    "the soft things“

ETYMOLOGY
► Most have broad, muscular feet
► Most have radula
► All have most of their organs at their
    dorsal region
► Most have large ceca

CHARACTERISTICS
► Most are bilaterally symmetrical

SYMMETRY
► They have organ systems
► Their organs have multiple functions
► Ex. Their heart is important for their
    reproductive system
► Most mollusks have shells

STRUCTURE
► They are heterotrophic
► Some eat floating food particles

NUTRITION
► The only organ only used for
    reproduction is their gonads
► All the other organs have multiple
    functions

REPRODUCTION
► Most mollusks are motile
► Terrestrial mollusks move by a muscular
    foot
► Marine mollusks move by jet propulsion
► Some mollusks are sessile and are
    attached to a rock

LOCOMOTION
► There are marine and terrestrial mollusks
► Ex. Snail - terrestrial, Oyster - marine

HABITAT
► The anus and genitals open into the
    mantle cavity
► They have two pairs of main nerve cords

OTHERS
► Their subgroups are Caudofoveata,
    Solenogastres, Polyplacophora,
    Monoplacophora, Gastropoda,
    Cephalopoda, Bivalvia, Scaphopoda,
    Rostroconchia, and Helcionelloida.
► Red = extinct

SUBGROUPS
► Mainly used for food
► Eaten by people around the world every
    day
► The shells are turned into pearl buttons,
    jewelry, and others
► If extinct, we will have less food to eat

SIGNIFICANCE
