One day when you are in Manhattan, make your way to the block of West 25 th Street between 10 th and 11 th Avenues in Chelsea. There you will find dozens of art galleries side by side with free admission. Spend at least one hour visiting a total of at least five of these galleries (this is easily done given how close they are to each other; if you can see more, so much the better). Try to include a mix of large and small galleries. You can go during our regular course meeting time or any other time Tuesday-Saturday between 12 noon and 6 pm, the open hours for most Chelsea galleries. Keep a running list of the names of the galleries, artists and exhibition titles that you see. Spend some time with your favorite works and make a few notes. Don’t take any photos unless you are sure it is permitted (and don’t use a flash). Then write a WikiSpace blog entry including the following: The names of all the galleries, artists, and shows you saw on West 25th St. between 10th and 11th Aves. A one-to-two paragraph blog entry about ONE artwork in one of these shows that “speaks” to you. Include a description, analysis, and personal interpretation or response. One photo can be included (optional). This should be longer and more in-depth than the Twitter-length entries you wrote for Assignment #1. This is a WikiSpace blog, not a Discussion Board, so don’t respond directly to each other; the dialogue is between you and the art, and you are sharing it with the class in order that you might see through each other’s eyes. Don’t forget to insert a line between your entry and the previous student’s entry, and put your name at the top of your entry. .
