• Marketing shows people the ways a product will make their life better

• North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
• World Trade Organization (WTO)
• Change in the market place has let all world markets be able to trade and market
almost every where in the world
PRODUCTION ERA
• Manufacturers stressed production of high quality goods
• Production Orientation dominated business philosophy for many many years
• Reached peaked during early part of 20th century
SALES ERA
• Manufactures increase focus on effective sales
• Match the output the consumer wants
• Sales orientation: persuade consumers to buy nonessential goods
MARKETING ERA
• Manager pay close attention to the marketing of their goods or service
• After the Great Depression
• Satisfying consumer needs
RELATIONSHIP ERA
• Maintaining relationships with the consumer
• Relationship Marketing: developing long term relationships with the consumer
• NASCAR
SOCIAL ERA
• SOCIAL MEDIA
• Use of internet and social media outlets to connect to the consumer
EVENT MARKETING
• Marketing of sporting, cultural, and charitable activities to a certain target market
• Olympics, Super Bowl, World Cup
PERSON MARKETING
• Person marketing: using a celebrity to market your product
PLACE MARKETING
• Attract a consumer to a certain place
• City, states, landmarks
