Jennifer Repa
Senior Staff Scientist
Jennifer Repa has 6 years of experience in field sampling, sample analysis, and project
development. While obtaining a masters in environmental science, Ms. Repa has gained
relevant technical skills in monitoring and testing water quality. She collected stormwater
samples from two BMP sites over the course of 14 months in order to determine how efficient
retention ponds and created wetlands are at nutrient removal. She filtered and analyzed the
stormwater samples using a Block Digester and a Seal Auto Analyzer. She also used GIS to survey
surface elevations in wetland areas for hydrologic calculations.
During her 6 weeks of research in Alaska Ms. Repa gained valuable field and lab experience. Her
research team hiked and flew out to remote research lakes on the north slope to collect
sediment cores, invertebrate, and water samples. The team then filtered, sliced, separated,
identified, and generally processed the samples in the labs at Toolik Lake.
From 2011 -2013 Ms. Repa helped educate local high school students on the degraded state of
the Chesapeake Bay through a grant received from the NSF GK-12 program. She conducted field
and laboratory experiments with the students in nutrient testing, estimation of sediment load,
and biomonitoring of local BMP’s. The goal of these projects was to help students make the
connection between what is dumped into the water locally via stormwater runoff and the
degraded state of the Chesapeake Bay. Being a graduate lab assistant for an ecology lab, and GIS
class at CNU has also provided Ms. Repa with experience working with undergraduate students,
leading field experiments, and problem solving with GIS.
Over the past two years with Terraphase, Ms. Repa has written, or assisted with writing, a
Hydrologic Site Assessment, multiple Industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, Phase I
Environmental Site Assessments (ESA’s), Pipeline Risk Assessments, Annual Monitoring Reports,
and Data Validation Reports. Her field work experience includes industrial stormwater facility
inspections, construction site stormwater inspections, stormwater sampling, groundwater
monitoring and sampling, package groundwater treatment plant sampling, UST inspections,
landfill inspections, sampling leachate and metal shredder residue for landfill treatability
studies, soil sampling and environmental oversight for construction projects.
