Editor's Notes
To engage students, especially year 9 and 10 boys we have created a programme which is 1/3 EOTC
3 camps, waikeremoana,
East Cape
Northland
We didn’t just want the learners to learn about these places though, we wanted them to learn about what excited them about these places. So we had two parts to our inquiries. Experimenting was the first part, where we used an online forum to deliver tasks to the students.
Then we hit the road on our trip, experiencing all the things they had explored about in the first stage of their inquiry.
When we got back, students could choose one part of that trip to really engage with, focus in on, ask big questions, and research and explore in depth.
Then they showed what they had found to others.
Zone is all the things we think they need to know. We try to keep it relevant to what is big in their lives.
