most? Why? Given the obesity issues in the American consumers, the food industry has benefited
from this trend. Under the Societal Marketing Concept organizations have to balance company
profits, customers ' wants and the society 's interests. The problem is to determine what is best for

Personal Statement For Food Science
From a young age, I have always wanted to know how and why the things around me work. Science
was one of my more well–liked subjects throughout my schooling years. I am able to excel in these
subjects because I have developed a strong interest in them and I enjoy the process of learning new
things. I have always wanted to go to university to study a science–based subject. While browsing
through the variety of courses available in your university, I came across "Food Science" and it
caught my attention. That was when I knew it would be the right course for me.
I have always enjoyed baking and cooking, as a result, I often bake with my family members. This
means that I do have some prior knowledge of importance of nutritional values, convenience, safety
and shelf life of foods. Food Science has actually been integrated into our everyday lives, and that is
what makes it so appealing to me. The food industry is one of the largest industries in the world and
I am eager to be part of this important industry, researching on how to produce food that is of better
quality. Research that has previously been done by Food scientists have largely contributed to the
higher quality of life experienced in many countries today, as compared to that of previous decades.

There were neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia where residents couldn't easily buy healthy
foods like fruits and vegetables. And science shows us that people who live in these underserved
neighborhoods are more at risk for serious diet–related diseases like obesity(Food Trust website).
They began with one farmers market at Tasker Homes, a public housing development in South
Philadelphia. Once a week, with the help of the Tasker Homes Tenant Council, they set up one long
table overflowing with produce. It happened to be the only source of fresh fruits and vegetables in

policymakers in Philadelphia and across the country to change how we all think about healthy food

In this paper I will discuss Erik Erickson's eight stages of Psychosocial Development. My paper will

Erik Erikson came up with the Eight Stages of Psychosocial Development for people to figure out

Recently at our high school there has been controversy over the topic of open campus. Is this a good
idea? Letting growing adults off on their own well–being is a horrible idea. These students should
be watched at all times and monitored. The food provided by our school is government approved
and good for nutrition. But, of course if we have students off on their own they won't come back to
school. School is meant to be a safe and educational place for all students. Food and drinks located
at school are healthy and state approved. If these students don't eat our food they'll eat greasy and

During the Great Depression, schools began to provide lunch programs for school students, since
many homes could not afford to feed their children a full, well–balanced meal (Hinman 16).
Throughout the past eighty years the budgets, regulations, and policies have been changed multiple
times. Whether or not these changes are helpful, are up for debate, and are topics many school
boards and legislative bodies are forced to discuss. Some of the most controversial topics being
discussed are the cost students pay, the quality of the food, the amount of food going to waste, and
the obesity rate of students. The lunches that are served in schools are typically over priced, made of
poor quality, thrown away, and is one of the leading causes to the increasing obesity rates. Two
dollars and seventy–five cents is the average price students pay unless they are receiving free or
reduced lunches. The issue with these prices is that only a small fraction of students are paying the
full amount while everyone else around them is getting cut a deal by the government. Majority of
students get free or reduced lunches based on their families income and poverty level (Hinman 18).
The federal government provides approximately $9.8 billion to the federal school lunch program to
feed approximately 50 million students a lunch every day. Most of the money provided goes
towards feeding the students from low–income families that qualify for free or reduced lunches

Skipping Dessert
When I was younger, I vividly remember the vast amount of delicious food that was offered every
day in my school lunchroom. The food that I use to describe as "good" food, I am beginning to
undoubtedly recognise for the unhealthy junk that it actually is. There are countless others who also
notice how horrible these foods are to feed children in school cafeterias. Today, those same
cafeterias are tremendously different from the ones I remember from when I was little, and they are
always continuously changing. The amount of options we are offered have not lessened, they have
simply changed. Instead of having the option to purchase nachos, we now are given the option of
baked fries. Also, instead of having a dessert of an innutritious brownie, we now are given a large
variety of sweet fruits to choose from instead. While some students distinguish these changes as a
catastrophe, I can understand the importance of having students skip dessert during a school lunch.
Allowing the NSLP to regulate what is served in school lunches would help parents trust that their
children would be getting healthier foods at school, help to combat the epidemic of obesity and
malnutrition in the United States, and assist in educating children on healthy diet choices.

Milton Hershey School is a school for orphans in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Hershey created Hershey
trust company as sole to trustee for the school. The school owned 33% of Hershey Foods
Corporation shares.
In 2002 the Hershey trust company board decided to sell school shares from Hershey stock. The
board wanted to sell the 33% of Hershey shares at premium and reinvest the money in another

The Massachusetts Public Health Association is a non–profit founded in 1879, and aims to focus on
preventative policies for vulnerable disparities in health (MPHA, 2015). The mission of the

them, and they would give it. Than most of the time that car would be bought. It might be because
parents trust their kids will make a wise decision given the options. Even if it is because they only
trust their kids, it may not be intellectual to believe your child will make a positive decision, when
they may not have been thought on the subject. More importantly, technology is being spent on and
maybe wasted because of the decisions of children. "$211 billion and so much to buy" says 34% of
children and teens influenced their phone purchasing decision. Also in an article by Richard Satran,
he says that the average American will spend about 17 percent of their monthly mortgage or rent on
technology that children chose . Most of this technology goes to children, who will mostly use the

Research Proposal: Consumer Trust in the Food Industry
I. Convenience. Many Americans don't know what they would do without the convenience of
everyday life in America. The Food Industry is at the helm of this simple lifestyle. If you 're hungry,
you go to the supermarket and buy what you want. You don't need to worry about hunting for meat
or growing and harvesting plants. Now, all of the hard work involved in obtaining and producing
food is the responsibility of food corporations. In their sophisticated factories, they raise animals
and grow plants, they take care of the hard work and we enjoy the simplicity of supermarket
choices. However, is it such a good idea to place so much blind trust in these companies? Literally
every piece of food we buy at a supermarket, or restaurant comes from one or more large
corporations. Unless you buy food from a local farm, or grow it yourself, you are eating the
products of a company's hard working employees. I've noticed over the past few years that a certain
stigma has started to surround these food producing companies. Monsanto is almost always in the
news and someone is always protesting some food company because of what they may or may not
have done. The root of this stigma seems to be the result of consumer trust. Every day seems to
bring some food related issue to the forefront of every news outlet. I propose a research project in

INTRODUCTION
Born into a poor, lower–class family, Milton S. Hershey dropped out of school before reaching the
fourth grade. He developed an interest in becoming a confectioner. He believed there would be great
demand for affordable, mass–produced chocolate, and thus he built the Hershey Chocolate
Company. Hershey's is now the largest producer of quality chocolates in North America and a global
leader in chocolate and sugar confectionery. Although he enjoyed making money, Milton S. Hershey

This legacy of educating disadvantaged children from the community would affect our thinking as
members of the Hershey Trust Company's board of trustees. It may be viewed as a bias in our
decision–making where we may favor protecting the endowment of the Milton Hershey School over
protecting the equally important interests of the Hershey Foods Corporation and the Hershey,
Pennsylvania community in general.
Is diversification a valid reason to sell HFC? How would such diversification have served the
Hershey School 10 years ago, for example? What are the pros and cons of this strategy?
We believe that diversification of an investment portfolio alone is not a valid reason to sell Hershey
Foods Corporation in this case. Ten years ago, there would have been few benefits for the Hershey
School with the sale of the Hershey Foods Corporation stock. These benefits include a price
advantage on the sale of the stock and a short–term monetary gain for the endowment fund. Another
benefit is that the Hershey Trust Company's investment portfolio would be less concentrated in
Hershey stock, which in theory may be to their advantage if the Hershey stock were to suddenly
