stated " ...that the island was not an island in the conventional sense of the term–that is, a small landmass rooted to the floor of the ocean–but was rather a free–floating organism..."(Martel, Pg 271–272). One could assume that this wasn't an actual island, but something that Pi made up to add depth to the story he was telling or this was an island that has never been ... With no intention of stopping, the biggest puppy I've ever seen in my life ran head first hitting the top of my mouth¬―chipping my tooth. The puppy's name was Bruno. A big brown playful puppy with a line of white fur running from the middle of his eyes to the top of his nose on his face. I loved Bruno, but he was not the first pitbull puppy that I've had. When I was in Idyllwild on a family trip to play in the snow one day, we stopped at a convenience store to get something to snack on and drink. When we walked inside there was a man walking around trying to sell a pitbull puppy with faint black spots hidden behind his fuzzy white fur. It was close to my step brother's birthday at the time, and he wanted the puppy as an early birthday present. My step brother, Nathaniel, wasn't the only one who wanted that puppy. In truth, the rest of my family on this trip also wanted the puppy. As we left Idyllwild that day, we left with one more puppy than we came with. At the time, the puppy's name was Carlitos, but we decided to name him Rosco instead. Rosco rarely wanted to play with me because he loved my step brother so much more than he did me, or anyone else for that matter. In fact, Nathaniel was the only person who Rosco would run around and jump on whenever he was in his presence. I wished that Rosco would play with me just as much as he did with my step brother, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The roots of teeth are embedded in the maxilla (upper jaw) or the mandible (lower jaw) and are covered by gums. Teeth are made of multiple tissues of varying density and hardness. Teeth are among the most distinctive (and long–lasting) features of mammal species. Humans, like other mammals, are diphyodont, meaning that they develop two sets of teeth. The first set (also called the "baby", "milk", "primary", and "deciduous" set) normally starts to appear at about six months of age, although some babies are born with one or more visible teeth, known as neonatal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Depending on the extent of tooth destruction, various treatments can be used to restore teeth to proper form, function, and aesthetics, but there is no known method to regenerate large amounts of tooth structure. Instead, dental health organizations advocate preventive and prophylactic measures, such as regular oral hygiene and dietary modifications, to avoid dental caries. Causes There are four main criteria required for caries formation: a tooth surface (enamel or dentin); caries– causing bacteria; fermentable carbohydrates (such as sucrose); and time. The caries process does not have an inevitable outcome, and different individuals will be susceptible to different degrees depending on the shape of their teeth, oral hygiene habits, and the buffering capacity of their saliva. Dental caries can occur on any surface of a tooth that is exposed to the oral cavity, but not the structures that are retained within the bone. All caries occurs from acid demineralization that exceeds saliva and fluoride remineralization, and almost all acid demineralization occurs where food (containing carbohydrate like sugar) is left on teeth. Though most trapped food is left between teeth, over 80% of cavities occur inside pits and fissures on chewing surfaces where brushing, fluoride, and saliva cannot reach to remineralize the tooth as they do on easy–to–reach surfaces that develop few cavities. In many ways each tooth can be affected by liquids, but how much can the tooth take from one kind of liquid. Now how much caffeine, acid, and sugar must be used in these liquids to erode or stain your teeth and how hot and cold does it have to break them.. The items I am using is coffee, tea, non–caffeine soda, diet soda, and normal soda. One thing I saw alike in coffee, tea, diet soda, and normal soda, is that they all include caffeine. Caffeine is one out of many types of items that stain your teeth.Caffeine also causes your teeth to become more sensitive. Sensitivity is a very important to erode teeth this is because acids could come in and easily break your teeth. Another acid that is in most of these liquids is citric acid this acid is another way the tooth erodes easier. The reasoning behind this is that citric acid could move inside the softer area of your tooth, inner layer of the tooth or dentin. This process allows significant sensitivity on you teeth. This process not only erodes the tooth it also dissolves your teeth. This then allows the liquid to erode more easily and quicker. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So without sugar the acids that are used to erode your teeth would not be produced and reproduce multiple times. This also causes conditions such as tooth pain and sensitivity. Sugar also includes a part in causing plaque this is because as the sugar and bacteria mix and create acid some parts of the bacteria are left on the your teeth, this is how plaque is made. In order to prepare for the experiment, research was conducted for information about teeth, how teeth are similar to eggshells, how sugar affects the teeth, the amount of sugar in selected drinks, and the MOHS Scale. Tooth decay is the ruin of the outer surface (enamel) of the tooth. The enamel is the thin outer covering of the tooth. Responsible for the protection of the teeth, the enamel is the hardest tissue in the human body. Tooth erosion occurs when this surface is worn away by acidic substances. Teeth and bird eggs are similar because both are made from calcium compounds. The tooth enamel is made from calcium phosphate, which is any variety of phosphates of calcium. The egg shell contains calcium carbonate, which is CaCo3 . These are alike because both contain composites of calcium, but are not actually pure components of it. So when the MOHS scale is performed, the egg and teeth get damaged in similar ways. The MOHS scale of hardness is an essential part of this experiment. This method was invented by a German mineralogist, Frederich Mohs (1773–1839) in 1812. The purpose of the Mohs scale is to identify the hardness of materials and minerals using items that can be found in a classroom. The MOHS scale is done using a scale to measure the hardness of a material by the resistance to scratching. The process is to apply slight pressure to the object being tested (an egg in this case) using an item like a nail or coin, and pull the item along the surface of the object. If there is a scratch, then that is the hardness of the object. However, if there is only some residue from the object being scratched, then that is not considered the hardness. To check if there is a scratch or residue, gently wipe off the area. If the mark remains, then it is a scratch, not just residue. These are easy to get confused. Make sure to perform the test again in a different area to check the results to make sure they are accurate. There are different items used to test this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When they eat those foods, the bacteria create an acid that attacks tooth enamel and causes decay. The acids that cause tooth demineralization (cavity formation) are produced by specific types of bacteria (mutans streptococci and lactobacilli) that live in dental plaque. These bacteria are living organisms just like we are. When we consume foods and beverages, we create waste products. Bacteria do the same thing. The bacteria that cause tooth decay utilize sugars (glucose, sucrose, fructose, lactose, or cooked starches) as their food source. The waste products created from digesting these sugars are the acids (especially lactic acid) that cause the demineralization of tooth enamel and dentin. Since the bacteria that live in our mouth eat when we do, as we ingest foods which contain sugars (such as soda, candy, milk, and even fruits and vegetables) these bacteria get a meal too. And within minutes they start producing the acids that cause tooth decay. Bacteria that are exposed to sugars or carbohydrates can make acid, which attacks the crystal–like substance in the tooth's outer surface. This process is known as demineralization. The first sign of this is a chalky white spot. Acid formation, and hence tooth demineralization, begins within minutes of the bacteria receiving a sugary meal. It can take up to several hours for saliva to penetrate the layer of dental plaque and neutralize these acids. At this stage, the decay process can be reversed. Using ... This factor could be caused by the fact that Whitening mouth rinses contain a lower percentage of hydrogen peroxide. Listerine Whitening contains 2% of hydrogen peroxide and Plax Whitening contains 1.5%. Additionally, how acidic the mouth rise is can determine the whitening effect of the mouthwash. If the mouthwash is to acidic it can cause the shade of the teeth to become darker over time. Another factor that researchers has stated that can affect the whitening effect of whitening mouthwashes is the exposure time. Traditionally several options are indicated in order to restore the edentulous space including implant/crown, fixed partial dentures (FPD) or removable partial denture (RPD). However economic factors, occlusal disturbances, lack of adequate bone support or excessive removal of healthy dental structure are some of the limiting factors in the traditional treatment modalities. One approach that is overlooked and may serve as a good treatment modality is the Fiber Reinforced Composite Bridge (FRCB). FRCBs are minimally invasive and economic treatment modalities that can be utilized to replace of a missing tooth and restore an edentulous space. The ideal site for a conservative FRCB is an edentulous space spanning one to two teeth. Other considerations include occlusion or the bite relation, periodontal status, oral hygiene, and the status of abutment teeth. It should be noted that this modality of treatment is the not the most ideal modaility of treatment however, it does provide an alternative approach if the ideal modality (Implant/Crown, FPD, RPD) is not accepted or acceptable. • 59. How to Treat a Stained Tooth Fissure Introduction The morphological configuration of the occlusal surface of the first permanent molar is the most vulnerable and susceptible tooth surface to dental decay and the incidence of caries on these surfaces is still rising. There are occasions where the fissures of these teeth are stained and at the time of deciding the appropriate treatment the question arises whether we should or we should not treat them. When there are dentists that think that seal over a stained fissure is the right treatment choice, there is evidence suggested by others that a stained fissure should not be treated as a sound fissure. There are teeth with questionable or suspicious occlusal surfaces, in which we can notice that there have been changes from the clear sound fissures even without loss of surface and it is dubious to decide whether or not it should be treated as it could be an incipient but not cavitated fissure. A stained fissure means a fissure that is discoloured, brown or black, even an area of white or opaque enamel where its normal translucidency is lost but it has no evidence of surface breakdown (cavitation). Discoloured fissures does not necessary indicate an active caries process and they may represent sounds surfaces (where the discolouration descends from organic material trapped in the fissure) or non–cavitated caries lesions (where the demineralised enamel has been stained and possibly arrested). It is doubtful if a discoloured fissure expresses generally a viable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Should Teeth Whitening Be Allowed In Salons What is teeth whitening? Teeth whitening is the process of using bleach or other materials to make the teeth appear whiter. The materials remove stains or other discoloration from the tooth surface. The main concern of everyone, is should it be allowed outside of a dental office or not. There are articles upon articles, debating whether teeth whitening should be allowed in salons or kiosks, and dental offices. In my opinion, they shouldn't be allowed outside of the dental office, for a number of reasons, which will later be explained. "We do not know about what level of sterilization and disinfection is being done. You're dealing with something that is totally unregulated," Dr. Leslie Seldin said. In the article, "Tooth Whitening–– A Safe, Affordable Way to Improve Your Smile," Improper fitting mouth trays may hold your jaws too far apart and cause potential jaw problems. Improperly fitting mouth trays may also leak, causing possible gum irritation and less effective bleaching. Dentists can also monitor the process of bleaching. They can vary the level of bleach used to minimize or avert any type of discomfort. While in at OTC kit, you get a concentrated amount of bleach, that can't be altered and most likely a "one size fits all" mouth tray. The New Jersey Dental Association sued Beach Bum, due to alleging unfair competition and accusing the tanning chain of practicing illegal dentistry. Some dentists were able to prevail, and block salons from providing teeth whitening in 2009. Since the gel was applied in the store, it constituted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyone makes mistakes every once in a while that might change their life. Back in third grade I lived in a suburb of Chicago called Yorkville. I had two friends that were sisters that lived across the street, Ashley and April, that were probably two or three years younger than me and also twins. Ashley, April and I all were playing in my driveway and I was a dog so I would follow them around the driveway. It was hard for me to keep up with them since I was on all fours. • 67. Tooth Decay Is An Imbalance Of Mineral Loss And Replacement Tooth Decay Tooth decay is an imbalance of mineral loss and replacement within a tooth over time in response to acid attacks on a daily basis. These acid attacks are a direct result of food and drink consumption resulting in cavities and decay. The cavity and tooth decay process can be prevented by working closely with a professional dentist and following a thorough at–home dental health routine. Eating the correct foods at the right times and avoiding certain snacks can all help to prevent tooth decay. So let's take a look at tooth decay and the actual process itself. Tooth decay is the formation of cavities or dental caries as they're also known. The process involves three major factors including food and/or beverages consumed, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This series of attacks and rebuilds is much like a tug of war in your mouth. It's also a way of the body protecting itself from everyday problems. In order to help prevent tooth decay we must first understand it fully and a great way to begin is to look at each of the three main factors in closer detail. The three main factors in tooth decay Food and Drink – when food and drink is consumed over an extended period of time between meals, the balance between remineralisation and demineralisation can tip in favour of tooth decay. Sticky foods such as caramel and raisins are particularly adept at causing acid attacks that become too much for saliva to prevent and repair. Eating these foods during a meal however allows for the tug– of–war scenario to become a winning situation for a person and their teeth. A scenario in which tooth decay can occur rather rapidly happens to be when children are allowed to fall asleep with a bottle. This can be the same if a bottle is given to them for them to carry around too. Whether it contains milk, juice or another drink, bacteria can use them all to produce acids and this is known as "baby bottle tooth decay". In order to help prevent tooth decay, you must limit the intake of sugary and sticky foods along with sweetened beverages between your meals. Bacteria in Plaque – plaque on your teeth should be removed by your toothbrush and floss everyday. Usually, in the majority of cases a clean tooth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Summary Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress Whether it be a result of the re–education or just coming of age, the Narrator in the novel Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie develops monumentally. In this passage, The Narrator was caught retelling the tailor a story he had read. However, the headman put forth a proposition. If Luo (the Narrator's friend) can fix his tooth, he will not report the Narrator to the Security Office. The headman is both respected and feared yet in reality, he is quite vulnerable. This is proven during his tooth procedure performed by Luo. The Narrator's reaction to the surgery reveals his desire to get revenge on the headman. The passage starts out with an in–depth description of the headman's extracted tooth. The fragile state of his tooth is espied along with the diagnosis of other health complications, including a bout of syphilis. This manifests the fact that the headman physically is not as tough as he appears to be. Sijie uses grotesque imagery like a storyteller would in order to describe the headman's tooth. The tooth is described to resemble a "...jagged mountain range" with "blackened inflamed gums" next to it were "tobacco–stained canines" and a "dark pulpy hole." This vivid description unveils the fact that the headman is not all that beloved. A citizen would not describe a leader he admired as having anything close to a "disgusting" feature. If the Narrator valued the headman, he would not go into such great detail of how vulgar the molar was. This also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The author compares children living in the Himalayan mountain region of Nepal who receive little to no professional dental care with people who live in suburbs of United Sates who receive greater dental care and points out that children from mountain region of Nepal has lover levels of tooth decay compared to the people from united states. First of all, comparing tooth decay levels of children with (author fails to define the age group children ) with that of general population of broader age group is flawed as children have healthy and strong teeth and better immunity to ward of any tooth decay compared to older groups like octogenarians who have frail tooth ... The section of the population who had 4 dental visits per year might have lower levels of tooth decay compared to the children from Nepal and the section with 0 to 1 dental visit might contribute mostly for the high level of tooth decay observed in the overall population. Thus claiming that regular dental care is not helpful based on the numbers is flawed. Overall, the argument the author makes regarding the ineffectiveness of dental care in preventing tooth decay is flawed because of differences between the two groups he had chosen to compare and arrive at his conclusion. It can be even argued that considering the diet habits and environmental factors in the United States without dental care the level of tooth decay could be much worse than that of children in ...
