3. The old man and old ways
The church (Christians) represent God on on
earth! Our lifestyle must measure up with the One
who has called us by the gospel!
(2 Thess. 2:11-13)
4. The old man and old ways
A look at the Ephesians
• Acts 19:17-20, 24-29 …turn with me please…
• Ephesians 4:17-24 …turn with me please….
5. The old man and old ways
1. A vain mind (futility of mind) — Is due to the absence
of God from our thoughts. (Hosea 4:6; Romans 8:6)
• Without a knowledge of God and an obedience to God
(John 3:36; 6:44-45), life is futile and frustrating.
• Ecclesiatstes 1:2 “Vanity (absurdity, frustration, futility,
nonsense, futility, meaningless) says the Preacher;
Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.”
• Solomon portrays a life with out God! A life that is lived
without obedience to God is as mentioned above!
6. The old man and old ways
(2) A hard heart—— Ephesians 4:18
• In spite of the light that shines in the order of creation
(Romans 1:18-23), the man of sins hardens his heart
and continues the downward spiral that leads to torment!
• A hard heart—A heart or mind that does not allow the
word of God to penetrate, to take up it permeant abiding
place in the heart! (Col. 3:16-17) Refusal to do HIS will.
• Matthew 19:4-9; Genesis 6:1-5…turn with me please…
7. The old man and old ways
(3) Evil Conduct—Ephesians 4:19
• With a (1) vain mind and (2) hard heart a natural
progression of (3) evil conduct will flow!
• Mark 7:21-23 From within, out of the heart of men, evil
thoughts proceed, fornications, thefts, murders,
adulteries, coveting, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness,
an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness. All these evil
things come from within and defile a man!
