1. Question preparation
What kinds of funding do you receive from local professional clubs, what kind of funding if any do
you get from sport England?
(Paul) (Marwan)
These will be sat down in a typical interview style (shot reverse shot)
I will also try to incorporate a passive participant role into my interviewing I will be running some
basic ball skills and having a chat with (Rosie and Paul C)
Also talking about the new rugby league sport England cuts and whether the new amateur club led
schemes will work and hopefully increase participants.
I will also be talking about the way that low level funding cuts have possibly affected new clubs in
the way of buying equipment
“The RFL’s bold decision to create a competition framework for the community game based on the
summer will deliver both better integration of competition structures and a greater flexibility for
those wishing to participate at all levels of the game. Our discussions with the RFL have given us
confidence that the very significant investment we are still making in rugby league will deliver value
for money.”
In addition to the creation of a summer based competition framework, the RFL plans to build on the
successful work it has begun in expanding touch rugby. Steps are also being taken to mitigate the
impact of youth recruitment by professional clubs through a new duel registration between both
community and professional clubs.

The EGP’s maximum funding award for 2009 – 2013 was £12,851,500. As a result of Sport England’s
decision and the reductions to Sport England’s Exchequer funding in the Comprehensive Spending
Review, the total Sport England investment for the period will be £12,538,477.
£550 a month to be diverted to amateur instead of the rfl, how will the clubs be spending this
money?

The key to choosing the right storytelling techniques for your documentary is to know who your
primary audience will be and where/how it will be viewed. If your audience is a group of third
graders, you may choose a very different technique than you would for a group of college fraternity
2. brothers or for a group of senior citizens. Another way to choose your storytelling technique is to
think about your subject matter. If your documentary is about war, you might choose a very
different storytelling style than if your documentary is about adopting puppies. The idea is that you
want to create the proper setting and tone to create an experience for your audience. You want to
build the story in such a way to keep the audience engaged and following the story, you don't want
them to get bored nor do you want to overstimulate.
Narration – This is a traditional style of storytelling using a narrator who is off-camera and never
seen. This generic “voice” is an objective storyteller. This style is often used in news type
documentaries like PBS's Frontline.
Host – This is a style of storytelling where you learn the story through a guide or a host. You see this
person on camera and they take you through the story in their own words. The host could be you, it
could be a celebrity or a professional host or just a person who has some connection to the story.
This is a great technique for a travel documentary. I used this technique in my documentary Briars in
the Cotton Patch with former UN Ambassador Andrew Young as the host.
No Narration – These are my favorite type of documentaries where there is no narration. The story is
pieced together using only clips of interviews, raw footage, on-screen text and graphics. The Cove is
a compelling example of this style.
Recreations/Drama – This storytelling technique is often used in historical documentaries where
important events have already taken place and there is no existing footage. Or there are pieces of
the story missing that need to be dramatized. A great example of a documentary using this
technique is Man on Wire.
Follow One Character – This is a style of storytelling where you choose one person to follow for your
story. The filmmakers that made the documentary An Inconvenient Truth took this approach by
following Al Gore to tell a big and complicated story.
All of these are important when it comes to
