DEFINITION
Infrared thermography is a contact-free and non-destructive
technique offering measurement and imaging of surface
temperatures.

STEFAN BOLTZMANN LAW
All objects radiate infrared energy in proportion to their
temperature and emisivity. The Stefan-Boltzmann equation
quantifies that relationship:
Q = σ × × T4
Where:
Q = heat energy (W)
σ = 5, 669.10−8(W/m2)
emissivity value 0 < < 1
Absolute Temperature in K

WEIN’S DISPLACEMENT LAW
A body radiates a wide
spectrum of frequencies at
any given temperature.
µm =
b
Tk
Where:
µm = wavelenght of
maximun radiation (W)
b = Wien’s displacement
constant = 2,897
TK = temperature of the
surface (K)

HVAC APPLICATIONS
Predictive Maitenance (PdM). Thermography allows
corrective action to be taken before costly system failures
occur.
Building and Energy Audits. Thermography helps to
reveal missing insulation, HVAC air flow and equipment
issues, radiant heating malfunctions, compromised
roofing.
...and much more.
