2. Introduction
• Joseph Bisignano received his DVM from the Western University of Health
Sciences, where he was the valedictorian of the class of 2010. A world
traveler, Joseph Bisignano, DVM, has visited Switzerland.
The small landlocked central European nation of Switzerland, with slightly
over eight million inhabitants, was selected in 2017 as the world’s best
country. In its annual rankings, U.S. News and World Report surveyed over
30,000 individuals worldwide for their selection of the world’s best country
based on a questionnaire.
Part of a group of 20 new nations to enter the rankings, this was
Switzerland’s first evaluation, and it unseated Germany for the top position.
Respondents lowered their opinion of Germany due to the migrant crisis
and terrorist attacks that afflicted it during 2016.
Each country was rated on a scale of one to ten on a variety of criteria, and
though Switzerland didn’t receive a top ranking in any of the areas, it scored
as high as number three in “citizenship” rights and being “open for
business.”
