Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing
commitment by business to behave ethically and
contribute to economic development while improving the
quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as
of the local community and society at large.

Grameenphone is the largest mobile phone operator in the
country.
It is a joint venture enterprise betweenTelenor and Grameen
Telecom Corporation, a non-profit sister concern of Grameen
Bank.
With the slogan Go Beyond, Grameenphone promises its
customers to bring the best of communication technologies so
that they can Go Beyond.

MOTHERHOOD
& INFANTCARE
PROJECT
Bangladesh has maternal mortality rates (32 per
10,000) and infant mortality rates (52 per 1,000).
To nurture a healthy and prosperous nation safe
motherhood is necessary.
In partnership with Pathfinder International and
through USAID’s network of Smiling Sun clinics
GP is working on it. In 61 districts, free primary
healthcare services are being provided by health
professionals .

6. FREE EYECARE
SUPPORT
o Bangladesh has the highest number of blind people
in terms of its population. There are about 750,000
adults and 40,000 children, who live blind.
o With a mission to combat blindness, Grameenphone,
in partnership with Sight savers International,
organizes free eye-care camps in different parts of
the country where eye-care services are not readily
available.

7. FIGHTAGAINST
HIV/AIDS
Bangladesh government is determined to halt the
spread of HIV and AIDS by 2015.
Grameenphone is committed to work closely with
Bangladesh Government and concerned development
agencies to achieve that target, with the aim to
raise awareness and advocate for necessary policy
reforms on HIV/AIDS through different communication
channels.

8. BLOOD BANK
oSafe blood transfusion is one of the most important
pre-conditions for health safety.
oGrameenphone launched a full-fledged blood bank at
a Community hospital in Bogra. This is the first and the
largest blood bank in the northern region of the country
funded by a private organization.
oBrought the northern people under this opportunity.

BRAC Bank was founded on 4 July 2001 as a private
commercial bank focused on Small and Medium Enterprises
(SME).

Today, the bank has 88 Branches, 21 SME Service Centers,
48 SME/Krishi Branches, over 300 ATMs and 400 SME Unit
offices across the country. It has disbursed over BDT 220,139
million of SME loan and has over 1,200,000 individual
customers who access online banking facilities. Its services
cuts across all strata of clientele, be it corporate, retail or
SME.

Scholarship: ‘BRAC Bank-ProthomAlo Trust AdamyaMedhabi
Scholarship’ was introduced in 2010 to assist meritorious
student of insolvent families fulfill their pursuit of higher
education. BRAC Bank would be with the students in their
entire study life. With the scholarship, many students are now
studying in BUET, Medical, Dhaka University and other
reputed institutes. A total of 224 students have so far availed
the scholarship.

15. HEALTH
Facilitating higher education in nursing at BSMMU: BRAC
Bank Limited has extended support for facilitating higher
education in medical nursing at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib
Medical University (BSMMU). This little support may go a
long way for development of professional nursing in the
country.

16. SOCIAL WELFARE
Standing beside Savar victims: BRAC Bank stood beside the
victims and families of Savar building collapse incident.
BRAC Bank has donated Tk. 1 crore to Prime Minister’s
Relief Fund for rehabilitation of Savar victims. Other
initiatives include blood donation, donation of one day salary
by all employees, medicines for emergency treatment,
assistance for emergency surgery

BRAC Bank continoues to expand its solar
power capacity as it has brought ner SME
Offices under the renewable energy as part of
its commitment to the bank has completed
installation of solar panels in 149 SME Unit
Offices as of in 2013. The bank is committed to
bring all 400 SME Unit Offices under solar
energy .

18. ART & CULTURE
BRAC Bank-SamakalShahityaPuroshkar 2012 has started for
second year to inspire writers for their creative works and
enrich Bangla literature. BRAC Bank Limited and Daily
Samakal have teamed up to launch the literary award to
inspire writers and litterateurs to further enhance treasure of
Bangla literature.

19. YOUNG LEADERSHIP
Iconic summiteer WasfiaNazreen has conquered the
highest peak of Antarctica as first Bangladeshi
national. As part of the fourth leg of her “Bangladesh
on Seven Summits” campaign, she successfully
climbed Mount Vinson of Antarctica. BRAC Bank and
BRAC Bank subsidiaries along with BRAC have
extended support for her expedition of the highest
mountain of the South Pole .

21. Robi contributes several sectors as a social
contributor in our country and I focus on 5
things:-

22. Basic Computer Knowledge for the students of 72 colleges in
64 districts where Robi has already implemented Computer
Corners to increase IT literacy among the students of rural and
semi-urban areas.
Robi employees visit the colleges to conduct day long Basic
Computer training. The initiative has started from March 01,
2012. The 1st phase has finished on December 26, 2012.

23. Reaching 1000 schools, 64 districts, 7 million students, and
10,000 teachers
It is the biggest ever CSR project in Robi's history. This project
lies on the extremely low English literacy rate (not more than
1%). A huge number of 'drop out' from schools is also poor
performance in English. 3 years long project 1,000 secondary
schools are being covered. All these schools are being delivered
3 copies of The Daily Star for 5 days every week free of cost
and also given a supplementary ‘English in Schools Content
Page.

24. With the support of Department of Public Libraries has established ICT at all 7
divisional public libraries with the objective of giving opportunity to all to know the
benefits of internet. By useing users will be able to explore the world.

25. Robi Nirapod Pani, Shusto Jibon.
Safe drinking water facility for railway passengers at different divisional
railway stations.
The tank capacity of 5,000 liter of safe drinking water per hour to meet thirst
of more than 55 thousands passengers daily.
There are separate water taps kept for male, female, one is disabled people and
ablution.

27. Under Robi’s CSR pillar Environment this initiative has changed and having a
positive impact on the socio economic development of the local people.
The project has in truer sense has illuminated their daily life and given them an
opportunity to change their lifestyle and be in touch with one of the best discovery of
the modern technology

28. This organized an art competition for children of its Dhaka
based employees on Saturday, June 9, 2012. It was organized
in the World Environment Day 2012.
The theme of the contest was “Rong Tulite Amar Prithibi” and
the children drew pictures as they would want it to be.
About 80 children, aged between 5 to 14 participated in the art
competition and a magic show performed by popular magician
Ulfat kabir.

30. Scholarships
Education is a pre-requisite for the overall
development of the country. Dutch-Bangla Bank
Limited (DBBL) has been awarding the largest number
of scholarships in Bangladesh for the meritorious and
needy students. DBBL spend 1.2 core taka yearly in
scholarship sector.

31. Assistance to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital
An amount of Taka 93,600,000.00 was donated to
Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital for setting up a Cath Lab, two
Operation Theatres with facilities for Liver & Kidney
Transplantation and Heart Surgery.

32. Assistance to Acid Victims
Since 2000, DBBL launched massive campaign against social
menaces like acid violence through print & electronic media.
Subsequently, DBBL has taken a financial support program to
rehabilitate the helpless acid victim women of the country by
maintaining small scale agro-based rural enterprises like
poultry, vegetable farming, goat farming, fish farming etc.
Under this program, 351 acid victims already received
financial support at the rate of Taka 10,000.00 (Taka ten
thousand) each to become self-reliant.

33. Prevention of drug abuse
An amount of Taka 1,00,00,000.00 (Taka one core) was
donated to APON to establish the first comprehensive drug
rehabilitation centre in Bangladesh named "APONGAON" at
Singair, Manikganj.

34. Rural Medicare Service Center
DBBL has established 10 Rural Medicare Service Centers at
its rural branches to render free medical services to the
rural and destitute people of the adjoining areas especially
for the women and children.

35. Assistance to Thengamara Mohila
Sabuj Sangha
Taka 10,00,000.00 (Taka ten lac) was donated to
Thengamara Mohila Sabuj Sangha for modernizing the
Operation Theater of Rafatullah Community Hospital,
Bogra.

36. Saving the Nation from the curse of Dowry
Since 2000, DBBL initiated massive campaign against
dowry culture through print & electronic media to restore
hope & dignity in lives of dowry victims. DBBL has been
extending financial assistance to the helpless dowry victim
women by setting up agro-based rural enterprises like
poultry, vegetable farming, goat farming, fish farming etc.
Under this program, 800 dowry victims already received
financial support at the rate of Tk. 10,000.00 (taka ten
thousand) each to become self-reliant.

37. Financial assistance to meet natural disaster
The Bank's foundation undertakes a number of programs
arising out of the natural calamities and health hazards
which are emergent in nature and can not be addressed by
the poor people. In 2007, a total amount of Taka
4,21,25,000.00 in cash and kind was donated for
rehabilitation of people seriously affected by cyclone, flood
and landslide. The donations in kind included food,
medicine, water purifying tablets and blankets.
