Aristotle and metaphysical happiness
For Aristotle, the most notable of the metaphysical philosophers, happiness is the highest desire and ambition of all human beings. In his opinion, the way to reach it is through virtue. In other words, if one cultivates within oneself the highest virtues, he or she will reach happiness.
More than just a tangible state, Aristotle believed that it is more a lifestyle. The key characteristic of this way of life is to constantly exercise and extract the best of each individual.
It is also necessary to practice prudence of character and have a good “daimon,” meaning good fate or good luck in order to lead a full and truly happy life. For this reason, his thesis on happiness is known by the name “Eudaimonia” or “Eudaemonism.”
Aristotle provided the philosophical base on which the Christian church was built. Considering this, great similarities can be found between this great thinker’s ideas and the principles of Judeo-Christian religions.
Epicurus and hedonistic happiness
Epicurus was a Greek philosopher who contradicted metaphysical philosophers. In contrast to their beliefs, he did not believe that happiness came only from the spiritual world, but rather that it also had a great deal to do with more earthly dimensions.
In fact, Epicurus founded a school of thought called Epicureanism, and actually had his own school which he called “The Garden.” Many interesting ideas and conclusions come from Epicureanism.
He proposed the principle that balance and temperance were what created space for happiness. This idea is captured in one of his greatest maxims: “He who is not satisfied with a little, is satisfied with nothing.”
Epicurus thought that love had little to do with happiness, and that friendship, instead, was more important. He also insisted in the idea that one should not work for money to be able to buy goods, but rather for the love of the work.
Slavoj Zizek and happiness as a paradox
This philosopher indicates that being truly happy is a matter of opinion, and not of truth. He considered satisfaction and contentment a product of capitalist values which implicitly promise eternal satisfaction through consumption.
However, dissatisfaction reigns within humans because in reality, they do not know what they want.

According to this idea that gender is socially constructed, answer.docxronak56
According to this idea that gender is socially constructed, answer the following questions:
1. What does it mean to be a man in the U.S.? What does it mean to be a woman?
2. From what institutions do we learn these gender roles?
3. How do these clips demonstrate the ways in which gender is socially constructed in the U.S.? Do the concepts discussed in the clips resonate with you? Why or why not?
In Persepolis, the main character Marji struggles to define her identity as an Iranian woman in a changing society.
· What roles are depicted for women in Iranian society in the film? How do they change over time?
· How does Persepolis demonstrate the ways in which gender and identity are influenced in many ways, by different processes across cultures? How are gender roles in Iran similar, or different to gender in the U.S.?
· What are some of the stereotypes that exist about Muslim women and how does Abu-Lughod in “Do Muslim Women Need Saving” and Persepolis complicate these stereotypes?

Major Health Care Problems in the US
Problem statement: High and continuously rising cost of health care has been and still is one of
the biggest challenges affecting the Health Care system in United States.
Methods of Examining the Problem
Both qualitative and quantitative research methods should be used to fully understand the
issue of high cost of care in the US. Quantitative methods like surveys and experimentations will
aid in estimating the prevalence, magnitude and frequency of the problem in different regions.
On the other hand, qualitative methods like case studies and observation will help describe the
extent and complexity of the issue. The two approaches need to work in complementation to
obtain a clear understanding of this menace.
Surveys, as a quantitative research method, is one of the most effective in the social
research and present a more viable method of examining the cost of health in the country. They
involve asking of questions in the form of questionnaires and interviews. Questionnaires are
written questions to which the response can be open ended or multiple-choice format. This
would be used to gain information about cost within determinants that are of
disagree/neutral/agree nature. An example is if patients are contented with the cost of services
they get or they deem the cost of cover worthy. Interviews, the researcher discussing issues with
the respondents, are to be used to gain more details on already known aspects of the system. This
may include gathering information to inform policies, administration and use of technology to
minimize the cost of care.
Since health cost in the US is not a new challenge and there have been studies about it,
qualitative methods like .

EUGENE
In reviewing this week’s reading material, Kouzes and Posner’s (2017) argument for the importance of enabling others to act, fostering collaboration, and strengthening others reminded me of Deci and Ryan’s (1985) self-determination theory. I have routinely come back to this theory throughout my coursework as the principles within it seem to fit many different molds, specifically leadership and motivation. The topic of motivation and police officers has become an area of interest due in part to research showing the unique nature of being a police officer, to include internal and external stressors that are seldom experienced by any other profession (Accquadro Maran, Zedda, Varetto & Ieraci, 2015). Deci and Ryan’s (1985) self-determination theory simply says that in order for humans to feel motivated to perform they must have a sense of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. I find that Kouzes and Posner’s (2017) concept of enabling others to act and fostering collaborations meld perfectly with providing people with a sense of autonomy. Leaders, especially front-line supervisors within law enforcement organizations, have a dramatic impact on the autonomy of officers. I have seen first-hand how front-line leadership can restrict the decision-making process so much that they drain the officer’s motivation which leads to them not wanting to act and foster any sort of collaboration with the organization. Having the confidence as a leader to step back and allow others to make decisions is a worthy investment. While not every situation will allow for this, leaders must learn to create environments in which their people can be successful and allow them to make decisions. This level of confidence is not learned overnight, and I have struggled with this myself. However, once I observed the benefits of allowing officers to make their own decisions, obviously within the guidelines of our policies, they feel more connected and confident in their ability to solve problems. If we look at Deci and Ryan’s (1985) argument for competence, this aligns with Kouzes and Posner’s (2017) argument for strengthening others. Competence, or having the ability to complete the task at hand, comes down to proper training which strengthens others and allows them to complete their job more effectively and with confidence. Failure to strengthen others can, and will, result in stagnation due to a lack of motivation to perform. Leadership is a challenging process that takes time to learn and understand. This process can certainly be daunting, however just as Proverbs 3:5 (English Standard Version, 2020) reads, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean .

Aristotle and metaphysical happiness For Aristotle, the most not.docx
1. Aristotle and metaphysical happiness
For Aristotle, the most notable of the metaphysical
philosophers, happiness is the highest desire and ambition of all
human beings. In his opinion, the way to reach it is
through virtue. In other words, if one cultivates within oneself
the highest virtues, he or she will reach happiness.
More than just a tangible state, Aristotle believed that it is more
a lifestyle. The key characteristic of this way of life is to
constantly exercise and extract the best of each individual.
It is also necessary to practice prudence of character and have a
good “daimon,” meaning good fate or good luck in order to lead
a full and truly happy life. For this reason, his thesis on
happiness is known by the name “Eudaimonia” or
“Eudaemonism.”
Aristotle provided the philosophical base on which the Christian
church was built. Considering this, great similarities can be
found between this great thinker’s ideas and the principles of
Judeo-Christian religions.
Epicurus and hedonistic happiness
Epicurus was a Greek philosopher who
contradicted metaphysical philosophers. In contrast to their
beliefs, he did not believe that happiness came only from the
spiritual world, but rather that it also had a great deal to do with
more earthly dimensions.
In fact, Epicurus founded a school of thought called
Epicureanism, and actually had his own school which he called
“The Garden.” Many interesting ideas and conclusions come
from Epicureanism.
He proposed the principle that balance and temperance were
what created space for happiness. This idea is captured in one
of his greatest maxims: “He who is not satisfied with a little, is
satisfied with nothing.”
Epicurus thought that love had little to do with happiness, and
that friendship, instead, was more important. He also insisted in
2. the idea that one should not work for money to be able to buy
goods, but rather for the love of the work.
Slavoj Zizek and happiness as a paradox
This philosopher indicates that being truly happy is a matter of
opinion, and not of truth. He considered satisfaction and
contentment a product of capitalist values which implicitly
promise eternal satisfaction through consumption.
However, dissatisfaction reigns within humans because in
reality, they do not know what they want.
OverviewChronic Condition Triads: Prevalence and Medicare
SpendingMethodsData Source and Study Population: The data
used in the chronic condition reports are based upon CMS
administrative enrollment and claims data for Medicare
beneficiaries enrolled in the fee-for-service program. These data
are available from the CMS Chronic Condition Data Warehouse
(CCW), www.ccwdata.org. For all the chronic condition reports
the Medicare beneficiary population is limited to fee-for-service
beneficiaries. We excluded Medicare beneficiaries with any
Medicare Advantage enrollment during the year since claims
data are not available for these beneficiaries. Also, we excluded
beneficiaries who were enrolled at any time in the year in Part
A only or Part B only, since their utilization and spending
cannot be compared directly to beneficiaries enrolled in both
Part A and Part B. Beneficiaries who died during the year are
included up to their date of death if they meet the other
inclusion criteria. For chronic condition triads, the population is
further restricted to beneficiaries who have at least three of the
17 conditions.Data Years: 2008–2012Chronic Condition Co-
morbidity: The 17 chronic conditions were identified through
Medicare administrative claims. A Medicare beneficiary is
considered to have a chronic condition if the CMS
administrative data have a claim indicating that the beneficiary
received a service or treatment for the specific condition.
Detailed information on the identification of chronic conditions
3. in the CCW is available at http://www.ccwdata.org/chronic-
conditions/index.htm. Chronic condition triads represent the
combinations of three chronic conditions among Medicare
beneficiaries who have at least three of the conditions. There
are 680 triads.Socio-demographic Variables: A beneficiary’s
sex is available from the CMS enrollment database and is
classified as Male/Female. Beneficiaries enrolled in both
Medicare and Medicaid are known as “dual eligibles.” Medicare
beneficiaries were classified as dual eligibles if in any month in
the given calendar year they were receiving full or partial
Medicaid benefits.
Measures: Prevalence estimates are calculated by taking the
beneficiaries with a particular chronic condition triad divided
by the total number of beneficiaries in our fee-for-service
population, expressed as a percentage. Medicare spending for
beneficiaries with the chronic condition triad includes total
Medicare payments for all Medicare covered services in Parts A
and B and is presented per beneficiary (i.e., per capita). Data
Suppression: A blank cell indicates that the data have been
suppressed because there are fewer than 11 Medicare
beneficiaries in the cell. Methodology Report: A complete
description of the methodology for all the chronic condition
reports can be downloaded from the link available on the
chronic condition website main page.
