It is a primary method of Social Work
It is concerned with development of individual
(Human Relationship, better facilities etc.)
Human development and adjustment depend n the way
he/she uses the resources.
Due to certain factors, internal or External, he/she fails to
avail existing facilities. Here Social Case work helps.
Social case work is a complex, dynamic, and
evolving phenomenon. It is complex by virtue
of the varied knowledge which feed it, the
ethical commitments which infuse it, the
special auspices and conditions of its practice,
the objectives and ends which guide it, the
skills which empower it.
3. To establish a rapport with the person who needs guidance
and support
To assess the problems that hinders the growth of the
person and to enable the individual to resolve the immediate
problem
To strengthen the individual’s ego in terms of self-esteem,
self-acceptance, and self-direction and build up his/her
capacity
To eliminate maladaptive behaviour and prevent family or
social breakdown
To develop the resources for self-enhancement and
empowerment
To restore the individual’s social functioning through
appropriate adjustment mechanisms
To plan the prevention of the occurrence of similar problems
through environment modification

Purposes of Social Case Work
4. To make good rapport with clients and case worker should
work for alleviating the client’s difficulty. Once adequate rapport
is established the clients will be more receptive to in-depth
exploration of their concerns.

client.
To strengthen the individual’s self esteem

To develop internal resources.
To determine the point of termination.

6. Four P’s in social case work:
1.Person: The person is a man, woman or child or anyone who finds
himself/herself, or is found to be, in need of help
2.Problem: America Heritage dictionary “question or situation that
presents uncertainty, perplexity or difficulty”.
3.Place: is a social service agency or a social service department of
another kind of human welfare agency.
4.Process: is a progressive transaction between the case worker and
the client.
